A/N: This chapter is going to be two two seperate POVs. KELLY and then SADIE. If it gets too confusing let me know. Thanks :)

KELLY

Kelly walked into Firehouse 51, seeing no one on the apparatus floor he made his way inside. Instead of the smell of breakfast and the sound of bad tv, there was nothing.

"Hello?...Anyone here?"

He put his bag down and made his way to Chief Bodens office, it was empty. Checking the bunk room, it was empty as well.

"Ok everyone, very funny. Stop hiding. You can come out now!"

"They're not here Kelly."

Standing in the door of his quarters was someone he hadn't seen in years.

"Dad."

"Hello Son"

SADIE

"Thank god. Sadie!"

Stella came into the room grabbing the younger woman in a tight hug.

"You scared the shit out of us."

"I'm sorry Stell, I just needed some air."

"I am so sorry if she caused any trouble"

She turned apologizing to Dr Charles.

"Oh no, not at all. She and I had a nice chat, I think she's feeling a bit better now."

He flashed his comforting smile. Reaching into his pocket he produced a business card.

"Here Sadie, if you need anything, or anyone to talk to give me a call anytime ok? I also can make appointments, which I do recommend. You know? To help you sort through things."

"Thanks Dr Charles, I think I might do that."

She smiled as he turned to leave the room.

"Why did you run?"

"Stella...the last time I was in a hospital room...my mom died. I got overwhelmed with this whole situation...I panicked."

"I'm just glad you're ok."

They both looked over to Kelly

"So what now?"

Sadie asked

"We wait."

KELLY

"What are you doing here Dad?"

"We need to talk son, we left some things...unfinished."

"Yeah, I'd say you did. Were you ever going to tell me about Sadie?"

"Look, her mother and I were never on good terms after she was born."

"Just another excuse, there was no reason to keep her from me!"

Benny sighed

"You're right Kelly, I did many things in my life I regret. But some things just have a way of working out don't they?"

"They do but-"

"I was trying to get my life together. I was looking to reconnect with Sadie, try to make things right. But I didn't do it soon enough."

1 WEEK LATER

SADIE

"And that's why the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell."

Sadie read aloud from her school chemistry book, sitting in the chair beside Kelly's hospital bed.

A pretty, dark skinned nurse was in the room checking the equipment that her brother was hooked to.

"Are you reading to him from your textbook?"

She chuckled

"Yeah, maybe he'll be a bit smarter when he wakes up."

"Your brother is a very smart guy you know?"

The nurse smiled lovingly at her

"I know, I just like giving him a hard time. EVEN THOUGH HE'S IGNORING ME!"

Sadie finished in a loud voice, directing that comment to her unconscious brother. She watched him for a second...no movement.

"You're Sadie right?"

"Yeah"

"Your brother here told me alllll about you."

"Uh if you don't mind me asking...how?"

He had been unconscious since he came in.

"I'm April, your brother and I have been friends since we were kids."

"Ohhh. Ok. That makes more sense."

Sadie laughed

KELLY

"So how are things going with Sadie?"

"I mean, it's as good as it can be. She's a teenager, she's also a Severide. So she's stubborn as hell"

Kelly chuckled

"Just take care of her, Kelly."

"I'm trying but there's not much I can do when I'm here. Talking to you."

"You can't stay much longer."

2 WEEKS LATER

SADIE

Sadie hasn't been home since Kelly had his accident. It was a constant rotation of school, hospital, firehouse. And the only reason she would go to the firehouse is if she needed to do laundry or get a proper night's rest in a bed, instead of the chair beside Kelly's hospital bed. And that was usually at the insistence of Chief Boden who stopped by daily to check on Kelly.

Stella had almost the same schedule, but she would go home to sleep. She couldn't get the proper rest at the hospital that she needed to work.

Sadie sat in the chair, staring at her brother, watching his chest rise and fall.

A gentle knock at the door brought her out of her trance.

"Oh, hi Dr Charles."

"Hey, how's he doing?"

"No improvement...but nothing has gotten worse either so there's that."

"There's that optimism we were talking about!"

He chuckled

Sadie had been having regular meetings with Dr. Charles, seeing as his office was only one floor up from Kelly's room.

" I was heading out for the evening and I just want to pop in and check on you "

"I'm ok, thank you."

"You've eaten?"

"Yes, I went to the cafeteria earlier and had a veggie wrap with hummus."

" Good girl, see you tomorrow?"

"Yes sir"

KELLY

"I miss you Dad"

"I miss you too son."

Benny placed a hand on Kelly's shoulder.

"But I think it's time for you to go now"

"What?"

"You need to wake up Kelly...YOU NEED TO WAKE UP!"

SADIE

"YOU NEED TO WAKE UP!"

Sadie almost screamed, sobbing into Kelly's chest.

"Please Kelly, wake up!...don't leave me here alone!"

She couldn't take it anymore. Day after day, walking into this room, seeing her brother's condition unchanged. She had tried to be hopeful for a recovery, but today after arriving at the hospital something broke inside her. The idea of him never waking up hit her like a wrecking ball to the gut.

She had crawled onto his bed, hugging up next to him, crying into the blankets that covered him.

Chief Boden, Cruze and Cap arrived to commotion, walking into the room, seeing the young girl clinging to her brother.

Cruze managed to pull her away, cradling her in his arms.

"It's ok, Sades, it's ok. Shhhhh"

He gently rocked her back and forth on the floor as she continued to cry.

Boden and Cap stood beside the bed, their sad eyes watching the young girl come apart in front of them.

Boden felt a hand on his arm, looking down his eyes and met those of his Squad Lieutenant.
