Just like how all good relationships start, this one started with a party.
Katies POV
Alright so I'm not one for partying but my best friend Miranda really wanted to go to this end of the year party that some of the seniors are throwing. Everyone's invited, even me. But I just wanted to stay home and read a book, maybe watch some netflix and eat some popcorn but Miranda really didn't want to go alone. So I said I'd go. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I had said no, and how different my life would be.
The doorbell rang. I ran down the stairs to get it, and just as I expected there at the door was my best friend Miranda.
"Hey! Ready for the party?!" She greeted.
"Hey 'Anda! Small problem, I don't know what to wear." She just chuckled.
"I kinda figured this would happen. Why do you think I showed up an hour and a half early?"
"What would I do without you 'Anda"
She chuckled, "Good thing you'll never have to find out."
We headed up to my bedroom to get ready. Since Miranda already had her outfit picked out, she came out first, in a cocktail length black dress with spaghetti straps, a bit of ruching in the middle and a slight slit. She had done a gorgeous black smokey eye and red lip to pair. She was also sporting 3in black heels that made her legs look killer.
"Damn! Are you sure you're not over dressed?" I asked.
"Trust me, I've seen everyones insta posts and this is underdressed compared to some of the girls. Now come on, I brought some options for you too." She pulled out three dresses. One was a very simple floor length black dress, with nothing special that I gravitated towards. I went to pick it up to try it on when Miranda snatched it out of my hands. I looked at her confused.
"I brought this one as an example on what not to wear! Come on Katie, you need to live a little!"
"Come on Miranda we're only Sophomores!"
"Not any more we're not! We just took our finals we're officially Juniors now Kate! And being a Junior comes with a certain responsibility, such as having your first kiss!" So that was her plan.
"Did you really invite me to this party so I could kiss a guy!"
"Yes! It's high time you've had your first kiss! I had mine when I was 11!" Miranda had always been the more adventurous one. While I was inside tending to my plants and working on my college applications, Miranda was living. She crouched down so she was eye level with me since I sat on the edge of my bed. She took my hands and said, "Look Katie cat, I have known you since we were 5 years old, I know how much you don't like parties because of what happened to your mom." My mom was killed by a drunk driver after he decided to drive home after a party where he had 8 beers. She was pregnant with what would have been my little sister. "But your mom would have wanted you to have fun, to have a life and not waste it sitting in your room because of her. But hey if you want to stay in tonight I'll stay with you." I got up to hug Miranda.
"Thanks 'Anda."
"Anytime Katie cat. Now come on I have to change out of these." She gestured to her clothes. As she went to leave to change I grabbed her hand to stop her.
"I never said that I wasn't going." Miranda's eyes lit up.
She squealed and hugged me. "Thank you Thank you Thank you! Now come on, I have two more options for you to try!" She pulled the other dresses out of the bag she had brought. One was a short strapless black cocktail dress with a black lace corset top with a slit that went all the way to my underwear line. The other was another black cocktail dress but it was a two piece that left my entire stomach exposed, and it was long sleeved. I could clearly tell that Miranda wanted me to go with the first one, I was hesitant but tonight is all about going out of my comfort zone so what the Hell might as well go big. After I put it on I was in shock, it was cinched at my waist and accented every curve I had. After I came out of the bathroom I thought that Miranda was going to swoon. She was so excited, she quickly did my makeup and hair. She put my hair in a ponytail so high I thought I was going to lose brain cells. Then she set onto my makeup. She gave me a fierce cat wing and long false lashes to match and a red lip just like hers. Now my normal style was baggy sweatshirts and leggings, I had never even done makeup, sure when I was younger I would slap on some lip gloss and mascara but nothing like this.
"Wow." Was all I could say when I looked into the mirror, Miranda also lent me a pair of black wedges similar to hers. I had never seen myself like this before. I looked so different. I turned to Miranda, "Are you sure about this 'Anda?"
She gave me a reassuring smile, "Trust me, if you start to feel uncomfortable we can leave, and I promise you you don't have to drink or anything. Just try to have fun okay?"
"Okay" I squeezed her hand and we were off.
Travis's POV
My brother Connor had forced me to come to a party that a bunch of his senior friends were throwing. I mean it wasn't like I had any other plans. So I went, I was in the corner of the room with a drink in hand talking to some junior, hoping to spice up my night when they walked in. The talking died down when two girls walked through the door, they were absolutely gorgeous. It took me a second to figure out who they were, it only took me a second to figure out that the taller girl was Miranda but it took me a minute to figure out the girl next to her was Katie. I had had a crush on Katie since the 2nd grade but she hated me. I had never seen her in anything but leggings and a sweatshirt, and now seeing her in that dress. I had to do a double take, I watched in jealousy as men swarmed her all night, to try and drown my sorrows I decided to have a drink to try and take my mind off of her. There were plenty of other girls at this party, hot girls who were practically begging me to show them a good time, yet all I could think of was her. I watched her all night over the rim of my glass, watching as she talked to almost every guy in attendance, I just clenched my glass more. Me, Katie, Connor, and Miranda used to be best friends when we were young, but then we hit middle school and Katie's mom died. We stopped hanging out and she basically ghosted me and Connor. But I could never get over her, and instead of handling her ghosting maturely I decided to torment her. Now it's too late, she already hates me.
Katies POV
I was having a horrible time at the party, almost every guy in attendance was flirting with me. To make matters worse he was here, Travis Stoll. We were best friends when we were kids but then my mom died, and my dad told me to stop hanging out with him. It was torture, I had the biggest crush on him when we were young. But then he started acting like a total asshole, and even then my heart fluttered every time I saw him. Including tonight, every once in a while my eyes would drift over to him where he was standing in the opposite corner talking to some girl. This continued for the rest of the night, as the party was winding down I finally found Miranda in the back room where the remainder of the kids were.
"Hey! Enjoying the party?" She asked. I could tell how much fun she was having and I couldn't ruin that.
"Yeah! You?"
"So much! We're about to play 7 minutes in heaven, come join us!" Oh no
Apparently Miranda saw the look of terror that spread onto my face. "Please! You said you would at least try and have your first kiss." She whispered that last part. "Besides I don't wanna do this alone, and Connor is doing it too!" Miranda had had the biggest crush on Connor since we were kids and it was quite clear to everyone but Miranda that he liked her too. She looked at me with her big brown eyes.
I couldn't help but say, "Fine."
Everyone who was playing had gathered in the back room, I knew a lot of them, there was Jason who had a crush on Piper, Leo and his girlfriend Calypso, Percy and his long time girlfriend Annabeth, Clarrisee and her boyfriend Chris, Selena (Who's house it was) and her boyfriend Charlie, there were also some single stragglers that I didn't know, and then the lasts ones in were Travis and Connor Stoll.
Travis's POV
The party was finally winding down, and I was a bit tipsy and more than ready to uber my ass out of here and sleep the next day away dreaming of Katie when I finally found Connor.
"Hey dude! You ready to go?"
"About that" Oh no "See a couple of us were going to play 7 minutes in heaven." Oh gods no. "And before you say no, Miranda and Katie are both going to play." Connor had had a crush on Miranda almost as long as I've had a crush on Katie, but in this case it was requited. He gave me his big puppy eyes.
"The things I do for my brother." The grin on his face I swear could light up a room. We were the lasts one in, I saw Katie sitting next to Miranda on the opposite end of the circle.
"Alright welcome everyone, I'm sure we all know the rules but for those of you who don't the rules are simple. We spin a bottle and whoever it lands on you have to go into the closet together for 7 minutes. Now whatever happens in this room stays in this room. Alright, and if you need help don't be afraid to yell, we don't want anyone doing anything they aren't comfortable doing. Now who should start?" Selena explained the rules. Sherman Yang, another senior, said we should roll dice. The problem was none of us had any dice. Then Grover Underwood, another senior, said we should draw straws. So that's what we did, whoever drew the shortest straw went first. Katie drew the short straw. Great, I have to see my crush of 9 years go make out, or worse, with someone else. Katie was noticeably flustered but she spinned the bottle and I watched as it passed me not once but twice and just when I thought it was about to past me, it landed on me. Oh shit.
