What Seemed Like The End...
Deep breaths echoed in the silent air, whistling and whirling encompassing the breathing coming from a worn out girl. Dusks danced and swayed in the air, almost with gleeful abandon. Footsteps of another figure approached the girl. As the clomping sound came close, the girl couldn't muster the energy to even look up at the looming figure coming closer. The pain she felt in that moment was excruciating, limiting her movement. She could do nothing but catch her breath.
The irony of the idea gave her some sort of semblance of comedy. A nothing that can only do nothing, she thought to herself. But there was more to it. It wasn't just the pain that was stopping her from moving, from fighting back, from doing something. Knowing it was all for naught, as no matter how hard she would try, she would never be able to stop the impending end. She wasn't strong enough to save her friends, let alone herself. Her will never did seem to compare to the others'.
"How unfortunate," A voice stopped her thoughts in their tracks. The footsteps ceased as the girl looked up to the figure looming over her - the man with a dark complexion and silver-white hair, wearing a dark coat. And his haunting amber eyes staring down at her, fiercely. "Such potential in you, but you lacked obedience. Now you will return to the darkness from which you came."
A bright red light pierced the girl's eyes, as she looked to see a blade of energy coming from the man's hand. The girl then looked back into the man's eyes, as they scowled at her. The girl looked back at the Dusks, thinking to herself that it was unfortunate that she would come to an untimely end. But worse was knowing that her friends suffered a much worse fate. She wished that it had been her instead. She didn't deserve the peace of unending sleep. She silently prayed, sending an unspoken thought that they could forgive her failure.
The man raised his hand, the blade humming as it rose into the air. The girl looked up to see his arm raised, prepared to strike. He stopped for a moment, noticing the girl's expression had turned from apathy to something different. He saw her looking beyond him, then turned around to look up to the giant skyscraper, with huge TV screens. He was confused at this gesture, the face she gave to the building before looking back to her. He then saw her lip tremble as she looked deeply into his eyes.
"You once asked me," The girl uttered, weakly. "If I knew my name."
The man sneered as the girl gave him a defiant look.
"Kai."
With that word, the man swung the red blade and struck the girl down. Her body began to fade into nothing as the Dusks stopped their dance. There was silence as the man stared down at the ground where she once lay, exhaling sharply through his nose and turning away.
"Truly… unfortunate." The man said before walking away, as almost all the Dusks followed. All but two.
The experiments have ended in failure.
If I had a heart, one might say it was broken to see such potential go to waste. Such willpower in all of them. They would've been useful for our true purpose. But it seems that it was all for naught.
But it matters not. Soon, we will have all the vessels we need. No need for defiance. Their will did not suit the cause. Now, I will let this experiment be, as they shall also be,
Forgotten.
...To A Forgotten Story...
