Kamado Tanjirou lives in a society where Omegas are protected from harm. Omegas are sacred to the Alphas of the society, who easily succumb to an Omega's will as dictated by their natural instincts.
"You must not hide your scent from others, Tanjirou. It can mean your protection when you are in trouble. So never hide your scent when you are in the presence of other Alphas which will only let their baser instincts to protect you all the more,"
She remembers the words her mother spoke to her and Tanjirou is glad that she has not hidden her scent that day or the man before her, who is obviously an Alpha would try to harm her when Tanjirou tries to protect her little sister, who was turned into a demon recently.
"Please, don't kill my little sister! She hasn't eaten any humans yet! And I can stop her from doing so! " Tanjirou pleads as she stands in front of Nezuko, who continues to growl from behind her.
"I swear I will find a cure for her! Just please don't kill her!" She says to the strange man with the mismatched haori.
"Stand down Omega," The man, however, responds severely as he glares at her. "Let me destroy that demon or else suffer the consequences."
"Listen to me! My little sister hasn't eaten anyone yet and I can prevent that from happening. I swear!"
"Your little sister might not have eaten human flesh yet but it is a matter of time that she will and I must end that possibility before it happens."
"No!" comes her immediate protest when the man advances on her with his sword drawn up.
"I said stand down Omega," the man says again.
"And I said no! I won't let you kill my sister!" Tanjirou shouts fiercely as she steps forward defiantly.
The man lets out a curse while he retreats back a step from her. Obviously, his instinct dictates not to harm her and protect her from the demon at the same time. It is a contradiction that Tanjirou takes advantage of as she begins to use her Omega voice this time to plead her case.
"Please! Please don't kill my little sister! She is all I have left!" She says tearfully at the man, who shudders as if in pain when she uses her Omega voice on him.
"Don't do that!" The man snaps coldly. "Don't use that voice on me!"
"No, you listen to me! You don't have to kill my sister at all! I can promise you that I won't let her harm anyone else! And didn't you see her protecting me earlier when you tried to attack us?! She only wants to protect me from you!" Tanjirou tries to reason.
"She is only protecting you because you are an Omega!" the man retorts back.
"My sister is a Beta! Her instinct is different from that of an Alpha! She doesn't protect me because she is an Alpha! She is protecting me because I'm her sister!" She explains to the man, whose eyes flicker with uncertainty upon hearing her words.
Tanjirou pounces on that and tries her best to convince the man through tears and pleas once more.
"Please! Can you please just let my sister go?!" She says to the man as she meets his blue-eyed stare.
The man continues to glower at her fiercely.
Tanjirou tries again.
"Please, please have mercy and let my sister go!" she uses her Omega voice once more and the man physically flinches when he hears it.
The man gazes at her for a long moment right before he lets out a sigh as his resolve slowly weakens.
"I am sure I will regret this," the man mutters to himself.
Tanjirou brightens up when she hears his words and responds, "No, you won't! I will make sure that you don't regret letting my sister go. I promise you that."
There is a short pause as the man scrutinize her from head to toe.
"Omega, you have pleaded your case and I will heed your words. Just promise me that you will control your sister and make sure she doesn't harm anyone else," the man states seriously as he sheathed his sword back into its scabbard.
"I will! I promise!" Tanjirou replies in obvious relief.
Behind her, Tanjirou can hear that Nezuko has stopped growling the moment the man sheaths his sword, which is a complete relief for her.
There is a moment of uncertain silence as Tanjirou looks back at the dark-haired man, who continues to regard her with a blank expression.
"Omega, what is your name?" the man asks her all of a sudden as he regards her with his cool dark blue eyes.
"My name is Kamado Tanjirou and this is my sister Nezuko," the sixteen year old teen introduces. "And you are?"
"My name is Tomioka Giyuu," the man replies before he inquires. "Tanjirou-san, what do you plan to do once you leave this mountain?"
"I plan to hunt down the demon who killed the rest of my family and find a cure for my sister," is her determined reply.
"I see…" the man mutters. "Perhaps it's best that you train to become a Demon Slayer."
"A Demon Slayer?" comes Tanjirou's unsure query.
"Yes, that's what I am. I slay demons like the one that slaughtered your family. If you want to become a Demon Slayer, I will direct you to someone who taught me the water breathing technique."
After a moment of contemplation, Tanjirou finally decides to follow the man's advice.
"I want to become a Demon Slayer," Tanjirou says, sounding hopeful as she meets the man's cold gaze.
"Good. You and your sister can travel with me then," the man replies.
"Alright," is Tanjirou's response.
"Now, come." the man states as he starts to lead the way.
"Not yet!" She says quickly to the man before he can step further. "I need to bury my family first before we leave the mountain."
The man glances back at her momentarily before he says in a cool tone, "Okay.."
"Thank you," Tanjirou says gratefully to the man, who simply shrugs his broad shoulders.
Afterward, Tanjirou leads the way back to her home where his family's blood hasn't dried up yet.
At that moment, Tanjirou promises to get her revenge against the demon who killed her family. She also promises to herself to protect her little sister, who is the last member of her family.
And as a sixteen year old Omega, she is certain that she can do both.
