Just another Amphibia AU rewrite no one asked for!

This is my first fic, and also English is not my first language. So I apologize for the quality of writing in advance.

But anyway, hope you enjoy this fic and the many dangers that are about to happen in it.

I don't own Amphibia. Only my OC characters are owned by me. Disney owns the rest.

Amphibia / City of Proteus / Afterman of the Amphibia's civil war

A large Olm-like creature stares at the Calamity box, which is being held by a blue-skinned, middle-aged female salamander with long red hair, and purple eyes, dressed in milky white robes with a hood and a large badge, with an image of a Lily pad with a spiral pattern in the background, pinned on her chest.

"It has to be done" spoke the Olm.

The female salamander sighed. "It all started with curiosity with a desire for science - and for adventure. A way of exploring an endlessly big frontier, discovering new beauties and wonders, and exchanging goods and ideas. All of that brought the Preosts and scientists to work together. Thus the ancient artifact that allowed our ancestors to cross the borders of reality was created. And Amphibia's fate was changed forever. Our land prospered and enjoyed peace. Then… "

Her throat dried, and her hands started to shake.

"IT came" Her voice was full of disgust.

"It and its cronies corrupted everything we stood for bit by bit.

At the center was our king, who should have protected the land, but he chose a dark path.

If only we paid attention to the signs and didn't ignore in him what I hoped not to see: ambition, greed, and obsession.

At this point, something wet streamed down her cheek.

"I was so young, so hopeful. So stupid. We could have prevented it all, I could have prevented…"

She felt a hand touching her right shoulder. She looked to her right and saw a muscular brown/green-coloured male toad clad in amour, wielding a large hammer.

"Stop beating yourself up. He made his choice."

"He speaks the truth." Added a pink female frog with short bushy orange hair. "Even the noblest heart can be tainted."

"From one individual, such ambition is easy to spot. But from many, it's a fog that fills a room." A grey-skinned newt joined in.

Lyra closed her eyes and took their words of wisdom to heart. Taking a deep breath, she released her sadness and calmed her mind. She was determined not to let her despair destroy her.

Opening her eyes, she took another glance at her three companions and then at the Box.

"Still hiding such object on a distant world, unguarded, for who knows how much time; very risky. I hope it won't ever return, but destiny is not jet done with it. We are putting a lot of faith in these houmans, did I pronounce that right?"

"It's actually pronounced Human". The Olm gave a light chuckle and continued. "Remember Lyra; true heroes can come from both the most unlikely and obvious of places."

"I'm ready," she declared, turning the small gold key at the right site.

"Thank you, Lyra." The Olm said, smiling at the female salamander. "You're going to make a wonderful Guardian, just like your brother, bless his soul." Silently adding in her thoughts.

"These heroes will not only expel the Night but also bring peace and clarity to all of Amphibia." The Olm spoke. "But until the time is right, you and the others must all disappear."

All four occupants in the room gave a nod of approval.

The box flickered with blue, pink, and green sparks. In front of it, a large circular purple coloured portal appeared.

Releasing the breath she didn't know was holding, she stepped into the portal and disappeared.

Pacific Coast / the Year 1019

She found herself in an environment, not so different from the one she knows.

On top of a large hill, surrounded by pine trees of all shapes and sizes, she can't help but admire her surroundings.

It all reminded her of the simpler times, ones of joy and laughter, before the dark times, before…

Snapping out of her thoughts, she looked around and located a clear forest floor, with pinecones scattered all around.

She started picking them up and removed their seeds, and collected them in a nearby pile. As far as she can remember, she had always loved to garden. She found gardening aesthetically appealing and peaceful.

Turning her head towards the box, she crouched down and placed her hand on it, whispering: "This way you won't be reached, and I…I pray that no one finds you prematurely and dooms this world, too many have suffered already because of you and us."

Standing up, she took a deep breath, concentrated, and reached out her hand.

Sparkly light enveloped her hand and a large chunk of earth enveloped levitated high in the air. Moving her other hand, she dispersed her gathered pine seeds around the box.

She took one more look at the box, before stepping across the portal back to Amphibia.

Closing her hand, the earth fell on the box, closing the portal and trapping it for the unforeseeable future.

"No turning back now" as the rays of the morning sun touched her skin.

Slowly turning around, she gazed upon Newtopia, once a shining city of hope and opportunities, then the center of an oppressive regime, now a broken husk of its former self. The place where she was standing was

"I would rather live short and right than long and wrong."

"Those who live without honor, die without honor."

"Brother, husband" Their last words rang in her head "I haven't forgotten and I never will" She will not let their deaths be in vain.

Suddenly an image of a large creature with eight dark-orange coloured eyes flashed in her mind. This made her clenched her fist tightly.

"You'll never win you maniacs." Her voice filled with venom, "The Heroes and Guardians will crush you…and I refuse…to let you…destroy the future…for my daughter."

"If only they quit trying to predict your fate and bend it to your will." Lyra jumped back a bit, as a new voice entered the scene. Next to her stood a slim green frog with long unkempt hair, wearing a silver jacket covered in stains, brown shorts with suspenders, and a headband.

"Jacob, how many times must I tell you not to sneak up on me like that?"

"Sorry bestie, I can't apologize for being myself." He smirked, joining Lyra as she continued glancing towards Newtopia.

"So I take it now I'll be seeing you in the wilderness more often." Despite keeping to himself knowing

"Yeah," Lyra said while looking down, knowing full well her exile has already started.

"Oy cheer up Lili, sure this 'storm' devastated Amphibia, but the sun is going to shine bright, warming the land and our hearts again," Jacob assured her.

He may be a pain in the behind, and yet he knew how to brighten the mood.

"The past is the past," Jacob said as he hugged her.

"Just remember; in the end, love will conquer all." Lyra smiled and leaned on to her best friend, feeling better about everything.

He took a few steps back "So how about a race lad, you know like we used to?

"You mean the times when I chased you after you stole something of mine?"

"Eh tomato, tomâto" Jacob chuckled. "Here seems like a good place to start, what do you say?"

He asked as he open his palm, revealing her Guardian badge he snatched seconds ago.

"Jacob" Lyra groaned, "Oh, it's on."

"Catch me if you can Lili."

Angeles National Forest / mid-2019

"I keep telling people; if you have a headache, try easing it with a walk in the woods, take aspirin only after that." The elderly woman with grey curly hair and oval glasses said to herself as she was walking on the forest trail.

"Plus it's a great opportunity to collect pine needles for my special hot pine needle tea. A much better alternative than cough syrup."

As she travels through the forest, she notices a small pine forest. She proceeds to exit the trail and reach out for the needles.

As she grabs the needles and places them in her basket, she catches a glimpse of a fallen pine tree a few meters away.

Slowly approaching the uprooted site, she can't but help sorry for the tree.

"Last night's wind did a number on you, still, you had a good life." She theorized that it should be at least 100 years old, judging by the sheer size of the tree. If plants could talk, each tree would have a story to tell.

Just then her toe gets stubbed. "Ah, silly Hazel, I really should watch where I…" Looking at her feet, she realizes the unknown object is made from shiny metal, reflecting the sunlight.

Picking it up and gently shaking it "Huh, empty."

Still, her curiosity remained. Placing the dirty mystery object in the basket, she decided to end her walk in the woods and headed home.

Being an antique shop owner is not glamorous, but Hazel doesn't mind. Seeing old items becoming part of people's lives once again, instead of collecting dust and spider webs makes it all worthwhile.

After a few minutes of scrubbing the object in the sink, she finally got a good look at it.

The mystery object was an intricately designed box, on the bottom half was a carving of a frog and a forest, and the lid had three different coloured gems.

"What if?" taking out her pocketknife she gently pressed the tip of the blade on the side of each gem.

To her disappointment, she successfully scratched all three of them. "Not an emerald, ruby, or sapphire? She tapped the blade on the crystals "I knew it was too good to be true, probably just coloured glass."

Taking another look at the box "Perhaps there's a place for you in the Thrift Stop." She does recall having an antique cupboard with similar frog symbols.

Picking the box she walked towards the cupboard near the shop's window and placed it on top of it.

"Today was certainly something." She declared "and who knows, perhaps you'll change someone's life." as she switched off the lights and closed the door.

All the while being completely unaware of the gem's sudden glow.

"Preost" is an Old English word meaning "Priest." In this fanfic, Preosts are spiritual and religious leaders of Amphibia

So... How was it? Trying too hard, not trying hard enough?

Personally, I am really excited for some of the upcoming chapters. It's going to get increasingly distant from canon as we move along.

Feel free to leave a Comment. Knowing people are interested keeps me motivated.
