"This is where you all placed during your exercises yesterday." Aizawa explained to everyone as a holoscreen projected from his scroll allowing all the students to see how they placed and where they ranked compared to their fellow first years. Their scores were all an average on how they did with Aizawa ranking their showings from one to ten and then making an average of said scores. "This should all give you a clear view of where you stand currently, both among your peers and your own self."
"This sucks…." Jaune groaned out, paling out and lowering his head after seeing himself come in last with Pyrrha quick to comfort him. "And Izuku got 5th…can't believe how far apart we are…"
"Hey man this ain't no picnic for me either…" Denki groaned out as he put a hand to his embarrassed looking face. "I know I ain't no muscle man but I had to do better than that right…"
"Tch…" Weiss let out with narrowed eyes. She didn't even crack the top ten. She had to start improving herself.
"Hehehe, you guys just need to lift more." Yang boasted, getting a huge confidence boost from taking the top spot of the board. Yang then flexed an arm and looked over it, admiring the muscle built up in it. "Oh yeah, that's what I'm talking about~"
"Hey!" Cardin growled out to both Russel and Dove who both looked rather nervous at seeing Cardin's less than happy expression. Meanwhile Sky, who placed in the top fifteen, had a rather smug looking grin as he looked at the other two. "You two better shape up or I'm gonna feed you to a pack of beowolves! Got it?!"
"Y-Yes Cardin!" Both Russel and Dove said in unison as they saluted their leader like he was a military officer.
"Fucking 3rd…" Katsuki gritted through his teeth. If there was anything he hated more than anything, even the likes of Izuku and Jaune, it was not placing first in a competition. He works hard to be nothing but the best and when something like this happens it just makes his blood boil. As Katsuki growled and tightened his fist, he sent a glare towards both Yang and Todoroki that went unnoticed by both of them. 'Just wait…I'll go so far ahead of them that they won't have time to mess up!'
"Alright! Way to go you two!" Mina cheered for both Shoto and Izuku with the former having his usual stoic look to him and Izuku looking quite surprised as well as flustered when Mina gave her praise. "You both made it in the top 5! Team IFMS is making it big! Same to you Fumikage, still making it in the top ten!"
"I suppose it shows that I still have some progress to make." Fumikage modestly spoke as he crossed his arms. "Though I suppose that was one of the main purposes of this assignment."
"I'm honestly surprised I made it that high up." Izuku scratched the back of his head with an awkward smile. "I thought I would be more in the middle of the pack honestly, I did mostly average on the exercises and other's like Nora and Cardin are at least a little physically superior to me, Ruby is certainly faster and Blake is more agile not to mention-"
"I think that's why you were ranked so high." Shoto spoke up, cutting off Izuku as he got into mutter mode. "You did pretty average on all the exercises while everyone else mainly excelled in certain categories."
"Huh, you think so?" Mina asked with a head tilt.
"That does make sense." Fumikage nodded in agreement. "Someone like Ruby obviously excels in test requiring speed but in physical strength she's lacking."
"Hey!" Ruby happened to overhear the conversation and yelled towards Fumikage while pouting. "Why don't you come say that to my face!"
"Easy there Rubes." Yang put her hands on her sisters' shoulders, smiling in a teasing way. "Put those tiny guns away."
"Don't you start too!" Ruby let out in embarrassment.
"That brings me to a point I'd like to make if you brats would stop talking." Aizawa spoke up firmly, instantly shutting up anyone that was talking. "As Fumikage pointed out, your semblances had a big part on where you placed. Ruby, Tenya, you two obviously excelled in speed but that won't be able to help you everywhere. You need to strive to round yourself in every category."
"Yes sir!" Tenya yelled out as he stood straighter than anyone else in his class with his head held high. "I shall do my best to meet both yours and Beacon's expectations!"
"U-Uh yeah…what he said…" Ruby meekly spoke up as she sweat dropped while pointing to Tenya. 'Does this mean I gotta start lifting weights now? Oh man…'
"I expect that of all of you. If you only push further in one area, you're going to fall short in others, a true Huntsman and Huntress should be well adept in all categories, being even the slightest bit short in something could be the death of you and/or others out on the field." Aizawa spoke with nothing but stern seriousness in his voice that made a bit of his students rather nervous. But there were others that were perfectly aware of this such as Weiss and Shoto who nodded in agreement. "And this brings me to what we're going to go over today and the rest of the time in my class over the year. Your teamwork."
"Teamwork?" Weiss blinked a few times as her mind turned to her interaction with Izuku the other day. How he talked to her about what being a team means and how she shouldn't write off Ruby as a team leader after only one day and not getting the chance to get to know her. So…teamwork was gonna be something she would strive to work on, being the best teammate instead of the best leader. But still, when it comes to this class Weiss couldn't help but wonder something. "But sir, isn't this physical fitness class? Isn't that what you said yesterday?"
"I said what do you think it's about, not that the answer was obvious. This may be registered as physical fitness, but this is my class and I get to run it how I want…for the most part…" Aizawa muttered that last part so no one would here. While Ozpin was lenient in letting Aizawa run his class the way he wants, the headmaster did put in some limits. "And there's gonna be much more to this class then simple fitness test and exercises."
"Oh boy that doesn't sound good…" Jaune whispered nervously as he gulped and dared to raise his hand. "L-Like what sir?"
"I already told you. Teamwork." Aizawa began explaining everything about what would go down to his students. "You five groups have been paired together rather you like it or not for the entirety of Beacon, that's four years and while there are some exceptions, most of you have never even knew the rest of your team existed until you were paired together. As such, you hardly know how to work together, especially with what I heard happened yesterday," Aizawa then turned an eye to Weiss who flinched in response. Little went on in this school that he and the faculty didn't know about. "And as a team, you are more than just four people paired up, you're a single unit. You live together, work together, study together, and in this class, you get graded together."
"What does that mean?" Cardin asked in a bit of snarky tone. "Get to the point already!"
Aizawa chose to ignore his behavior, they'll be plenty of time to deal with behavior like that from him and others at a later point. It'd be a waste of time to handle it now. "What I mean is that when a team fails a mission, it falls on all of them. And when they succeed it's because of all the parts of the team working together as one. As such in my class, when you get a good grade your whole team gets a good grade."
"W-Wait a minute…" Jaune blinked a few times as the horror of this situation caught up with him. "Then…that means…"
"Correct." Aizawa couldn't help but give a rather sadistic looking grin as he pressed a button on his scroll. "When you get a bad grade, your whole team gets a bad grade. As such, based on your performances on the exercises yesterday, here's the grades of each team based on how your whole team did overall on the exercises."
The holoscreen than changed to show the name of each team with a grade next to it.
RWBY – B+
JNPR – D
CRDL – C+
IFMS – A-
TKWD – B-
"Woohoo! Top of the class!" Mina cheered on as she wrapped her entire team in a hug cause Izuku to blush, Fumikage to sweat drop, and for Shoto to not show a visible reaction at all. "Team IFMS for the win!"
"Keep in mind these grades are based around only your personal scores." Aizawa informed everyone as he shut his scroll off and placed it into his pocket. "Your ranking among your classmates had nothing to do with your grade.
"Well at least we didn't fail because of me…" Jaune let out with a sadden sigh. "At least not yet…"
"Hey come on, there's no need to feel down about yourself Jaune." Pyrrha tried to reassure her team leader and put a supportive hand on his shoulder. "It's only the first class, I'm sure you'll do better with time."
"Heck yeah! After class we gotta work on getting you super jacked!" Nora pointed at Jaune with a rather mad grin causing the golden blond to look nervous. "I'm gonna make you into a powerhouse!"
"Little advice," Ren spoke up to Jaune. "Run while you can."
"Oh no you don't mister!" Nora pouted to Ren as she grabbed his ear, causing the ninja to wince. "We gotta work on your stamina too! I swear you can't run half a mile without passing out!"
"I'm aware of my weaknesses Nora." Ren said as he managed to get out of Nora's strong grip, rubbing his now sore ear.
"Enough!" Aizawa rose his voice. All of a sudden his red eyes glowed and his hair slightly rose up into the air. Nearly the entire class flinched and froze up at this, with no one saying a word. Once all the brats were quiet Aizawa's eyes and hair went back to normal. "Now that I've gotten the point across, I'll show you all today's assignment." Aizawa then reached into his opposite pocket and pulled out a remote. Aiming it and the mostly empty field in front of Beacon, Aizawa pressed a button and suddenly the field started to change. Everyone watched with surprise as hidden trap doors open up causing various things to rise up from the ground from a rock wall, to a small field of tires, and even a freaking swimming pool, forming an obstacle course.
"What the heck?!" Eijiro yelled with a shocked face. "What is all that stuff!"
"It was installed recently, to help with training you students." Aizawa explained simply as he put the remote back in his pocket. "You and your teams will have to complete this obstacle course. First you'll climb the rock wall, then you'll swing across to the next platform on the ropes in which you'll jump down on the logs, when you reach the ground you'll run across the tires, I'd watch which tire you're stepping in if I were you, afterward you'll swim across the pool and finally run up the incline and ring the bell and complete the course."
"Well this certainly seems rather grade school-like." Weiss commented as she looked over the obstacle course, feeling like it was nothing special. How could something like this improve them, much less their teamwork. "Rather easy if you ask-"
"And you'll all be tied together as well." Aizawa cut Weiss off, suddenly grabbing a series of five very long ropes.
"…I'm sorry what?" Weiss blinked a few times.
"I didn't stutter." Aizawa said as he started to throw the rope bundles to the five team leaders. "Like I said this obstacle course is designed to improve your teamwork, if you were all doing it by yourselves this would be a cake walk. But now your whole team will have to work together in unison to complete this test, a much more difficult task. So start tying yourselves together and line up at the start of it and I'll explain the rules."
"This is so freaking stupid…" Cardin grumbled out as he started tying him and his teammates together.
"Gotta tie myself up to these idiots…" Katsuki growled out as he very reluctantly tied his part of the rope around his waist. "So fucking dumb…"
"Hey man calm down it couldn't be worse." Eijiro said as he tied the rope around his waist once Katsuki was done. "We could be handcuffed together."
"Hey shut up!" Denki quietly hissed out. "Don't give our teacher any ideas!"
"A rather strange exercise but I suppose our teacher has his reasons." Fumikage commented as he tied his part of his teams rope around him.
Soon enough all five teams had rope tied around their waist, linking the teams together with all their teammates with very little distance to separate them. All the teams lined up at the start of the obstacle course like Aizawa stated with each team's leader being the first in line that was formed. "Took you all long enough, now here's how things will go." Aizawa began explaining the rules of this assignment/exercise. "In this exercise the time it takes you to complete the course will affect your grade. 5 minutes or under will get you an A, between 5 and 6 minutes will get you a B, between 6 and 7 minutes will get you a C, between 8 and 10 minutes will get you a D, and if it takes you over ten minutes to complete the obstacle course you fail. And like I said your whole team gets graded, if you fail your team fails and will have to take a supplementary class with me after the school day to make up. And if you untie yourself your whole team will instantly fail. And if you fall during any point in the obstacle course you will have to start over from the beginning."
"That seems a bit harsh…" Ruby spoke up rather meekly. Normally time requirements like that would be no problem, especially with a basic course like this since she could zoom through it with her semblances. But tied together with her team…that complicates things. "I mean ten minutes and a fail?"
"When your out on the field you and your team will have to get things done quickly and efficiently with no room for error." Aizawa firmly said causing Ruby to let out a squeak in response. "If you fall you'll have virtually no chance at getting an A on this, just like if you screw up on a mission, there's little going back from whatever mistake you just made. This course may seem simple, but it lays the foundation of what being a team is all about."
'Alright Jaune Arc, this is your moment to step up.' Jaune thought to himself, tightening his fist as a nervous bead of sweat fell down his head. 'Don't let your team get held back and fail just because you might screw up! I'm the leader I have to lead my team to victory and good grades!'
Weiss looked at the back of Ruby's head and once again thought back to what Izuku said. 'Even if you aren't the one leading it, you can still lead an impact. By being there for them, helping them, and just getting to know them.' Weiss glance at Izuku briefly before looking at her own team's leader again. "Be the best teammate I can be…"
"Huh?" Ruby let out as she looked back at Weiss. "Did ya say something Weiss?"
"…No," Surprising Ruby, Weiss gave her a rather small but still nice smile. "Let's just do our best and pass this course, sound good?"
"…Yeah!" Ruby soon smiled back and rose up a fist. "Let's do it! Team RWBY style!"
"Get ready…" Aizawa began as he pulled out his scroll again and brought up the timer, his thumb right above the start button and…
"Go."
"Move it!"
"Hey! Not so fast!"
"Ack! You're choking me!"
"Oh no I think I'm getting robe burn…"
"Ren, are you touching my butt~?"
"Nora!"
"Yep…that's about what I expected." Aizawa simply blinked at the sight as most of the teams started running forward, already beginning to fall and slip up due to their current binding together with team CRDL and JNPR in particular falling on their faces after just a few seconds. However, Aizawa noticed team RWBY so far hasn't moved at all, with Ruby looking up at the rock wall in front of her team. 'What are they up too?' Aizawa heard all about what went on between Weiss and Ruby the other day. A part of the reason he decided to push this so soon, usually he'd give it a few days before bringing out these sort of team exercises, but a few of the first years and their teams certainly got his attention and felt it was better to push this on them sooner rather than later.
"Ruby what are you doing?" Yang questioned her sister as she stood in place. "If we don't get moving we're gonna fail!"
"Wait guys, we need to think about this carefully." Ruby told her team with a surprisingly serious tone. Everyone blinked a few times in reaction as they looked down at Ruby. Weiss especially as she listened closely to what her team leader had to say. "If we just rush into it, we're gonna get ourselves all tangled up and lose for sure. Just look at team TEKD,"
The other members of team RWBY all looked to said team and…Ruby had a point.
"WOULD YOU IDIOTS KEEP UP!" Katsuki yelled out like a mad dog as he powered his way up the rock wall with Tenya and Eijiro barely able to keep up…and Denki hanging by the rope attached to his waist.
"Katsuki! Get back to your position right now!" Tenya yelled towards his teammate. "This is not orderly fashion!"
"DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO FOUR EYES!" Katsuki yelled back, refusing to follow orders.
"Hey man I like pushing it as much as the next guy but you gotta slow down!" Eijiro yelled as he tried to keep up with the pace in which Katsuki was flying. "You're not even the leader!"
"Guys…I can't breathe…" Denki let out as he started to pale out. "I think this is starting to press against my lungs…"
"…Ok that's fair…" Blake said with a deadpanned tone as Yang snickered at the scene.
"Hmmmm….oh! I got it!" Ruby smiled eagerly before she starting to…jog in place. Moving her both her right arm and leg as well as her left arm and leg in unison and developing a pattern. "Everyone! Do the same thing I'm doing! Get into the same motion as me!"
"Uuuuh…" Weiss let out as she resisted the urge to criticize Ruby for looking ridiculous right now. "Ruby-"
"Just trust me!" Ruby let out, cutting off Weiss and surprising her quite a bit. Weiss hummed for a second before nodding in agreement and started to do the same thing as Ruby. "That's it! 1-2! 1-2! 1-2!"
"Well…when in Vale I guess." Yang shrugged before doing the same thing as Ruby and Weiss. Blake blinked a few times before letting out a small sigh and doing the same thing.
Soon enough all of Team RWBY was moving in perfect sync with their in-place jogging before Ruby smiled and looking up towards the rock wall, with Team IFMS and TEKD already nearing the top, though one team was certainly more coordinated then the other, and yelled out to her team. "Alright everyone! Move forward but keep the rhythm!" Ruby told her team as they quickly started running towards the rock wall, and due to Ruby's little idea they were able to keep their footing quite well. "1-2! 1-2! 1-2!"
'Getting her team to move in perfect sync before moving forward, that's smart.' Aizawa thought as he watched Team RWBY beginning to climb up the rock wall, keeping their rhythm of moving their right limbs for the left. 'She must have figured out what it takes to complete this exercise.'
"C-Come on guys! Let's do what they're doing!" Jaune said as he and his team picked themselves up off the ground. "1-2! 1-GAH!" But as Jaune started to jog in place team CRDL passed by team JNPR with Cardin shoving Jaune onto the ground in turn causing his whole team to once again fall down to the ground.
"Ha! Later losers!" Cardin yelled with the rest of his team laughing in response to their leaders' actions.
"Hey! You get back here!" Nora yelled with as she shook her fist towards team CRDL. "I'll show ya crazy kids what for!"
"There's no time for that Nora!" Ren told his ginger haired friend as he helped her stand up along with the rest of JNPR. "We have to move."
"Come on Mina!" Izuku encouraged his teammate as they go closer and closer to the top. But as they climbed up Mina started to struggle a little bit. "We're almost there!"
"I'm trying…" Mina grunted as she managed to grab another piece of the wall. "Climbing…isn't exactly my forte…you know…"
Although it was challenging for the pink haired girl, she had managed to make it to the top of the wall along with the rest of IFMS. As soon as they were all standing on their two feet again, the team looked forward to the next part of the test, the rope swing. "So how are we all gonna get across together?" Izuku questioned as he looked over the obstacle. There were only 2 rows of four ropes, the goal obviously being to swing from one row of ropes to the other and then to the platform. "Hmmmm…I don't think the ropes are strong enough to hold us all at once so we're probably supposed to each grab a separate rope."
"But that's still tricky." Shoto brought up as he examined the course. "Our timing would have to be perfect. If one of us slips and falls we'd all probably end up having to start over."
"Aw man my hands got sore enough on the rock wall…" Mina complained as she used her aura to heal her sore hands.
"I believe I have a simpler solution in mind." Fumikage spoke up as he looked past the ropes and at the platform on the other side. "Dark Shadow."
Upon his call, Dark Shadow appeared out of Fumikage's body and smirked at the faunus. "What's the word boss?" Dark Shadow asked his master.
"We require help reaching the other side of this course." Fumikage explained as Dark Shadow looked to the other side of the rope course. "Think you can do it?"
"You bet!" Dark Shadow gave a thumbs up before stretching himself out past the rows of rope and grabbed the platform on the other side. "Alright everyone, hop aboard!"
"Grab on." Fumikage told his team. They all nodded as they grabbed Dark Shadow tightly with both arms. Once his team was secure, Fumikage started retracting Dark Shadow back into his body from his end, causing him and his team to go right over the gap between the platforms and landing right on the other side with no problem.
"Wow that was amazing!" Mina cheered as she patted Dark Shadow on the head, causing a tinge of pink to come to the shadow monsters' cheeks. "Thanks a bunch, I owe ya one!"
"Aw well you know, I like making myself useful." Dark Shadow tried to play the modest card…before striking a pose and pointing a thumb at himself. "I'm just that awesome!"
"Thank you for the assist Dark Shadow." Fumikage thanked his sentient semblance as Dark Shadow went back into his body. "Let's keep moving, we don't have time to waste."
"Hey!" As team IFMS moved onto the next part of the obstacle course, team RWBY finished climbing the rock wall in time to see Dark Shadow essentially help IFMS cheat the next part of the course. "That's not fair! They didn't even swing on the ropes!"
"Any use of one's semblance is allowed." Aizawa stated as he kept his eyes on the timer on his scroll. "If it can benefit the team as a whole then it shows the point of this exercise and what your trying to accomplish."
"Well if that's the case then I have my own solution to this." Weiss said as she stomped her foot on the ground. Underneath team RWBY appeared a large black glyph like the one that Weiss used to launch Ruby towards the Nevermore back in the Emerald Forest ruins. "Alright everyone, like Ruby said we have to stay in rhythm and in sync, so get ready to jump and when I say so, we all jump at once."
"You got it Weiss," Ruby looked at her teammate and smiled and nodded as she turned to Yang and Blake. "You two heard her, let's do it."
"Upsy daisy." Yang grinned as she and Blake bent their knees like they were getting ready to jump.
"…Now!" Weiss shouted as her entire team jumped up at once. With Weiss' black glyph they managed to leap across the entire part of the course and landing on their feet on the other side.
"Alright! We did it! Way to go Weiss!" Ruby shouted with glee as, to Weiss' surprise, the team leader went to go hug Weiss. But Ruby's eyes soon widened as she quickly removed herself from the Schnee and gain quite the sheepish look. "O-Oh uh s-sorry was t-that too much?"
"It was…alright." Weiss reassured Ruby with a calm smile. "Maybe just…lay off the hugs though."
"Right! Right! Of course, sure thing, hehe," Ruby chuckled as she scratched the back of her head. 'Alright Ruby slowly but surely gaining points.'
"Oh hell no!" Katsuki growled out as he got to the top of rock wall. He would've gotten their sooner if the rest of his team weren't so freaking slow. He practically had to drag them up the entire rock wall. "We aren't coming in fucking last!"
"K-Katsuki! Slow down!" Tenya let out as he and the others got up from the rockwall behind Katsuki, Eijiro helping Denki up. "We have to do this as a team! You can't just rush forward like that!"
"Screw that!" Katsuki yelled as he opened his hands up and aimed them behind him as they started to glow. "You extras need to keep up! I'm making sure we win this thing!"
"This isn't even a competition!" Denki yelled as he tried to get his breath back after it was all forced out of him on the wall. He then flinched as he saw Katsuki's hands glowing and radiating with aura. "Uh what are you doing?"
"Oh no!" Eijiro's eyes widened as he realized exactly what Katsuki was about to do. "He's gonna-"
BLAST!
"AAAAAAAAAHHH!" TEKD, with the exception of Katsuki, yelled out as the ask blond used his semblance to blast his team to the other side.
"MOMMY!" Denki yelled as he was dragged through the sky.
"Yeesh, can't say I envy those guys." Russel commented as he and team CRDL made it up the rock wall just in time to see team TEKD flying through the air.
"Enough talking," Cardin said as he tug on his rope forcing the rest of his team forward. "We gotta catch up, no way we can let those guys pull ahead of us."
"Excuse me! Outta the way!"
"Huh? W-WOOOOAH!" Before they knew it, team CRDL was pushed forward, causing them to fall right off the platform and land on the ground below.
"N-Nora," Jaune said as he and the rest of the team sweat dropped as Nora pushed team CRDL off with a gleeful grin on her face. "You…really didn't have to do that."
"Hey they struck first!" Nora defended herself as she pointed down at the groaning team CRDL. "I was just getting that sweet, sweet revenge~"
"Maybe let's just keep moving forward," Pyrrha said with a rather awkward tone and smile.
'Some are doing better than I thought.' Aizawa thought as he briefly glanced at each of the teams. Team IFMS and team RWBY were doing very well with the latter team actually beginning to pull ahead of the former team on the log jump portion of the course. Both teams were showing pretty decent teamwork. Completely contrary to that was team TEKD who pretty much had Katsuki powering through and dragging his unwilling team around with him.
Then there was team CRDL and JNPR who constantly seemed to be getting in each other's way while fumbling around themselves and struggling to keep up the pace while tied together.
'The first day showed me where they all stand individually, and today showed me where they stand as a large whole.' Aizawa mentally told himself as he mentally took notes of what he watched all the teams. 'They've told me everything I need to do with these kids…I'm gonna break them into pieces and have them build themselves back up again.' As he said this Aizawa's gaze turned to a few students including Ruby, Weiss, Jaune, Katsuki, Mina…and Pyrrha. 'Some more than others.'
DING!
DING!
"Huff…huff…huff…we made it!" Both Ruby and Mina said in unison as both teams successfully made it to the end of the obstacle course with both teams wet from the swimming pool and out of breath from having to run up the incredibly steep incline plane. It was close for both teams but…
"Team RWBY, you made it in 4 minutes and 49 seconds, IFMS, 4 minutes and 51 seconds." Aizawa gave both teams their time that he made sure to record as they rung the bell. "Good job, you both pass. And Team RWBY, glad to see you've done some work on your teamwork, keep it up and aim to do better."
Ruby and Weiss looked at each other briefly, meeting eyes as they both let out a small chuckle and smiled at each other before both looked to Aizawa and said in unison. "Yes sir!" Aizawa nodded his head the two girls before looking towards the other teams and-
"FUCKING HELL!"
DING!
With another blast from his semblance, Katsuki launched his team up the incline plane and managed to ring the bell just before the 5-minute mark. While they had passed in the A range, it was far from a victory in Katsuki's eyes. "DAMMIT! DAMMIT! DAMMIT!" Katsuki roared out in range, causing Izuku to flinch and back up. "FUCKING 3RD AGAIN!"
"Katsuki…" Tenya let out as he tried to catch his breath. "You need…to stop!"
"Get me loose from this psycho!" Denki yelled as he desperately tried to untie himself from his team.
"Tch, how childish." Weiss comment as she looked down at Katsuki, in turn causing him to growl and glare at the heiress.
"Ok I know I have some anger issues but this guy is just next level." Yang whispered to her team as well as IFMS with everyone nodding in agreement.
"He's like a rabid animal." Fumikage commented causing Katsuki's anger to rise.
"SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU EXTRAS!" Katsuki threatened, only proving Fumikage's point.
"Would you just calm down already!" Eijiro told Katsuki as he grabbed his shoulder tighter. "At least we got here in under five minutes so we still got an-"
"Team TEKD, you get a D." Aizawa informed the team, causing them to freeze for a second.
"…WHAAAAAAAAAT!" Katsuki roared as he got back onto his feet and gave the teacher his most threatening look. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE GOT A D?!"
"I thought you said if we made it in under 5 minutes we get an A!" Denki yelled after successfully untying himself. "What the heck!?"
"Yes, but you completely failed the whole point of this exercise." Aizawa told them with his own harsh look with a tone to match. "If you can't work together you have no hope of graduating together either. What I saw out there was anything but teamwork. Count yourselves lucky I'm not failing you all outright, but next time something like this happens you will be taking supplementary classes."
"Fucking…hell…" Katsuki struggled to not just snap and lunge at Aizawa.
"Alright, you all can untie yourselves and spend the rest of the hour what you want. I recommend you reflect on today's exercise and find ways to further improve your teamwork. Besides…" Aizawa then looked to teams JNPR and CRDL…who were both having to once again start over the course after both teams screwed each other up on the long jump. "They're going to take awhile."
LUNCHROOM
"You should have waited for my orders!"
"It would have taken us twice as long if we did what you said!"
"I want our team to succeed just as much as you do! But you have to cooperate with us!"
"Fuck that! You'll all just hold me back!"
"Where is this coming from?! We are all equals!"
"Oh please! That's a big load of shit! Like you extras could keep up with me, and I bet you just think you're better than everyone just because you graduated from some snobby combat school in Atlas!"
"S-Snobby?! What's that's supposed to mean?!"
"Geez those two have been at it since we sat down…" Denki commented as he and Eijiro watch Tenya and Katsuki enter a rather intense argument. Tenya was obviously trying to be stern but civil while Katsuki was just screaming everything like usual. "Everyone's starring at us, it's making me anxious."
"Hey! Would you too calm down already!" Eijiro snapped at the two of them, finally getting the two to break their little 'discussion' and look towards the red head as he gave the two a firm look. "Hey I get that today was a little rough but we can't have it break us apart like this! It's only the 2nd damn day!"
"You stay outta this shitty hair!" Katsuki yelled as he glared at Eijiro.
"I'm just trying to-wait? Shitty hair? We have the same hair style!" Eijiro pointed out as he pointed to both his own and Katsuki's equally spiky hair. Realizing he was getting off track, Eijiro shook his head before putting his stern look back on. "Look what I'm trying to get at is that we need to start acting like a team, all of us. Otherwise we're never gonna graduate school."
"I concur with you Eijiro!" Tenya let out as he nodded and started to make his unusual arm movements and gestures. "In order to work as a team we need to build a solid foundation and establish order! It's the only way to be the best team and Huntsman we can be!"
"While I'm all about that kinda thing I'm always referring to you too Tenya." Eijiro informed the Atlas boy, causing him to blink in confusion a few times. "Look I get that a leader is supposed to lead their team and such but there's times when you either gotta tone it down or consider what the rest of us think."
"Yeah like how 'wake up calls' for instance." Denki brought up as he gave Tenya a rather tired look. "Seriously it's like you try and cram a whole day's worth of training in a couple hours! I can't take four years of that! Heck I don't think I'm gonna last the week!"
"Well…I suppose I should have addressed it with you all…" Tenya was able to admit that. Stuff like that was just normal for him back at his combat school in Atlas so he figured that it was more or less the same thing for the other kingdoms. "But I-"
"No buts man, we all gotta come to a compromise to something like that capiche?" Eijiro told his team leader while making an OK sign with his hands. He did think Tenya was a good choice as a leader, Eijiro knows he wouldn't have made a good leader. He's more of a support guy. "And Katsuki…"
"Yeah what?" Katsuki said in an irritated tone as he picked at his food.
"You gotta learn to work together man, you can't just rush ahead without considering the rest of us." Eijiro told Katsuki in a light scolding tone, making the ash blond let out a low growl. He hated when people talked to him like this. "We're a team so we gotta stick together and work together! We all kicked ass together back in the emerald forest against the Grimm why is now different from then?"
"Grrrr, screw this!" Katsuki didn't provide an answer as he stood up from the table and grabbed his tray before walking away. "I'm eating outside!"
"Hey you can't just ditch us like-" But Denki's words were cut off as Tenya rose his arm.
"No, let him go." The glasses wearing teen said in a bit of a quiet voice. "Maybe some fresh air will help him calm down."
"Yeah I guess…" Denki let out with a tired sigh. Combined with Katsuki's behavior and Tenya's…Tenyaness, Denki was already wishing he could call it a day, heck he wanted the weekend to come already. "I'm gonna go get some pudding."
"You shouldn't have dessert before finishing your lunch." Tenya went back to his usual way of speaking as Denki headed towards where the dessert was. "Part of a healthy diet is…"
"I know. I'm just getting one before they run out…sheesh…" Denki rolled his eye as he put his hands in his pockets, muttering under his breath. "Freaking Atlas uptight…"
As Tenya simply went back to his food, Eijiro let out a sigh of his own as he rested his head on his hand. "We gotta lot of work to do…" The hardening sentence user mumbled. 'Still, hopefully I got through to them, at least a little bit.'
"I can't believe we failed…" Jaune let out as he face-planted on the table. After Aizawa's class team IFMS and RWBY were both feeling pretty good about their performance and grade for the day. Team RWBY especially since they came in first, despite it not being a real competition, with Weiss and Ruby looking a bit more comfortable with each other. Meanwhile team JNPR…well there wasn't much to celebrate when it came to their performance. "Second day and we're already having to do make up course…some leader I am…"
"Hey don't talk about yourself like that." Pyrrha tried to encourage Jaune as she softly placed her hand on his back. "It wasn't your fault Jaune."
"Yeah! It was team CRDL's fault!" Nora shouted as she banged her fist on the table. "They kept messing us up!"
"And we kept messing them up." Ren brought up, giving a reason as to why team CRDL was messing with them through the entire course. "And by we, I mean you Nora."
"Hey! They struck first!" Nora counter argued, defending her reasons for trying to mess up team CRDL. "If we didn't strike back they would have walked all over us! We can't have that!"
"Either way looks like both you and CRDL are going to be spending more time together after school with Mr. Aizawa." Fumikage brought up as he looked up from his food. "I would advise your team to stay focus on the objective rather than petty grudges, they'll only impede your progress at school."
"What does impede mean?" Eri asked after taking a bite of her apple.
"It means to get in the way of," Weiss explained to Eri…who she was allowing to use her lap as a seat. The Schnee heiress petted Eri's head as she looked to team JNPR. "And Fumikage's right…wow that felt weird."
"What does?" Ruby asked, her voice muffled from the food in her mouth.
"To agree with a fau-" But Weiss quickly cut herself off as he glanced down at the faunus girl in her lap before clearing her throat rather awkwardly. "Uh, I mean, just a feeling of Déjà vu from saying that ya know?"
"Oh yeah I get that all the time," Yang nodded towards Weiss as she explained her own story with Déjà vu. "Like when I'm driving on Bumblebee and I swear I've drove past the house multiple times by accident."
"I thought that was the excuse you gave Dad when you wanted to sneak out to party at night." Ruby deadpanned at her sister, mouth no longer full.
"I have no idea what you're talking about." Yang denied it all.
"Hmmmm…" Fumikage hummed a bit as he glanced at Weiss briefly before paying it no mind and going back to his food.
"Hey Izuku," Blake spoke up to the green haired boy. For the entirety of lunch Izuku hasn't participated much in the conversation. With one hand he was eating his lunch and with another he was writing something down in a notebook. "What are you writing?"
"H-Huh?" Izuku stuttered as he swallowed the food in his mouth. He flinched once he saw all eyes were on him and quickly covered his Huntsman Journal with his arms. "O-Oh uh, nothing much, just notes."
"Yoink!" But before Izuku knew it Nora suddenly zoomed up next to him and swiped his journal away.
"W-Wait!" Izuku pleaded as Nora looked over the pages he was on. "It's not done yet!"
"Ooooooo now what do we have here~" Nora said with a smirk and interested tone as she looked over what was on the two pages that Izuku was doodling on. "This is a preeeetty good drawing of Ruby ya got here~ Me thinks someones gotta crush~!"
"W-What?!" Ruby let out as her face went a tinge of pink as she dropped her fork in reaction.
"Gah! N-No! No! No! It's nothing like that I swear!" Izuku blurted out with his face quickly becoming red in embarrassment as he swiped his journal back from Nora. Letting out a sigh, Izuku placed his journal on the table for everyone to see so he could clear this all up. "N-No. This is my H-Huntsman Journal, I take notes on v-various Huntsman and Huntresses I meet and wr-write notes on them, from their weapons, f-fighting styles, and semblances. I was just working on Ruby's page."
"Oooooooh…" Ruby let out as her cheeks cooled down as she and everyone on looked at the pages of the journal. On the left side of the page was a pretty good drawing of Ruby in her combat gear like Nora said. On the right side was various notes about Ruby, from how she fights, notes about her weapon as well as a mini drawing of Crescent Rose next to it, and a score list grading her various attributes. "That's pretty cool act-hey! How come you only gave me a 2/5 on strength!"
"Nah that's accurate." Yang smiled in a teasing manner as Ruby pouted at her sister. "So what? You just write down stuff about people?"
"Essentially yeah," Jaune nodded, having known about Izuku's journal collection since his best friend started volume 1 back when they were 5 and wrote in Crayon. "Been making those for pretty much his whole life. I lost track of how many he's made so far."
"W-Well this is V-Volume 15." Izuku said to the surprise of many. He's made 15 whole journal's full of stuff like this? "And y-yeah like Jaune said I write down information about all the Huntsman and Huntresses I meet. O-Our hometown has a bar that lots of Huntsman like to stop b-by during missions so I would try to get all the information I can to help me w-when I become a Huntsman. Got notes of my old classmates and teachers from our old Combat Academy as well a-and I made notes on my own team after classes yesterday and now I'm starting to make notes on team RWBY. I-I-If t-that's o-ok that i-is I-I underst-stand if you d-don't want me w-writing you guys d-down."
"No you're fine." Blake said as she gave Izuku a small smile, with the rest of team RWBY giving nods of approval. Blake, as the avid reader of the table, had to admit she was impressed with Izuku's system. Knowledge is power after all and taking notes about other Huntsman and their semblances and techniques was a good way to pick up on a wide variety of skills and such. "It would be pretty interesting to see how you describe us."
"And you can ask me to pose for a drawing if you want," Yang sent him a wink as she started to do various poses that either showed off her arms, her chest, or both. "I know I got a lot of details to get down, hehe."
"Uh, y-yeah…" Izuku blushed lightly as he tried to avert his gaze from the blond girl.
"Yang stop trying to turn him on," Ruby nudged her sister a bit, causing Yang to let out a few chuckles.
"Well your free to ask questions about me if you want, I'd be happy to add to your journal." Weiss kindly offered to Izuku, causing a few eyebrows to raise among the people at the table. They didn't expect Weiss to be that…generous. All of them unaware to Izuku and Weiss' conversation the previous day and Weiss feeling it was the least she could do for Izuku to make up for giving her the little talk. "But moving away from that, today should be the day Glynda actually starts teaching Combat Class right?"
"That's what she said." Shoto spoke up after taking a bit of his soba. While many were a bit disappointed by what Glynda had them do yesterday, they get why she did that. But now that was behind them and everyone was just looking forward to actually learning how to fight and, more importantly, spar with their classmates. "This will be a step up from the combat we were taught in the combat schools, I wonder how she is going to conduct our lessons."
"We have to be prepared for anything." Fumikage said with everyone nodding in agreement. "No doubt we'll be taken to the next level, maybe even further than that. We already know some of the teacher's aren't holding back despite it being the first week, so anything is possible."
"Don't remind me…" Jaune mumbled as he lowered his head as memories of Aizawa's class replayed in his head.
"Can I stay and watch?" Eri asked as she looked up at Izuku. "I wanna watch you fight!"
"I don't know Eri," Izuku said with a small frown. "You still got your own schoolwork remember?"
"Aw…" Eri lowered her head and pouted a bit.
"Don't worry squirt, I gotcha covered." Yang reassured Eri as she ruffled the five-year old's head a little bit. "I'll record the fights for ya to watch later, and I'll make sure someone else is recording when I'm in the ring so you can watch your Auntie Yang kick everyone's butt!"
"Yay!" Eri cheered as she rose her arms up.
"Don't not corrupt this innocent child." Weiss said in a threatening voice towards Yang, the blond simply blowing a raspberry in response.
Wasn't long now until they experienced what combat in Beacon would be like.
COMBAT CLASS
After both lunch time as well as another Health and Medical class from Mrs. Suzenji, it was finally time for the class all the students were looking forward too, especially since they were actually gonna get to the main point of the class today. So, after everyone changed into their combat gear and retrieved their weapons in the locker room, they all gathered up in the indoor arena as Glynda stepped onto the arena. "Good day class," The combat professor greeted the first years. "As I stated yesterday we will begin our sparring matches-"
"FUCKING FINALLY!" Katsuki roared at the top of his lungs in aggressive excitement.
"…From this point forward." Glynda deadpanned at the ash blond. He was in need for a disciplinary lesson that was for sure. But for now she had a class to teach, so to start out she pulled out her scroll and pressed something on it, causing the tv screens above the arena to turn on with one being above the left side of the arena and another being above the right side, both screens had a portrait on it with a question mark inside. "Now, for the first three matches of every class I will be putting you all through a randomizer to see who will be facing who."
"So it's left to chance?" Tenya questioned the methods of such a system and rose his hand. "But ma'am, isn't there a better way to decide this?"
"Think about it though," Before Glynda could answer Tenya, Blake spoke up first and got his attention. "Out in the field you don't know what kind of Grimm we could end up facing, or even kind of person."
"Correct Ms. Belladona." Glynda nodded her head at the black-haired girl before looking to the whole class. "The main point of this is to see how well you can adapt to fighting a random opponent and see how your various styles clash."
"I see, I can understand the value of knowledge like that." Tenya nodded his head once he understood before putting his arms to his sides and raising his head. "Please forgive my interruption Professor Goodwitch!"
"It's quite alright," Glynda told him as she looked to her scroll again. "Now after this you are free to request a sparring partner of your choice, and we will be sticking to one vs one for now since you are all not used to working and fighting as a team yet, but as the semester progresses we will start doing two vs two, three vs three, and eventually full team battles. Now let's see who the first two opponents will be."
Glynda pressed a button on her scroll again and everyone watched as the portrait on the left screen started going through pictures of all of them at a rather fast rate before eventually stopping on…
"Ruby Rose!" A robotic sounding voice announced as Ruby's picture appeared on the portrait with a green bar under it, representing her aura level.
"Woohoo! Alright!" Ruby cheered as she stood up from her seat while holding Crescent Rose tightly. Meanwhile Yang pouted a bit that her baby sister got to spar before she did. "Time to show what I'm made of!"
"VS…" The robotic voice spoke up again as the portrait on the right started going through pictures until it landed on the picture of, "Shoto Todoroki!"
"Very well then," Shoto said as he stood up from his seat.
"Alright! Go get her Shoto!" Mina cheered on her teammate with two thumbs up. "Go show her what a member of team IFMS can do."
"You both will have five minutes to prepare." Glynda told the two combatants as they walked up to her, taking their respective side. "You can make any adjustments to your weapons and acquire any dust you wish to use in that time."
"Yes ma'am," Both Shoto and Ruby said in unison as they went off to quickly prepare.
Thankfully the five minutes went by quick. Both were able to make sure their weapons were good to go and picked up the dust they would be using in the fight. Once they were ready Ruby took her place at the end of the left side of the arena with Shoto opposite to her on the right. "We'll be using official tournament rules." Glynda informed the two as well as the rest of the class. "The winner is declared when one of the combatant's aura level goes into the red, or if they land outside the arena."
"Hey," Ruby spoke up to her opponent with a smirk on her face as she transformed Crescent Rose into its scythe form and twirled it around before holding it over her shoulder. "I know I might be younger than everyone else here, but you better not go easy on me."
"Trust me…" Shoto began as he started spinning his chakram's around his around, each glowing with their respective dust element, as he looked her right in the eye. "I wasn't planning to."
Just then a counter on the screens above started going down.
"3!"
"2!"
"1!"
"FIGHT!"
A horn blared signaling the start of the fight. Ruby let out a battle cry as she took the initiative. Using her semblance she ran towards Shoto at high speeds with rose petals left in her wake. She held Crescent Rse in both hands and, when she approached Todoroki, drew her scythe back vertically before going in for a blow at the dual haired boy's side. But the sound of metal meeting metal was all that hit Ruby's ears as Shoto was able to block the blow just in time with his fight chakram, catching the tip of Crescent Rose's blade inside one of his weapons holes.
"That was close." Shoto said to himself as Ruby freed her weapon from his and used her semblance again to speed behind him and go for a vertical slash with Shoto rolling forward to dodge as he turned himself around and around the revolver ends of his weapons at Ruby and shot at her with fire and ice bullets. But the younger girl proved to be good at the defense as she twirled around Crescent Rose to the point of it becoming a red and black blur to block the bullets. Shoto then narrowed her eyes as he threw his left chakram at Ruby with the blades of the weapon igniting with fire. Ruby whelped as he managed to duck under the flaming chakram, but that's exactly what Shoto was expecting.
Tightening his left hand into a fist and pulling his arm back, Shoto revealed a series of very thin string wrapped around his wrist connected to his weapon. Upon pulling his arm back Shoto was able to pull his weapon back to him and Ruby, who wasn't expecting such a thing, stood back up just in time to get hit in the back of the head causing her aura to appear for a brief moment and making her stagger forward. As Ruby's aura meter went down a bit Shoto took the opportunity of Ruby being stunned by the blow to charge forward at her.
Before the younger girl had a chance to recover Shoto delivered an uppercut to her chin causing her to rise up in the air a bit. While she was air born Shoto aimed before of his chakrams at her chest nearly point blank and fired both at the same time. Ruby let out a cry as she was sent flying through the air by the elemental attacks. The silver eyed girl gritted her teeth as she managed to recover in midair and quickly changed Crescent Rose into its sniper rifle form and aimed it at her opponent. Shoto let out a quiet gasp as he crossed his arms in front of him defensively as Ruby fired a series of three shots that all struck Shoto dead on causing him to grit his teeth in pain as his aura appeared to protect him.
Ruby once again changed her weapon into scythe mode as she slammed the blade into the ground to stop her from flying out of the arena. With her feet once again on the ground, Ruby sped forward with her weapon ready to strike. Shoto locked his eyes onto Ruby and was prepared to block the blow as she got right in front of him, only for Ruby to quickly activate her semblance again and zip behind him faster than he could react allowing Ruby to land a vertical slash to Todoroki back causing him to go forward. Using his new momentum to his advantage Todoroki twisted his foot to turn himself around to face Ruby and slash his right chakram forward and sent a wave of ice energy towards Ruby causing her front half to suddenly be covered in frost that caused her aura to activate to help protect her from it.
"H-H-Hey…" Ruby said as she quickly started to shiver. "T-T-That's pl-playing d-d-dirty!"
"Woah look at them go," Denki commented as he and all the other students kept their eyes locked onto the match. "Can hardly keep track of Ruby,"
"They seem pretty even, more or less," Tenya added as he looked up at the two screens to compare their aura levels with Todoroki's bar being a bit fuller than Ruby's. "Though Todoroki had the higher aura level it's still to early to see who the winner will be."
"Come on Ruby!" Yang cheered for her sister with a raised fist. Meanwhile she had her scroll in her other hand recording the fight for Eri just like she promised. "Kick his butt!"
"What do you think Izuku?" Fumikage asked his leader as Mina was busy cheering on Shoto. "Who do you believe has the advantage?"
"Hmmmm, well like Tenya said it's kinda hard to get a feel for that now…" Izuku eye's were locked on the two fighters as he analyzed everything he could to the best of his abilities. In his hands were his notebook and a pencil, ready to take notes on both Shoto and Ruby depending on what he saw. "But it's safe to say that Ruby has the advantage in speed and agility, plus her weapon is better at longer ranges so she could always try to play it safe from a distance. But Shoto's physically stronger and his semblances makes any dust he uses more powerful, plus I think his aura might be stronger too."
"So it's a matter on how they best play their strengths." Fumikage summarized with crossed arms with Izuku nodding in response.
"I think so yeah," Izuku agreed as he wrote something down. "It all depends on if Shoto can keep up with Ruby's speed as well as her distance advantage."
"Alright pretty boy," Ruby smirked as she twirled her scythe around before getting into a running position. "Let's see you keep up with this!" Activating her semblance again, Ruby started speeding forward. But not towards Shoto. Instead of trying to rush her opponent Ruby started zooming around the arena in all directions. Constantly turning and zig zagging around. "Gotta go fast!"
"…" Shoto was silent as he tried to keep his eye on Ruby, but that proved easier said than done. She seemed to be slowly gaining speed as she built up more and more momentum, not to mention the aftermath of her semblance causing rose petals to scatter around and obscure his vision. "Gah! Ugh! Grk!" Shoto started letting out grunts of pain as Ruby mainly began to attack him. The Petal Burst semblance user quickly rushed up to Shoto and struck him before dashing back into various directions before she began to rinse and repeat herself, going got a hit and run strategy.
"Oh man, I think I'm getting motion sick just watching this…" Jaune groaned out as he held his stomach. "How does anyone handle moving that fast."
"It's a good strategy." Pyrrha commented as she looked up at Shoto's aura level briefly, seeing with every hit Ruby made lowered it little by little, even getting him into the yellow. "With how fast she's moving and the rose petals she's obstructing his senses and making it hard for him to concentrate, breaking his stance."
'I can't keep taking hits like this, I need to find a way to deal with her speed,' Shoto thought as he struggled to keep on his feet as Ruby delivered quick blow after quick blow. Suddenly his dual-colored eyes widened as an idea came to mind. Tightening his fist around his right chakram, his right side starting glowing brightly as he activated his semblance before getting on one knee and standing his ice chakram into the ground. "Let's see how you handle this!"
"Huh?" Ruby let out before her eyes widened as she looked at the ground and saw exactly what Shoto was up too. Using his ice dust and powering it up with his semblance, he was spreading a field of ice throughout the arena and unfortunately for Ruby she wasn't able to stop herself before the ice spreading below her feet and combine that with the speed's she was going at there was only so many things that could happen. "WOAH! WOAH! WOAH! WOOOOOOOAH!" Ruby yelled out as she slipped right off her feet and into her back and started sliding through the arena, keeping a tight hold on her weapon, Ruby stuck the blade into the ice to try and stop herself, and she was just in time to. "AH!" Ruby saw her feet were dangling over the edge of the arena, threatening to ring her out.
"Using your semblances is gonna be a lot harder for you now," Shoto narrowed his eyes at Ruby as she struggled to get back onto her feet, trying to use her weapon as a support. Shoto than stomped his feet on the ground causing small metal blades to come out of the soles of his shoes that he used to skate towards Ruby as she was getting up. "Let's see how you recover!"
"That was smart on his part," Weiss commented as he watched Ruby narrowly avoid a punch from Shoto as he skated up to her. But dodging caused her to once again fall on the icy floor right on her face and allowing Shoto to fire a fire dust bullet at her and taking away a good chunk of her aura. "Freezing the ground will make it hard for Ruby to use her semblance and stay on the arena."
"Not to mention the sniper rifle on her weapon." Blake added in as Ruby tried to strike Shoto with her weapon only to slip up and struggle to keep her ground only for Shoto to high kick her in the chest. "Due to the heavy recoil of it using that won't be easy on the ice."
"Come on Ruby…you gotta find a way out of this…" Ruby whispered in between her breath as she took another blow from Shoto, using her weapon to help stand up. Using her semblance and her sniper rifle was a big no-no unless she wants to risk ringing herself out. And even using her scythe was difficult as she couldn't even stand well on the ice and Shoto's mobility was way better than hers at the moment. But suddenly a lightbulb went on in her head as she looked down at her belt where she kept her ammo packs, remembering one certain one she had. "Wait…that's it!"
Shoto glared a bit at her as he saw her planning something. "What's she up too?" Shoto decided not to think about it and started skating towards Ruby. 'I should ring her out before she has the chance to retaliate!' But right as he was about to approach the scythe wielder…
BANG!
"Woohoo!" Ruby let out as she aimed the rifle end of Crescent Rose at the ground, using the recoil of the weapon to launch herself into the air. Shoto's eyes widened a bit in response as Ruby quickly undid the cartridge inside her weapon, discarding it and quickly replacing it with a new one that had a lightning bolt symbol on it. Smirking, Ruby once again aimed at the ground and fired another series of shots only these bullets are electricity radiating off of them.
"Wait!" Shoto let out, but it was too late. The bullets, which were infused with electric dust, hit the ice around Shoto and already began their work conducting through the ice and in turn Shoto. "Grrrrrrr!" Shoto grunted in pain, his fist clenched, and teeth gritted as the electricity coursed through his body. Once it was over Shoto's aura took a rather hefty hit as smoke came off his body, the dual haired teen breathing heavily as he fell onto one knee.
"RAAAAAAAHHH!" Ruby let out as she aimed her weapon behind her and fired into the air, using the recoil to send her flying back towards the arena. Before she landed she twirled her weapon around the few times before raising it up high and as soon as she was about the hit the ground she smashed the ice on the ground with her weapon as hard as she could, piercing right through it with the scythe.
CRACK!
Cracks started forming on the ice from where her weapon pierced it until the whole thing shattered into pieces. While there were many shards ranging in sizes, the arena was mostly clear of ice meaning no more slipping and falling.
"Dang look at her go! Those were some pretty sick moves!" Denki complimented with a grin as he continued to watch the spectacle in front of him. "Though I ain't no scientist, I thought ice sucked at conducting electricity, what's up with that?"
"It's because it was made with ice dust." Katsuki, surprisingly, gave an answer to Denki's question as he watched the battle with a neutral look the entire time. "Ice created with dust has more energy in it, combined with the fact that Icy Hot used his semblance to further power it up it gave rose bud the opportunity to use electricity against him."
"Heh, how do you like that?" Ruby couldn't help but boast a little as she held her weapon over her shoulder. "Now let's finish this!"
"…That was a clever strategy you used." Shoto complimented her, surprising Ruby a little bit as she blinked in response. With a bit of effort, Shoto stood up and turned to face Ruby…with only one of his chakram's in his hand. "But you already lost."
"H-Huh…" Ruby gasped as she tried to find the other chakram to find out what Shoto was planning by following the strings he was holding…and seeing it right at her left leg with the strings wrapped around it. "W-Wait what are you-"
"When you jumped, I threw it." Shoto explained as he held the strings tightly and activated his semblance. "As a fail safe depending on what you did! Now freeze."
And Ruby didn't even know what hit her. With absolutely no time to react she was blinding by the glow of dust activating and by the feeling of intense cold hitting her. And in just a few seconds…
"Ruby!" Yang called out as she, the rest of her team, and everyone else gasped as they saw Ruby covered in a layer of ice with only her neck and head still exposed and a bit of frost covering her frost.
"C-C-C-C-C-Come o-o-o-on…" Ruby shivered out intensely, moving proved to be no good. She couldn't even wiggle her icy fingers. "T-T-T-That's j-j-just n-not fair…"
BEEEEEEP!
Just then the sound of a horn blaring hit everyone's ears as they looked up at the screen. Ruby's aura had officially hit the red while Shoto's was in the orange. The winner of the fight was decided. "Winner – Shoto Todoroki!" The robotic voice said as Shoto's picture dominated both screens.
"And there you have it students," Glynda said as she stepped back onto the arena. She had to admit she was impressed with what she saw. Shoto showed great skill on the field, which given his heritage is no big surprise, and Ruby held her own quite well, especially near the end there. "By sparring with each other not only can you learn from each other but build on each other. Finding flaws in one's combat abilities and work to improve them. Now we will go over this battle a bit before moving onto the next, Mr. Todoroki, will you so kind as to help Ms. Rose out of the ice?"
"Yes ma'am." Shoto nodded his head as he took out a fire dust crystal from his belt and held it in his left hand. Walking up to Ruby, Shoto activated his semblance causing the dust crystal to glow brightly as it generated a great amount of heat.
"Oh sweet warmth…" Ruby let out in delight as she quickly started to melt out of her ice prison. "I'll never take you for granted again." Thankfully it didn't take long to melt Ruby out, and once she was free she looked up at Shoto and smiled at him. "Hey, you were really cool out there! The way you used your weapons and especially that ice floor were really awesome!"
"Thanks, you always did well out there." Shoto told Ruby with his usual tone, causing her to be taken aback a bit. "I can see why you moved up two years, you're very skillful."
"O-Oh, well ya know it's not that big of deal." Ruby couldn't help but laugh a little nervously at the praise as she lightly kicked the ground and crossed her arms behind her head, trying to look cool. "Just doing my best just like the rest of us ya know?"
Shoto nodded his head before he turned around and began walking away. "Come on, we should go sit back down," The dual haired teen told her.
"R-Right!" Ruby smiled eagerly and sped walked towards the bleachers. "Can't wait to see who we fight next!"
It may only be the second day, but Beacon was already off to a grand start.
And boom! Chapter 5 done!
I really liked what I did with this chapter
First focusing on the various teams and how they all function, and then getting into the fight. Really like showing the different teams interacting and such, it's just a lot of fun to write.
And I also enjoyed writing the fight scene. So one thing I wanna ask you guys, what fights would you like to see? I already have a few planned but I wanna see if there are a few sparring sessions that could take place in Glynda's class you all wanna check out. It can be 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, or full team vs team. One condition, when it comes to anything other than 1v1 make sure that the partners of the groups are still in one team. Like Izuku can only team up from someone from IFMS, like that. Don't worry there's gonna be plenty of opportunities where other characters from other teams work together trust me.
So with that said remember to favorite, follow, leave a review and stay tuned for the next chapter...
