"Millie, where is Sir Robert? I need to speak with him urgently!" Thomas shouted at her when he came rushing into the Ulfstead Castle Station.

"He's in the castle Thomas, why-"

"It's the Flying Scotsman! He's in danger, the Director is here, he's going to scrap him!" Thomas called desperately.

"Flying Scotsman? But we don't have-"

"It's quite alright Millie," the Earl said as he approached them. "I can handle this."

Thomas looked desperately at the Earl.

"Sir, it's the Flying Scotsman he's-"

"In Ulfstead Mine I know," the Earl said and Thomas was shocked that Spencer hadn't been lying about the Earl being in on the plan

"The Director, he's," Thomas begged desperately. "Gordon he's going to-"

"I know, I know," Sir Robert said reassuringly. "Scotsman's driver Vincent went missing a few hours ago so we've been racing to set up the trap for Cain."

"Gordon's about to go ballistic," Thomas said in a panic. "I don't think I've ever seen him so pissed off. If Scotsman gets damaged because of this, I don't think he'll be happy with you."

The Earl looked pensive and regretful.

"I agree with you Thomas, but this plan was at the request of the Scotsman himself. A final effort to stop Cain from harassing and tormenting him." Sir Robert looked up at Thomas sadly. "I offered to devise another plan but the Scotsman… he's a stubborn old engine. He wanted to do it his way, he was almost feverish and unnatural in his zeal for it."

Thomas was utterly shocked.

The Flying Scotsman had willing offered himself up as bait.

He'd willingly put himself in danger.

"How, how long was he planning this?" Thomas stammered. "Why didn't he tell anyone!"

"I don't know, but Vincent told me that he thinks that Scotsman has been planning it for years," The Earl said with a frown. "When I spoke to Scotsman he seemed… unhinged and paranoid. He didn't seem in his right mind."

"Then why did you let him hide himself!"

"Because I could not convince him otherwise and he was determined to find somewhere else to hide out if I did not allow him," Sir Robert said with a defeated sigh. "At least in Ulfstead mines I could keep an eye on him and intervene if things came to the worst."

"Is that why you sent Percy and Stephan down there?" Thomas asked. "To find Scotsman and let someone know what was going on?"

"Yes," Sir Robert said. "I've had enough of this charade and it was cruel to leave Gordon and their sister in the dark for so long. I was an idiot for not letting Sir Topham know but, things are complicated when it comes to Flying Scotsman. He holds a lot of power over the railways despite him not believing so. If the North Western Railway was found to be compliant in 'stealing' him then Sir Topham would lose a lot more than his job."

Thomas was silent. He was afraid and confused. He knew that there was a lot of things involved between railways, engines being lent here and there, some engines like Scotsman, the Duchess and Mallard being prized and holding sway over the entire system.

Stealing an engine like Gordon's brother would bring nothing but chaos to their little island and it partly already had.

"We need to stop this, we need to fix this! Or Gordon might do something really stupid or reckless! He's going after Green Arrow and the Director!" Thomas cried out.

"I agree," Sir Robert turned to Millie. "Please get Stephan to inform Sir Topham Hat of what is going on. Thomas, take me to Ulfstead Mines. We need to stop this silliness right away."

"No, no, no!" Vincent cried out as Green Arrow approached Ulfstead Mines. "How did you find out!"

His hands and feet were bound and he was helpless in the Green Engines cab. Cain stood over him with a smirk.

"You went to see him last weekend," Cain grinned viscously. "Such a shame, I was close to searching elsewhere, but you slipped up."

Vincent wanted to kick himself. He'd been weak and caved, visiting his engine out of sheer desperation. His desire had lead to this, Cain finding the Flying Scotsman and now the grand engine was in deep trouble.

He saw the cutters and tools in the cab of Green Arrow sitting in a small crate and felt sick.

He glanced at the Fireman and Driver of Green Arrow.

"Why are you helping this idiot who has no respect for engines," he snapped at them. The fireman gave a shrug.

"Scotsman's parts pay good money," he said and Vincent glared at him.

"Scotsman's more than just an engine," he spat back. "He's a part of history! You'll be considered a criminal for the rest of your life!"

"I'll be a rich one," the fireman grinned before turning back to Green Arrow's firebox.

Vincent was both furious and upset. He's slipped and caused this and now he solely was responsible for what was about to happen.

"I'm sorry Scotsman," he whispered under his breath. "Please forgive me."

"Scotsman is a machine," Cain said coldly. "Nothing more than that. A machine designed by humans."

"Your father would have disagreed," Vincent said angrily. "Sir Gresley would have too. Flying Scotsman was Gresley's pride and joy, the engine he chose to show the world. There are fewer engines more distinct than he. His memory will outlive any money you'll ever make. And all you'll be remembered for is a thief and a crook."

"At least I'll be remembered," Cain grinned and Vincent wanted nothing more than to strangle the horrid man.

"We're here," Cain grinned as Green Arrow stopped in front of Ulfstead mines.

Arrow stared at the entrance apprehensively.

"Maybe we shouldn't," he said nervously. Spencer's words lingered in his mind. He didn't want to be outcast anymore from the other engines. Especially now since Tornado was slowly climbing the ranks and making it known she was no longer taking anyone's nonsense.

Pendennis Castle and now Mallard of all engines had vouched for her standing. Mallard's intentions were to of course replace Flying Scotsman as quickly as possible while Castle seemed to be a genuine parental figure who wanted her to shine.

He knew Mallard intended to try and manipulate Tornado.

Somehow Arrow didn't see it happening. Castle and Truro had a tight grip on swaying the Young Iron away from Mallard and Tornado seemed to a sensible and level headed young engine.

"I can use these tools on you," Cain threatened. "You'll fetch me a pretty price too."

Green Arrow immediately regretted this entire venture.

He hated Flying Scotsman.

But not at the cost of his own life.

He watched as his driver and fireman removed the boards to the mine and haphazardly discarding them.

A feeling of dread overcame him but he didn't understand why.

"Forward," Cain ordered and with some resistance Green Arrow ran forward into the mine.

"Himself! Himself? What do you mean this was all his idea?" Gordon thundered furiously at the Earl as Thomas went to meet the big engines.

"He was very… insistent," Sir Robert said cautiously. "Had I not said yes he would have gone off and done it else where. I would rather he be in a place where we could intervene if necessary."

Gordon saw the logic in that but huffed indignantly nonetheless.

Spencer looked warily at Gordon. Although the more sensible of the two brothers, he didn't want to find out if the blue one could also trick him into a lake for a couple of days.

Or at least a day.

Gordon seemed a bit more kind hearted.

A bit. But not much.

"Gordon! Thomas!" A familiar voice called and all three engines looked up to see Hiro barrelling towards them at high speed.

"Hiro?"

"Hiro what's wrong?"

Hiro came to a screeching halt before gazing at them frantically although Spencer didn't miss the glare the Japanese engine shot him.

"I saw a strange green engine on the track to Ulfstead mines-"

Hiro was suddenly cut off immediately as Gordon let out furious gush of excess steam and stormed off without another word.

"Gordon wait!" Thomas cried out and went after him, his 6 wheels pounding the rails furiously.

However hard he tried, he was no match for Gordon's speed or fury.

"Wait Thomas, let me take the Earl," Spencer called as he pulled up alongside him. "I can catch Gordon easily."

"You?!" Thomas scoffed angrily. He still held resentment towards the engine for the way Spencer had antagonised him and tried to scrap Hiro.

"He's right Thomas," Sir Robert said with a smile. "I'm afraid that you'll never catch up but fear not, I shall keep Spencer in line."

"Alright," Thomas said reluctantly before the two stopped and allowed the Earl to board Spencer's cab. "Make sure Gordon doesn't do anything stupid."

Spencer gave a grunt.

"I'll try, no promises though," he said before storming off at speed and vanishing into the distance after Gordon.

Thomas could only watch after him pensively.

Green Arrow stared as the white sheets dropped to the ground revealing the motionless form of the Flying Scotsman.

He was still and silent and under the light of his lamp he looked as pale as a ghost and dead. A thick layer of dust covered him and rust was starting to form on parts of him. Green Arrow felt dread in the pit of his boiler.

The famous engine didn't even look alive. He looked dead and cold.

A manic and hysterical giggle came from Cain as he grinned greedily and lustfully at the dormant engine before him.

"Run him off the turntable," Cain ordered and Arrow was shocked. "Wake him up."

He didn't want to touch the Flying Scotsman and he most certainly didn't want to risk damaging himself.

"Sir there's no point, you've found him, let's just-"

"Run him off the turntable now!" Cain shouted and Arrow cowered pathetically before gathering steam and backing up before slamming into the Scotsman's buffers sending the engine backwards into the dark and hitting the buffers at the end of the tunnel.

The Flying Scotsman did not awaken nor did he even flinch.

"Is he… dead?" Arrow's fireman asked frightened.

"He'll wish he was when I am through with him," Cain snarled viscously before climbing out and approaching the Flying Scotsman. He hit and struck the engine in an attempt to get a reaction but there was nothing.

"You'll run from me no longer you petulant child," he snarled angrily at the silent engine. "I will make you regret having lost me everything to that new woman."

The new director, as soon as she had taken the seat, had purged all of Cain's allies on the board and subsequently released all his criminal doings to the authorities and the public. The law was now coming after him extra hard and it was coming from a nobody engineer who's highest position before hand had been the engineer on engines Caitlin and Tornado.

It didn't cross his mind that she may have been friends with Sir Robert but then again Cain was not known for thinking about anything else other than money. To him, he was merely insulted that he'd been replaced by someone he saw as 'working class'.

He climbed into the cab of the Flying Scotsman and stared around before taking the cutting tool and attempting to cut the dials and pressure gauges off of him. To his surprise the Flying Scotsman did not react even the slightest, remaining still and dormant.

He was disappointed.

He had wanted the Scotsman to scream and beg for mercy.

What a shame.

A creaking sound sounded through the Flying Scotsman's boiler and Green Arrow suddenly became nervous, backing away from the dormant engine. His driver and fireman were suddenly nervous and agitated too.

It sounded like the Scotsman was heating up which was impossible.

A loud sound suddenly burst from the Flying Scotsman, almost like he was blowing off excess steam; however there was no steam, only phantom sounds and the metal of the Scotsman's boiler groaning.

"Uh sir," his driver tried to call Cain but he was ignored.

Cain was far too preoccupied with destroying the Scotsman to realise that somehow the Flying Scotsman was reacting. Just in a very unnatural way to what he thought.

Suddenly the fire doors to the Flying Scotsman's firebox roared open and a huge wave of heat exploded into the cab.

Cain flinched frightened but then stared angrily at the Flying Scotsman.

"You don't scare me you heap of junk," he snarled.

As if in response an invisible force suddenly slammed Cain onto floor head first with such force he blacked out for a few seconds. When he returned to consciousness however he found his vision blurry and the Flying Scotsman moving yet no one else was in the cab.

Green Arrow let out a scream of fear as the Flying Scotsman suddenly began moving towards him. His eyes were still closed and he was still dormant however his driving wheels were clearly working under some strange force.

"Reverse! Reverse! Reverse!" He screamed in panic to his crew who were in an equal state of panic and confusion as the Flying Scotsman began storming towards them like some kind of freakish ghost train.

He didn't get very far however when he heard a voice thunder behind him.

"YOU!" Gordon's voice echoed around the cavernous mine but Green Arrow didn't stop, only switching tracks and fleeing backwards as best he could.

"GET BACK HERE YOU-"

Gordon stopped as he suddenly saw what Green Arrow was fleeing from.

"He has no fire, no water, no crew!" Arrow shrieked hysterically. "How is he moving!?"

Gordon stared as he saw his brother charging after Arrow, still unconscious yet his driving wheels were turning and no steam came from him.

"Brother?" He called out but the Flying Scotsman did not stop, did not even acknowledge Gordon. He kept charging after Green Arrow with a feverish determination. Gordon went to chase them but froze after he saw his brother's running board.

There was a ghost like apparition on it. A human.

A very familiar human that his brother was often associated with.

"No, it can't be."

Green Arrow screamed and fled deeper into the mine, desperate to get away from this freakish ghost train.

He was so terrified and so concerned with escaping the Scotsman that backed into Spencer who hissed steam at him and pushed him forward with an angry shunt.

"Watch where you're going you little criminal!" Spencer thundered angrily at Green Arrow. Spencer then pushed him forwards with an angry snarl.

"The- the Scotsman!" Was all Green Arrow could scream in response.

Spencer looked ahead and saw the Flying Scotsman charging towards Green Arrow with no steam.

Before he could react however The Flying Scotsman suddenly slammed into Green Arrow and pushed both Arrow and Spencer back towards the entrance tunnel of the mine.

"I say, what on Earth is going on?" The Earl sounded just as confused and bewildered as everyone but an enormous crack suddenly caught his and Spencer's attention.

Above them, part of the ceiling had staring to crack and small rocks showered Spencer and Arrow's tender.

"THE CEILING!" Sir Robert yelled but found himself jolted and fell to the floor of Spencers cab as the Scotsman had violently shoved Spencer and Arrow out of the way before the entire roof came down.

There was the sound of rocks and dirt falling onto something large and metallic then nothing as a huge cloud of dust hung in the air.
