Summary: AU where Kathryn works in an office and just got out of a relationship with Mark and Chakotay is the delivery driver she sees everyday.
A/N: I own nothing, wish I did.
Mondays were normally boring and Kathryn dreaded them, or at least she used to. Now Monday's brought joy and anticipation. It was quickly becoming her favorite day of the week. It had been 3 weeks since her relationship to Mark had officially ended. It had been a very long time coming, but Kathryn determined and stubborn wanted to prove everyone wrong, in the end all she was doing was delaying the inevitable. Even though it had been 3 weeks since she and Mark decided to part ways, she hadn't noticed any major changes in her life, which made her question just how long they had really been living separate lives.
In all honesty she realized she stopped thinking about Mark all the time around the time the new package delivery driver started showing up more and more. One day he popped by her desk because the ladies up front were busy on phones and her office was the closest one to their desk. So everyday she started signing for the packages. The jokes soon started that he only had eyes for Kathryn, she just laughed and went about her day. Then the holidays came, he was even busier than usual so she offered him a bottle of water and a snack, he was thankful then went about his day. It was months before she even found out his name.
Chakotay
Such an intriguing name, she had to look up its meaning and held a silent laugh when it came back "Gift from God". He was a gift from God alright. His tan muscular body, most likely that way from having to lug the packages all the time, the tan from having to always be outside. His smile lit up a room, at least it lit up Kathryn as she sat there behind her desk everyday waiting for the daily delivery.
Some days he didn't come by and they sent someone else in his place. Those days were not as fun and in fact rather lonely. There was no one to call her gorgeous or flirt with her, it was just another boring day without him. Now she found herself getting dressed up even more than normal, she wanted to look good for him, to put on a show. Maybe she was primping trying to get more of his attention, she was never really sure of that answer. She hadn't noticed the day that he took one of her cards from her desk, she wasn't sure if it was so that he could learn her name or have her office number, either way the thought of him having that information made her skin tingle with anticipation. He didn't know that she was the manager, in charge of everything, he didn't know that everyone watched everything that she did with baited breath. He didn't know she was lonely or that she hadn't been touched by a man in months! All he knew was that she had a nice smile and to him she was gorgeous and he was intrigued by her.
One day he totally surprised her.
"You know, I had a dream about you last night." He stated matter of factly like it was an everyday occurrence, a sly smirk on his face as he handed her the tablet to sign.
"Really now? And what was I doing in this dream?"
"You were on a white cloud, following me and protecting me as I went about my day."
"Sounds like I was your guardian angel."
"You very well could be." He said as he took back the tablet and put the pen in place. "Have a great day!"
He turned and walked out, then she didn't see him the rest of the week. It was almost like he was teasing her. Telling her that he dreamed about her then not coming back the rest of the week was torture. Why would he even say anything like that? It was completely inappropriate right. Then why did she feel like she was missing out on something or was it someone.
It was late into the next week when she saw Chakotay again, and while she was happy to see him and know that he was alive and hadn't been hit by a bus somewhere. Instead of questioning, she just smiled and took the tablet and made her own out of the blue comment. "You know if you plan to disappear for a week, you should really give someone warning."
"They changed my route last week, to cover someone who was sick. Did you miss me?"
"And why would I do that?"
"Because you know that I make your day."
"Does that line work on your wife?" She asked. Not sure why she wanted to know, maybe so she could prove that he wasn't available and she could stop the fantasy in her brain from occurring.
"Wouldn't know I don't have a wife." He stated matter of factly.
"Your girlfriend then?" She knew she was teasing and playing with fire, but somewhere in the back of her brain she needed to know his answer.
"I don't have one of those either. I'm a bit too busy." He said as he turned and walked out of her office and down the hall.
Kathryn's jaw fell slack at the comment. It suddenly got hot in her office and she was dumbstruck. He just dropped a bomb of information in her lap and walked away like it was nothing. She knew he had a job to do but she still couldn't stop reeling from his announcement. Sure she had wanted to know, but the fact that he gave it to her without hesitation made her take pause and start to think that maybe there was something there and it wasn't just all in her head.
That night she went home and dreamed of him, her dream however wasn't at all like his was. In fact they were the complete opposite!
She dreamed instead of him coming up behind her in her office, quietly sneaking up and wrapping those warm broad arms around her tiny waist. Gently he brushed her long auburn curls from her neck and peppered kisses up marking a trail from her collarbone to her earlobe, all the while pulling her backside flush against his firm front. In her dream he was already hard and ready for her. Turning her neck she opened more for him ready and eager for all that he was doing to her. Turning she could feel her front pressed against his and stared at his brown eyes as leaned closer and devoured her mouth. She could feel him pull her to the wall and begin to show her just how strong he was from carrying packages all day as he lifted her up, hiking the skirt she wore up along with her. Being this close never felt so good.
Just as they began tearing clothes off of one another her alarm went off with a resounding boom. Growling she threw the offending object across the room. It was then she noticed the extra pillow pushed against her front. Her whole body ached with lust, want and desire for a man she hadn't even shaken a hand of yet. She moaned as she shifted position to get up, she could practically feel the kisses her dream had given her and they hadn't even been real! When she finally climbed from her bed and got ready for the day she put on the skirt she had worn in her dream, in all honesty she hadn't worn it in years and wasn't even sure it would still fit. Even if she didn't see Chakotay that day she would feel like she had just by being in that skirt.
The day dragged by, she went from meeting to meeting never once really having time to just pause. Finally some time after lunch she managed to drag herself back to her office. It was so much later in the day, she figured deliveries had already come and she had missed her chance at seeing him. Kathryn was so focused on what she was doing, she failed to see him walk in until he was right next to her desk.
"Hello there."
"Hello, I didn't expect to see you today." She stated as she swallowed hard at just the sight of him.
"Busy day today. How about you?"
"Same, ready to go home." She said as she stood up and handed the pad back to him.
"Me too" He paused as he took in her whole outfit. "You look nice, have you worn that before?"
"No, I haven't worn it in years actually."
"Odd I know I've seen it before. Must be from a dream. Anyway, have a great night!" He turned and walked away. Kathryn knew if she was going to say anything now was her chance.
"Actually it was."
"Was what?" He turned and asked quizzically.
"It's from a dream. I was wearing it last night in my dream."
"Was it a good dream?"
"Yes…..it had you in it." She said as she lowered her head to hide her embarrassment. She was not prepared for his reaction.
"I knew it! You do have a thing for me!"
"Well I'm not sure I'd call it a thing."
"What would you call it then?"
"A curiosity."
"Well then, I'll leave you and allow your curiosity to grow a bit more then." He said as he turned and tugged slightly on his ear.
Kathryn was flabbergasted, surely he wanted to know more, surely she had piqued his interests? Maybe not. He was probably just teasing and flirting, he probably did that with every receptionist in town for all she knew. The way he walked away just now just proved he didn't want her and the only person that she had been fooling was herself.
Sitting down in her chair she realized just what a fool she had been. Her mind had played tricks on her and now she was left to pick up the pieces of her wild imagination, go home and pray she never ran into him again. She had been so lost in thought since Chakotay had walked out of her office that she almost didn't recognize the sound of her phone ringing.
"Voyager Enterprises, Kathryn Janeway, how can I help you?"
"Well hello Kathryn, it's Chakotay."
A/N: If I didn't pause here, it would be a 40,000 word chapter. More coming soon, I hope.
