Summary: Detective Jake Peralta was given the weirdest case in his career when numerous victims were found mysteriously killed. He will soon realize that wizards exists in New York City.
"Wow, I wonder what could have caused this?" That is what Jake Peralta said to himself when he sees the crime scene. A detective from the 99th Precinct of the NYPD in Brooklyn, he was assigned as the lead investigator of this case where numerous victims were found mysteriously killed to death in different parts of Brooklyn.
In fact, it was the sixth body he has found. It was discovered at an alleyway of an apartment building by the city waste workers at 5:42am and they called 911 at 5:43am.
Detective Jake Peralta examines the crime scene carefully, looking for clues to determine what might have happened. He is accompanied by his partner, Detective Charles Boyle and their fellow colleague, Detective Rosa Diaz. His wife, Sergeant Amy Santiago is also at the scene, helping him and securing the crime scene.
"So, is there anyway to determine the cause of death?" Jake asked the coroner.
"I have no idea; this is the sixth body I have seen. It is similar to the others and he has been torn apart just like the others." The coroner said.
Detective Jake Peralta looked at the teared-up body as he began to wonder what caused it. He has seen these bodies already and he believes that this is similar to them. In fact, he believes in his crazy theory that a wild animal or an alligator may be responsible.
"Hey Charles, any luck finding out about our culprit?" Jake asked his partner, Detective Charles Boyle who is also his best friend.
"I don't know Jake, we still do not who this person responsible for this crime is. It is like all the others." Charles replied.
He was right. Jake realized that all the victims were killed by the same person who is not a wild animal or an alligator and it stills somewhat puzzles him to this day. In fact, Jake feels the frustration when he realizes that it is leading him to the same thing like the other ones: dead-ends.
He already checked with animal pet shops and he learned that they do not have an animal that does this to the victims and he already checked with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and it seems that there are no alligators that can do this.
"I can't believe that this has been happening all day, if it's not an alligator or a wild animal, who in the world does this murder anyway?!" Jake said angrily to himself and his wife Amy realizes that the case is taking a toll on him.
"Hey Jake, is this case bothering you still?" Amy asked Jake as she approaches him.
"Yeah Amy, this is still bothering me." Jake said, sighing as Amy comforted him by patting his back.
"Yo Jake, think I found something that will shed some light on this case." His other partner, Detective Rosa Diaz said as she pointed to a surveillance camera that is mounted on the wall.
"Looks like we are getting a lead on this case." Jake said.
"Hey Charles, see if you can get the owner of that apartment building to give us a copy of the footages?" Jake said to Charles.
"I'm on it!" Detective Charles Boyle replied and he immediately went to get the surveillance tapes from the apartment.
"Hey Rosa, can you find any witnesses that were at the scene and find out what they saw?" Jake said to Rosa.
"Okay, I'm on it." Detective Rosa Diaz replied and went with some uniformed officers to talk to any witnesses.
When they got back to the 99th Precinct, Detective Jake Peralta along with Detective Charles Boyle went to share what they have found to their commanding officer, Captain Raymond Holt and the supervisor of the 99th Precinct's Detective Squad, Sergeant Terry Jeffords.
Both Jake and Charles went into Captain Holt's office where Sergeant Jeffords is also at and shared with them what they have found out.
"So, as you know, the victim is found just like the others: torn to pieces." Detective Jake Peralta shared.
"And like the others, the coroner was unable to determine the cause of death." Sergeant Terry Jeffords then shared.
"So, if it's not a wild animal or an alligator, who killed the victims?" Captain Raymond Holt asks the three of them.
"We still don't know. But we found a surveillance camera on the same alleyway and it is at another apartment, Charles is scrubbing the footage to find out who killed our victims." Detective Jake Peralta said.
"But I also found the victim's wallet and just like the others, I am notifying his next of kin." Detective Charles Boyle said.
"Also, Rosa is still trying to find any witnesses that were at the crime scene and piece together what happened." Detective Jake Peralta said.
"Well in that case. Boyle, inform the next of kin about the victim and start scrubbing the surveillance footage while Sergeant Jeffords, notify the other precincts and tell them to double foot patrols around the crime scenes." Captain Holt said and both Terry and Charles left the office immediately.
Captain Holt soon sees that Detective Jake Peralta is looking very frustrated and he decides to talk to him.
"Peralta, is everything okay?" Captain Holt asks Jake, who puts his hands on his hips and breathes heavily.
"I'm fine captain." Jake replied, calming himself down. "It's just that, this case has been bothering me ever since you put me in charge. I thought that he was killed by some wild animal or alligator when I found out from various pet shops and the DEP that there is no animal or alligator that can do this."
"It must be something else?" Captain Holt asks.
"Yeah, it's just that…" Jake took a short breath before continuing. "Everywhere I look at this case, it always come to the same thing: dead-ends. And it really bothers me when I sleep or when I am solving another case."
"I just want to know who could have done this crime fast!" Detective Jake Peralta said, in a harsh tone.
"You know what Peralta, why don't you take some time off. That will distract you from this case." Captain Holt recommended.
"No thanks, Captain." Jake said, politely. "Now that we got a new lead for this case, we can know who is responsible."
"Okay then." Captain Holt said and Jake left the office and back to his desk.
Detective Jake Peralta sat down on his desk, putting his hands on his head, sighing before opening up the file on the case that he was assigned to on his computer.
"Hmm.. looks like someone is in a very terrible mood today?" Gina Linetti, the 99th Precinct's sardonic and egomaniacal civilian administrator and Holt's assistant said to Jake from her desk as he began to do some work on the case.
"Yes Gina, I am in kind of a terrible mood today." Detective Jake Peralta said.
"Is it because of your father having an affair with your friend's mom again?" Gina asked.
"No, it's because of this case that I am assigned to. It is just like the others and it really bothers me." Jake replied.
"Well, if you need any calming down tips. I will be happy to help." Gina said.
"Thanks, Gina." Detective Jake Peralta said and he got back to work while Charles has finished calling the next of kin and found something disturbing in the surveillance footage.
