Usagi had boarded a Jet plane that left Tokyo for Honolulu, Hawaii and once there
she would change planes to an American Airlines jet. This jet would take her to
Los Angeles where she would change planes again and the final Jet would take
her to Denver, Colorado which is known as the mile high city. Once the plane set
down in Denver, her mother's friend and her daughter awaited for Usagi's arrival.
Ikuko told Akari Kenner of what Usagi looked like and she could be spotted easily
in a crowd. Usagi wore a pink blouse and a matching skirt with pink dress shoes with
white socks. Akari's daughter was Kyoko who was born in the United States while Akari
originally was born in Japan. When Akari was young, she met her future husband while
he was stationed in Japan and his name was Kyle Kenner. Then after Kyle and Akari had
married, they moved to Colorado where their daughter Kyoko was born. However, years
later still in the service, Kyle died in the line of duty. Now it was just Akari and her daughter.
Usagi got her carry on baggage which was a small suitcase and she also had her purse.
Her purse matched her outfit. Usagi walked out of the terminal and looked for Akari and her
daughter. Ikuko had explained to Usagi what Akari looked like and how to spot her and it
didn't take Usagi that long to notice Akari and Usagi walked up to Akari and Usagi spoke.
"You must be Akari-San, yes?"
Usagi asked if she went up to the right person and Akari smiled back and spoke.
"Yes, it is. You fit the description of what your mother had told me about your appearance."
Akari answered and explained that Ikuko Usagi's mother had given a good detailed description
of what Usagi looked like. Akari was around the age of Usagi's mother. Akari had short black hair
that was shoulder length. Her daughter Kyoko had brown hair that went down to the middle of her
back and her hair was in two braids. Kyoko always liked her hair braided and that was the hairstyle
she chose for herself. Akari wore a blue tee-shirt and blue jeans with blue tennis shoes. her daughter
kyoko wore a green blouse and a matching skirt with white socks and green dress shoes. Kyoko
was fairly pretty for a teenage girl and in her hometown, she was very popular.
"Where do you live here in Denver?"
Usagi asked Akari about where they lived.
"Oh no, Denver is a very large city. We live in a small town called Lamar. It's located in the southeast
corner of the state of Colorado. It will take us about four hour drive to get there. Since it's still light
outside, we should get to Lamar about dark."
Akari explained that it would take at least four hours by car to get to Lamar from Denver.
"You can see all the pretty sights along the way."
Kyoko quickly added.
"Pretty sights?"
Usagi asked about what Kyoko meant about the pretty sights.
"Well there's really nothing but flat land from Denver to Lamar. However, there will be hills at first but
it will be flat land by the time we get to Lamar. However, the United States is very vast and has many diverse
cultures within its own borders."
Kyoko explained that the drive will start with hills but would flatten out once they had left the Denver Area.
Kyoko explained that the United States was a melting pot of different cultures within its borders. Usagi
was amazed just how large the United States was.
Usagi went to the baggage claim and picked up her other two suitcases and the trio of females left the
airport for the garage with Akari's car was parked. It was a Ford Taurus. The car was white model and the
model was 1991. It had good mileage for the car and Akari kept up on the car so it would run good. It took
about thirty minutes to get out of the Denver area and head south towards Lamar. The highway was a U.S.
Route Highway which was a rural road and not an Interstate Freeway. Usagi didn't mind the drive. She
was amazed on how vast and beautiful the state of Colorado was.
"If you think this state is great, you should see the Grand Canyon."
Kyoko told Usagi if she thought Colorado was great, the Grand Canyon was a better sight to see.
"Grand Canyon, what's that?"
Usagi asked about being curious about the Grand Canyon.
"The Grand Canyon is a massive deep canyon in north western Arizona. The canyon is so vast and
so deep it is actually breathtaking."
Akari explained that the Grand Canyon was very massive and very deep. Akari, Kyoko, and Usagi
kept talking about the different parts of the United States to help pass the time of driving. Kyoko
explained that Hawaii used to be an independent country along with Texas. Akari stopped once
in a small town half way so they get out and stretch a little.
After getting some refreshments, the trio of females were back on the road and Usagi explained
why she came to America in the first place. She explained that Mamoru had broken up with her
without giving any real reason and she was there to test him to see if he really loved her enough
for him to try and find her.
"I doubt Mamoru knows I am here in the United States, however he will find out eventually."
Usagi stated that she thought at the present time, Mamoru may not have realized that Usagi
left Japan and it would take him awhile for him to figure it out that Usagi was in America.
"That's not good for him to break up with you for no reason at all.."
Kyoko added about Mamoru breaking up with Usagi and that was something Kyoko didn't
like at all.
"I also left to clear my mind and try to focus what's really important... my education. However,
me being from Japan, I know I am going to stand out in a crowd. I have a favor to ask of you
Kyoko."
Usagi explained that she also left Tokyo to help clear her mind and focus on her education
at least for awhile and asked Kyoko for a favor.
"Sure, what kind of favor Usagi?"
Kyoko asked Usagi of the favor that she had in mind.
"Could you help Americanize me so I would look more American?"
Usagi asked Kyoko about helping Usagi blend in Lamar like being one of the locals.
"That should be too hard and I think it would be fun not only for you but also for me."
Kyoko liked the idea about Americanizing Usagi. Finally after four hours, the trio of females
arrived at their destination, the Kenner Household which was on a side street in downtown
Lamar. It was a large white house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms and with
a living room and also a game room. Kyoko also would help Usagi in helping her blend into
her new surroundings.
