Early the next morning Mulder groaned as he heard someone knocking on their front door. He was hoping he could finally sleep in for once, but that didn't seem likely at that moment. The older man slowly climbed out of bed, trying not to wake his family before heading downstairs.
"Can I help you?" Mulder asked in a disgruntled tone as he opened the door. Standing in front of him was a younger male holding some cleaning products. Mulder looked around and took note of one other person sitting in a late 1990s Ford Taurus. The younger male quickly started to speak.
"Hey I'm Matthew, and I was wondering if you would be interested in a demo of my company's cleaning products. I know it's early but I would really appreciate your time. I'm sorry I woke you up," Matthew spewed off. Mulder quickly cut the man off and yawned.
"My wife and daughter are still sleeping. Can you come back later? Maybe early afternoon before 2pm? My wife may be interested," Mulder grumbled, wanting the salesman to leave him alone. Matthew quickly smiled and nodded.
"Absolutely. I'll be back, and if it's okay, my friend Robert, would like to join us," Matthew spoke as he motioned towards the strange car that was sitting in Mulder's driveway. Mulder nodded at the young man. Matthew grinned up at Mulder.
"Thank you so much for your time sir. See you this afternoon," Matthew spoke before he stepped off the porch and walked back to the car. Mulder nodded and watched the strange car pull out of his driveway, and drive away before walking back inside. The older man stretched and yawned before heading back upstairs to go to bed.
"Mmm, Mulder, is that you?" Scully mumbled as she felt her husband climb back into bed. Mulder smiled and cuddled up close to his wife. The woman felt her husband's presence and tried to get as close to him as she could.
"Where did you go hun," Scully mumbled into her husband's shoulder. Mulder sighed as he rubbed his wife's back. The woman looked up at her husband.
"Some salesmen stopped by wanting to do a demonstration. I told them to come back later," Mulder grumbled, realizing what he committed himself to doing that afternoon. Scully gave her husband a look since Mulder didn't like visitors.
"Is that who I heard knocking?" Scully started to question. Mulder nodded.
"I wanted to sleep in. Obviously the knocking woke me up, but thankfully Storm seems to still be asleep. You know how she is when she wakes up before she is ready too," Mulder gave his wife a small smile. Scully nodded, agreeing with her husband.
"Alright Mulder. We'll deal with the salesmen this afternoon. Let's try to get more sleep before Storm wakes up," Scully smiled as she gently kissed her husband. Mulder kissed his wife back and smiled before holding her close and dozing off.
A couple hours later Storm was sitting on the kitchen floor while her parents made a late breakfast. The toddler was mumbling away as she held a rubber duck. Storm's stuffed fox was sitting on the floor near the toddler. Soon Mulder stepped away from the stove and picked his daughter up.
"Are you hungry, Storm?" Mulder asked happily as he set his daughter in her high chair. Storm looked up at her father and mumbled. The older man took the rubber duck, and picked up the stuffed fox before setting them on a nearby counter. Storm pointed at her toys and whined.
"Here you go sweetheart," Scully spoke softly as she set a plate of scrambled eggs and a slice of toast, cut up into tiny pieces, in front of her daughter. Storm made some excited noises as she started to eat the toast. Mulder grinned as he set down a sippy cup of milk on the tray as well.
"Thanks handsome," Scully smiled as she kissed her husband. Mulder grinned as he returned his wife's kisses. Storm looked up at her parents and watched them happily. Soon Mulder pulled away to retrieve some food for his wife and himself.
"Is it good Stormy?" Scully smiled at her daughter as she sat next to her at the table. The toddler mumbled happily as she munched on her eggs. Mulder set a plate in front of his wife and kissed her. Scully nuzzled her husband before he went to grab himself a plate.
"Egg," Storm mumbled to herself happily as she ate her breakfast. Mulder sat down next to his wife and handed her a cup of coffee before he started to eat. Scully smiled at her husband. The older man grinned at his wife happily.
Soon after breakfast Storm was sitting in front of the TV watching cartoons while Scully cleaned up breakfast. Mulder was in his office working on one of his hobbies since his wife had the day off from work. The toddler mumbled happily as she watched her movie. Scully looked over at her child and smiled.
"Hey Scully. Look at this newspaper article I found. Unknown creature terrorizing residents in a small town in South Dakota," Mulder spoke quickly as he walked down the stairs. Scully sighed and dried her hands before turning around to look at her husband. The older man quickly stepped past his daughter and walked over to his wife. Storm looked up at her parents and mumbled.
"Yeah, here," Mulder spoke with an excited tone to his voice as he handed Scully the newspaper, "They're calling it the Cavour Monster." Scully looked up at her husband. Mulder had an excited grin on his face. The woman sighed and read the paper.
"It's probably a bear or something Mulder. People leave their trash out, it's an easy meal for an animal like that to acquire," Scully tried to explain her reasoning. Mulder huffed as he took back the newspaper. Scully looked at her husband, waiting for an eccentric reply.
"Scully, there are a few Native American reservations out there. It's probably a skinwalker. I know they're mostly in the southwest United States, but there have been sightings and stories about skinwalkers being seen in South Dakota," Mulder explained. The older woman gave her husband a look he knew all too well.
"Come on Scully. Don't give me that look. Think about it," Mulder spoke with an unhappy tone to his voice. Scully shook her head and held her husband close to her before kissing him. Mulder started to pout.
"Go do some more research, then tell me more about it. I wanna try to spend some time with our baby right now. Is that okay?" Scully smiled at her husband. She knew Mulder's weakness, was ufos, and usually anything of the paranormal or unknown, but she also knew their daughter was his other big weakness. Mulder looked at his wife and smiled.
"Alright, but you better be interested when we talk later," Mulder pouted again. Scully kissed her husband deeply. Mulder snuggled with his wife.
"Fine. Sure. Whatever," Scully smiled at her husband. Mulder laughed and pulled away from his wife. As he walked away he almost tripped over his daughter who got off the floor to wander over to her parents. Storm mumbled unhappily as Mulder tripped.
"Hey you, what do you need," Mulder spoke softly. Storm reached up to her father wanting to be held by one of her parents. The man smiled down at his daughter. Scully walked over to her family and picked her daughter up. Storm mumbled as she held onto her mother tightly. Mulder grinned at his wife and headed back upstairs.
"Dada," Storm mumbled as her father left the living room. Scully smiled as she sat down on the recliner with her daughter. The toddler made a bunch of happy noises as she grabbed onto her mother's nose and ears. The woman smiled at her daughter.
"I love you Stormy," Scully spoke softly to her daughter. Storm pointed at the TV and squeaked. Scully looked over at the TV and watched it. Mulder put on a Disney movie for their daughter. The toddler hugged her mother looking for attention.
"Mama," Storm whined at her mother. Scully turned and held her daughter close to her. The toddler pulled at her mother's shirt as she was being held. The older woman smiled at her child.
"Mama, blue," Storm mumbled as she pointed at Scully's shirt. The older woman grinned at her child proudly. Scully was wearing a light blue blouse, and she knew her husband was doing his best to teach their daughter her colors, numbers, and letters while she was at work.
"Yes, Storm! Mama's shirt is blue. Good job sweetheart!" Scully praised her daughter happily. Storm mumbled happily as she played with the buttons on Scully's shirt. The woman kissed her daughter and talked to her as Storm tried to play.
"Mama, love too," Storm mumbled a bit later into playing. Scully grinned at her daughter. Her daughter rarely spoke more than a couple words. It was even more rare for Storm to express that she loved her parents. Scully snuggled with her daughter more as Storm grabbed onto her mother, eager for the attention. Soon someone knocking on the door interrupted the mother and her daughter.
Upstairs, when Mulder heard the knocking he groaned. The man sat back in his chair before shutting the book he was reading, and getting up to head downstairs. Downstairs Scully slowly got off the recliner, and stood up. Storm reached up for her mother crying for attention. Scully picked up her daughter and held her close.
"Ugh I forgot about them," Mulder grumbled as he headed to the front door. Storm saw her father and whined at him. Scully shushed her daughter and held her close as she followed her husband. Storm smacked her mother unhappily.
"Hey we don't do that," Scully set her daughter down and scolded her. Mulder watched his wife before going to answer the door. Storm whined at her mother unhappily. Scully watched her daughter.
"We have to be good Storm. We have guests right now. Do you understand," Scully asked her daughter firmly. Storm nodded and whined as she rubbed her eyes. The woman picked her daughter up and held her close as she went to meet up with her husband.
"Oh hello. Are you Dana? Fox was saying he had a wife and daughter. My name is Matthew and this is Robert," Matthew smiled at Scully. Scully returned the smile as her husband welcomed them into the house. Storm pulled on her mother's shirt. The group followed Mulder into a sitting room.
"Um, is this room okay?" Mulder asked the two salesmen. Matthew nodded happily as he knelt down and opened his bag. Storm pointed at the bag and mumbled. Scully kissed her daughter happily while Storm was trying to stay calm. Mulder looked over at his wife and smiled.
Mulder took his daughter from his wife and held her close as he sat down on one of the chairs in the room. Scully sat in the other chair next to her husband and held his hand. Mulder looked over and grinned at his wife as the salesmen started their pitch.
"Hey, um. I'm sorry to interrupt, but may I use your restroom?" Robert asked softly. Scully nodded as she stood up. She walked Robert to the bathroom and returned to her husband. Storm whined as she looked up at her mother. Mulder shushed his daughter and kissed her gently. About fifteen minutes later, Robert returned back to the sitting room.
"Alright, does anything interest you guys today?" Matthew asked with a grin. Scully looked over at her husband. Mulder was clenching his jaw slightly, but trying to hide it. Storm was grabbing onto Mulder's wedding ring and mumbling.
"Um. I'll have to talk it over with my wife before we make any decisions," Mulder spoke firmly. Matthew nodded and started to pack his stuff away. Storm looked up at her father and smiled. Scully stood up and took her daughter from her husband. The toddler whined and hugged onto her mother.
"That is perfectly fine. Here is my business card," Matthew smiled as he handed Mulder a card. Mulder nodded as he crossed his arms and watched the men pack their stuff up. Storm yawned and snuggled her mother. Scully smiled and kissed her daughter, knowing it was close to her nap time. Mulder watched his wife for a moment before walking the salesmen back out to their car.
"Are you tired sweetheart? Do you want to lay in your bed and cuddle?" Scully spoke softly to her daughter. Storm nodded as she looked around for her father. The woman walked back into the kitchen, picked up Storm's stuffed fox, then headed upstairs to her daughter's room.
As Scully entered the bedroom, she walked over to her daughter's changing table, and laid her down on it. Storm mumbled as she let Scully change her diaper. The older woman smiled at her daughter, happy Storm wasn't trying to fuss. As soon as Scully was done changing her daughter, she picked Storm up and went to lay her down in bed.
"Mama cuddle," Storm whined as Scully placed a blanket over her. As Scully was getting ready to lay with her daughter, Mulder walked into the bedroom. Scully looked over at her husband.
"Hey hun. You wanna go lay down for a nap as well," Scully winked at her husband. Mulder grinned at his wife and nodded. Storm mumbled as she saw her father. The older man helped tuck his daughter in as his wife cuddled their daughter. Storm yawned as she listened to her mother's breathing. Soon the toddler was fast asleep.
"Mmm, after our nap, maybe I can help you with your research, Mulder. Just like old times," Scully grinned as she carefully climbed out of bed. Mulder nodded as he eagerly gave his wife a kiss before they headed back to their bedroom for a nap.
Later that afternoon Storm was wandering around the house whining for her parents. The toddler hugged her fox close as she looked around the old house. The toddler wandered into the kitchen and looked around for her parents.
"Mama. Dada," Storm mumbled unhappily as she waddled to the door the family used to enter and leave the house. When the toddler approached the door she reached up and turned the handle. Storm cried when the door wouldn't open due to it being deadbolted shut. The toddler started to panic not knowing where her parents were.
"Mama," Storm started to cry very loudly, trying to get someone, anyones attention. She slowly waddled back to the bottom of the stairs and sat there crying. Soon Scully quickly walked downstairs. When Storm saw her mother she started to freak out.
"Hey, hey. I'm right here. Shh, I'm right here," Scully spoke softly as she picked up her daughter and held her close. Storm pushed and hit her mother, upset with her for not coming to get her sooner. Scully gave her daughter a look, set her on the floor, and scolded her.
"We do not hit or push Stormy," Scully scolded. Storm cried and was throwing a fit. Mulder quickly walked down to the stairs to see what all the commotion was about. The toddler saw her father and reached up for him, still crying.
"Hey Storm. Why are you upset," Mulder spoke softly as he sat on the floor next to his wife. Storm sat there and cried as she looked up at her parents. Scully sat on the floor next to her husband, picked her daughter up, and held her close. Mulder smiled as he brushed his daughter's hair.
"Hey, you're okay. We're right here sweetheart," Scully smiled as she cuddled her daughter. Mulder reached out and wiped his daughter's eyes. Storm quickly grabbed onto her father's hand and held it. The older man smiled at his daughter.
"Dada, love," Storm mumbled. Mulder looked at his daughter and grinned. Scully smiled at her husband. The older man reached out, and gently took his daughter from his wife. Storm quickly cuddled up to her father and mumbled. Mulder hugged his daughter close.
Storm mumbled happily as she pulled at her father's gray tshirt. Mulder cuddled with his daughter as his wife watched. Usually when Scully was home for the weekend, Storm preferred to be with her mother, and usually ignored her father. Scully smiled as she watched her husband, proud of the man he had become when he became a father.
After about thirty minutes Storm finally calmed down enough to try to climb off her father's lap. Mulder smiled as he helped his daughter stand up. The toddler quickly started to babble and become impatient wanting her father to follow her. Mulder slowly got off the floor and stood up. Storm quickly grabbed onto her father's hand and pulled it trying to lead him somewhere. Scully smiled as she watched her husband follow their daughter.
Storm mumbled as she walked to the entryway, and pulled on her father's old trench coat. Mulder smiled as he walked up behind her daughter. Storm whined as she looked up at her father. Scully smiled as she walked into the entryway to join her family. When the toddler saw her mother, she waddled to where Scully kept her car keys, and pointed to them. Mulder looked at his wife and gave her a small smile.
"Stormy, can you use your words? What do you want?" Scully spoke softly. Storm mumbled as she looked up at her parents. The woman knew Storm wanted to get out of the house, but was waiting for her to use her words to tell her parents what she wanted. The toddler looked up at her mother and pointed at the door.
"Mama, play," Storm mumbled. Scully smiled at her husband. Mulder knelt down next to his daughter.
"Do you wanna play outside Stormy?" Mulder asked with a smile. Storm quickly nodded as she looked up at her mother. The older man smiled at his wife as he stood up, then put on his coat and shoes. Scully quickly put a coat and shoes on her daughter before putting on her coat and shoes herself. Mulder held his daughter's hand tightly as the family walked outside together.
