1921- Boston, Massachusetts

Since the dawn of time, in every life I was always warned to not be out after dark and for good reason. I knew what the monsters that hid in the shadows were capable of. I had been one of their unfortunate victims more than once as far back as I could remember.

Though over the past year having to walk home in the dark after having to work a closing shift at the Filene's didn't bother me as much. In fact it slowly became my favorite part of the day but that was mostly due to who accompanied me every night without fail.

As I walked out of the store bidding my coworkers a good night I saw him standing in the exact same spot as always with perfect posture and always dressed in a suit. And greeting me with a warm smile.

Except tonight there was no smile, no warmth in his eyes and he was tense. Though if you didn't know him too well you wouldn't know it.

"Sarah." He greeted trying to smile but it didn't reach his eyes.

"Something's wrong." I said immediately. He didn't try to deny it. Instead he put an arm around me and pressed a kiss to my forehead holding me for a moment. "Elijah?"

"If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?" He asked. I looked at him confused.

"It would depend." I said.

"On what?" He asked.

"Would you be there with me?" I asked.

"I'd follow you to the ends of the earth." Elijah said so seriously it almost sounded like a promise and when Elijah Mikaelson made you a promise he always kept it.

"Chicago." I answered without thinking. "I don't know why, I just have this feeling that it would be a really good place to be right now."

"Then that's where we'll go. Tonight." He said and I thought he was joking but the grim look on his face said he was completely serious.

"You're serious." I said.

"If we leave now we can be there by tomorrow morning." Elijah offered and that's when it all made sense.

"It happened. It finally happened." I said feeling the dread I had felt since the day I drew that premonition magnify and could barely hold the tears back. "He's here."

"Sarah." Elijah said. "He won't come near you. I will keep you safe. I swear it."

"You can't promise that Elijah. You know that." I said.

"I can and I will." He said as the tears started streaming from my eyes. "Nothing will happen to you. We'll leave right now and disappear somewhere he can't find us."

"It always happens. No matter what." I said wishing more than anything I could believe him. That for once it wouldn't happen because for the first time in all of my life times I found love and happiness and I didn't want to lose it. I didn't want to be alone again.

"Not this time. Not today." He said cupping my face gently before kissing me. I kissed him back knowing this might be the last time I get a chance to do so. "Let's go."

He took my hand before picking me up and running off to where he already had a car waiting. He even had a few things already packed up meaning he already knew what my answer would be.

We were outside of the city, taking one of the backroads to avoid being seen. It was quiet while Elijah drove and I just looked through the drawings I had made during my last vision episode. The dead bodies and the blonde haireg man that had killed them holding a stake. One of Elijah and I dancing at a party we had gone to a few nights ago with the same man looking at us from the shadows. And lastly the same man standing in the middle of a dark road with only a mile marker 48. I looked out the window and saw the mile marker we had just passed was 47.

"Elijah we need to stop now." I said.

"Sarah?" He said confused.

"He's at mile marker 48 and we just passed 47." I said and just as he looked up he saw the car's headlights fall on the same man I had drawn.

"No." He said.

"Come out and face me boy." He said.

"Sarah you need to do exactly as I say." Elijah said holding my hand.

"It's him isn't it. Mikael?" I asked.

"It is." He said he lifted my hand and kissed it. "Just do as I say."

"I love you." I said knowing it was probably going to be the last time I said it.

"And I you." He said letting me go as he got out of the car. He spoke with his father and I knew it wasn't going well when they started fighting and Elijah shouted at me to run. I did it without a second thought.

I ran into the woods as fast as I could not stopping even as I stumbled over a log and fell into a muddy puddle I kept going until without realizing it Mikael appeared in front of me and ran a sword through me. Who used a sword anymore?

"No!" Elijah shouted.

"You should have listened boy. The only reason you live to see another day is because I'm saving the stake for that abomination you call a brother." With that he pulled the sword out and let me fall. Elijah caught me before I hit the ground.

"Sarah.." he started before he bit into his wrist to try and give me blood.

"No." I said choked out. "It's too late."

"Please." He said.

"I don't want to die." I said finally saying it out loud. "but I'll come back. I just don't want to be alone again."

"I'm sorry." He cried.

"I'm sorry too." I cried. "It's not goodbye Elijah. We'll meet again."

"Mikael will never stop." Elijah said.

"He won't, which is why you have to go to your brother. He's going to need you." I said as everything started going cold.

"This is all my fault." He said.

"My death is not your fault. It was always going to happen but you gave me something I never had before. For the first time in all my lives I was loved and I was happy. You made me happy Elijah Mikaelson. Thank you." I said.

"I love you Sarah which is why I need you to forgive me for what I am about to do." He said looking me in the eyes and started to compel me. "You will not remember this life or any of your lives that came before. You will live a rich, full, and normal life unburdened by your previous lives because you deserve that and more. And if we should ever meet again it shall be as strangers."

With that Elijah held her showing her some of the happiest moments they had shared together until she was gone.
