Chapter 9: Careful, Su, your self-hatred is showing.

Susan always wondered at her siblings' resilience; Peter was always stubborn, Lucy forever steadfast, and maybe Edmund was once more like her, but betrayal and sacrifice had snapped off his brittle edges and he will now refuse to stay down.

When she is told "you cannot return" she instead hears "you cannot be loved"; all she can do is take a shuddering breath and nod. What else can she do?

She is Susan the Gentle; she knows she is not made of sterner stuff.
