Chapter 37: Susan reads of the legend of Medea and Understands

Sometimes Susan looks at Lucy and can't decide if she wants to pull her close and cradle her from the dangers in the world or to just fucking throttle her. Lucy is still so young, but she has never let fear hold her back, has never had to be the one who has to make sure no one is left behind or left out. Lucy is a ray of sunshine who scatters light on the ugliest parts of Susan's doubts and still has the audacity to call her the loveliest.

Lucy was never the boring one, was never the one diminished to something as Gentle or just a pretty face. Lucy was bold and unspeakably kind and had the unshakable faith of a martyr.

Susan loves Lucy with the violence of motherhood and it scares her.
