You could call Mitchum Huntzberger many things- narcissistic, jackass, brilliant- but no one could call him a fool. He took a sip of his scotch as he sat back in his chair- Nancy, his assistant had sent him a link to a rather salacious interview. He was told that this up and coming writer would be perfect for their new publishing project. They needed a writer with heart but that still cut through the crap- told it how it was.

So that is how he found himself completely bewildered watching as his son's ex-girlfriend bared her soul to Robin Roberts. He had always known that she would amount to more than a mere journalist. Truth be told, when he said she didn't have "it" he didn't mean talent or drive- he wasn't trying to sabotage her dream. Realistically he knew that she was a homebody. How many times had he called Logan's apartment only to have her answer saying that they were having a quiet night in and that Logan would call him back in the morning.

She wasn't meant to live out of suitcases, she wasn't meant to have loved ones worried about the destination her editor had sent her to. She was movie nights and family time- something a foreign correspondent barely had time for. If Mitchum was really being honest he was putting his son first too- he knew Logan would want that kind of family atmosphere that he had missed growing up. He would want to be there for birthday parties and recitals. This was all such a foreign concept for him, but he knew that if Rory was sent to Syria on assignment and Logan was stuck at the office they would grow apart.

Rory brought out the best in his son, Logan truly worked hard to be good enough for her. She may not have understood her influence at the time but from the second she walked into his son's life the world tilted a bit in Mitchum's favor. The arguments were fewer and farther apart. The only time he had missed a board meeting had been if Rory was sick or after his God forsaken trip to Costa Rica. Idiot.

Mitchum leaned forward in his chair and flinched when he heard Roberts mention the ill-fated internship he had prepared for Rory to drag his name through the mud. He was pleasantly surprised when she accepted his recommendation, it seemed the girl had grown up. Throughout the interview he jotted down notes, trying to find anything he could use to sway her to his company. He listened as she spoke of the proposal and her mother's meddling- how she had regretted her choice but had learned to live with the consequences. There he had it, which would lure her into HPG. It always did come back to Logan, and for Logan it always came back to Rory.

He reached for his phone and called for Nancy to come in. Nancy was a shrewd woman, maybe a few years younger than him. She had surprised Logan the first time he had come to the office- having suspected Mitchum to have a "young hot thing".

"Nancy, I need you to find the contact information for Lorelai Gilmore. She works at Truncheon books- but I don't want to call her work."

"Is this a ploy to poach an author?"

"It's a ploy to poach and possibly reunite her with Logan."

"Excuse me, I don't understand"

"Nancy, do you remember 3 years ago when Logan came in here asking for my mother's ring?"

"Yes, he was shaking like a leaf"

"She was the girl"

"She was the girl" He confirmed with a nod, "As you know Logan has been miserable since they broke up, Shira keeps trying to set him up with her friends' daughters but it hasn't come to anything. Rory was the only girl that kept him on his toes. If he hasn't seen this and hasn't already reached out we need to strike fast. We need her here and we need him in the same room. If it ends with them together and her working for us then I will have no complaints."

"And if she chooses him and not the job?"

"If she chooses Logan I will have time to try and get her here. Who knows maybe one day they can run HPG together."

Nancy lets out a snort and a laugh then looks up with wide eyes taking in his serious expression, "Oh you were serious!"

"Times are changing Nancy and as much as I hate to say it I don't think Logan will want the full responsibilities of running this company." He looked down at his desk and shuffled a stack of papers, "Just get me that information and I will see what I can do with it."

He watched as Nancy stood and left the room, turning his chair to face the Manhattan skyline he sighed. Images of blond haired and blue eyed children running through the halls filling his mind.
