Bronn I

For a house motto to make sense, it had to be from the heart. However for Bronn, he had been told his idea of a house motto for himself was not suitable. Bronn couldn't understand why Fucking, Fighting and Drinking was deemed unsuitable. Eventually it was reduced to The Pleasure is Mine which made sense, but just didn't sound as good in Bronn's mind. When he first got the post of Master of Coin, these were his most important tasks, other than finding revenue. The first easy one was using his money which he'd gotten as a result of becoming Lord Paramount of the Reach, was to open more brothels and inns in Kings Landing. From his perspective, the taxation on brothels and inns was always a high earner. However it wasn't enough. He discovered the Baratheons and Lannisters had bankrupted the country. Tyrion had written off the debt owed to house Lannister, but they were still in debt to the Iron Bank and Bronn's problem was he didn't know how to pay the money back. Not only that, but Kings Landing was almost destroyed by the dragons, and now needed rebuilding. Every time he complained, the King gave him something more, a wife, although he didn't particularly like her, but she had the right blood and was related to a Tyrell, which gave him some authority to claim their lands, homes and riches. They hadn't consummated their marriage as at the age of thirteen, she wasn't old enough in his eyes, but she was still his wife, which meant he'd gotten paid for his job. Not bad for a sellsword. Bronn had needed to pay people to help him with his new role, as he wasn't particularly bright when he came to sums, nor did he have much experience with money, considering he'd never had much of it in the first place, and what he did have had usually been spent in whorehouses and inns. The only thing Bronn had to offer the role was gift of the gab. He could sell ice to the whitewalkers or fire to dragons. This meant he was the one who had to go to Braavos with the idea of the Iron Bank invading the north.

The plan was a win-win for Westeros. Under the current plan, Sansa was Queen in the North and Kings Landing received no tax revenue from anyone north of the Neck. If they weren't repaying the Iron Bank, the money would have been plentiful. The King admitted he allowed Sansa to keep the North because the rest of the country couldn't help with the cost of rebuilding it after the whitewalkers attacked. Surprisingly, Sansa had mastered the rebuild far quicker than the rest of Westeros simply because she had no debt to the Iron Bank as independence had been claimed by Robb Stark before the crown amassed the ridiculous sums of debt, specifically created by Cersei Lannister. The North was now flourishing financially through their trade while Westeros was lagging behind. There was also the minor threat of invasions from abroad, specifically the Unsullied and the Dothraki if Jon Snow ever showed his face south of the wall again. The Ironborn were becoming an irritant once more, although that was nothing new, therefore these matters all needed to be dealt with. The solution had been to battle it out between them. Therefore Bronn had been drawn into a convoluted plan. He was to give the Iron Bank the option of sending in the Unsullied and Dothraki into the north, surround Winterfell to draw out Jon and thus they would be able to enact their revenge for the death of their Queen, to which Bran would not be able to claim responsibility. Once dead, Bran would not interfere with any war, in fact he would offer the support of the Iron Born as they also wanted Jon dead and were spoiling for a good battle. Should Winterfell fall, then it would revert back to the crown of Westeros, however all taxes from the north would be payable to the Iron Bank for the next twenty years, thus not only repaying the Iron Bank, but they would make a significant profit. Bran would allow the Iron Bank to put their own person in charge of Winterfell to ensure the money was repaid. Bran promised he would only send the Iron Born, but he would not wage war with the north and would quietly back them, although he would not be able to openly show support. It would be their choice of what to do with the current Queen in the North. This was why Bran had ensured Sansa was free to marry. Bronn was hoping to take her as his wife as that would mean their children would become Bran's heirs, unless Arya was to have children, which was unlikely.

There was one catch, this was a gamble, Westeros was allowing this to go ahead. It was a sure fire win as the north hadn't rebuilt a proper army, and the Freefolk wouldn't be of much use against the Dothraki, Unsullied and Ironborn combined. They were giving the bank the opportunity to take all of the profits from the north for twenty years, it was the opportunity to do so which was the payment. Should they fail, the debt would still be repaid as that was out of the hands of Westeros as they would also lose the opportunity of regaining the north in twenty years.

That was the idea, and this was when Bronn had come into his own regarding his role as Master of Coin. Bronn was good at talking, he was charming and a very good salesman. His lack of aristocratic background meant the Iron Bank had stupidly trusted him. He had managed to talk them into a gamble, which in fairness, Bronn thought was a sure fire win for the Iron Bank. Three moons later, the armies had been raised and were ready to go, except there was a problem which nobody, not even the all seeing King Bran had envisioned, Drogon had gone from Dragonstone in the search for Jon. By the time the army had been mobilised, it was too late. Jon and Drogon were bonded and their own small army had been rounded up, but with the addition of an enormous dragon.

The defeat of the Ironborn, the Dothraki and the Unsullied was in fact good news for Westeros, it meant they were no longer a threat and the country was no longer indebted to the Iron Bank. However the dragon had made life more difficult for Bran and Bronn. Firstly nobody had expected Sansa to marry her brother, although when Bronn discovered who Jon really was, he understood why it made sense. Bronn was just annoyed that the King had conveniently forgotten to mention who Jon really was. Thus Bronn was now left without the prospect of becoming the father to the heir. Bran suggested Bronn married Arya as she was returning from Essos, despite initially wanting to travel west. He had sent her on a mission and she was returning. Bran had suggested they arrange a marriage to Gendry Baratheon, if she accepted, allow her to marry and Gendry would conveniently die, leaving the Stormlands to Arya and any children she had with Bronn would be the heirs. If she declined her marriage to Gendry and ran, Bronn would have to find her and return her to the capital where she would be forced into the marriage. Bronn was sure he would be able to charm her with some fun swordplay and maybe even a song or two. However, after meeting her at Storms End, he became weary of Bran's suggestions. He could tell there was no way Arya would have ever agreed to this type of arrangement, Bronn had simply been too naïve to realise it. He also realised this was why Tyrion had been removed from all knowledge as he would have quickly counselled against any of the moves Bran had been making. Then there was the arrival of the Lady of Lys. A strange, yet beautiful woman who Bran had quickly decided to marry as she had told him she could not only give him children, but make him walk again, thus all arrangements Bran had offered Bronn were now pointless.

Bronn was still being paid handsomely for his services, and as a man with little conscience he would continue to serve the King loyally, but with the arrival of the Silverwings, it was making life more and more difficult. In fact, Bronn was beginning to feel as useless as Tyrion, and all of his ideas for the brothels were not being listened to. He was sick of the Silverwings following him around, all he wanted to do was earn a coin and enjoy life, which was why he had decided to speak with the King in the small council chamber for one last time.

"Your Grace." Bronn bowed his head. "My Queen ." he kissed her hand as they both sat next to Bran.

"How can I help?" Bran asked.

"Well Your Grace. As you are well aware, the last bloke to do my job ran his own businesses." Bronn started.

"As do you, you are Lord Paramount of the Reach." Bran said.

"That is as it maybe, but I'm not so good at that sort of stuff. I want to do something I can get me teeth into. Something I'll find interesting. If it doesn't interest me, I'm worried I'll fuck it up..." he looked at the Queen and quickly realised he'd spoken out of term and she was a woman who he sincerely feared. "Sorry Your Grace, My Queen for my inappropriate language, I wasn't born a nobleman."

"No need to worry." the Queen smiled. "I've heard worse. What is your proposal?" she asked.

"I want to go into the brothel business properly. I have money set aside and have seen a few places up for sale. I know I own two, but I want to own more. Six or seven in Kings Landing, maybe a couple in Oldtown, I'm sure the maesters need some entertainment other than books. I want to branch out." Bronn explained. "But..." he started.

"You can't do that and be Master of Coin at the same time." Bran finished.

Bronn nodded. "Something like that." he admitted.

"I think it is an excellent idea." the Queen shocked Bronn with her enthusiasm.

"It is?" Bronn asked.

"I would obviously like to have some of my own ladies in place, to ensure the proper treatment of the workers. I believe your predecessor wasn't a particularly good employer in that manner, however I'm sure you can do much better." the Queen purred.

"Of course." Bronn nodded with excitement.

"You will have to forfeit your position as Lord Paramount of the Reach." Bran told him. "Of course, you will be granted the title of Lord of Harrenhal instead." Bran suggested. "I doubt the people of the Reach would be happy with their Lord Paramount being a brothelkeeper." he said.

Bronn thought for a moment. It was nice to have the power of being Lord Paramount, but he hated the responsibility. He knew he could be one of the wealthiest men in Westeros if he could make a similar success of his business as Littlefinger had previously. He already owned two brothels and made a significant amount of money from those, so he knew this would completely change his life, but it would give him more time to devote to his pleasures, and hopefully get him away from the Silverwings. "What about my wife? We never consummated the marriage." he said.

"I will have the marriage annulled if that is your wish." Bran said.

Bronn considered it for a moment, he would be able to marry who he liked, which to him seemed like a wonderful proposition, although he knew there had to be a catch. "Other than employing some of your ladies, My Queen, what else would you like me to do?" he asked, although he knew what was coming.

"We want the children." the Queen smiled. "All of them. I'll even help you set the businesses up." she offered.

"You don't mind me resigning my post as Master of Coin?" Bronn frowned.

The King smiled and shook his head. "I need someone to help me with building a personal army. It will take years, but I believe you will be a great help in that way. Brothels are the best source for those children to be raised as soldiers for my future army and to serve me in other ways. You shall have your brothels. Come to me with the locations you have in mind and let me see what we can do to help." Bran said. "Is there anything else?" he asked.

"Er.. no Your Grace. It has been a pleasure workin for you." Bronn smiled.

"You can stay in the Red Keep until you have found more suitable accommodation." Bran told him.

Bronn got up and bowed. "Thank you Your Graces." he said, handing them his ball and set off to leave the room.

"There's no need for giving leaving the small council." Bran told him. "You might not be Master of Coin, instead you are now Master of Recruitment. Although you won't have to attend small council meetings, I will just require occasional updates." he said. "It shouldn't interfere with your daily work. Goodbye Lord Bronn." he added as Bronn left the room confused. He had a strange feeling the King and Queen's plan for the babes was not all what it seemed. Something seemed off and nefarious, but it was not his place to question. All he wanted to do was make coin and live a happy, comfortable life of fucking, fighting and drinking. Although his house motto stating The Pleasure is Mine, made far more sense. What was the cost of a few children having a better life? For the time being, the less he knew, the better.
