Beckett's Bad Day
An AU story set in an alternate season 8. Kate is having a bad day of paperwork and politics as a captain when she should be in California with Rick and the family. Then it gets worse.
A/N: This originally was going to be a one shot… but it got away from me a bit. So instead it will be a three chapter short. I hope that's okay.

CHAPTER ONE
Captain Kate Beckett-Castle set her phone on the corner of her desk as she dropped herself into her chair with an audible thump. She'd just returned from a second day of meetings down at 1PP. Even as a detective she never liked the paperwork that came with the job, but she'd gladly spend a day doing paperwork rather than attend those mostly unnecessary meetings.
She always came back from these meetings with a blinding headache, like someone shoved a spike between her eyes. Most of the information they covered were things that she already knew about, or could have just as easily been communicated via emails.
She liked being Captain of the 12th precinct, she did. She wasn't above liking being in control, and she loved being kept in the loop on all the cases being investigated and she was not above putting her two cents worth in whenever she felt it might help. But that wasn't the main responsibilities she had to deal with.
No, the majority of her normal day was filled with paperwork and politics. Both were not the reason she joined the NYPD in the first place. Sometimes she wondered why she took the promotion. She was happy as a lead detective. But, it was expected. Once you reached a certain level it was expected that you would follow the yellow brick road onward and upward.
She felt pride whenever 'her' precinct closed a big case, but the amount of paperwork that every success created somewhat blunted the high she used to feel with their successes.
She reached over and pulled the fistful of directives, memos, and other mostly useless communications she had been required to bring back with her. She set the pile in her in box and stared at it.
She could have been in sunny California with her husband, step daughter, and mother in law enjoying the sun, sand, and a very much missed hunk of manhood. Her family minus her dad, were all out in California. Castle had a few signings that Gina managed to schedule once she knew that Rick was going out there to talk with a producer about a Nikki Heat TV series. Since it was between semesters for Alexis and Martha had nothing going on, Rick thought they could double it up as a family vacation.
She originally planned to take the time off and go with them. She knew Alexis would visit her mother, and Martha would, well no one actually knew what Martha was going to do, nor did they want to. But those times when Rick was signing books, she could go to the beach and just lay back and enjoy the sun and the breeze off the ocean. And when Rick didn't have to sign books, well then the fun would really begin.
But, alas, suddenly 1PP decided that all Captains had to attend these mandatory meetings. That it was absolutely necessary that all Captains and department heads be there. Yeah, real important. They had to be there to discuss changes in vacation policy, seniority changes, and time in grade pay levels. All necessary items that had already been implemented by the Commissioner's board and the Captains were just there to rubber stamp it.
Sometimes she wondered how anything actually got done with the level of bureaucracy that choked the workings of a police department. Captains were the leaders of their individual precincts, but they seemed to spend most of their time pushing paper around and enforcing administrative regulations.
Becoming the Captain had seemed like a good idea at the time.

Rick Castle was smiling and shaking hands, and thanking the people at the book store for all their help with the signing. This particular book store in San Francisco was the last stop on his California tour.
Castle loved his fans, but he was glad that this had been the last signing he had to do. The Black Pawn representative had thanked Rick profusely for his appearance and had given him the plane tickets for the Castle clan's trip back to New York for tomorrow evening.
Since this had been a last minute arrangement, they had sprung for seats for Alexis and Martha also.
Alexis walked up to her dad and put her arm around him and leaned against his side. "So, you've survived another one, eh dad?"
Castle shrugged. "It was good. The people were friendly and courteous. The store fed me on my break. All in all it was okay." He turned and kissed her head. "Did you get a hold of your mother and tell her we'd be in Los Angeles tomorrow." Alexis nodded. "And did you make arrangements to get together for dinner or something?"
Alexis shook her head. "No, she's leaving tonight for a location shoot in New Jersey."
Castle turned to his daughter and frowned. "New Jersey?" He shook his head. "Somebody actually shoots in New Jersey?"
Alexis shrugged. "That's what she said."
The two of them walked along the sidewalk. "Well, maybe you can arrange to see her out there once we get home. It's not like it's a long way away." He suggested.
Alexis nodded her head. "I suggested that. She fumbled around claiming she didn't know anything about the shooting schedule yet, but she promised that once she did know she'd call me and we could make plans to meet."
Castle sighed. "She'll never call will she."
Alexis shook her head. "Not a chance."
Rick gave his daughter a hug. "I'm sorry, pumpkin."
Alexis stopped. "It's not really a big deal, dad. I don't ever let myself expect anything from her anymore. That way she can never disappoint me." She gave her father a glare. "And what did I tell you about calling me pumpkin in public."
Castle just grinned, as he grabbed his daughter's hand. "Come on, we have to get back to the hotel, and hope your Grams remembers where it is. We have to get dinner and," He smiled his Cheshire cat grin. "You won't believe what news I have for the two of you."
Alexis tilted her head. "What?"
Castle held up his finger. "Oh no, it will have to wait until dinner. It's a really cool surprise."
Alexis rolled her eyes. "I hate surprises."
Castle shook his head. "No you don't, you love surprises."
Alexis shook her head, her short hair tickling her cheeks. "No, that would be you who loves surprises. Neither Grams, me, or Kate like surprises."
Castle frowned. "How can you be my child if you don't like surprises?"
Alexis raised her brow. "How sure are you about that?"
Castle soft punched her in the arm as she laughed at him. "That was just mean."
Alexis continued laughing as they reached their hotel and went inside, hoping that Martha had found her way back.

Kate was still at her desk when the ring of her phone caused the phone to fall off the corner of her desk, where she'd left it, and land in the trash can just below. Frustrated, Kate got up and plucked her phone from the trash.
"What!"
A familiar voice answered. "Is this a bad time?"
Kate allowed the escape of a long sigh. "No, babe, I'm just in a bad mood."
"Really, the meetings must have been torture."
Kate snorted. "You have no idea. Hours were spent and for what? Ninety per cent of what they told us could have been communicated via memorandums or emails. There was no reason to have us all there other than the directors and commissioners needed to feel important."
"I'm sorry you had to go through all that. I missed you and wished you could have come with us."
Kate threaded some hair behind her ear. "Yeah, me too. How was the signing? Did all your groupie's swoon appropriately when they met you?" She giggled.
She could just imagine his expression. "Of course they did. How could they not when meeting their favorite author." He retorted.
Kate rolled her eyes even though she knew he couldn't see her. "You were my favorite author and I never swooned over you."
Rick chuckled. "Oh, I think I remember some instances of swooning."
"Those had nothing to do with your writing." She shot back. "I reserved my swooning for some of your other 'talents'."
She heard something that sounded like a head hitting a wall. "You can't say things like that when I can't touch you."
"Well, it would be pretty difficult to ravish you when you are 2000 miles away."
"I know." He sounded contrite. "I just wish you were here with me."
She sighed. "Believe me, so do I." She fussed with her hair again. "So when are you coming home to your sex starved wife."
She heard what sounded like a fumble of his phone. "Ah, not until tomorrow night. We fly out at six–twenty local time."
Kate frowned. "Why so late? I thought today was your last signing?"
"It was, but a guy I know came through for me. That's why I'm calling now."
Kate wasn't sure she liked the sound of this. Her eyes squinted as a reflex. "Came through with what?"
Suddenly he was like a little kid. "You won't believe it! I scored three tickets on the Silver Streamer."
Kate stared up at the ceiling. "And what, pray tell, is the silver streamer?"
His voice was excited. "What do you know about maglev trains?"
Kate closed her eyes. "Probably just as much as you do, which is pretty much nothing other than it refers to magnetic levitation. As I understand it, there's a few running in China, and Japan."
She could almost hear his head nod. "Yeah, and two lines in Korea. It's the future of train travel." He took a pause to breathe. "Apparently Alan Dusk, one of the Silicon Valley billionaires, has funded the building of a maglev train line along the coast from San Francisco to Los Angeles. It's really a big deal. There's a special maiden run taking off tomorrow morning. Lots of important and famous people are going to be on this initial trip from here down to LA. Big shot politicians, movie stars, and other important high profile folks will be on that train for the inaugural run." She heard Castle voice become really excited. "It's said that it can reach speeds well over 200 mph. isn't that cool!"
Kate had to bite on her lip. "Is it safe?"
Rick was still all hyped up. "It's one of the safest ways to travel. There are no moving parts in its propulsion. It's all about the superconducting magnetic levitation system."
Kate frowned. "Which is what exactly?"
Rick chuckled. "I have no idea, but I looked up a couple YouTube videos on it, and it looked really neat. It's fast, frictionless, and quiet. About the only sound you hear is the wind blowing by.
"So how did you get tickets?"
"Well, you know me. I always know a guy."
"So how come you didn't tell me about this before you left. I would have liked to ride this miracle of modern transportation."
She heard his voice lose some of its joy. "I really would love to have had you out here with us, but when Black Pawn sent me out here, I hadn't been able to track down any possible seats."
Kate nodded her head. "Sure, that's what you say now."
"No really!" His voice got higher. "I only found out that my friend could score me some tickets this evening. He's dropping them off at the hotel in a couple of hours." She heard him shuffle his feet. "I really wish you were here. It's going to be an incredible ride."
"That makes me feel much better."
"Kaaate, you know I rather be with you than anything else."
She couldn't hold it any longer. She chuckled. "I know, babe. I'm just teasing you. It was my fault that I'm not there with you. Once again I let my dedication to my job interfere with my family life. Sometimes I wonder if I did the right thing taking on the captaincy."
"But you are such a terrific captain." She could literally hear him smirk. "Of course, you could always turn to politics and become the Senator you are destined to be."
"Yeah, right." She glared at her phone. "Just make sure to let me know when your plane is supposed to land."
"I'll text you."
"And… don't do anything stupid on that train. I wouldn't want your mother and daughter to watch you fall off the damn thing as it sped along the cliffs next to the ocean."
His voice went soft. "And what about you? Wouldn't you miss me if I fell off the train...? Kate? Are you still there?"
She started laughing. "Oh course I'm still here. And the answer is yes. I would miss you. The bed is too big and cold if I don't have my human foot warmer with me at night."
Castle chuckled. "Well, your cold feet will only have to wear those heavy socks one more night. Tomorrow night, your foot warmer will be back."
"Promise?"
"I promise. If I'm not there tomorrow you can sue the Silver Streamer."
"Not funny, Rick."
He chuckled again. "Goodnight my love. I'll call you from the airport tomorrow and give you our touchdown in New York. And then we'll figure out how to keep those frozen tootsies warm.'
Kate pouted into the phone. "You'd better. I'm don't think I can take more than one more night of cold feet."
Kate thumbed off her phone and looked at the stack of paper sitting in her in box. Most of it needed filing away in the proper file cabinets, but nothing was really important time wise. She glanced at her father's watch which still adorned her wrist. It was late enough that there was no compelling reason why she should stay other than she'd be going home to an empty loft.
She stuck her tongue out at her inbox and stood up and grabbed her bag and blazer, which she draped over her arm. She was going home. And when she got there she was going to raid the fridge and eat anything and everything she could find. Then she would pull down a bottle of her favorite red and have two, maybe three glasses while she read at least one chapter in the book she was currently reading.
After all that excitement, she was then going to get undressed, find herself a pair of big fluffy socks in Rick's sock drawer and get a full night's sleep.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Rick Castle was so pumped for the big deal Super Streamer ride that he was up before the sun and running around gathering his clothes, stuffing them in his suitcase, and was knocking on the door of the two bedroom suite that he'd booked for his ladies.
A not so ready for departure, Alexis, answered the door in a haphazardly thrown on robe, and eyes that weren't completely open yet.
"Dad! What are you doing here?" She glanced over at a full-sized grandfather clock against the wall next to the door. "It's not even five a.m. yet."
He was buzzing like a kid after a visit to Willy Wonka's Factory. "I just couldn't sleep anymore. We should get going, we don't want to be late for the departure."
Alexis rolled her eyes and punched her father in the chest. "The train doesn't leave until 10 a.m. and the new station is only a twenty minute cab ride from this hotel."
Castle shrugged. "So, we'll be a little early. We can look around… it will be exciting."
Alexis pushed her father back out into the hall. "Go back to your room, and relax. I'll get Grams up in time to meet you down in the restaurant for breakfast at seven thirty. That will give us time to have a leisurely meal and still get a cab that will get us there in plenty of time." She closed the door.
Castle stood in the hallway, suitcase in hand frowning at the door to his daughter's room. She sounded serious. He sighed and went back to his room and went inside. He sat down on the sofa and tried to figure out what he should do.
He glanced at the large freestanding grandfather clock that stood in his room and noted that it was indeed not even 5 a.m. yet. It was too early to call Kate even with the time differential. She'd still be getting ready to leave for work. He'd have to wait another hour before calling her.
What could he do until then? He pulled out his phone and brought up his angry birds game.
He fell asleep in minutes, and was woken up when his phone rang much later. It was Alexis down in the restaurant, wondering where he was. He grabbed his luggage and hustled out the door of his room.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Kate dragged herself into her office at 8 o'clock sharp. That was when she was supposed to show up and that's when she did. At first she'd been always in and hour early and stayed hours late depending how much paperwork was sitting on her desk at the end of the day.
But things had changed for her. Her attitude had changed. She was still dedicated to her people and what her job stood for, but other things had changed. There was no doubt that she would still put in the time if there was a critical situation, or if she felt her being there would somehow be helpful to a particular case.
Now, she also had a life outside the precinct. She never envisioned herself as a nine to fiver, and she still wasn't. But she acknowledged that she had a life outside of her job. A life she really loved.
As a captain, she no longer found herself out in the field investigating individual cases. That didn't stop her from allowing herself to show up out at a crime scene now and then. She liked to keep her nose in the down and dirty once in a while. But she had to admit that it just wasn't the same without Castle around anymore.
Once she took the promotion; that pretty much took Castle out of her working life. He couldn't sit around and watch her doing paperwork in her office, and it wasn't the same if he went out with the 'boys' without her.
At first Rick had gone out with Esposito and Ryan but they soon had moved up to running their own teams and Rick didn't feel like he belonged anymore. Once in a while he'd be asked to come in and consult in a particularly unusual case where his unconventional ideas might help the team see a different slant on the facts that could help lead them in the right direction. But for the most part, Rick stayed home and wrote. Nikki Heat was still going strong, though when Nikki was offered a captaincy she turned it down. So Detective Heat and Jameson Rook were still out in the thick of things.
Kate, more than once, wondered if Castle was trying to subtly tell her something. That for all he praised the advancement and the support he offered her on the promotion, maybe he really hadn't wanted her to take the job. He probably knew that becoming the Captain, would dissolve their police partnership as it had.
She stared at the stacks of paper sitting in different in boxes occupying the majority of the space on her desk. She'd only had room for one picture on her desk top. It was a picture of all of them, including her father. It had been taken right after their impromptu wedding out at their Hampton house. Even her mother's elephant's had been relegated to a shelf above her file cabinets. With a long sigh, she reached for the largest stack and began to shuffle through the papers on the top of the stack. Her day had begun.
After hours of mind numbing paperwork she was saved by the ring of her personal phone. She reached into her jacket pocket and smiled as she saw who was calling.
She thumbed 'accept' and with a breathy voice answered. "Hey, lover. How's your preparation for the big ride coming along?"
Castle's smile could be heard over the phone. "It's getting more exciting as we get closer to departure time. You wouldn't believe all the famous people that are here!"
Kate laughs at Rick's little boy enthusiasm. "I understand there is a famous mystery writer riding that train today."
"Pfft," Rick denigrated her comment. "I'm nobody compared to some of the people here."
Kate frowned. "Well, I happen to think you are a pretty special person."
"And I think you are extraordinary, but I haven't been able to convince all the rest of the world of that quite yet. But I'll never stop until I do."
Kate has to swallow the lump in her throat. "You are probably the only person who thinks that, but as long as you are the one who thinks so, that's all I'll ever need."
She could hear a gulp on the other end of the line. "As much as I hate to say this, but we have to go and get our luggage checked in. I'll talk to you tonight love." There was a pause. "If I should disappear off the face of this earth just know that I've never known anyone like you and I count myself the luckiest man in the world that you picked me to be your one and done." There was a pause. "Even if Rogan O'Leary snuck in there first." Castle laughed.
Her phone disconnected. Kate wiped at a lone tear the escaped her eye and tracked down her cheek. She would get even with him for that remark. Her mind went immediately to their bed. She would definitely have a response for him… tonight.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Castle walked around the brand spanking new station like a kid at an amusement park. It was all so clean and new. Except for a single building and a few worker's to handle the excited crowd the station wasn't actually open yet. It wasn't scheduled to open to the general public for two weeks yet.
Rick looked at his watch to check the time. Like most people he tended to use his phone to check on the time, but since he'd been with Kate Beckett he'd begun wearing a wrist watch. Only his wasn't a sentimental piece like Kate's was. She wore her father's watch as a symbol of the life she saved.
She used to wear her mother's wedding ring as a symbol of the life she lost, but had put it away once her mother's murder had been solved. Now it rested in a special keepsake box on her dresser, and the ring the circled the third finger on he left hand was one that Castle had placed there a couple of years ago.
His fancy Rolex told him that it was about a half an hour until they would be called to board the Silver Streamer. Alan Musk planned to make a short speech over the train's PA system once everyone was seated. Then they would take off on a ride like none of the passengers had ever experienced before.
Rick frowned as he wandered about the mostly empty station. Alexis grabbed him by the arm and turned him toward her.
"Dad, what is with you? You seem more fidgety than normal."
He glanced down at his daughter as if he just noticed her. "Oh, sorry, I'm looking for a restroom. I don't seem to see one around here."
Alexis rolled her eyes. "This is the loading platform area. I'm sure the restrooms are more to the back of the station." She shook her head. "Considering the station isn't even open yet, I doubt you'll be able to find an open one this morning."
Castle had a look of fear on his face. "I have to go. What am I going to do? I know I'll never make it until we get to Los Angeles."
Alexis shook her head. "And what did I tell you after we finished breakfast?"
Castle tried to look innocent. "I don't remember."
Alexis glared at him. "Okay, we'll take a few minutes to go and look and see if any of them might be open by chance." Alexis turned. "Grams, would you come over here please."
Martha Rogers came to her granddaughter's call. "What is it darling?"
Alexis pointed at her father. "Dad needs to find a restroom. I think they aren't open yet, but I agreed we have time to go look for one."
Castle frowned. "I don't need you to follow me around while I look for a restroom. I think I can do that for myself. You two can just wait here by the train and I'll be back shortly."
Alexis shook her head. "Not a chance. I'm not taking the risk that you get lost while you look and don't get back in time because you don't know where you are." She stared down his glare.
"We can all go together. That way, if somehow we get lost or turned around, we are all still together if the train leaves without us. We can always take normal public transportation to get to Los Angeles."
Martha nods. "Very logical darling. But we'd better not get lost. I, for one, am looking forward to this trip." She blushes slightly. "I met a very interesting gentleman not twenty minutes ago, and I plan to spend some of our trip in his company."
Castle rolled his eyes and looked to the sky. Alexis punched Rick in the arm.
"Come on, let's hurry up and find you a restroom so we can get back in time and not miss the train."
They wandered around the ticket station, then found a hallway that lead to a larger area of the station. They walked past closed fronts for various businesses normally seen at a bus depot or an airport concourse. They read the signage of the closed shops as they wandered deeper into the station. There were coffee shops, magazine and book stores, a couple of fast food places, a bar, even a barber shop. But no restroom was seen.
Castle was getting desperate when I saw what he took for a janitor pushing a cart with bags hanging off a loop on one side and a small assortment of cleaning tools sticking up from the bag suspended from the cart's frame. He was a big guy.
Castle cracked a big smile of relief. "Excuse me, sir." He waved at the man.
The fellow realized that there was someone calling to him even though no one is supposed to be there. "Hey, this part of the station isn't open yet. You'll have to leave." He pointed back the way they had come.
Castle came up to the man. "I know that, and I'm sorry, but I really need to use a restroom before the train takes off."
The janitor gave Rick a probing look. "You one of those big muckity mucks taking that new train down to LA.?"
Martha steps up. "Yes he is. He's the famous mystery writer Richard Castle. I'm sure you've heard of him." Rick glared at his mother.
The janitor looked at Martha. "Nope." He turned toward Castle. "The restrooms are closed. The station doesn't open for a couple of weeks yet."
Castle looked around. "Where the hell are the restrooms? We've wandered around here for about 10 minutes and haven't seen a john in all that time."
The janitor pointed to a hallway between a malt shop and a book store. There was a sign hanging from the ceiling of the hallway labeled 'Restrooms' and an arrow pointing down the hallway. Castle slapped himself on the forehead and hurried down the hallway. Both Alexis and Martha followed him.
"Hey, you can't go in there. Those restrooms are closed." The janitor followed them.
In moments Castle was standing in front of a door labeled 'Men'. He quickly pushed on the door only to be stopped by the fact that the door was locked.
"Hey, what gives? Restroom doors are never locked." Castle returned to the janitor who had followed part way down the hallway.
He shook his head at Castle. "I told you they aren't open to the public yet."
Castle noted that the janitor had a large ring of keys clipped to his belt. "I imagine you have a key that will unlock this door on that ring of keys there. I imagine you have to be able to get in to clean when necessary." Castle pulled out his wallet. "It's really important that I be able to use this restroom, before I miss my train." He pulled a hundred dollar bill out of his wallet as he smiled at the large janitor. "What do you say? Be a bud, and help me out?" He extended the bill.
The janitor's expression changed quickly. He reached out and grabbed the hundred, then indicated that all of them follow the sign toward the rooms ahead.
Martha tried to balk at going along. "I think I'll just stay here until you come back, Richard."
The janitor just shook his head. "No, you all go. I want to keep my eye on you all."
Both Alexis and Martha frowned at the man, but acquiesced to his demand. They walked down to the end of the hall until they reached two doors marked with 'Men' and 'Women'. The janitor walked up and pulled his key ring out from his belt on an elastic tether. He unlocked the door and stepped back.
Castle quickly rushed into the room, but before the door closed the janitor pushed both Alexis and Martha in the room ahead of him.
"What is the meaning of this?" Martha exclaimed as she stumbled after Alexis.
"Hey!" Castle shouted as he saw his ladies following behind him.
The janitor suddenly pulled a heavy duty mop out of his cart and snapped the handle over his knee. He held the three foot wooden handle in front of him, waving it around like the club it now was.
"Okay you rich asshole. I think a hundred is not quite enough to make up for the loss of my job for doing this."
Castle looked at the obviously agitated man. "Look, if you need some more money for doing this, how much more do you want?"
The janitor snarled and slammed the wooden handle against the counter. "Don't patronize me Mr. Rich Asshole. I can recognize a gift from the heavens when I see one." He pushed the cart a little forward. "Put your wallets and phones in the cart." They all just stared at him. "Now!"
Castle looked at their robber and gauged his odds. Not good. The guy was at least a couple inches taller and a good thirty pounds heavier. And it wasn't all fat.
Castle tried to look as non-antagonistic as he could as he tossed his wallet and phone in the basket hanging from the cart's frame.
"The ladies too." He nodded toward both, then the cart. Both glared at him as they tossed their wallets and phones into the cart. "I don't trust what's in a woman's bag. Toss your purses in the cart also."
"Of for crying out loud. Don't be ridiculous." Martha scolded the robber.
"I said toss in those purses, now!" He slammed he improvised weapon on the counter again. "Do it!"
They both tossed their purses in the cart.
He slowly backed up, watching them all the way. He slipped past the doorway quickly and used his key to relock the door.
Castle ran to the door and pushed against it, but to no avail. It was locked more securely than he could possibly force. "Who puts a lock on a restroom?" Castle wailed.
Alexis came over and put her hand on her dad's shoulder. "I've recently read that malls, and other public places that aren't 24/7 type enterprises have gone to locked restrooms to keep derelicts and the homeless from camping out in them at night." Alexis gave the door a push. "So what do we do now?"
Martha marched up. "Won't they send someone searching for us when they find out that we didn't make the train?"
Castle rolled his eyes. "I seriously doubt that anyone is going to be missing us. I got the tickets at the last minute, and while I'm known is the world of fiction literature. I'm pretty sure that given the guest list on that train, very few people taking the trip would know me by sight even if they recognized my name." Castle sighed. "Actually, I'm pretty sure no one except the guy who checked in our luggage even knows we are supposed to be on the train at all."
"So what do we do, dad?" Alexis had a worried frown on her face.
Castle shrugged. "Since we never saw anyone else while we were looking for the restrooms except the single janitor, I'd say our chances of anyone accidently finding us until another janitor comes along are slim."
"That might be days before another janitor comes around." Alexis grumped.
Castle smiled at both of them. "It might be, but someone will eventually notice we aren't where we are supposed to be, and a search will be made. But first…"
"What?"
"I need to use the facilities."
