Enjoy.
Haru woke up to a streak of soft sunlight on her face and warmth surrounding her. She nudged closer to the warmth, and didn't want to wake up yet. It was comforting, this weight she felt wrapped around her.
"Hahi. My blanket is not this heavy." Haru stopped to think.
Then the warmth around her moved, she heard a deep breath being taken and felt a whiff of air in her hair. It took her a moment to put one and two together. Mornings were not when she was at her brightest of mind.
"Oh, that's right~desu." She thought, once she remembered what had been going on the last evening. She took a more comfortable position on the couch and wrapped her arm a bit tighter around Hayato. He was still asleep, but she knew he wouldn't be for long. So she decided to not waste this rare moment and just listened to his calm breathing and heartbeats.
Haru was just about to fall back to sleep, when Hayato moved against her, and she heard a shift in his breathing pattern. She knew he was awake when he gently started drawing small circles on her back. Haru wasn't sure if Hayato did that consciously, but she dared not to ask, fearing he might stop doing it. She found the act rather endearing, tho it did tickle sometimes.
"Gokudera-san?" She whispered after a while.
She heard a low hum as an answer.
"What time is it?" She asked quietly.
"I don't know, and I don't care." His morning voice was low and didn't yet have it's usual bite.
"Can you check?"
"Check yourself."
"Don't want to. Give me five more minutes." Haru nudged against Hayatos chest, to which he didn't protest.
"How will you know it's been five minutes if you don't know what time it is?" He asked though.
"Shh. Let's not think about that." Haru mumbled.
Both knew they wouldn't fall back to sleep anymore, but they weren't quick morning people type, so they just stayed like that.
From anyone else's point of view, this could have seemed like something sweet and romantic. Falling asleep on the arms of someone close to you. Waking up their warmth wrapped around you. Feeling content in all the things in your life.
For now, it was just another Thursday morning after a long previous day of school and a late evening full of studies for them.
"Gokudera-san?" Haru asked him after starting to feel more awake.
"What?" Hayato huffed.
"How did the documentary end?"
Haru felt the soothing motion of Hayatos hand on her back stop when he started thinking. Then he pulled away and Haru opened her eyes tiredly to watch as Hayato did a short stretch and rubbed his owns eyes to get the sleep out of them. Then he winced at his slow train of thought.
"I don't know, I fell asleep." Hayato answered and turned to take a look over his shoulder and whispered: "Shit. The TV's still on." Even though it wasn't broadcasting anything, he didn't want to leave unnecessary devices on for long periods of time.
For a moment he thought about reaching for the remote control and turning off the TV, but chose to ignore it instead and turned to face Haru again.
Hayato was caught off guard by the look in Harus chocolate eyes. They were so soft, but still actively observing him.
His heart skipped a beat.
He hated when it did that.
Hayato saw the soft sunlight around Haru, and the shadow his body casted against it. She looked like she'd have a gold lining on the other side of her face. Her brown, slightly messy hair looked like threads of gold had been sewn into it. Little specks of dust danced around her, looking like stars against the sunlight.
Hayato both hated and loved the way she made him feel in moments like this. Even though it was just another Thursday morning after a long previous day of school and a late evening full of studies, it was a beautiful Thursday morning. She was beautiful.
Little did he know, Haru felt the same way. As he had turned away to check the TV, she had been captivated by the warm golden lining the sunrise gave to his jawline and his silver hair. As Hayato had turned back towards Haru, the sunlight had formed sort of a halo around his head, and his green eyes had glistened like jewels for a moment.
Harus breath hitched as the look on those green eyes had softened and started to observe her in return. She wasn't sure if it was the sunlight or not, but the tips of Hayatos ears seemed to redden as she realized a smile had found its way to her face.
"Meow."
The trans they were in was broken when Uri meowed and both of them flinched a little at the sudden sound of protest from the cat.
A tired and bothered look entered Hayatos face as he sighed.
"Oh shit. The cat needs to be fed." He said and rubbed his face.
"Is that what gets you up every morning?" Haru asked, slightly amused.
Hayato only shrugged as an answer, to which Haru slightly giggled.
"Meoow." Uri meowed again.
"I heard you the first time!" Hayato snapped at it.
Haru couldn't help the short laugh that escaped her lips. She then patted Hayato on his arm. "I have an idea. You go feed the cat and make something to drink, I'll cook us breakfast." She suggested.
Hayato looked at her, visibly not quite exited about her plan. "Isn't it too early for that?" He tried talking her out of it.
So Haru lifted herself to hover above him, to see the clock.
"No. It's not too early. I mean, we'll have plenty of time, but isn't it nice to eat breakfast without a hurry for a change~desu?"
As Haru brought her gaze back to Hayato, she was taken aback by the way Hayatos eyes glimmered in the indire sunlight, with soft awe at her. (He saw more dust stars)
They spent most their time together into studying. This was not the first time she had stayed at his place over night, and he did occasionally sleep at her place too. But it was rare for them to sleep together like this. She would have been able to count the times with the fingers of one hand. Usually it was not intended either. Accidents like this happened.
To say there were feelings at play would have been too early too. She knew she had feelings for him, but figuring out what sort of feelings, was still a work in process. He had been around consistently for quite a while now and she had started to take his company as granted.
Haru had given up on Tsuna as well, but she wasn't sure if she was ready for anything else for now. And for now, she found enough joy in these little moments of nothing more around him.
Hayatos hand rose to touch Harus side as he drew circling patterns on her again. The look on his face didn't change. He was all alone in his train of thought, awed by the way she looked in the morning sun, on the verge of realizing something, but getting there slowly. Too slowly for it to happen today.
"Please, don't look at me like that." Haru said and blushed as she got up from the sofa and climbed over him.
Hayato squirmed and blushed when he realized he had been staring.
"Meeooww!" Uri protested rather angrily at this point.
"Oh for fucks sake, I know!" He snarled just as angrily at the cat and turned off the TV before getting up.
Uri sat next to an empty food bowl, staring at Hayato with eyes that said very clearly how-dare-you. Hayato scoffed at the cats expression, returning the look.
He filled the bowl and as Uri started eating, so started the purring. Hayato couldn't help but smile a bit at the cat for the audible show of happiness, and he gave it a few scratches behind the ears before straightening back up and turning to help Haru.
Hayato started preparing coffee and tea cups for both of them as Haru worked on some eggs.
He was setting plates and chopsticks to the table when Haru turned to him.
"Would you purr if I scratched you behind your ears?" She asked, like she would have been asking about the weather.
Hayatos face did a full run of emotions from confusion and disbelief, through amusement, then doubting if he heard right to realizing he did, and finally setting to a scowl. A slightly playful scowl, but a scowl anyway.
"What the fuck, woman?" He asked in return, then continued his task.
Haru shrugged and smiled. "I was just wondering."
When Hayato didn't seemingly share her amusement on the topic she added: "It would be hilarious if you purred."
"Do you purr?" Hayato then asked, his usual annoyed attitude starting to show.
A teasing grin spread to Harus face. "Do you wanna find out?" She challenged, and turned around laughing, to finish the omelets she was making, when Hayato looked at her dumbfounded again.
"What is wrong with you?" He asked, but Haru heard a smile in his voice.
Haru was about to turn the omelet when she felt a tug on her waist from behind and Hayato pressed her against himself. His head dropped to the side of her neck, his warm breath and strands of hair sending ticklish shivers along her skin as he brought his face upwards, leaving behind a feeling of soft brushes from his lips and nose along the way.
Her breath hitched on every brush and her eyes almost fluttered close.
Haru sucked in a sharp breath when Hayato stopped and his breathing tickled her ear. He stayed like that for a moment, tension building in the room.
With a low and husky, almost tempting voice he asked her: "Do you wanna purr for me?"
For a moment, she was tempted by the thought. But reason found her.
"What are you doing Bakadera!?" Haru spun around, trying to sound mad, her face almost glowing red.
"What?" Hayato asked, amusement plastered on his face because of her reaction. "You started it stupid woman."
Haru only huffed embarrassed, evading Hayatos gaze, trying to hide a smile behind a pout.
"Get off me~desu!" She then playfully pushed him away, smiled at him briefly and then finished with her cooking.
When they sat down to eat breakfast, conversation went it's typical way. They discussed today's courses and schedules, made some plans, wondered if it would rain in the evening (argued about it actually), rescheduled for finishing the documentary they were supposed to watch the previous day, Hayato whined about his psychotic fangirl group and Haru gave him instructions if he were to see a certain person stalking her (basically bomb him).
Haru took a look at Hayato, who was eating his omelet and scrolling through schedules on his phone. Over the rim of her mug Haru kept looking as she took a sip of her tea and thought: "Yeah. Just another Thursday."
AN: Thanks for reading! I'm so weak when it comes to stories where Gokudera and Haru are not (yet) together but act like a couple and show affection towards each other in more subtle ways.
And I kind of believe Gokudera is just more honest when he's tired, when that grumpy attitude is still asleep. Like he'd just be too tired to be pissed off first thing in the morning.
And yes, I made Uri an alarm clock.
Till next time!
