It had scarcely been a day since your polarizing visit with Your Diamond, and to say it hadn't passed by at a snail's pace would have been the understatement of the century. Frack, maybe even the millennium! You, after the immense relief and reinstalled limb enhancers, couldn't help but feel that the other shoe was about to drop.

Nothing like this had ever occurred. At least, not that you knew. You never really had the chance to go in-depth into Gem history, so you don't really have information regarding events such as this. Maybe it has happened before, and the Empire just deemed it of too little importance to be recorded. That didn't matter to you in the moment, though. You were anxiously waiting for some sort of punishment, that Yellow Diamond's mercy was just a cruel ruse, and you would have to return to her to be shattered, or tortured, or-or...

You stop yourself from falling into a never-ending cycle of worse and worse scenarios of what might happen to you if her mercy turns out to be just some cruel game. You didn't need to think about those things, besides, you had more pressing matters to worry about now: such as the assignment that Your Diamond had you reassigned to. You read over the detailed briefing that had been included with the reassignment document and found a picture of the planet that you were being sent to. Seeing the planet made you pause. You knew the planet's name, you'd known it had existed in this universe, but seeing it made you realize something: It didn't look like the planet from your memories.

Earth was the name of the planet, and the planet you were looking at looked like a cracked mirror of the planet that you were familiar with. Oh, the general shapes of the landmasses on the planet's surface looked like the ones you knew, but there were glaring differences in both shape and climate that you notice with more than a passing glance. The climate was vastly different from your Earth being mostly, from what you could see from the picture, temperate in climate, with very little variation in land color. Sure, there were bits of land that looked like deserts, but in comparison to the vast amount of green on the planet, they were but small blotches of tan on a green canvas.

Really, you shouldn't have expected anything different. You'd known Earth existed in this universe, given the fact that it was mentioned several times in the basic history compendiums that you were taught after you had emerged.

Gems had been colonizing the planet for a few hundred years or so before it had been abandoned, so the chances of history on Earth being the same was quite low. The multitude of abandoned Gem structures on Earth's surface would have made sure of that; But the very land and climate of the planet changing? That shouldn't have happened.

Everything you knew about plate tectonics, geography, and science told you that, that shouldn't have occurred. This version of Earth didn't even have icecaps, for stars sake! Antarctica was a land of green! Not barren, snowy wasteland, but bright green life! How did that happen? What sort of life existed there? How did it-

Catching yourself mid-tangent, you very nearly facepalm. Really, it's a wonder you haven't been shattered yet, given the fact that your attention span was only comparable to that of a fracking goldfish! Sighing, you shake your head, close the holographic display your fingers made, and start making your way down towards the Reassignment Center.

You didn't need to head to the Reassignment Center, given the fact that Yellow Diamond had, most likely, already went ahead and had your assigned to your new job. You going to the Reassignment Center was more of a formality than anything, you think. Best to make sure they have you reassigned properly, just to be safe.

This is the worst... really, I should have just gone to the ship and shown my reassignment doc to the Gems who'll be taking me to Earth. I didn't need to make this more difficult than it already was...

Your thoughts, whilst being unwelcomed, were true to how you were feeling at the moment. Exasperation and embarrassment were the most prevalent, with your fear and paranoia having taken a backseat when the danger seemed to have toned down to acceptable levels.

When you arrived at the Reassignment Center, you'd been anxious about your decision to get verification about your reassignment. Really, you could have just shown the forum to the Gems who'd be ferrying you to the planet and you would have been fine. Probably.

But you decided to get the request verified. Well, Yellow Diamond did tell you to head to the Center in the first place, so... wait. Yellow Diamond told you to go to the Reassignment Center in the first place. Why did you think that you were doing something wrong? She told you to head to the RC in the first place, you were following her orders!

I've been worrying about nothing, My Diamond told me to come here, I'm following her orders.

Groaning under your breath and shaking your head, you refocus your attention back to reality. You'd already observed the interior of the Reassignment Center; but, seeing as you'd not been called up yet, you elected to look around the area again, just to pass the time.

The inside of the Reassignment Center looked like a mosque, what with the multiple domed roofs and wide-open area of the building. Both the walls and domed ceilings of the Center had grand, colorful murals depicting bits and pieces of Gem history: Some of its highest points, and some of its lowest lows. Among the lows was one mural that had you stare at it for a bit.

It was a mural of one of the Diamonds. Her bubblegum-pink skin, light-pink hair, and pink outfit gave an absurd number of clues as to who the Diamond was. The mural was depicting Pink Diamond, but not at a high point. No, instead the mural was about Pink Diamond's lowest point: her shattering.

In the mural, Pink Diamond had cracks going all the way up and down her body, each one having several spalls, cusps, and skirts as they branched off into various smaller, or larger, cracks. Her body language showed pain and shock, but the emotional rictus set upon her face was one that showed a Gem who realized she was betrayed, totally and utterly. There were two other Gems in the mural with Pink Diamond, a Rose Quartz and a Pearl.

The Rose Quartz was as recognizable as a Diamond was perfect: her hair was styled in several long, tubular ringlets that went down to just below her rear, all of it colored a beautiful pink. Her face was of an angular sort, with a strong jawline and chin. Her eyes were a dark shade of pink. Set between her eyes sat a Grecian nose, complimenting the angular, almost masculine, features on her face. Just beneath her nose lie a set of plump, pink lips. A sharp contrast to the strong, definitive features that made up the rest of her face. She was wearing a floor-length, strapless dress with many folds that took the shape of rose petals. all of it colored in varying shades of white. Her body, like most other Quartzes, was rather tall and muscular, if her arms were anything to go by. She was holding a large, pink sword. Any Gem who knew their history knew that that sword was the one that had brought about Pink Diamond's destruction.

The other occupant in the mural, the Pearl was-well... she was featureless. The only detail you could make out about her was the placement of her Gem, which was an oval-shaped Gem set in the middle of her forehead. Perhaps the painters of the mural thought the Pearl was not as important as the Quartz? It made sense, every Pearl you had ever seen was more of a mantle-piece rather than an actual, functional Gem. The only times you had ever seen Pearls being important or useful was with the Diamond's Pearls...

Moving your eyes away from the mural, you found yourself staring aimlessly around the room, not having any definitive target in mind. Some Gems were of in one of the alcoves of the Center having some conversation about whatever, a Gem of apparent nobility walked haughtily across the room, a short Pearl trying to keep up with the long strides of her owner, an Agate sat at one of the desks staring at you from across the room, more Gems talking about something, and what did I just see?

Twisting your head back to where you saw the Gem, you swiftly found her stare and locked eyes with her. Slowly and deliberately, the Agate points at you and then curls her index finger in the universal motion of 'come here.' Swallowing on reflex, you walk towards her desk, bobbing and weaving your way around other Gems to reach her.

She, like most every other Agate in the Empire, was a heavy set, muscular Gem. Probably due to the fact that Agates are a type of Quartz. The Hair set on her head was styled in a classic, curly bob, colored a pale, baby blue. Her skin was a darker shade of a royal blue. Her face, again like most other Quartzes, was of a powerful frame. A strong jawline, nose, and chin, contrasted with full, plump lips. Prominently featured on her left cheek was a circular, midnight blue gem. Her eyes were boring into yours when you looked at them.

What's an Agate doing a job so menial as this? Probably a punishment, maybe?

"You are Peridot Facet-5D6G Cut-3DF, yes?" she asks testily, seeming to be extremely displeased. Merely your presence seemed to cause her annoyance, which didn't bode well for this particular interaction.

"Yes, I am."

The Agate humphs in response, taking her eyes off of yours as she turned to a holographic display on her desk. Interacting with it, she gestures to one of your arm enhancers and says: "I'm going to need the reassignment form, place your hand on the interface and transfer it to the terminal."

Doing as she says, the holographic display goes off for a moment before it pops up a new screen. Looking through the document at a pace that would have left you spinning from all the words you'd be processing, her eyes rapidly moving right to left, right to left, down a bit, right to left, right to left. Once she finished reading through the 5-page document, she brought up another holographic tab. summoned a keyboard, and got to work typing something out. It didn't take long at all, at least it didn't seem to take all that long.

Once she was done typing, the Agate dismissed the keyboard, re-read the reassignment form, looked over what she typed, nodded, and sent the document to you, saying: "You've been reassigned, you are to report to Jasper Facet-9 Cut-4CU for transportation to your designated work zone. It seems there's another Peridot being transported to that planet, too. Lucky you."

Another Peridot? Well, Earth has been abandoned for millennia, so most of the computer systems and bases that are on Earth are probably damaged beyond what should be used. Maybe she's coming along to help you for the duration of her stay? Or maybe she's also being sent here for...

Let's not go there.

Nodding to the Agate, you turn away from her desk and walk away from it. Making your way through the Center, bobbing and weaving in between the other Gems walking through the Center. With your reassignment in hand, you make your way out of the Center and head of to the landing platform where the Jasper and the other Peridot are waiting for you.
