Avalon watched the man she loved pour his heart out to another woman. Watched as he extended his hand out and asked for her hand in marriage. Just the day before, she had attempted to confess her feelings only for him to cruelly reject her.
And it hurt to know her only friend was the reason why.
Lilian James, the beautiful saintness had captured the attention of the cold hearted Duke and had instantly received his love, the love Avalon had longed for but had no hope in obtaining.
Avalon could only blink back tears as they announced their engagement, and could only hold in her pain as she watched the two stare lovingly at one another. Duke Hardian Salvatore had finally received the hand of the woman he endlessly chased after and everyone clapped, truly happy for the young couple. Avalon smiled, through teary eyes, her heart ached and yearned for a long that could never belong to her and she could do nothing but shoulder through it.
Avalon congratulated her friend and the Duke from a distance, she knew her heart would not be able to bear the sight of her dear friend and the man she loved.
She would allow herself to cry once she was alone in her bedroom, where she could weep with her broken heart and allow her sorrows to be released. Only then could she start anew, release the hold on her heart and finally move on.
~.~.~.~
"The poor girl," I mumbled as I turned my phone off and placed it on my night stand. "Having to watch someone you love continuously choose someone else and not even spare the mercy of rejecting you properly."
I'm happy she's at least choosing to move on, hanging on would only cause her more pain. Though I wish the book would continue, the author hasn't been active since last September. It's been a whole year since the news of the book being put on pause. I'd really like to know if Avalon ever does get over the Duke and finally move on. I also would like to read about her finally putting her crappy family in their place.
They all deserved to rot for making my favorite character suffer so much, the reasoning was so stupid too, why would someone care so much about magic? Just because they believed she lacked an ability, they all hated her. Assholes, reminds me of-
"Katherine!" I sighed as my older sister shouted my name, the story reminds me of my family and their shitty personalities. "I need you to come here, please!"
I threw my blanket off my body, goosebumps instantly forming across my skin as the cold air hit me. "I'm coming, I'm coming! Don't get your knickers in a twist, damnit."
"Hurry up!"
Ugh, where was mom and dad when you needed them? Oh right, taking care of that disappointment of a brother. Just as bad, if not worse, than that troll I call a sister. I stomped my way towards her room, rolling my eyes as she insulted my weight.
I'm not even that fat, it's not my fault food tastes so good and I tend to stress eat. Maybe if Camille and Zach stop being such hindering assholes then I could stop eating my sorrows away. I slammed the door open, eyes narrowing at the thin brunette wrapped up her blanket.
"What?"
Crooked teeth flashing as she smirked at me, I was so tempted to just punch her teeth in but alas, only I would be the one getting in trouble. "I'm currently craving chocolate but we're out since someone," Muddy brown eyes glared at me, obviously hinting at the fact that I may or may not have eaten the chocolates hidden in the pantry because I was sad Bonnie Bennett was never able to get her happy ending. "Ate it all."
I once again rolled my eyes. "And? What do you expect me to do?"
"Obviously you'll go to the store since your dear sister wants snacks. Be useful for once in your life, yeah?"
I wonder how useful I'll be when I snap your stupid neck, peace and quiet will finally be granted to me. "Whatever, just give me money." I'll be damned if I use any of my savings for this shitty brat.
"Uh, you ate the chocolates so you should buy them." She said it with such a condescending tone that I was tempted to say fuck it and smack her.
"Uh, you want the chocolates so you give the money otherwise take your craving and shove it up your ass."
She rolled her eyes and reached into the nightstand drawer and pulled out a five. "Here, get me a milk chocolate Hershey bar. And try not to eat it on your way back."
"Yeah, whatever." I flicked her off and walked out. Hopefully mom and dad get back soon, if they take any longer than they might be one short of a child.

The convenience store wasn't that far from our house, it was just two streets down. The flickering lamppost was the only source of light, but it was bearable. As long as I could see and not stumble into anything or anyone then it was good.
Just as I reached the corner, I saw some creepy looking guys standing near an opening leading into an alleyway. They looked to be in some heated argument, which meant that I should probably go around and avoid them as much as possible. I'm not about to be in the center of whatever is happening, I'm not going to die.
It was just my luck that I didn't get that far because as soon as I turned to walk away I bumped into a broad chest. God damnit! I hate everyone and everything, I just wanted to buy chocolate and go home but no. Instead, I'm probably going to die and I didn't even get to finish my strawberry shortcake.
"Where you going, pretty thing?" Pretty thing? Me? How nice, if only you weren't a creepy ugly old man.
"I'm going home." I said, leaning back slightly to avoid the stench of alcohol. "Please get away, you smell awful."
His lips curled into an ugly sneer, eyes peering down at me lecherous. "You think you're funny?" He gripped my arm painfully tight, can a car pass by so I can throw myself in front of it? I'd rather die by my own volition than to probably be raped and murdered by this shithole. "Let's go, girl."
I stumbled as he shoved me forward, pushing me toward the arguing men. Damn, I was going to die by the hands of ugly men. My dreams of being murdered by a cult and placed in buzzfeed unsolved were ruined.
"Look what I found, boss." The boss turned out to be the bulky guy with tattoos all over his body and a disgusting beard. The animes and dramas I've watched were a lie, men with beards were not attractive. At least not in real life. "Ain't she a pretty thing?"
Stop complimenting me, my dude. You're going to kill me, the least you could do is spare me the embarrassment of being hit on by a hideous creature.
The boss leaned closer to my face, his breath stank of alcohol and something dead. I really hope he didn't eat someone after killing them, I don't want to be eaten, at least not in the murdery way and not by this...thing. "What's your name, pretty?"
I grimaced and tried leaning away. "I'm not telling you shit, and for the love of all things animated, don't call me pretty."
His leering smirk faded into a dark glare, he gripped my hair in his hand and tilted my head up. His hot breath poisoning the air I'm breathing. "I don't like your attitude."
I spit in his face. "Deal with it." I laughed tauntingly, if I was going to die then I was going to do it with dignity.
My head snapped to the left as a large, heavy hand struck me across the face. My right cheek stung and I could taste a bit of blood. I spat onto the ground, a small splatter of blood hit the pavement.
"Not so funny now are you, girl?" He chuckled, I rolled my eyes at the stupid bastard.
"Literally just kill me already, your voice is boring me."
That small comment earned me another strike across the face, this one actually hurt like a bitch. I coughed, spraying a little blood onto the asshole's face. That action caused me to giggle.
"Oops," I smiled before catching sight of an oncoming truck. If he doesn't want to kill me then I guess I'll just have to get rid of them myself.
I flung my head back and smashed it against his face, wincing in slight pain and the man groaned. The hands gripping my arms had loosened enough for me to break free but the momentum in which I used caused me to stumble forward, placing myself right in front of the speeding truck instead of those dirty bastards. Really?
"Oh, fuck me.." I groaned just as the truck hit me and pain exploded all over my body. It would be nice to just die but fate wasn't on my side, I felt my aching body slam against the street and heard distant screams.
Why are people just now appearing? What about when I was being harassed? Assholes.
I sighed when my eyes started drifting shut and the pain began fading away as I was embraced in darkness. Death was welcomed with open arms because at least now I don't have to take my algebra exam and I don't have to put up with my shitty family.
Hey I guess my parents were now one short of a child, I was right.
Ugh, goodbye and fuck you world.

I blinked as I appeared in a bright room, it was entirely empty, nothing but white walls and even a white floor. Where the hell am I?
"You're in the inbetween." The fuck was that? A bodiless voice? Was I going to die? Wait, I was already dead so there's no point in worrying. "I have come to give you a proposition." The voice continued.
"What proposition?" I was curious enough to indulge in whatever the hell was going on. "And what's the inbetween?"
"The inbetween is for the souls that passed before their time, a chance for them to either get closure or start anew."
I tiled my head, eyes scanning for the person that was talking but there was only endless white. No one else was present but me. "Start anew? Like being sent back or being reborn?"
The voice ignored my question and instead said, "The proposition I have for you is that I can transfer your soul into another dimension, but you must help the body in which you're replacing to finally live free."
"Live free? You're really not making any sense."
"Do you accept?"
I scowled. "You really don't make sense, weirdo."
"Do you accept?"
"Shut up! Explain things properly before I make a decision." I demanded.
The voice sighed before speaking once more. "You will be placed in the body of a girl whose only known pain, she wants to be free from the shackles that keep her locked but she's afraid to let go. You have no such fears and you do not care what others think of you. With your personality, you may be able to help her finally live her happy life."
"I just got to help some pitiful girl?" There had to be a catch.
"She is a noble so you'll have plenty of money to spend," the voice continued. There's a but, I can feel it. "But," there it goes. "You have to stop her future death."
I raised a brow. "So there's a possibility that I may die again? Am I able to defend myself? Because I promise you I will not go down without a fight, if I am dying then so are they."
"The world you'll be transferred to has something called mana, with the mana comes special abilities. The body you'll take over has a certain ability that will assist you in your journey, it's incredibly powerful so you'll have to learn control. You may defend yourself in all ways possible, your sole purpose is to live freely and survive. No matter what."
"Nice, alright send me."
"Good choice," a sudden feeling of pain enveloped me, I groaned as I fell to the ground withering in agonizing pain. This shit hurt, I very much regret my decision. "Good luck, young one."
Those were the last words I heard as my eyes flickered open, revealing a very luxurious room. The pain had diminished and the sound of knocking rang through the silent room.
Well, no going back now.
