~Puck~
Day Six:
The next night...
"Daphne, did you use my makeup?" I heard Sabrina yell, from down the hall.
She must have gotten up to use the bathroom during the movie. It was around nine, and I had been in the living room with Sabrina and Red, but when they suggested we watch High School Musical, I had quickly made my escape. Pinocchio was mumbling in his sleep beneath me. He must have been tired to fall asleep this early.
"Daphne!" Sabrina yelled again.
I wondered how Pinocchio hadn't woken up.
"Puck!" She yelled, standing in the doorway.
"What?" I groaned, before quickly fixing my tone.
"Do you know where Daph is?"
I shook my head and watched as Sabrina cautiously walked into the room. She bent down and checked underneath our bunk-bed. She checked behind the potted plant and inside the closet.
"She's not in here," I told her.
"She's not in my room either."
"You should check Red's, she probably went in there to snoop around and fell asleep."
I climbed down the ladder and followed her down the hallway. Red's door was shut. Sabrina opened it slowly and we both peered inside. It was spotless, as usual. Red was a neat freak and was constantly getting on me about my messy room at Granny's.
"Puck, Daphne is clearly not in here," Sabria said, sounding disappointed.
"Well, maybe she went up in the loft and fell asleep," I suggested, hoping to cheer her up.
"You're a genius!" Sabrina exclaimed.
"I know," I smirked.
She swatted my arm and we both walked back out of the bedroom.
"Red!" Sabrina yelled. "Climb up to the loft and see if Daphne's up there."
I listened to her feet hitting the rungs as she clambered up the ladder.
"She's not up here," Red called back, almost immediately.
I watched Sabrina's face fall and searched my brain. If I was Daphne, where would I be?
"Maybe, she walked to the corner store to get a snack and got lost." I shrugged.
"She doesn't have any money." Sabrina shot down the idea. "And she knows not to go out wandering in the dark. Besides, she's too afraid of goblins, even if she won't admit it."
I let out a small chuckle, and Sabrina giggled, but underneath, I could tell she was worried.
"Maybe she got kidnapped!" Sabrina gasped. "I need to call her, right now."
I watched her type Daphne's number into her phone. Her face grew paler and paler with each empty ring. After the longest fifteen seconds of my life, her voicemail started playing.
"Hello, you have reached the voicemail of Daphne Delilah Grimm. But, you might also know me as Marshmallow, which means your name is Puck. If this is Puck, hang up. I didn't answer because I'm probably not talking to you, because you played a mean prank on me. If it's anyone else, just call back later, I'm just busy."
Normally, I would have laughed at her voicemail, but right now, I had a pit in my stomach.
"Maybe she'll answer me on Snapchat," Sabrina said.
She tapped the glowing yellow icon and searched her sister's name again.
Daphne Grimm-Pending…
"She unadded me?" Sabrina gasped.
I pulled out my own phone and searched her name, but received a message identical to Sabrina's.
Daphne Grimm-Pending…
"Red!" Sabrina screamed.
"Yeah?" She called back, casually.
For someone who was supposed to be Daphne's best friend, Red didn't seem too concerned about her disappearance. Something about the whole situation seemed fishy. And, as the prince of smelly, stinky, rancid, and rotting things, I knew all about fishy. I followed Sabrina into the living room. Red was lying on the couch, phone in hand.
"Give me the phone," Sabrina said.
"No," Red powered the phone off.
Sabrina's eyes narrowed. "Why?"
"Personal property, it's a law."
"Well, I won't touch it, but I need you to look something up."
"What do I need to look up?" Red asked, cautiously.
"Go to Snapchat, and look up my sister's name."
Red hesitated.
"Now," Sabrina said, sternly.
"I don't see why I need to." Red shrugged.
"Because I don't know where my sister is, and if I can't find her in the next half-hour, I think we need to get the police involved."
"No!" Red's eyes widened.
This was definitely fishy. I shot Sabrina a look.
"Red, hand me the phone now, or I'll tell Puck exactly what happened in the woods with Pinocchio."
"You wouldn't."
"I would." Sabrina retorted.
"Well, I'd sure love to know some juicy secrets about the puppet and Little Red Riding Hood," I added, pretending I didn't already know. "What happened, Sabrina? It'd be a shame if we didn't get Red's phone and you'd have to tell me."
"Nothing happened," Red stated, though the steam blowing out of her ears told me differently.
I smirked as she reluctantly handed Sabrina her phone. She typed in Daphne's name. Her eyebrows knitted together.
"Seen four minutes ago on Lake Marlin Road…" The girl muttered. "Red, where is she?"
Red looked at the floor. I knew if Sabrina pressured her enough, she'd cave and tell us.
"I'll tell Granny that you helped her sneak out if you don't tell me where she is right now." Sabrina crossed her arms, the phone still in hand.
Red was silent.
"This is someone's house. Whose house is she at?" She asked.
Sabrina was so hot when she was bossy, but I needed to focus on finding Daphne.
"Red," Sabrina repeated when Red was silent again. "Where is she?"
"I have no idea where she is, I just know she went to that party," Red muttered.
"Daphne went to a party," I repeated, in disbelief.
"The party she was talking about with those guys?" Sabrina yelled, visibly angry.
"I don't know, just a party, I don't know details." Red shrugged.
I watched as Sabrina's face went from anger to disappointment. She walked towards the kitchen and I followed her. I pulled out a chair for her and she sat down.
"It'll be okay, Brina," I assured her. "We can go get her right now."
"It's not that, Puck." She said, a tear slipping down her face. "I just can't believe I didn't catch her."
"You were distracted by the movie, don't worry about it."
"It's just so weird. She's growing up now. Like, right in front of me, and there's nothing I can do to stop it. I just have to let it happen. I have to watch her talk to boys, and get involved in drama at school, and she gets insecure about stuff now, and she's losing her innocence. And now, she's sneaking out to go to parties with kids our age."
I was silent. I couldn't imagine what Sabrina was going through. Daphne was her best friend. And her little sister. Since I didn't live with them anymore, I only caught bits and pieces, but I knew what Sabrina meant when she talked about Daphne growing up. I pulled her closer to me and she laid her head on my shoulder.
"I'm supposed to be the Queen of Sneaks, and now there's a twelve-year-old going behind my back and I didn't notice." She continued.
"Well, if there's a silver lining in this situation, I'm sure she learned everything she knows from you." I smiled.
"Probably, but-"
"Grimm, you know I'd sit here and listen to you talk all night if I could, but I think right now, we need to go get Daphne." I finally said.
I carefully set Sabrina down outside the house. I could hear the music blasting from inside. I looked at her, she seemed even more worried than before. I hoped Daphne was okay. I grabbed her hand and started walking to the front door. It was wedged open with someone's sneaker. I wondered where the other one was.
"Which one of us invited you?" A boy, who must have been at least six-foot-five, asked us when we reached the porch.
I searched my mind. Had Daphne mentioned any names to us? I nervously glanced at Sabrina.
"Jack," She quickly answered, when she saw me looking at her. "Jack invited us."
He nodded.
"He usually doesn't invite blondes, but maybe he made an exception for you." The boy shrugged, smirking at Sabrina. "I know I would."
"Hey buddy, back off," I said, winding up my fist.
"I'm Ethan, by the way. Do you have a Snap?" He laughed.
I lunged at him. Sabrina grabbed my sleeve and pulled me back.
"I don't think we'll be able to get Daphne if you beat up one of the hosts, Puck." She hissed.
"Alright, man, just take your girl and go inside."
"Who's Jack?" I asked Sabrina, once we were out of earshot of Ethan.
"No idea, but there's usually a guy named Jack running around somewhere." She shrugged.
I searched the room for Daphne. Every kid in the room looked like they were our age or older. Sabrina seemed to notice too. I squeezed her hand, and she looked at me and smiled.
"Excuse me?" Sabrina said, tapping a girl with red hair on the shoulder.
The girl turned.
"Do you know if anyone named Daphne is here?" She continued.
"No, sorry." The girl responded, before going back to talk with her friend.
Nearby, there was a cluster of boys with dark hair standing around a table. Sabrina shoved her way into the group.
"Do any of you know a girl named Daphne?" She asked.
They all shook their heads, before going back to talking amongst themselves. Sabrina stepped back and sighed.
"I'm sure she's here somewhere," I whispered to her, grabbing her hand and pulling her towards the stairwell.
At the bottom, there was a door leading to a large, open room. There were multiple couches, all filled with couples making out. I ignored them and continued walking, with Sabrina right behind me. There was a long hallway. The tall ceiling reminded me of the magic mirrors our family had once owned, and I shuddered. There were multiple rooms lining the hallway. I glanced into each of them, in search of Daphne, but they were all empty. Finally, I found a room with a group of people in the corner. I recognized one of the boys I had seen with Daphne on the beach. I walked towards them.
"Do any of you know Daphne?" I asked.
Everyone shook their heads.
"Brown hair, brown eyes, about this tall?" I put my hand at my ribcage, hoping they'd remember her.
"You mean Robin?" A boy asked. "The one with the blue sundress, right?"
"No, I mean Daphne." I shrugged. "Must be someone else."
"Wait, Puck," Sabrina pushed her way into the group. "I think I know what's going on. Do any of you know where Robin is?"
"She's back there with Bailey." Some girl pointed to one of the only rooms with a door, right down the hall.
I felt my heart drop, and I know Sabrina did too. I squeezed her hand and she squeezed mine back even harder.
"O-okay, thanks." She stuttered, before pulling me towards the door.
When we got to the door, Sabrina knocked. There was no answer.
Her face grew pale, and she knocked for the second time. Again, there was no answer.
"What do you want?" A deep voice called from the other side.
"Is Robin in there?" I asked.
I listened, hoping to hear Daphne. I couldn't tell if it was her, but there was whispering and a door shut. Immediately, Sabrina grabbed the doorknob. It was locked. She tried again, pushing into the door with her shoulder.
"Hold on, go over there for a second." I pointed down the hall.
She obeyed. As soon as I was sure she was out of the way, I spun on my heels and transformed into a rhino, and headbutted the door. It turned into a million splinters. The room looked like a girl's bedroom. The walls were pink and the bed was decorated with dozens of throw-pillows. Daphne was sitting in an overstuffed chair, with a red Solo-Cup in hand. She looked terrified, but honestly, more embarrassed than anything. There was a boy with brown hair laying on the bed, facing her. That must have been Bailey, that everyone mentioned earlier. Sabrina appeared behind me.
"Oh my Lord," Bailey groaned. "The alcohol's really getting to me."
I quickly returned to my human form.
"Maybe we won't need forgetful dust…" Sabrina muttered, and I stifled a laugh.
"Forgetful dust?" Bailey mumbled, rolling over.
Daphne was silent, gripping her cup even harder. I heard a few people walk up behind me. They were mumbling about a hippopotamus. I regretted not looking around before I transformed. I said a silent prayer that they wouldn't remember when they woke up the next morning.
"Do it again! I didn't see it the first time." A girl with black hair and a tattoo on her wrist yelled.
"Daphne, it's time to go." Sabrina stomped over to her sister, ignoring the ruckus behind us.
Bailey immediately jumped up, blocking her from getting any closer to Daphne.
"Don't touch them!" I shouted, growing angrier by the second.
"Do you know this kid, Robin?" Bailey yelled.
"Know me?" I shouted again.
"Um," Daphne squeaked, uttering the first word since Sabrina and I had found her.
Sabrina placed her hand on my back, calming me down.
"Do you know these people?" Bailey repeated, still standing between Sabrina and Daphne.
"How are you guys here? How'd you find me?" Daphne asked, ignoring Bailey's question.
"You snuck out, of course, we found you. We've been solving mysteries for the past six years, do you really think we wouldn't solve this one, Daphne?" Sabrina asked, calmly.
"Her name's Robin," Bailey said, grabbing onto Daphne's arm.
"Let go of her," I ordered, lunging for him.
But, this time, Sabrina didn't stop me.
