It was noon at Air Temple Island. Tenzin and his family and Team Avatar were all taking a well-deserved break after defeating Vaatu. Korra used the time to practice some more airbending with Tenzin. Lin came to the island at around five pm, being greeted by a hyperactive Meelo.
"Aunt Lin! Aunt Lin! Aunt Lin!" Meelo chanted over and over again as Lin entered the temple.
"Keep your children at bay Tenzin please," Lin whispered to Tenzin as she sat down in the living room.
"Meelo, stop bugging your Aunt Lin. So, what's with the case?"
"I've told you already Tenzin, it's unsolvable. In fact, we were actually able to go to the last victim's house minutes after the attack, but he was gone!"
"Perhaps this is some kind of spirit." Tenzin pondered as he scratched his beard.
"No, this is a human. The second victim got a good look at the criminal while her mother was being electrocuted." Lin said impatiently.
"Oh, hey Beifong!" Korra entered the room smiling gleefully at Lin, Lin did not return the gesture.
"I heard you were having some trouble with a case. What if we help?"
"None of you can help. If my best detectives can't crack this one, I doubt any of you can."
"Come on! It won't hurt for us to help out." Korra pouted.
"Fine. Check the files." Lin said as she threw the papers on the table.
Korra scanned the files while Tenzin suggested more possibilities of who the criminal may be and how they can catch him.
"A lightning bender who has yellow lightning? I've never seen lightning other than blue lightning."
"Yes! And all the lightning benders in Republic City are shown to have blue only."
"We can help! Me, Mako, Bolin, and Asami can patrol the city at night. And look there's a pattern to the attacks. It's every three nights, he will attack again tomorrow."
Lin glared at Korra while Tenzin sipped his tea. Finally, Lin sighed and held her hands up.
"You're the Avatar, do what you want. Besides, I'm all burnt out."
They had dinner while still discussing the case. Multiple theories were thrown around, one of them being this was a person possessed by a spirit.
"Spirits aren't inherently malevolent, Bolin. They won't just start attacking people and stealing their gold." Tenzin retorted.
"Yeah! But what if it was Vaatu!" Bolin shouted with his hands in the air.
"I defeated Vaatu, Bolin," Korra said while eating her fruit pie.
"Yeah but..."
"That's enough!" Lin interrupted "This is not a spirit, it's a human, a lightning bender."
"What if this person was from a royal family?" Jinora spoke up for the first time since starting dinner.
"What do you mean?" Lin asked with curiosity.
"Well, I've read about one person whose fire was a different color from everyone else's, Azula. Daughter of Fire Lord Ozai and Fire Lord Zuko's Sister. What if this person was from the royal family that's why he has a different color of lightning?"
Everyone at the table stared at her in silence.
"No, that's impossible," Tenzin replied.
"Yes, if a royal family member were in Republic City I would know." Lin chimed in.
"If that's the case then we wouldn't have a problem stopping this guy," Korra spoke up. "Team Avatar is coming for him."
THE NEXT NIGHT
Korra and Asami were stationed at the eastern side of the city, while Mako and Bolin were at the western side. If one of them saw the criminal they would light up a flare and shoot it into the sky to signal the others. So far, it was ten pm and there was still no sign.
"Do you really think we can catch him?" Asami asked Korra.
"I know we can," Korra replied confidently.
Suddenly, a loud sound came from Asami's side. They ran to the source of the sound while Asami lit up the flare. They reached a house whose front door had been blasted open.
"This is it. Let's put this guy where he belongs."
Korra sneaked behind the figure at the front door. The figure turned around and caught sight of Korra. Korra immediately blasted the person off his feet and constricted his limbs with the Earth. The person was masked and had a hood on.
"Busted," Korra said while fist-bumping Asami.
