Norman paced up and down, jiggling his arm. His very good friend, Mary Sue Spoon, had arranged to meet him here on his bed. "I have something warm to tell you," she had said.
Mary Sue Spoon was late, which was very unlike her. Any moment now, Norman expected to see her bounce up, her smooth hair streaming behind her and her shimmering eyes aglow.
Norman heard footsteps, but they seemed rather firm for a delicate and soft girl like Mary Sue Spoon, whose tread was velvet. He turned around and found Ethan staring at him.
"What are you doing here?" Ethan said gently. "I thought you said you didn't want to see me again."
Norman had said that, but now he was beginning to wish he hadn't acted so passionately. "Mary Sue Spoon asked to meet me here." As he gazed at Ethan, his mouth began to throb tenderly.
"Oh," Ethan said, softly. "I'll just go then."
"Wait," Norman said and caught Ethan by his arm. "I was wrong. I still love you. Can you ever forgive me?"
"Yes," Ethan said, smiling. They wrapped their arms around each other and kissed, like a butterfly freed from its cocoon.
From behind a blueprint, Mary Sue Spoon watched with an incredible light in her beautiful eyes. She took a list out of her pocket, and checked off "Norman/Ethan". Then she skipped off to help another lonely man find love again, just as soon as she'd saved the cat from extinction by Triptocaine.
