Endearments of a Tactician and Princess
Chapter One
Robin made his way through the camp, inspecting the torches that needed to be reignited. It was a task that did not seem that important, but nonetheless it was a necessary task that needed to be completed, according to Frederick that is. 'Less light means a terrible fight,' a confusing motto the large-sized knight would recite that made no sense to the tactician. But, even so, he knew it was important to complete a job, no matter how trivial. The task was nothing new to him either, he has been assigned more times than Vaike has lost his competitions to Chrom. However, tonight seemed different, something just seemed off. Every torch he approached was extinguished, but what was strange was the fact that the torches were just recently put out, intentionally.
As he approached the next torch that had been out for several minutes, due to the smoke still appearing from when the flame was once lit. Robin reached inside his coat to grab his fire tome. But as he reached around, he felt nothing more than an empty pocket and soon found his hand had manage to slip outside the pocket, discovering a hole.
"I've just had this sewed by Maribelle." He spoke to himself in frustration. "Did she forget to tie off the stitching or did she forget and assumed she managed to patch the hole? Did I make another hole without realizing it?"
As he continued to ponder and stare at the hole, he looked behind to check his tracks scanning the ground for his now missing tome. While searching, he was quickly greeted by hands jumping out of one of the nearby tents and pulling him in.
The moment Robin was brought into the tent, he found himself pushed up against one of the walls as he felt a pair of lips meet his. His eyes that were once wide from the initial surprise were now closed as he fully embraced the pair of lips that were locked with his.
The mouths were then separated as his eyes were met with those that were a deep, ocean blue color. In the left eye, the Mark of Naga was shining bright.
"Hello, Robin." Lucina spoke with a bright smile.
"Hello, Lucina." Robin returned with a smile of his own. "How did you know I was going to be over here?"
"Well, I am pretty good at spying a little, just like my father." She joked before letting him go. "I'm sorry if I surprised you."
"It certainly was a surprise." He chuckled. "But one I would happily accept, so long as it is not a dagger."
Lucina giggled as she wrapped her arms around him and embraced and long, warm hug. With Robin's coat, it almost consumed her, considering how oversized it was. But, for Robin, he felt as if the coat had shaped itself to fit his average form perfectly.
"Thank you for the surprise, Lucina." Robin said after the two let go. "But I must be off. I have lost my tome and need to get this hole in my coat repaired." He showed the hole to Lucina.
Lucina grinned as she walked over to a small table and picked up a book in her hands and presented it to the tactician.
"You mean this tome?" She smiled, holding a leather-bound booklet with the inscription of a magic incantation and the small image of an ember.
"How did you…" Robin began to question.
"How do you think that hole appeared in your pocket?" She continued to grin as Robin accepted the tome from her. "After Maribelle finished sewing up your coat and Frederick assigned you with keeping the torches lit, I snuck into your tent when you went to get yourself a meal and cut a small hole into coat. I know you always place your tomes in your left pocket because you're right-handed so it was easy to guess which pocket it would go into." She explained as she walked back over to the same table and lighted a small candle. "Then it was a matter of following you around and extinguishing each torch until your tome finally fell through the hole."
Robin couldn't help but be impressed with her plan, regardless of the many flaws he saw through, as he wrapped his arms around her, again, and kissed her once more.
"It seems like my skills are slowly rubbing off on you, my young apprentice." He joked as Lucina pushed him away.
"Please," she said. "I think my skills were honed on my own without any outside influence."
Robin laughed as he began to exit the tent, knowing that if he doesn't finish his job in a timely manner Frederick would surely lecture him on being on time. Maribelle will also lecture him on keeping on appearances as he is certain Lissa would tease him for getting the lectures.
Right as he picked up the flap, Lucina caught his arm.
"Robin would…. would you like to spend the night with me…after you're finished with your work?" She asked embarrassed.
Robin smiled and nodded his head, much to Lucina's delight.
"Of course, we cannot let my father or anyone else see." She reminded him. "Since he still doesn't know about… well us and I am unsure how he would respond." She tried imaging several scenarios as did Robin.
"Obviously I will be incognito coming over that no one would even know I was there." Robin joked. "I'll be so quiet, I could make Kellam look bad."
Lucina giggled as she let go of the tactician's coat, allowing him to resume his assigned task.
Hours passed as the final embers from campfires went dark and the soldiers retired to their own tents while the night watch began their patrols around their respective areas, keeping a close eye for any potential invaders. Robin peeked out from his tent, checking the area to make sure no one would spot him. With some of the torches still burning, he knew he would be somewhat exposed to the light but since all the campfires were snuffed, he would take those paths to arrive at Lucina's tent.
"Okay, ready…set…go!" He muttered under his breath before making a mad dash towards the first campfire. Using the colors on his coat, he was able to conceal his entire body, allowing him to nearly blend in with the shadows.
As he arrived at the first campfire, Robin could hear a duo of guards making their way in towards his direction. The silent tactician quickly hoped between two tents, trying his best to camouflage with the surrounding darkness. Minute passed as two guards walked by, oblivious to Robin crouched down and nested alongside the tents. The moment they turned their backs to him and began walking a different path, Robin wasted no time to start hustling straight towards Lucina's tent. Luckily for him, her tent wasn't too far from his, so the route wasn't extremely long nor high risk of being caught.
As he arrived at her tent, Robin looked in several directions to ensure no one was around to notice him as he stuck his head inside.
"Lucina!" He whispered loudly. "Are you th- "
His words were cut short as he found himself, yet again, in the grasp of Lucina's hands, as she pulled him into the tent.
"You know, I'm sure Kellam would give you an almost passing grade." She teased as she held Robin in her arms.
Robin looked at the princess, she was wearing nothing more than her blue undershirt, blue shorts, and blue thigh-high socks. She really was the embodiment of blue, just like how Lissa's outfit and blonde hair are all yellow.
"And why is that?" He asked, pretty sure he was just as silent as the shielded knight.
"Because when Kellam speaks, no one is still aware he is there." She smiled. "You on the other hand, I could hear the moment you stuck your head in my tent." She said kissing his cheek and walking back to her bed. "If we weren't dating, I would most likely would have placed my blade right between your eyes."
Robin laughed as he approached the bed.
"But if I was that silent, then you would have been guessing when I would arrive, if I would even arrive."
Lucina rolled her eyes as she patted the bed to motion Robin to sit next to her. With no hesitation, Robin obliged and sat next to her. Looking around her tent, he could see the princess kept her tent clean and organized. Books where neatly stacked on the tables, maps and scrolls were also rolled up. At the foot of the bed, her sword, Falchion, rested perfectly on its stand. To the left of the bed was a wardrobe that was closed, but he was certain if he opened the doors not only would everything be folded but would have very colorful designs as well.
"You know, I believe this may be the first time I've been inside your tent." Robin commented, still examining the inside.
"Yes, I do believe this is the first time." Lucina noted.
"It is definitely cleaner than mine." Robin chuckled.
"I'm sure that's not true." Lucina said, resting her head on his shoulder.
"Trust me, it definitely is." He said, realizing that next to Vaike and Gregor, his is at least top three of tents nobody would enter unless either dared or bribed. "So, going to Valm." He continued. "Have you ever been there before?"
Lucina lifted her head up but politely shook it. "I've only heard stories about the war that happened over there in my time but never got to visit." She slowly looked down in sorrow as memories of her time began filing her mind. "The Shepherd's lost some of their warriors before losing the rest to Grima." Her hand clenched tightly into a fist.
Robin gently placed his hand on top of hers, comforting the princess.
"Don't worry, this time, it will be different. We won't lose anyone." He gave her a reaffirming look.
Lucina looked up at Robin, her eyes beginning to water before she wiped them away and hugged him.
"Thank you, Robin. You're right, it will be different this time." She smiled as she pulled his face close in and kissed him, while at the same time pulling him fully, lying on the bed.
The two held each other close as they lied in bed the rest of the night with smiles on their faces; prepared to meet whatever they may head on.
