Chapter 1: Beacon

(A/N: English is my third language so please excuse my horrible grammar:( …. )

'Jaune, remember this. Never underestimate your enemy. Weak as they may look to be, treat them as they are the strongest enemy you ever face in your life! Stay focus, never let your guard down, and then strike them with precision and power. That way you'll always be victorious in your every battle.'

~.~

''Welp, here I am.'' Muttered a blonde-haired young man as he stepped down from the bullhead that had taken him from Vale towards his new school, his new place for combat learning for the next 4 years.

It's been nerve-wracking, really, when he submits his transcript. Because he never attends formal school before, He was afraid that the fact he was never formally taught how to fight, might possibly jeopardize his attempt to enter Beacon.

Sure, he learns how to fight from probably what he believed as the strongest warriors the world could possibly offer, but sometimes, even that piece of paper could make his years of harsh training into nothing.

Shaking his head, he tried to remove all the negative thoughts in his head and finally processing what in front of him.

He walked into what he could think of as the largest buildings he ever saw in his life.

Between those buildings, one stood from them all, a tall tower, almost ancient in the sense of style. It's like one of those towers you usually see in the illustrations from fairytales book.

Lots of new students like him are immediately entranced with the sight, many of them begin to taking out their scroll to take pictures of their new school. Maybe sending them to their family, letting them know that they have arrived safely to their home for the next years.

Or maybe just to post them on their social media or something, he'll never know.

But hey, he's not complaining. This kind of scenery is a breath of fresh air after nearly 6 years of living at the foot of a mountain. There's nothing to see there besides snowy landscapes and some rivers.

Sure, there is still a small patch of forest near the place of his house, the place where he was trained by his sisters. But that place looked like haunted woods or something.

There are no other humans or faunus living near them, the only time he met another living being that was not grimms or animals was when he goes to the nearest village and restocked their living supplies. Even then it would only last for few hours before he leave, only to return in the next 3 months when he needs to resupply again.

He didn't know why his sisters refused to live in the nearest populated area rather than living in a secluded mountain. But in the end, he let it go and just accept the fact that he'll be living in there for most likely the entirety of his life.

And now here he is, for the first time ever he'll be spending four years of his life without his sisters beside him.

It's a bit scary, to be honest. But he's here to make his sisters proud. He'll prove to them that they are not wasting their time training him day by day for six years.

Jaune Arc oathed to himself, as he began to take steps toward his new home.

He swears, that one day he will be strong enough to stand beside them and not behind them like he always did.

''Kay, C'ya, Bye!''

''Wait!''

Ruby shouted at the disappearing form of her sister as she was dragged away by her flock of 'friends' towards the entrance hall.

''Where are you going? Are we supposed to go to our dorm? Do we have a dorm?'' Muttered the young huntress-to-be.

Being a klutz like she is, she loses her footing and fell backward. Not knowing that there was another student just walking behind her and ram into a trolley full of luggage hard.

''What are you doing!'' The owner of said trolley shouted at her, as her belonging being thrown away in the air, and drop to the ground.

Catching her wits for few seconds, Ruby looks up towards the source of the shouting.

In front of her was a beautiful young lady, probably as tall as her. Her snow-white hair donned in a side ponytail shined as the sunray beaming them with its light.

One thing Ruby notice from the person she just rammed into was that she has a scar, just barely noticeable on her pale skin but still visible, just right on her left eye.

With blue eyes just piercing right through her, Ruby didn't know what to do.

Just a few minutes ago, she arrived here with her sister, when suddenly said sister, being irresponsible like she could be sometimes (like when she snuck out of the house, looking for information on where her mother whereabouts, destroying a night bar and ended up with their father grounded her all week for that.) and just leaving her there all alone with her friends.

Fully knowing that she has a cute little sister here, alone, who doesn't know what to do, and doesn't know where to go.

The thing is, unlike other students, Ruby is a special case. She was invited by the headmaster himself to attend his school. And being probably two years younger than any other students really messing her up.

At first, she's ecstatic, when the headmaster first invited her to his school. But the next day, she experienced what could be the most anxious moment in her life, thinking about all the responsibilities she has to bear as a student of Beacon.

Is she ready for Beacon? What if she failed the headmaster expectation and perform poorly here? What about her friends in Signal? Would they miss her?

All these questions have been weighing her mind.

''Hey, are you listening to me!?'' The white-haired girl's shout shook her out of her mind.

Ruby could see the pure irritation and frustration written all over the girl's face.

Doesn't want to make the girl in front of her get angrier, Ruby finally opens her mouth.

Even though only stutter can be heard from her. ''U-Um..''

''Do you have any idea what kind of problems you could have caused!?'' Complained the white-haired girl.

Ruby feeling guilty just apologized with a small voice. ''U-Uh, I-I'm sorry…''

Ruby look at her side as she grabs on one of the baggage and giving it back to the owner. With said owner just rudely snatched it from her hands.

'' This is Dust mined and purified from the Schnee Quarry. Just a single mistake in handling it could potentially lead to disaster!'' Said the white-haired girl while taking one of the dust vials.

''Just imagine what happened if these dust leaking? And could possibly explode at us?'' The girl continued her rambling as Ruby just stared at the ground with an embarrassed blush on her face.

Ughh, this can't be happening! It's only a few minutes since she first steps her foot on Beacon, and immediately she got someone mad at her.

This is the worst first day ever!

Fortunately for her, before the girl could yell again at Ruby, someone step up for her.

''Um, excuse me. Could you please kindly let her go? I think she learned her lesson.''

Ruby moved her head to the source of the new voice.

Beside her, a blond-haired young man stands. His blond hair is tied into a low ponytail, and a long bang just sat neatly on his forehead and above his nose and stop just above his right cheek.

He's quite tall compared to the other male students she saw before.

He's not bulky like few other students she has seen. His posture is straight and lean. It was like the type of body most swimmer or athlete would have, but she could see that he's not lacking in terms of muscle.

He wears a black blazer jacket with golden strips and lines decorating his wrists and collar, with a white shirt underneath.

On the back of his blazer, a large symbol of a golden dragon head can be seen. She also sees a red armband with a small symbol of a crescent moon wrapped tight on his right arm.

His buckle strapped on his waist and white pants and black shoes to complete his appearance[1].

To be honest, he looks so dashing with his get-up, he looks really. Probably the nicest to look at than any boys Ruby has seen before.

It took her a few seconds before her rational mind came back. Suddenly, a bright red blush adorned her cheeks.

Did she just checking out a guy she just met? And she even thinking that he looks so good-looking?

'Oh, my oum! I just did!' Thinks Ruby mortified. 'Yang wouldn't leave me alone if she found out about this!'

Calming herself, she looks up again, looking at her savior from the white-haired girl with an embarrassed look.

As she looks at him, he smiled towards her with an understanding smile. His blue eyes show mirth of understanding and even a little bit of amusement. And with that, her cheeks reddened tenfold.

'Oh oum, my face is so hot!' Thought Ruby as she buried her face into her hands.

''And who are you?'' Said the white-haired girl at the young man.

''Ah, forgive me. My name is Jaune Arc, first year at Beacon like you. It's nice to meet you.'' Said the young man-Jaune, extending his right hand, introducing himself to the white-haired girl.

The white-haired girl herself looks surprised. Not expecting this level of politeness from the young man.

A bit unsure of herself, it took her seconds to finally respond.

''A-Ah, likewise.'' The white-haired girl took his hand and shake it.

''Back to the topic, could you please let her go? I don't think she meant what she did. It was just one of those accident moments. It happens sometimes.'' Jaune said, try to reason.

''I'm sure this young lady over here has learned her lesson and feel sorry about it.'' Jaune looks at Ruby who already recovered from her embarrassment.

Hearing him, Ruby nods vigorously at the white-haired girl.

''Y-Yes! I'm so sorry I rammed into you! It won't happen again!'' Ruby said apologetically.

The white-haired girl looks at Ruby for few seconds before sighing. Her tense posture relaxes significantly.

''Ugh, fine. Just make sure it won't happen again.'' Said the girl.

Ruby beamed at her. With a blink of rose petals, she rose from the ground[2] and right in front of the dust girl as she held the girl's hands with her own and begin to shake them. ''Thank you! Thank you! You won't see me do any mistake again!''

''Okay! Okay! Just stop shaking my hands so fast.'' The white-haired girl's cheeks show a bit of red from Ruby's action.

Seeing them, Jaune just smiles lightly.

''Well, then ladies, I will take my leave now.'' Knowing his job is done, Jaune excuse himself and starts to walk towards the academy building, leaving the girls alone.

As he walks, Jaune couldn't help but notice a stare coming from the side. He sees a black-haired young girl with a black ribbon on her head, most likely a fellow student staring at him with her amber eyes before continued walking towards the entranced hall.

Though Jaune could swear, did her ribbon just twitched?

~xXxXx~

A few minutes later, as he walks, Jaune could help but notice that the red-haired girl earlier just idly following him. It's not that he bothered by it. It just feels weird to him that a girl would silently follow him from behind.

After thinking for seconds, Jaune stop. And the girl, Ruby, immediately stops her steps too.

He looks back at her, seeing her embarrassed face, he mentions her to go closer to him.

Ruby shyly steps closer to him, after she arrived at his side, Jaune asked.

''So, is there any reason why are you following me?''

Ruby with a bright blush on her face just stuttered lightly. ''U-Uh, the girl earlier left me behind and I don't know where to go. So I thought I could…just…follow….you..''

Her sentence gets quieter with each word, as she looks at the ground afraid to look at him.

'She's adorable..'

Jaune just looks at her feeling a bit surprised before smiling lightly. ''Ah, it's fine. Come, walk with me.''

With that, those two continued their walk, with Ruby occasionally stealing glances at Jaune, which he couldn't help but notice.

After a minute of silence, Ruby finally breaks the ice.

''S-So, um, thank you for earlier.'' Thanks Ruby to Jaune.

''Hm, ah, it's fine. I saw the whole thing earlier, I saw your friend left you behind and you lose your footing. It's not your fault.'' Jaune said understanding.

''Huh? Friend? Oh ah, that was my sister! I can't believe she leave me alone!'' Groaned Ruby as she started rambling on how irresponsible her sister is.

'Sister? But they looked so different.' Think Jaune in his head, couldn't find any resemblances between those two girls.

But then again, he really didn't have a say on this matter. Because his older sisters themselves, despite being a blood relatives, look nothing alike.

With his eldest, having dark-violet hair and red eyes. While his second eldest with her grey, almost ash-colored hair with amber eyes.

Though when he asked them about it, they just said that their parents got different hair colors.

And being a dutiful brother he is, he just takes their words.

''Just wait until dad finds out about this! She's gonna be in big trouble!'' Jaune let her rambling for a while until she finally stop.

She then stared up at the much taller teenager beside her. He smirks lightly.

''Are you done? Letting that out off of your chest, I mean?'' He asks.

''Y-Yeah, u-um..'' Ruby answered. ''I'm Ruby, by the way, Ruby Rose.''

''I'm Jaune Arc, nice to meet you.''

They continue to walk silently until Ruby couldn't take the awkwardness any longer.

So she decides to do what she did best, talking about weapons.

''So…, I got this thing.'' With a wave of her hand, she unfolds her beloved scythe. Letting the tip of the blade be embedded in the ground. ''This baby is my pride, Crescent Rose.''

Jaune raises his eyebrow. Clearly, the scythe itself is bigger than Ruby. It's almost amazing to see her waving the scythe around so effortlessly. It's either the scythe is built with really light materials or the girl is much stronger than she looks.

Either way, Jaune could see some parts in the scythe that made him thought that the scythe itself has a mechashift system in it. Weapon design that allows the user to transform their weapon into different forms.

He saw what could be a magazine, nuzzle, and scope from various spots on the scythe. So most likely, her scythe can transform itself into a rifle, or a sniper rifle.

Jaune himself was a bit stranger to the concept. Considering he was trained almost entirely to wield standard swords. He was never fond of the uses of guns. Sure, he can wield them and not make fool of himself, but he was never fond of them. The fact that his sisters are also sword users didn't help him much.

''So a scythe, and probably some kind of heavy-hitting gun? Considering the kind of scope you use, is it a sniper rifle?'' Jaune guessed.

''Y-You figured it out? W-Wow, that's so cool!'' Ruby was awed. ''How did you know that?''

''Eh, I was just putting thing by thing together and come with an assumption. That's a cool weapon by the way.'' Praise Jaune.

Hearing his response, Ruby beamed at him. ''Thanks! I put so much effort into this baby! So of course it's cool!''

Moving her attention towards him, Ruby then asks. ''What about you?''

Jaune shifted his position lightly. From his left waist, a single-edged sword is strapped.

The sword mostly colored black with a few golden lines from the handle to the grip, the sword itself was placed inside a white sheath with golden lines. The sword's handle was shaped like some of the shotguns would have but straight and not bend like the shotguns.

Jaune also has a second single-edged sword, strapped on his right waist. The sword was a bit shorter than the one on his hip. Unlike the other one, however, the sword is pure white.

Ruby surprised, she didn't notice them before.

Okay maybe, if she didn't check him out and praising on how good-looking he was before, maybe she would've noticed them.

Poof!

And suddenly, Ruby's cheeks become red again remembering her action earlier.

''This is Lung.'' Said Jaune as he held the handle of the black sword on his waist with his hand.

''And this one,'' Jaune release his hand on Lung and grab the handle of his white sword. ''Is Draco.''

Ruby, like the weapon nerd she is. Disappears with rose petals, only to appear inspecting his swords.

''Wow, these are beautiful,'' Ruby muttered in amazement. ''Can they transform into something else?''

''Huh? No, I like them the way they are. And I was trained with standard swords my whole life. So changing them to anything other than swords would do me no good.'' Answered Jaune.

''Ah, okay.''

''By the way, what does Lung and Draco mean?''

''They mean dragons.''

~xXxXx~

...

Yang Xiao-Long always tried to be the best sister she could be. And as far as she knows, she always did what best for her sister. Even though it's difficult and not always working.

She still remembers when they were still in Signal, making Ruby expand her scroll contacts to more than hers and their father's numbers were much tiring than she could have expected.

With Ruby's low communication skills, and her low self-confidence made her a bit of an anti-social in Signal. She was so glad when Ruby finally opening up and have a small circle she could call friends.

That's why when she heard the news that Ruby is going to Beacon with her, there is a bit of fear that her sister will be friendless and might return to become anti-social like she used to be.

Of course, she would be there for her, but Yang hopes her sister could find new friends here in Beacon.

And that's also the reason why she left her behind. She's hoping that she can find a new person to interact with (preferably not boys.).

And now here she is, waiting in the waves of students, her eyes moving left and right searching for her sister. With a hope that she would found her with other people she can communicate with.

After minutes, she finally found her sister. And the good news is that she was talking to other people.

Though, Yang couldn't help but frown when she saw that the person she's communicating with is a boy.

While she has no problem with Ruby befriending boys, Yang felt uneasy.

Ruby is cute, adorable most might say. And that brings her some unwanted problems.

Being considered as one of the great beauties in Signal was also unwantedly painting a target mark on her back.

Many girls dislike her because they feel inferior with their appearance. Many of them would talk bad about Ruby behind her back and even some of them refused to interact with her. Yang is pretty sure that those hussies would not hesitate to bully Ruby if not for the fact that Ruby was one of Signal greatest fighters.

And then the boys, Yang knew that some of the boys in Signal would sometimes leer at her, looking at her with inappropriate glances.

With Ruby's innocent and naïve nature, it's easy for her to be dragged into something she shouldn't meddle with. It will be easy for those boys to just hit on her and just play with her feeling.

Ruby is so naïve and innocent as that.

Thankfully, they stop bothering her sister after Yang herself beat them in fighting class and threatening to beat their asses if they don't stop leering at her sister. It's a miracle that Ruby didn't notice all of these happening.

That is also why Yang was so ecstatic about Ruby coming to Beacon. She didn't need to worry about those low-life bastards anymore. As long as Yang is there by her side, she wouldn't let any of that happen to her sister.

She will protect her.

It's her duty after all.

~xXxXx~

''Hey, over here! I saved you a spot!'' Ruby turns her head towards her sister found.

Here she is, just standing across the hall while waving her hand wildly like a loon.

Ruby shifts her head towards the blond male beside her. Tucking his blazer lightly, trying to get his attention.

''U-Um, Jaune? I think my sister is calling me.'' Ruby said, pointing her finger towards waves of students.

Jaune follows Ruby's finger, and then he sees her. As his eyes land upon the clear sight of the one and only Yang Xiao-Long, he subconsciously whispers to himself.

''Maybe they are siblings…''

He only caught glimpse of her earlier, and he could say that 'beauty' is not enough to describe the girl he was looking at right now.

'She's gorgeous..'

Jaune silently thought to himself.

Glancing at his side, Jaune takes a quick look at Ruby's face. Before again, looking back at the blond-haired beauty.

While Ruby is a pure definition of adorableness, his sisters' beauty is really something to behold.

Despite the upbeat aura emitting brightly from her, Jaune could see some aspect of maturity from her.

Unlike most of the students here, who he could see from their eyes, lots of naivete and just a bit of matureness.

To him, they look like children unprepared to what really comes, unprepared for the harsh training to be a huntsman/huntress, and unprepared with the possibility of even death.

Yet he could see a great fire within her eyes, burning so bright ready to turn anything in front of her into ash.

And then there is Ruby, an awkward, adorable girl with little to none social skill.

Despite her appearance of a harmless and cute little girl, he could see that the girl is no joke.

From the way she handle her scythe with such ease, where he doubts anyone can do it better, at least at her age.

Her speed and reflexes are something to praise also. Jaune can not wait for the opportunity to compare his strength against her.

While he is confident that he could win against almost all first-year students here, it would be nice to have strong opponents to fight with.

Jaune chuckles lightly.

A pair of sisters gifted with both beauty and skills? Their poor parents must have a hard time fending off hormonal boys trying to get the sisters' attention.

But, Jaune couldn't help but notice the stare Ruby's sister was sending him. It's like she analyzing him from afar.

He's not going to lie, he was a bit bothered by it.

''J-Jaune?''

Ruby's voice shook him out of his thoughts.

''I'm sorry, looks like I'm spacing out there'' Jaune answered.

''U-Um, my sister found me a spot there. Do you want to go together?'' Ruby said.

''Sure, why not?''

Ruby smiled hearing his answer, she leads him towards the direction of her sister.

And upon reaching her, Yang immediately latches onto her with a wide grin on her face.

''Hi Rubes, how is your first day? And I see you got a new handsome friend here.'' Yang's grin grew wider as she glanced to Jaune's direction.

''Hello there, the name is Jaune Arc, nice to meet you.'' Jaune offered her a polite smile, taking out his right hand forward.

''My name is Yang Xiao-Long, don't forget that ok?'' Yang took his hand, giving pressure into her shake.

Jaune raises his eyebrow, feeling pressure from her grip. Smirking a bit, he grips her hand a little bit harder, giving his own pressure to the shake. ''Such a strong grip, you must've trained a lot.''

Hearing his compliment though, a small frown etching on Yang's face. She was trying to intimidate him, giving him a message to not mess with her sister like she usually did with Ruby's pursuers back in Signal.

This guy in front of her did not even flinch with her grip. It blows her pride a lot, considering her strengths are of one the things she proud of the most. And being one of the strongest in Signal, most people would felt pain of at least flinch whenever they felt a bit of her strength. But this guy just takes it like it's nothing.

Now it actually makes her wonder just how strong the guy in front of her is.

'Not bad blondie.. but you're not off the hook yet…'

Her frown disappears as quickly as it appeared. ''Of course, I am! Wouldn't be here if I'm not, would I?''

''I guess so.''

Turning her head back to the direction of her sister, Yang asks. ''So back to you, how was your first day?''

''How was my first day? You mean when you ditched me and I almost exploded!?'' Ruby shouted.

''Yikes, meltdown already?''

''NO, I'm serious! If it's not because of Jaune, I would've blown away! Or worse yet, made an enemy on my first day of school!''

Yang raises her eyebrow, she took a glance at Jaune who just nods his head.

''It's true, she rammed herself into someone's dust container. Good thing the dust didn't leak. It could explode at them and blow them away.''

Yang blinked.

Her expression shows a slight of disbelief.

''I guess you're not lying, huh?'' Yang muttered under her breath. ''Sooo, are you okay?''

''Sigh…. I'm fine, I think.'' Ruby answered.

Nodding to herself, Yang turns her head towards Jaune again.

''So I guess I need to thank you. For saving my sister, I mean.'' Yang said to Jaune with a smile.

''Nah, it's fine. Everyone would've done the same.'' Jaune shrugged.

Smiling at him, a small cough from the school's intercom echoing around the building.

From the podium, two figure stands. A man and a woman, in specific. One of them, Ruby and Jaune could recognize. It's Professor Ozpin.

The headmaster of Beacon Academy.

Beside him, was considered as one of the strongest huntress of Vale, Glynda Goodwitch.

Their eyes can be seen scanning the students with keen eyes.

They see through each of the students, one by one, like searching for something important. Many feel uncomfortable and intimidated with the attention they're given right now.

Some even shifted their eyes, trying to look anywhere else than the figures standing on the podium.

While Jaune didn't share the same feeling as everyone else, he could tell that they are not people you want to mess with.

He could feel the oppressing aura just blanketing the students, screaming at the youngsters to always treat them with respect.

'What an aura! It's like their presence alone enough to make most of the students here scared shitless!'

Thought Jaune to himself, couldn't help but to feel awed.

''I'll...keep this brief.'' The man standing podium, Professor Ozpin started, his voice immediately silenced all the students. As they couldn't help but to hear closely on what the man has to say.

''You have traveled here today in search of knowledge-to hone your craft and acquire new skills. And when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people.''

Some of the students smiled at themselves, feeling that their acceptance to Beacon is one of a big achievement. In a sense, they are right, but Ozpin wasn't done.

''But I look amongst you and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose – direction.''

Like a switch, their expressions changed drastically. Some of them frowned, some even gritted their teeth hearing the pure disinterest coming from the headmaster's tone.

''You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far.''

''It is up to you to take the first step.''

With that, he stepped away from the mic and leave the podium.

As Ozpin step down, he took a glance towards where Jaune stands.

Their eyes met.

For whatever reason, Jaune could see a faint of anguish and sadness from Ozpin's eyes.

Jaune offers the headmaster a polite nod, which Ozpin just smiles lightly and nods back, before walking away.

Glynda's voice just went through him as Jaune kept staring at the disappearing figure of Ozpin.

'Why did he look at me like that? Did he know me?' Thought Jaune.

Jaune is sure he never met him before, so why the look?

With Ozpin completely out of sight, he began to realize that students have been scrambling away from the auditorium.

Ah, he got lost in his thought he failed to realize that the ceremony is over.

Hopefully, it doesn't happen when he was fighting. Losing focus is one of the biggest mistakes you could make in that situation anyway.

''Fyuh… Welcome to Beacon, Jaune.'' He said to himself.

''Welcome to Beacon…''

[1] : . I use this image for Jaune appearance minus the sword and few changes.

[2] : See what i did there? xD (okay, i'm sorry..)

Cookies if you could guess who's Jaune sisters are.

i mean it's a dead giveaway.

UPDATE 1 : Fix some grammar here and there, and for some reason the link for jaune's image keep disappearing. so i don't know what to do. but if you want to know the image just search Artstation's fanart for Jaune, he looks sick.

And that's it.

Hi guys, this is my first attempt at making full English fic. Trying to have fun writing while trying to better my grammar.

Like I said above, English is my third language. So please excuse my horrible, horrible grammar. Of course, I'm going to do my best to make chapters with grammar mistakes as minimum as possible, but please excuse me if some of them are still horribly wrong.

The casts going to be bit out of character, but I'll try to keep most of their personality the same, with the exception of Jaune who'll get a different shift personality but still have the goofiness, and still being the dork we all know and love.

I will update as soon as I can, considering I'm still taking an exam right now. So if I'm not updating soon, then I'm still struggling to keep sane doing my exam.

Btw, AK players here gonna pull on mountain banner? I think I'm gonna skip it. Have to pull my exusiai first on rate-up banner.

Well then, see ya!
