Chapter 2:

Jason, despite having scared the entire Fifth Cohort, managed to convince them that he was fine. While some of the older Legionnaires glared at him for disturbing their sleep, his centurion, Marcus, stuck close to him. "Are you sure you're alright? I know some demigods have bad dreams, but a dream has never sent someone into a state of such hysteria." Jason didn't know how to explain. "I don't know what happened, but I'm fine. I can't remember anything." Marcus raised an eyebrow, but didn't comment on it. "Alright, but no training for you tomorrow. I want you to rest and recuperate." Jason opened his mouth to argue, but upon seeing the hard look in his superior's eyes, he nodded reluctantly.

As Marcus finally left him to get some sleep, Jason began to think. He was in the past, probably in the body of his younger self if his small hands said anything about it. But what happened, and why didn't he remember any of it? Time travel doesn't just happen for no reason. Deciding he wasn't going to get any answers about that, he decided to focus on what he could do since he was in the past. He didn't know how long this would last, so maybe he could start preparing the Legion for war against Saturn and eventually Gaea. Not to mention start whispering in the Romans ears that the Greeks are not their enemies. No one wanted a repeat of the attack on New Rome, or the cross-country chase that followed. And perhaps most importantly, make sure Octavian never gets the power he craves. Jason had already seen the outcome of the man's ambition, and the price that others had to pay to get him there. Frank had told him of his suspicions that Octavian had attempted to kill Gwen, a fellow Centurion. Only Death's imprisonment had saved the girl from an awful fate.

Jason continued to make plans until he was out of ideas. He wanted to topple Saturn before the Titan had a proper fighting force. He wanted to make sure Reyna was okay when she came to Camp Jupiter. He wanted to find Piper, but he knew they were both too young to enter a mature and lasting relationship right now. He may be older than he appeared, but she wasn't. She didn't know enough about herself at this age to contemplate a lasting relationship with the Son of Jupiter. Deciding he wasn't doing himself much good obsessing about things, he finally went to sleep.

In the morning, after his fellow Legionnaires left the barracks to eat breakfast and train, Jason snuck out through the window. After making sure no one was around, Jason made his way over to the Field of Mars to train by himself. He needed to make sure that his powers worked and to what extent. He decided to start with small things, testing his control over the wind by picking up nearby rocks with it. Soon after he decided to test his ability to fly, but only went up a few feet so that he didn't draw attention to himself. After all, Jason had been older the first time before he learned about this ability. Jason tried to think about how he could test his storm making ability without anyone noticing when he had an idea. It wasn't exactly useful for battle, but what if he could make a small storm that hovers over his hand? It would both test his powers and help improve his control over them. Jason concentrated on his hand, willing the air above it to condense and form storm clouds. Seeing the dark cloud forming over his hand, Jason internally cheered. Now he tried to add lightning. Seeing a flash of blue light, Jason smiled. Okay, so his powers were working just fine, thank the gods. As Jason continued to maintain the storm, he noticed something a little different about his powers. His power had always been comparable to a vast ocean, but now it seemed as if his capacity had increased. Usually, Jason could only maintain a storm for a little while before becoming exhausted. But something told him that his stamina had increased tenfold. He decided to test that theory out, manipulating the storm to grow and shrink at random, and seeing how long he lasted. It wasn't until an hour later he noticed the fatigue and stopped to congratulate himself. Now he knew where he was and could move forward secure in his knowledge and power.

Jason was about to head back to the barracks before he noticed a cloud of mist forming nearby. An Iris-message? How? As the face of a young Son of Poseidon appeared, Jason was speechless. "Jason? Do you remember me?" At the blonde's hesitant nod, Percy's face crumbled in relief. "Good. I was so afraid I'd gotten it wrong when I saw you." Jason finally broke free from his shock. "Percy? What's happening?" Percy gave the blonde an understanding look before explaining what had happened to them. The news that the Fates had intervened shook the Son of Jupiter. The news that it was just the two of them made him nervous, but to know that it was someone he knew and respected made him feel better. Especially since it could have just been one of them. As Jason processed what he had been told, he noticed something he probably should have before. "Percy! Why are you Iris-messaging? We need to keep this quiet and Iris is capable of listening into our conversation!" Percy grinned before answering. "Oh, Iris isn't handling this message. During my quest to Alaska, we met Iris and her assistant, Fleecy, who's able to connect her own messages. She might be confused as to why a Greek demigod is contacting a Roman, but she doesn't have Iris' power to listen in. That's if she even noticed me contacting you and didn't just connect us. And how exactly did you expect me to get in contact with you? Neither of us have phones, I don't have access to any magical means besides the drachmas Grover has, and you didn't know to contact me. If you can get some of those Roman Eagles to send messages, we can nick this until we can make another arrangement. But that can be months from now when I finally get to Camp." That's when Jason noticed Percy's background and saw what looked like a bathroom. "If you're not at Camp, where are you?" Percy grimaced. "At one of my old schools. Yancy Academy. This is where Grover and Chiron found me before they took me to Camp. In fact, I just faced my first monster again yesterday. The Fury, Alecto. She was my math teacher, Mrs. Dodds. I gave a little demonstration of my powers on a field trip and she tried to kill me. Luckily, Chiron gave me Riptide just in time." Percy lifted his pen-sword for emphasis. "He let you keep that?" Percy shrugged. "I didn't really give him a chance to take it. Whenever I talked to him, I never had it out. He can't take something that he has no evidence is in my possession."

Their conversation was cut short when shouts were heard coming over the Field of Mars. Jason turned back to Percy and quickly explained. "I have to go. They must have noticed I'm missing. I'll send an eagle your way soon to keep in contact. I'll talk to you later." With those words, Jason swiped a hand through the mist just in time as four members of the Fifth Cohort came over the hill and noticed him. Calling for their centurion, they raced down to the Son of Jupiter. Concerned shouts sprouted from each of the members of the search party before Marcus pushed past them to examine his missing Legionnaire. After seeing Jason was fine, he glared at the kid. "What do you think you were doing? I told you, no training. You shouldn't have left the barracks without telling someone." Jason frowned at the older teen. "So just because I have a bad dream, I can't be trusted to be out and about? How did you come to that conclusion?" Marcus glared at the outraged look on Jason's face. "Don't pull that attitude with me, Grace. What were you doing out here?" Jason paused at his centurion's tone. Deciding the truth was okay to give, Jason answered, "I was training my powers a little. You wanted me to rest, but I'm fine. I don't need to be coddled just because I had one bad dream." Marcus looked at the younger boy, trying to find any hint of deception. Finding none, he sighed and gestured for the group to head back. "Fine. I'll let you off with a warning this time. Next time, you'll end up on stable duty with the probatios." Jason glared, but nodded in acquiescence.

The group from the Fifth Cohort walked silently back to the barracks, tension filling the air. When they got back, Jason immediately returned to his bunk and began to straighten it, mind whirling with new ideas and plans now that Percy had contacted him. He needed to send an eagle right away. But first he needed to make sure no one bothered him when he set the message. After thinking of a legitimate excuse, Jason walked over to Marcus. "Hey Marcus, I totally forgot that I need to deliver a message to the Principia." Marcus gave him a look, but nodded in acceptance. Jason smiled and grabbed some paper and a pen before leaving the barracks. As Jason approached the Principia, he came to a realization. The eagles were an integral part of the Legion, and while campers were allowed to use them to send messages to family outside Camp, it would be suspicious of him to do so. As far as anyone knew he was an orphan. Not to mention campers couldn't do this very often. The eagles were needed here. But maybe one message would be okay. He approached the mail room and quickly wrote a letter for Percy, being sure to highlight their most pressing concerns for both their safeties. Flagging down an eagle, he strapped the letter to their leg and told them the location of Percy Jackson. Watching the eagle fly away, Jason was left with a feeling that things were going to be okay.

After Jason ended the Iris-message, Percy decided to get back to his homework. It was surprisingly easy, probably because he has technically done this before. Homework, especially ones he'd done years ago, would usually be the last thing on his mind, but he couldn't do much in his current situation. He was twelve again, acting like he had no idea of his heritage and powers. Not to mention he was in a public space. He wasn't at Camp, where he could find a secluded space to train. He was at school, where Grover and Chiron were able to watch his every move. While he appreciated the concern they showed to an unclaimed demigod, he felt stifled. He was a powerful demigod that had gone up and defeated Titans. He didn't need two babysitters watching his every move. And talk about me behind my back, Percy thought, glancing at the clock. Grover had gone to meet with Chiron a little while ago, no doubt talking about his display at the museum. He would probably be back soon, so Percy decided to get back to work.

Grover made his way back to the dorm in deep thought. His meeting with Chiron had only given them more questions. Percy's scent had changed the morning of the field trip, becoming so powerful Chiron had considered taking him to camp instead of the museum. But how was this possible? Even if he knew the truth of his heritage, his scent wouldn't have changed this drastically. His scent was now more powerful than any of the other demigods at camp. Even Chiron didn't know what to make of this. Not many demigods had Percy's aura of power, not even the children of the Big Three Chiron has trained in the past. While they had suspected that Percy was a Son of Poseidon, his explosion of power with the fountain just about confirmed it.

Deciding that he would only get answers to his questions if he observed Percy closely, Grover hurried the last few yards to their dorm. Upon seeing Percy doing homework on his bed, Grover stopped dead in his tracks. Percy was doing homework again, instead of procrastinating like he usually does. While most people would see this as a good thing, having been Percy's dorm mate for a semester had clued Grover into Percy's habits and idealisms. Percy hated homework with a passion, either waiting until the last minute to complete it or not doing it at all. So to watch as the young demigod breezed through several questions on his English homework came as a big surprise. Especially considering Percy's dyslexia. Grover decided to try a nonchalant approach. "Hey, how's it going?" Percy looked up from his work. "Good. Just trying to finish this up before bed. How was your meeting with Mr. Brunner?" Percy asked. "Good, good. I just needed some help with remembering the conjugations of Latin verbs. I don't really know why we need to know this stuff. Sure it looks good on certain applications, but this is a school for troubled kids. We probably won't have any of the opportunities the rich kids here will have. Are you having any trouble with it? It's still fresh in my mind if you need any help." Percy shook his head. "Nah, I already finished it. I'm just finishing up this assignment, then I'll head to bed." Grover nodded and went to the bathroom to change for bed.

When he emerged from the bathroom, he noticed that Percy had already fallen asleep, snoring a little from exhaustion. Grover decided to do a little of his own homework before he went to sleep. He was almost done and about to follow his friend's lead and get some sleep when he noticed that Percy's sleep was anything but peaceful. He was beginning to sweat and move in his sleep. His mouth began to shout in a combination of Latin and Greek, moving too fast for Grover to translate more than a few words which made no sense. Fleece. Hunters. Ethan. New York. Grover dove toward the struggling demigod, shaking him awake. Percy awoke with a start, breathing hard and looking at Grover in confusion. They stayed in silence for a few moments before Grover felt comfortable asking a question. "Are you alright? What just happened?" Percy was silent for a few moments longer before answering. "I don't know. I dreamed of shadows, voices speaking to me. Did I do something weird?" Grover looked at his friend in shock, unable to describe the events that had just happened. He would have to tell Chiron tomorrow, but for now he would lie. "You were just tossing and turning really bad. Are you sure you don't remember anything?" Percy turned his head, faking embarrassment. "No, I'm fine." Grover backed off, sensing that his friend was embarrassed by his concern and presumed weakness. "Okay. I'm going to bed then." Grover walked over to his bed and noticed Percy was laying down too, but something told the satyr that sleep would not be coming for the young demigod.

When Grover finally fell asleep, Percy got out of bed and left the room. He made his way outside, making sure to dodge campus security and avoid the security cameras. After he finally escaped, Percy made his way to a nearby creek in the surrounding forest. He submerged himself in the water, feeling the energy it granted him. He finally relaxed after his dream. His dreams had been a replay of his life as a demigod. Monsters and quests so old he had forgotten some of the details of the events. He supposed this was the Fates way of making sure he changed things. After all, he couldn't change what he couldn't remember. But now it felt as if all those events had happened all over again. All Percy wanted to do was kneel over and mourn the losses he had suffered, but the knowledge that these people were still alive helped him control himself.

Percy had been in the creek an hour before he noticed the shadow of a giant eagle flying overhead. He quickly stood up and whistled for the bird. The eagle, seeing the young demigod, flew down and landed on a nearby tree. Percy approached the bird and took the message from its leg. He opened it to see the letter from one Jason Grace.

Percy,

It is so good to know that I am not alone in our endeavor to change things. I know we haven't known each other long, but I couldn't have asked for a better friend to work with on this. Although I am a little confused on why they sent us so far back. I'm 11 again, and our war with Saturn didn't start for at least another year, when he began to recruit some of the Legion. Is this something that has to do with you? Let me know when you send the eagle back. And can we negotiate our communication methods? The current praetors will eventually take notice that I'm using the giant eagles more frequently. We can't keep this up forever. And we need to stay in contact so that we can coordinate our plans. I'll think of some things and you can share your ideas when you respond.

Right now I am going to start working on preparing the Legion for war with Saturn. We'll need everyone we have to fight the Titan Lord. I'm also going to start trying to limit the power Octavian wields, although that's going to be harder since I am in no position of authority. He needs to be stopped before he has the power of the Legion behind him. His presence stirred up the resentment of the Romans until they were baying for blood. But with him out of the picture, we have a chance at true peace. At least as long as Leo doesn't try to shoot anyone again! I know we have a lot more to discuss, and please let me know if you have others in your response. But until we can find another method of communication, our use of the eagles will have to be limited.

Jason

After he finished the letter, Percy leaned against a tree in thought. That's right. The Legion did help in the war against Kronos, just not in any role the Camp knew about. And he's right about Octavian. He holds too much sway with the Romans to be allowed in a position of authority when the Greeks come. He could unravel the peace we are working towards by lying to the Legion about our intentions. Percy thought about everything in the message, trying to work out a solution to their problems. Their communication methods were the most pressing because no plans could be made without talking to each other first. As Percy thought about it, he absently started using his powers to play with the water. He watched as he created a ball of water and moved it swiftly through the air. Watching it move, an idea started to form. He walked closer to the creek and knelt by the water. Raising both his hands, he concentrated on Jason, willing his powers to find him. At first nothing happened, but after a few more minutes of concentrating, the water began to change to where he could see a sleeping blonde in the bunk's of Camp Jupiter. Percy released his hold and sighed in relief as the image disappeared. One problem down, a couple dozen to go, he thought.

Percy was going to continue planning, but was hit with the sudden feeling of tiredness. He'd been up all day and had gotten only an hour's sleep earlier. Deciding to get some rest, he walked back to the eagle and commanded it to return to Camp Jupiter. He'd let Jason know about his powers later. He walked back to campus, once again making sure to avoid the school's security, not noticing the figure watching him from the window a few floors up.

Chiron watched the young half-blood closely, looking for any sign of significant changes to the boy. Percy's recent scent change had immediately been noticed by the ancient centaur. The reason behind the change still eluded him, however. He'd just have to watch the boy even closer now.

The next day, Percy was up early and decided to try and contact Jason around noon, since he was three hours ahead of San Francisco. He went ahead and got ready for the day, and walked out to join the other students for breakfast. He got his food and made his way to the furthest corner of the lunch room. Thankfully, Grover was already there and had saved him a seat. They ate and talked about the day's activities. Since it was a weekend, the school was more lenient about how they spent their time today. Grover was going to study in Mr. Brunner's classroom. Percy interpreted that as they were going to talk about him more. Percy decided to spend the day at the pool and wait until he could talk to Jason. As his self appointed meet time drew closer, Percy began to think of excuses to ditch his classmates and make his way to his dorm when his classmates solved that problem for him. He watched as a girl kicked a guy in the privates and the guy lost control of his bladder. The water turned a bright blue around him, causing kids to panic and climb out as teachers swarmed the room to help.

Percy made it to his room before laughing at the guy's misfortune and making his way to the bathroom. He plugged the drain and filled the sink with water. Percy focused on Jason and called forth an image of the blonde in the armory, seemingly taking inventory. "Jason!" The blonde whipped around at the harsh whisper, unable to find the owner of the voice. "Jason, it's me, Percy." Jason still couldn't see him. "Percy? Where are you? How are you doing this?" Percy replied, "I'm still in New York. I'm using water to find and communicate with you. If you could find a small body of water, I might be able to make it so you can see me. Head to the Little Tiber." Percy saw Jason nod and walk out the armory.

Jason walked to the Camp's border, nodding at his fellow campers in greeting before finally making his way to a secluded section of the river. He had just leaned his head over the edge when an image of Percy made itself known. "Alright, that is really cool. I didn't know you could do that!" Percy shrugged. "I didn't either. Ever since we came back, I feel so much stronger and in control of my powers." Jason interrupted him. "Me too. Do you think it has something to do with our future consciousness merging with our past bodies?" Percy gave the idea some thought. "Probably. I don't know. But it's the most probable explanation for what's happened. Anyway, how are things going over there?" Jason gave the older boy a look. "Percy, it's been two days. And besides giving my centurion a heart attack, I haven't done much. I may be the Son of Jupiter, but I'm not a praetor yet. The most I can do is pray to Apollo that Octavian doesn't become the arugur. And he may not heed my prayers. I need to find some way to discredit his ability to divine the future. And that's not going to be easy considering he actually does have the sight."

"Maybe you can arrange an accident to get him thrown out of Camp? It's a little harsh, but it could work." Jason considered it for a moment. "I'll table that for now. What about you? Made any plans yet?" Percy shook his head. "Not really. I'm still in school and Chiron and Grover won't move me unless I'm in imminent danger. I'm trying to come up with a plan for when I get to Camo, but I'm stumped. Do you know much about our side of the Titan War?" Jason nodded. "Annabeth told me, Piper, and Leo about it while we constructed the Argo II. Her friend Luke became the host for Saturn?" Percy nodded. "Luke was so angry with the gods he listened to Kronos. He thought by overthrowing our parents, a new age could be formed. His anger blinded him to the fact he was a puppet to Kronos' plans. But if I can stop him, I may be able to prevent the Titan War from ever happening." Jason gave him a skeptical look. "And how are you going to do that?" A defeated look crossed Percy's face. "I have no idea."

The two continued talking until Percy heard Grover return to the room and quickly said their goodbyes and scheduled their next talk for the next week. Percy walked out the bathroom as Grover was putting his things on his bed. "How was your study session?" Percy asked. "Fine. How was the pool? I passed it on the way here and noticed it was empty." Percy proceeded to tell him the story about what happened earlier to their classmate. Neither knew of the conversation being held between two immortal half-brothers.

Chiron had Iris-messaged Poseidon as soon as Grover had left his office. Their conversation had left them more questions than answers, so Chiron decided to find some. As soon as Poseidon's image formed in the mist, Chiron asked his most important question. "Are you out of your mind?" Poseidon gave the teacher an amused look. "What are you talking about?" Chiron leveled him with a look. "Percy Jackson. Sound familiar?" Chiron had never seen a god pale before, until now. "How do you know about him?" Chiron sighed. "One of our satyr's found him and informed me. We've contacted his mother and let her know we're watching him, but I almost didn't even need her to tell me who his father was. He's the spitting image of you. What he did two days ago just confirmed it to me." Poseidon gave him a confused look. "What did he do?" Chiron smiled. "He caused a fountain to explode during a trip to the museum and then successfully fought and killed a Fury. Hades' servants know he exists and he probably does by now as well. You broke the sacred oath. He won't let this transgression go unpunished." Poseidon shook his head. "I know. I'll deal with it when the time comes." Pride suddenly broke through the god's solemn expression. "He defeated a Fury?"

"Poseidon!" Poseidon gave Chiron a sheepish expression. "Sorry! But you know how rare it is for a hero to defeat one of them. And without any training? You have to admit that's really impressive." Chiron smiled slightly. "Yes, it is. Actually, have you been watching over him recently?" Poseidon frowned. "I watch over him periodically, but it's been a few weeks since I saw him last. Why? Has something happened?" Chiron gave him a solemn look. "I don't know. The day of the museum trip, his scent suddenly spiked. The stench of his stepfather has protected him from monsters, but now he reeks of power. If I didn't know he was your son and half-human, I would think he was a god in disguise. Power radiates off him in waves, although it's died down since then. We'll keep watching him, but be prepared to step in if you have to. Something tells me he's important to future events." Poseidon nodded. "I will. Thank you for notifying me. I appreciate you coming to me before my brother." Chiron shook his head. "No thanks necessary. Percy's a good kid. He doesn't deserve Zeus' animosity so soon." Chiron swiped his hand through the mist.

After Chion ended the Iris-message, Poseidon was deep in thought. His son was coming into his power, which would eventually come to his brother's attention. Not the best time, especially with the recent theft of the Master Bolt. His son would be blamed for it if he was claimed. Claiming his son was even more a last resort than it already was. But perhaps he could start laying the groundwork by preparing his family for their new addition. With a sigh, Poseidon called for a servant to summon his wife and heir. This wasn't a conversation he was looking forward to.

A/N: I own nothing. Hope you enjoy this chapter! Like I said, updates would be sporadic! Please be patient with me. Until next time.
