Hey everyone, I'm sorry for the super long wait, again. I've been updating other stuff and going through bits of writer's block, plus a lot of personal stuff happening in real life. It's better now though, and I hope this chapter makes up for it until the next one.

In here Korra takes Kuvira to meet Tenzin's family, and of course Asami goes too. Kuvira gets to meet the kids and we see how she handles them. We also see Korra partly explain a difficult memory, and it gets our girls a little 'closer.'

Read along to find out.

I don't own Legend of Korra.

Enjoy!

Korra tried to steady her nerves as the evening came upon them faster than she'd have liked. She didn't know why she was so nervous; it was just a dinner with Tenzin's family and she'd been to plenty of those. Asami was going too, and the group would be kind to Kuvira it wasn't as if they were total strangers…oh wait, the kids were.

She figured her nerves were thanks to worry about Kuvira, and she didn't dare say so around the omega. Kuvira wanted to go out, she wanted to see more of the city, and Korra didn't want her feeling trapped anymore than she already did so, she kept quiet. Asami came by after a small meeting with the board to help them get ready, and it wasn't a fancy thing, just helping Kuvira pick out some decent clothes to wear, boost her confidence and all.

Kuvira didn't say anything, but she obviously had some misgivings about her body. She was beautiful though, narrow, hourglass hips, full chest, muscle-tone, sharp chin, pretty eyes and nicely shaped brows, but Korra could somewhat understand. Being trapped by the queen for so long had done much to her mind, yet she was still sharp as a knife.

Korra had on her usual watertribe outfit, but she did put on a little makeup for tonight and did her hair up in her usual ceremonial style. Asami from what she knew was wearing a simple red and brown suit, casual but elegant, and Kuvira…well she didn't know what Kuvira would wear because she'd been kicked out of the room for her to change.

"Korra? Are you ready?" Asami's voice came from the other side of her bedroom door.

"Yeah, I'm coming." One last look and off she went; giving Naga a quick pet on the head, the polar bear dog would be staying behind tonight, she went out to the hall where the girls were waiting. Asami wore her suit with her hair pulled back in her usual low ponytail style, and Kuvira…Korra about dropped when she saw her mate. Asami had worked some magic on her, she had on a casual, short-sleeved, long green dress with gold flowers embroidered on the front and back, and simple black shoes with gold heels; her hair was long, curled but pinned back away from her face, and she had very little makeup. She looked very relaxed; Korra would add this to her 'thank Asami' list later.

"Like it Korra?" Korra's stare broke when Asami spoke. "I tried to go simple but elegant, Kuvira wanted to dress up a bit but not go overboard."

"I…It looks great, you did great Sams." Asami smiled.

"Nice to know I still have the magic touch, so let's get going we don't want to miss the ferry."

"Yeah...yeah let's go."

'Spirits she looks so pretty…' Korra tried to stop staring but almost couldn't, Kuvira acted as if it didn't bother her. No one spoke as they got into Asami's car, and when they arrived at the dock they stayed quiet and Korra forced herself to watch the moon on the surface instead of her mate.

"This is really nice…" Korra about jumped from her skin when Kuvira suddenly appeared next to her.

"Whoa!" the omega gave a small smirk.

"Jumpy are we?" Korra took a few breaths before regaining her composure, at least until she felt her cheeks slightly burn.

"You snuck up on me, don't do that." She huffed and Kuvira chuckled.

"Hey, it was worth it for that reaction alone." She covered her mouth.

"I'm glad my jump made you happy." Korra had slight sarcasm in her tone but to hear her mate laugh like that, it was good to see.

"So tell me, what about these 'rambunctious' children of Tenzin and Pema's?" Korra turned back to her.

"Well, the eldest one is Jinora, she's an air master already and she's probably the youngest to receive it since Aang. She's smart and nice, but she is a bit bookish and a bit bossy, but nothing too bad. She also has a boyfriend, Kai, and if you see him he's very sweet with her."

"Ok so the eldest is a good girl, what about the others?"

"Ikki is the middle child, she's a sweetheart but she's got this hyperactive personality that just grates your nerves at times. She means well, but she's a bit blabby, and she plays 100 questions with you; and no, I don't mean 20 questions I mean 100. Granted she's gotten better since she was little, but still, and she gets frustrated easily especially with Meelo and Jinora."

"An airbender with a small temper and a big mouth."

"Yep, but she grows on you after a while. Now Meelo…" Korra took a breath. "He's a good kid, but he literally thinks himself as a man in a kid's body, he likes to take charge and insinuate that he knows best because he's a boy. He has a nice side to him, but he bickers a lot with the girls."

"Overconfident?" Korra nodded.

"He's also gassy, it's not really his fault but don't take offense if he accidentally lets one loose."

"No problem, and the last one?"

"Rohan, he's only three so a personality isn't clear right now, but he's a cutie around women. All the female acolytes love him, and so far he's the 'favorite' brother."

"So basically the only two I need to worry about are Ikki and Meelo?"

"Yeah, but like I said they're not bad, just overly energetic children."

"I think I'll manage, kids are hyper as hell no matter who they are."

"True, I was a real terror to my parents, even before I was discovered as the avatar." Korra laughed. "I can't tell you how many times I destroyed the house, especially before I had Naga."

"You were a monster, but you were young."

"Still am, but I'm better now." Korra sighed. "Oh, that's it there." Korra pointed ahead, and Kuvira saw the island in the distance. "Aang actually built that place, and he had help, but that's where he raised his family."

"He sounds like a good man."

"From what I know he was, he had faults like everyone, but yeah he was a good man."

"Don't you have a connection with your past lives?" Korra's face clouded slightly.

"I do, it's just I don't speak with them often, even in extreme times of duress."

"Why?" Korra held up her hand.

"I can't talk about it, and it's not that I don't want to, I just can't." Kuvira didn't argue, and they were quiet again right up until the boat docked. Tenzin's entire family was there to greet them, Ikki was bouncing in her spot while the others seemed somewhat calmer. After they disembarked the boat, Korra was greeted by the children with their usual group hug all around her. Rohan lagged behind, his cheeks were tinted pink when he saw Kuvira.

"Korra! We've missed you where have you been?!" Ikki started on her.

"I've been busy Ikki, I'm sorry I haven't been around lately." She hugged the active child, and then gave Jinora and Meelo another hug. "You all look great, Meelo I think you've grown an inch." She knew he hadn't grown since the last time, but the boy loved compliments.

"I have, I'm a big man now!" he flexed his arm muscles and puffed out his chest and cheeks, making Korra chuckle.

"Hey Jinora, how's training the new recruits coming along?"

"Great, we have a few others coming in a couple of days."

"Oh really? Where from?"

"Can't say, dad said it's a big secret slash surprise, he's been pretty tight-lipped about it." She whispered the last bit.

"Ah, well say no more." Korra made a zipper impression on her mouth. "Rohan, it's ok buddy come here." Rohan gave a sweet smile and ran into Korra's open arms. His small arms wrapped around her neck in a squeeze, but not too tightly. "You're getting so big little man, but you're still so cute." She kissed his head, and he buried his face in her neck.

"It's really great to see you Korra, we've missed having you over." Pema smiled and turned her attention to Asami and Kuvira. "Girls, you look beautiful." They bowed slightly.

"Thank you Pema."

"Wait…who is this lady?" Meelo pointed at Kuvira. "I've never seen you, and you look suspicious." He gave her what he probably thought was an intimidating stare, but the older woman couldn't help but smirk.

"Meelo don't be rude." Tenzin scolded him as he approached. "You look nice tonight Kuvira, I'm glad to see you out and about."

"I'm glad to be out and about but thank you. Your home looks nice."

"My mother helped out with that; my father didn't have too much of a sense of style." He smiled. "Now why don't we all head inside, the food is ready and prepared for you."

"Food sounds great." Asami patted her stomach which gave off a low rumble, and everyone laughed. Tenzin led everyone inside to the main dining area, and a table was all set up with delicious food. When they all sat, Korra took a moment to clear her throat.

"Guys, before we eat I'd like to properly introduce you all to our guest." She motioned to Kuvira. "This is Kuvira, she's…my mate." The kids' eyes and mouths went wide.

"Your mate?" Ikki stared at Kuvira with admiration. "She's very pretty, oh I'm sorry I mean you are very pretty." Kuvira smiled.

"Thank you, you're Ikki right?"

"I am, hey how long have you been here? Did you meet Korra somewhere? Was it romantic? Did you go on a date yet? Have you mated yet?" Jinora clapped a hand over Ikki's mouth.

"Ikki, that's inappropriate to ask them!" she hissed. "Sorry, she gets a little carried away sometimes. I'm Jinora."

"Nice to meet you Jinora, and it's ok, being curious isn't a crime."

"Pretty lady…" Rohan's small voice spoke up, he waved at Kuvira and she waved back.

"You're a cutie aren't you?" he giggled at being called cute, hiding his face in Pema's sleeve. "He's so sweet, Rohan?" Pema nodded.

"I'm Meelo, the man of the house when Dad's not around." A small boy with brown hair puffed up his chest up with pride.

"Meelo, don't boast." Tenzin sighed. "Either way welcome to our home Kuvira, now let's all dig in I can still hear Asami's stomach grumbling." Everyone laughed before they started filling their plates. As the group began to ask Kuvira the simple questions, Korra started chatting with Asami about the latest updates with Future Industries' new machines, something to do with renovating the buildings overrun by the vines, that could probably help with reconstruction without disturbing the spirits. Korra promised she would investigate it, but spirits were tricky creatures.

"So, Kuvira, how did you come to Republic City?" Ikki asked the question, and Kuvira looked a little uncomfortable.

"You don't need to…" Kuvira stopped Korra with her pointer finger raised.

"It's fine." She stopped her again. "I traveled from the earth kingdom, from Ba Sing Se, but I got lost and ran out of money so I ended up on the streets for a while." That almost blew Korra away, she knew Kuvira didn't want to give the full details of her time in the queen's dungeons, but this was a little unexpected.

"Oh, how did you meet Korra?" Kuvira got a thoughtful look in her eyes.

"I don't really know how, just that one night I was walking through the area and collapsed, when I came to Korra had found me and took me in."

"That was sweet of her." Korra smiled at Kuvira.

"Well, I couldn't just leave her there, she was a mess too I had to get Kya to help me."

"Aunt Kya? Why didn't she tell us?"

"She was busy, and I did ask her to keep quiet, you know with the press and all." Ikki seemed to understand.

"Oh, but how did you know you were mates?" Korra jumped in.

"I just could, sometimes that's how it works Ikki." She was too young to fully understand, but no doubt Pema would be giving her 'the talk' soon after this. "Kuvira was sick and worn down when I found her, so I did what I could to heal her and Asami and Kya helped me."

"Our girl the hero." Pema giggled. "It's good to see you're doing well though dear, you look much healthier since the last time I saw you."

"Thank you." Kuvira nodded. "I'm actually doing better thanks to Korra and Asami, and Naga, that dog is just too sweet to not love."

"Oh yes she is, the kids adore her as much as the bison around here."

"Oh speaking of the bison, would you like to visit the stables?" Ikki bounced so hard the table shook a little.

"Ikki, it's already dark out and the bison are likely asleep, you know you shouldn't disturb them." Jinora pointed out and Ikki frowned.

"Awwee, I was hoping to let her meet Blueberry Spicehead, she's always up to seeing people."

"Well, she can wait, even if she wanted to meet Kuvira there's no sense in getting the others worked up."

"Yes daddy." She sighed and Kuvira's eyes softened a bit.

"Don't feel bad Ikki, I'd love to meet your bison someday." That seemed to brighten the girl's mood.

"Great, I'll introduce you, but she's a bit on the snuggly side so if she tries to knock you over it just means she likes you."

"Good to know." Kuvira winked. More questions came their way but nothing was too personal or uncomfortable after that first one, though during the entire meal Meelo kept giving Kuvira odd looks.

"Meelo? Is there something wrong?" Korra addressed him and the boy crossed his arms over his chest.

"I don't know about this one, how do we know she's not a spy for the earth queen?" he stared hard at the green-eyed woman. Tenzin set his cup down firmly and gave him a stern glare.

"Meelo, stop it, Kuvira is not with the queen and while we all appreciate your caution, you need to stop thinking everyone who walks through the door is a spy."

"But dad what if she is? What if she hurts Korra like the last one?" gasps went all around the table.

"Last one…?" Kuvira looked at Korra who shook her head.

"Meelo! We told you not to bring that up!" Pema scolded him. "Take your plate and go eat in the kitchen."

"But mom…"

"Now Meelo, and don't look to your dad he agrees with me." Meelo looked at everyone, even Korra, who shook her head. The boy just groaned in frustration and left, mumbling under his breath; he could be such a hothead at times, but while Korra appreciated the concern, she didn't want THAT to come out tonight.

"I'm sorry girls." Pema sighed. "Meelo is a good kid but he can be so brash at times."

"It's ok Pema." Kuvira didn't seem to be angry about the kid's outburst.

"Meelo is in that phase where he believes he's grown enough to mouth off, I swear even Bumi wasn't this difficult."

"Kya did say he's a lot like your uncle Sokka, at least that's how Katara described him before they met Aang."

"Yes but even Uncle Sokka wasn't like this." Tenzin sighed.

"Cut him some slack dad, Meelo's nine, and he…you know how things were before…" Jinora trailed off, glancing at Korra.

"Guys…" Korra set her chopsticks down. "It…" she rubbed her eyes. "I'm sorry, I need some air." Korra stood up and left the area, ignoring her name being called by Asami and Tenzin. She made it to the gazebo, closest to the sea, put her hands on the rails and took a few deep breaths. Why did Meelo have to be like that? He's a nine-year-old boy, he shouldn't meddle, hell did he even know what it meant to meddle? She loved the boy like a brother, but dammit, his mouth!

"Are you alright?" Korra about jumped out of her skin when she heard Kuvira's voice behind her. "Sorry, didn't mean to spook you." Korra put her hand on her chest and breathed in and out a few times.

"No, no it's ok, it's…I'm sorry. This wasn't supposed to happen."

"I can tell, but it's fine, I don't think the kid meant any harm."

"I know he didn't, but sometimes…oh he irritates me, so much like a brother would."

"He obviously cares, but he's still a kid." Kuvira came and stood beside her. "This is a nice view." Korra looked back out at the sea.

"It is, I used to come out here a lot when I trained with Tenzin. If I got angry or frustrated I just had to get away, and I'd come here. The breeze, the smell of the ocean, it helps me calm down."

"Reminds you of home?" Korra nodded.

"On the days I got to go outside the compound, Naga and I would find a spot on the cliff and sit there to watch the waves, if there were any."

"Ok, and don't feel bad about what happened back there, it doesn't bother me."

"Yeah well, I'm sorry you had to witness that." Korra leaned against the post. "Meelo means well, he just…ever since…"

"You don't need to tell me about it."

"No, no I might as well because I can't explain away…that." She motioned back to the temple. "You know how the White Lotus was before?" Kuvira nodded. "Well, before I met you, they tried to set me up with several other omegas, and none of them worked out. Most of them were nice, but we had no connection, and few of them were gold diggers hoping to hook up with the avatar, make powerful pups, all that garbage."

"Yeah…" Kuvira waited for her to continue.

"The worst of them all, was a woman named Ginger." She said the name with a snarl. "She was supposedly the perfect mate for me, she came from a good northern tribe family, she had looks, some intelligence, and apparently she was good-hearted, and I was stupid enough to give her a chance." Korra ran her hands through her hair.

"Did you court her?"

"I did, but again, it was a mistake." Korra clenched her fists. "She…" she gulped.

"Don't talk about it if you don't want to, you respect that about me, and I can do the same for you." Kuvira touched her shoulder.

"You should…"

"I don't need to know, it's your choice on if you tell me or not." Korra took another breath.

"Another long story short, she was nothing like they said. Yes she was beautiful, and elegant, but she's greedy, vain, and conceited, nothing I would want in a mate. The date was awful, and the next day…after it all…I put my foot down and told the White Lotus to never pick mates for me again." She clenched her fists so hard they started to hurt, Kuvira's hand on her shoulder slid down her arm, and to her own surprise, wrapped her other arm around Korra's back.

'What's going on?' Kuvira was holding her? Not that Korra had anything against it but, still?

"I'm sorry." The omega's voice whispered. "I'm sorry you got hurt."

"Hurt…?" Korra tried to deny it.

"I can tell you aren't giving me the whole story, but it's fine. I can tell by your body language that this Ginger bitch hurt you somehow, but you don't need to tell me more."

"You're ok with that?"

"I haven't told you everything about me, and you haven't pushed, it seems only fair that I respect you the same." Korra felt her heart warm at that, something else to make her like Kuvira more.

"Thanks, and…" Korra wiped at her eyes and took one last deep breath. "I think we'd best head back inside, I can smell those fruit pies and my stomach is craving."

"Yeah, I wouldn't mind something sweet either."

'You're already sweet enough for me.' Korra kept a straight face as that thought flew through her mind and kept quiet as she followed Kuvira back to the temple. Asami met them at the door, looking slightly worried but relieved when she saw both women smile.

The rest of the evening went fine, Meelo was told to stay in his room until Tenzin and Pema talked with him later. The girls and Rohan warmed up to Kuvira instantly, especially Ikki and Rohan; and Rohan, the little prince, surprised everyone when he walked and sat down in Kuvira's lap. Rohan was usually shy, but to like Kuvira so quickly, that made Korra feel much better. Kuvira seemed to like it fine too, and she shared her fruit pie piece with him. It didn't take long for the little one to get sleepy, so Pema took him to bed and Tenzin saw the girls off at the ferry.

"I'm glad you could all come, just remember you're welcome here anytime." Korra gave her old mentor a hug.

"Thanks for having us and tell Pema the dinner was delicious."

"I will, and I will also tell Ikki if she wishes to visit you all she'd best call before coming by, you know how punctual she can be." They all laughed.

"Yeah, thanks again Tenzin." One last goodbye and they all boarded the boat.

Hey guys, again I'm sorry for the wait things just have been crazy and to top it off my work hours have changed, for the better don't' get me wrong, but I get home late and I try to write a little each day but it's not easy.

I still hope you enjoyed this, next chapter Korra gets a surprise visit from her family, a pleasant and unpleasant one. Kuvira gets to show her angry side too, and the White Lotus visit as well.

Please leave a comment they are much appreciated!
