Race for Your Lives, Barney and Charlie Brown

Chapter 1: Heading Out

It was summertime at the gang's neighborhood, and everyone was getting ready for summer camp. Charlie Brown was most excited to be going with all his friends-new and old. He had Heather by his side, Sally, Linus, Snoopy, Woodstock, and the Barney doll in his lap. As he looked out the window, he saw trees and wildlife passing by.

It's a new day (we all can agree),

That the sun shines (brought to you absolutely free).

Free as running water, fresh as morning dew,

(No matter who's the leader) when the sun sets down,

It's gone, Charlie Brown (so race for your life).

Take a chance cause there's no second dance,

('til it's a new day).

I'll tell you a secret, you're about to take a test,

And you have to do your best, don't forget,

(Just remember, just remember, don't forget).

Your life is free as running water, fresh as morning dew,

No matter who's the winner (if you try),

We're behind you (Charlie Brown).

{Race for your life) Charlie Brown.

(Race for your life) Charlie Brown.

(Race for your life) Charlie Brown.

(Race for your life) Charlie Brown.

The kids looked around as the scenery changed to that of a desert. "I think we took a wrong turn." Carlos suggested.

"Me too." Juan sighed.

"I've never been camping before in my life." Lila admitted.

"It'll be fun, kiddo!" Peppermint Patty smiled. "Nothing like roughing it in the great outdoors."

"Plus, we'll get to see all kinds of wild animals." Shawn smiled. Lila smiled a little.

"That sounds okay." Lila shrugged.

"Don't worry, Lila. We'll all be together and have a fun time." Heather smiled. "And the most important thing is to not get lost."

"But what happens if one of us do get lost?" Lila asked.

"We stay where we are, hug a tree, and blow our whistle." Kathy explained.

"Okay. This might be fun." Lila smiled a little bit bigger.

Sally saw two kids at a gas station and waved at them. Juan smiled and did the same. They ran to the back of the bus and tapped the glass, but the girl at the station stuck her tongue at them. "Did you see that?" he asked.

"She stuck her tongue out at us!" Sally exclaimed. "Juan and I waved at that little kid and she stuck her tongue out at us! Boy, if I could get off this bus, I'd punch her lights out!"

"Don't talk like that. There're little kids here." Charlie Brown explained, hugging the Barney doll. Just then, a tire on the bus popped a flat.

"Why are we stopping here?" inquired Peppermint Patty. She then looked out the window and saw the problem. "Hey gang, we had a blowout, or something."

With that news, Sally knew exactly what she had to do. "Juan, stay here. I'm gonna bring down her window shades."

"She doesn't have window shades." Juan commented. Sally groaned as she hopped off the bus and headed towards the girl. "I'm gonna dim her outlook and shorten her lifespan. I'm gonna rearrange her landscape."

When Sally reached the girl, she was in for a surprise. The girl that stuck her tongue out at Sally was growling at her. "On the other hand, I didn't know she was gonna bring her gang with her." Sally shrugged as she headed back to the bus. "I'll confuse her with a silent but dignified retreat."

After a while, the bus had stopped at the 'Last Chance' and everyone was sent on their way inside.

"This looks nothing like it does in the brochure." Kathy said, hugging her teddy bear.

"No it doesn't." Lila said as she hugged a stuffed bunny.

"I don't believe it!" Sally exclaimed. "What are we doing on this ridiculous trip?" she asked her big brother, who had the Barney doll in his arms. "Look! Nothing around us for miles! This is crazy! I feel like I've been hijacked!" she complained as Snoopy rode up in his motorcycle.

"Oh, there you are, Snoopy." Lila smiled. Snoopy then kissed her former owner on the cheek, making her giggle.

The beagle walked into the bar and hopped onto a spinning seat that looked like fun. Charlie Brown smiled and put the Barney doll on one of the seats as well. Snoopy giggled and spun the doll in the seat, then he got Woodstock on a seat and spun it just as the bird was about to land. He was laughing so hard at Woodstock's reaction that he didn't see a pair of hands spin his chair around. Laughter emerged from the bird. The beagle then ordered two root beers for the two. Woodstock's cup captured him as it tipped over.

"Yikes. Are you okay?" Shawn asked as he helped get the cup off of Woodstock. Woodstock chirped happily.

"So gang, what's got you excited for camping?" Peppermint Patty asked Marcie, Tosha, Julie and Kathy.

"Singing songs around a campfire." Julie smiled.

"Maybe we can make s'mores." Tosha agreed.

"And tell scary stories." Kathy added.

"Why are we even going to camp?" Marcie asked.

"Adventure!" Peppermint Patty exclaimed. "Come on, let's get on the bus, gang!"

"Go ahead, after you." Charlie Brown insisted to the kids as the got on the bus. "Snoopy, don't stay back too far. From here on, it's a pretty rough country." He added as the bus doors closed in his face. Heather and Lila rushed outside from the 'Last Chance' to see the bus forgot them as well. "Hey! HEY! DON'T FORGET US! COME BACK! COME BACK!" he exclaimed, trying to run after the bus. "You forgot us."

"What are we gonna do, now?" Lila asked.

Snoopy led the three worried kids to his motorcycle and handed them all helmets. He even had a helmet for the Barney doll. "Your dog thinks of everything." Heather commented as they got on the motorcycle.

"He's really smart." Lila smiled as Snoopy began to ride as fast as he could.

"We're all gonna die!" cried a scared Charlie Brown, hugging the Barney doll in fear. "Watch out! ARGHHHHHHH! Oh no. Snoopy, watch it! Oh no, oh no!" the motor then sputtered and Snoopy went to check it out. "Phew." Charlie Brown sighed in relief. "That was scary, Barney."

Just then, the Barney doll came to life. "Barney!" the three kids smiled.

"I have a feeling this isn't Camp Remote." Barney commented.

"We're having motor troubles." Charlie Brown commented as Snoopy fixed the motor. They all went on their merry way now. Once they reached Camp Remote, the three kids dizzily put their helmets away in the back of the motorcycle. Barney chuckled a little as Snoopy beamed. "Why can't I have a normal dog like everybody else?"

"That was kind of fun, actually." Lila giggled.

Charlie Brown, Heather, and Lila wandered about until they met three kids and a cat. Well, they bumped into them. "Hey kid. Watch what you're doing. And your girlfriends too." One of the boys complained. "You pushing us, kids? What're your names, kids?"

"Charlie Brown, Lila, and Heather Wold." Charlie Brown introduced. Heather and Lila both smiled sheepishly.

"Hey, get a load of these kids with weird names: Charlie Brown, Lila, and Heather Wold." The boy laughed, as did his friends and their cat.

"Back at square one…" Charlie Brown sighed to himself.

"What're you here for, Brown, Lila, and Wool?" the boy sneered. "Have you come to camp to try to be men? Oh right, Lila and Wool's are ladies."

"Attention, everyone. Attention." A kid said from the speaker. "Ling up for your registration forms. Fill in all questions INCLUDING your reasons for coming to camp."

"I was wrong; I hadn't been hijacked. I've been drafted." Sally whined as Charlie Brown, Heather, Lila, Snoopy, Barney and Woodstock headed towards the kids.

"Okay, kid, knock it off." The boy said, hitting Sally. "You're making too much noise!"

Tosha and Min gulped. "This looks serious." Min whispered.

"Did you see that? Did you see what he just did?" Kathy asked Shawn. He nodded his head.

"They insulted me!" Sally cried. "Slug those guys! Show them their place! Give them a knuckle sandwich, Big Brother!"

"We don't want any trouble!" Lila exclaimed.

"Look here kid, get busy and get good. We run this camp, we were number one tent two years ago and we were number one tent last year." The boy explained.

"What's that got to do with anything?" Juan asked.

"Look here, peewee, we're gonna be number one tent this year, too."

"Congratulations."

"Now look here." Charlie Brown began.

"Let him have it, Big Brother!" Sally exclaimed.

"Hey guys, get this. This kid with a round head wants to rumble." The boy sneered as his gang laughed.

"Oh dear." Barney mumbled.

"You know it's serious when even Barney doesn't step in." Heather commented to Lila.

"Go get them, Brutus." One of the boys told the cat.

"Yeah, you think you're so smart, you bullies. Wait until my brother's dog gets here." Sally explained. "Boy, he'll show you. Here he comes. He'll take care of your dog."

"What about his shy little dinosaur?" a boy sneered.

"Go get him, Brutus. Ignore the dog." The boy told the cat. The cat tried to claw at Barney, but the dinosaur, Snoopy and Woodstock all hid behind Charlie Brown, Lila, Heather.

"What seems to be the trouble?" Linus asked as he and BJ arrived.

"Look, kids, get in line and mind your own businesses." The boy told them. Linus began using his blanket as a whip, but he was about to get help.

"Back! Back! Back!" a young voice exclaimed as the bullies backed off. The kids turned around to see Baby Bop using her blankey as a whip. Linus patted her on the crest. "Isn't he the cutest thing in the whole world?" Baby Bop giggled.

"Fastest blankets in the west." BJ chuckled.
