chapter two: unexpectedly, they both like smash?

(ppmd_is_such_a_legend_ngl)

Once again, this chapter is from the point of view of the Fire Queen, Miura Yumiko. Reader discretion is advised for fiery conversations!

There's something that not a lot of people know. And it's that I'm a gamer. I like playing games. It's fun.

Now, the reason most people probably don't know this is 1: I've not told many people, 2: It doesn't make sense that the trendy and hip fire queen would like something as unfashionable as gaming (which doesn't make sense), and 3: I don't play the games that you would expect high school girls to play.

I'm not the type of person to play stuff like Candy Crush or Pokemon or something of the sort.

Instead, one of my favorite games is Super Smash Bros.

It's a game that I've followed the competitive scene for quite a long time. I originally came into contact with the game when I was a kid, getting a hand-me-down Gamecube for my 8th birthday. I remember raging against the Master Hand battles at the end of every character's Classic Mode.

If you ask who I main, well...

"Falcon PUUUUNCH!"

"Yes, I won! Oh, sorry Yui."

"No problem, Yumi. I kinda suck at this game hehe..."

"Yui, it's not a matter of if you suck, it's if you're better than Yumi."

It's Captain Falcon. I just like his aggressive playstyle. And, comboing players is so fun and satisfying when you pull them off!

"I guess I'm next!"

"Hoh, you're approaching me, Hina? Instead of cowering to my Captain Falcon, you're approaching me?"

"I can't beat the crap out of you without getting closer to you, Yumi."

"Hoho, well then, come as close as you like."

"Happily. My Fox and I will finally end your reign of terror!"

"Go Hina! I believe in you!"

It's a 2v1. Just the way I like it.

"Well then, I won't hold back!"

-3 minutes later-

"3-stocked..."

Hina sat dejectedly in the corner.

"Well, at least you were able to take one stock off me. Good job, Hina."

"Mou... I even researched the matchup charts... Fox beats Falcon 6-4..."

"Matchup spreads don't matter when you're good! Look at Hungrybox!"

"I know but..."

Hina turned around tearfully.

"I should've at least gotten 3 stocks off of you."

Hina put her hands to her face and cried.

"Um, well, do you wanna finish the Smash session for today?"

Yui spoke up, scratching her face a little.

"Yeah."

"Yeah..."

We then all just sat down and joked around a little. How silly my friends are.

-Transition to another place xdxdxd-

I like to play Smash Ultimate, too.

I actually main Pikachu in Ultimate, a top-tier character.

I only main Pikachu because, well, I like Pikachu.

My secondary is Captain Falcon since... I think you can guess why.

Anyways, I've joined a couple of Smash tournaments, but nothing big. Just some small local tournaments here and there. While I'm not the best player, I get top 8 sometimes.

When I go to tournaments, I don't go by Miura Yumiko. I go by Kaji. A raging fire, appropriate for my title as the Fire Queen. I also put on some glasses, a mask, and a hat, and I also let down my hair when I go to tournaments. You have to stay incognito, you know?

The tournament is run by a guy I know who likes to stage tournaments. He runs them out of his house and makes the prize something like 10000 yen for the winner. Overall, not something too big.

This time only 16 people entered. How convenient. Normally, people have to fight each other first before the tournament begins to make the brackets even.

(Example of what the bracket looks like)

This is a single-elimination tournament, which essentially means that you get knocked out if you lose and don't get a second chance. Sets are also best out of five, which means that you have to win three matches to win the set and advance to the next round.

I've already made it to the semi-finals. I've beaten a guy who played Ness with Pikachu. It was really annoying. Ness's damn PK Fire, PK Thunder, and floaty aerials made him a nightmare. But, I did win the set 3-1.

"Now, next up is Kaji versus Orange!"

Orange, huh? That's a new opponent.

We both walked up to the TV and looked towards each other to do a fist bump, as is standard before every game.

Wait, she looks familiar.

Black hair, nice curves, glasses... wait.

"Hikio?"

"Miura?"

We just looked at each other in surprise.

"Let's talk after the tourney. It's smash time right now."

"...ok."

And we fist-bumped.

I, of course, picked Pikachu, while Hikio picked Falco. This is my first time going up against a Falco main, so I'll need to be careful. I picked Kalos (There were no stage bans) and we started the match.

I immediately go for a T-Jolt camping strategy, trying to bait Hikio in so I could land some hits.

She doesn't take the bait and just dodges the attacks.

I come in to attack since I'm tired of waiting around and she grabs and up-throws me.

I try to Dair before I get comboed, but I get Baired due to bad SDI from me. She also throws me a couple of lasers from her neutral special and I get overwhelmed.

However, my recovery is excellent and I am able to recover.

This match is interesting.

-Time skip-

"Game!"

I got beat. It was close, though. Hikio read my air dodge and Baired me to death. It's good to note that Falco's Bair is strong. That reflector is annoying, too.

Game two starts and I pick Pikachu once again. Hikio picks Falco, as I expected.

I picked Kalos once again and we faced off once more.

-Time skip-

"Game!"

I won this match, this time. I went for a little more aggressive approach and ledge-camped Hikio. I was able to beat her with two stocks left. We get ready for the third match and pick our characters.

Hikio picks Battlefield as her stage of choice, and we start fighting.

-Time skip-

"Game!"

Hikio won this time. The platforms allowed her to chain up-air me. Since Pikachu is light, that meant that I died way earlier than I would've if we went with like FD or something.

We pick our same characters and get ready for game four.

I go with Kalos once again and we fight.

-Time Skip-

"Game!"

Hikio won that one, making me lose in the semi-finals. That match was very close, with us both being around 90%. However, I missed my forward smash and was punished by her forward smash, making me die.

We fist-bumped and said our ggs. I'll be rooting for her to win this tournament, now!

-Time skip-

Hikio ended up losing against the other player, but it was close!

Hikio chose Falco yet again and had to face a scary Game and Watch! I could only watch as she got up-specialed to oblivion.

But, the set did go 2-3. The last game was intense, with Hikio rolling into an up-smash, killing her!

They said their ggs and the other guy was crowned as the victor.

Hikio and I left the house after we both grabbed some pizza the host had ordered, and we started chatting.

"So, you like to play Smash too, Hikio?"

"Oh, yeah. A little."

"Nice! You're really good, I had a hard time!"

"Thanks. You're good, too. I was only able to win because of a read."

"That was a good read! Hey, can I have your number, Hikio?"

"Oh, really?"

"Yeah! So we can have practice sessions for the next tournament."

"Oh, ok."

Hikio handed me her phone and I input my number.

"Well then, my house is that way. See you later, Hikio! Wanna have a practice session tomorrow at my place?"

"Oh, bye. Yeah, I'm fine with that."

"Alright then, until tomorrow!"

Hikio just waved at me and walked away.

How exciting! I hope we become good friends.

Rushed chapter. Also, listen to Touhou jazz, it's great! Ja, ne!
