Chapter 6: After the Storm Warning
The next day, after the storm finally passed, the kids collected themselves, and dried their clothes. Schroeder actually hung his piano on the clothes line. "That's probably the first time I've ever seen a piano air dry." Carlos commented. "I hope you have insurance."
"I do, but I'm afraid to sell a..." Schroeder said before noticing Kenneth. "Actually, never mind."
"Huh?" the boys asked.
"There we go...just securing my cap..." BJ said, before slipping off his shoes and putting on his spare cap. "Much better."
Over on the girls side, Heather, Lila, Sally, and Peppermint Patty were drying their stuffed animals while Lucy took out her iron, but saw there was no place to plug it in. "What kind of place is this to be lost in?! We can't even plug our iron in!" Lucy barked.
"Okay, I think Cupcake, Velvet, and Carmel are dry now." Heather smiled. "But Fluffy and Bugs Jr are still wet. Give it a few."
"How's Webster?" Sally asked Marcie.
"Safe and dry in the backpack, alongside the necessities." Marcie reported.
"What about my CD player?" Lucy moped.
"Uh, I'm afraid that the only song that you're probably gonna think of is Umbrella." Lila said as she found that the CD player was filled with water. "If you could ever get this fixed."
"AUGH!" Lucy screamed.
"Do you want me to come over there and comfort you?" Carlos asked.
"No. I want Schroeder." Lucy said.
"Girls, we're safe. And that's all that matters." Min smiled as she handed Baby Bop's now dry blankie back to the three year old dino.
"Min's right." Heather smiled.
"Yes, but that was a really scary storm." Lila shuddered before Marcie tinkered with the radio. A news broadcast about the storm began to play.
"Quiet, ladies!" Lucy barked.
"The damage from last night's severe thunder storm has been significant." the news man said. "Please use caution while rafting and other outdoor activities for the next few days."
"Wow, that sure was some storm. I haven't any of the other rafts besides the girls." Charlie Brown said before realizing something. "I wonder how Barney and Snoopy are doing."
"You don't think they could have..." Shawn gulped.
"No. I'm sure they're fine." Linus smiled. "Let's row over to their last location and check on them."
What they didn't know was that Barney was stuck in a hole near a tree as he wiggled his body hoping to get free. "Someone help me!" Barney yelled, hoping someone or something would hear him. "I'm stuck!"
Just then, a bear dressed in pajamas and holding a clock came walking by when he saw Barney's tail sticking out of the hole. He then rushed over. "Oh! Are you okay?" the bear asked.
"Just in a tight situation." Barney quipped a little.
"Hold on, I'll pull you out." The bear reassured. "How much do you weigh?"
"70 pounds."
"I can't lift that much. Let me get help."
"GUYS! THERE'S A DINOSAUR STUCK IN A HOLE! WE NEED AN ANIMAL CHAIN!" the bear explained, as woodland animals ran towards him. "Good, now let's get ready to free T-Rex here."
The animals all held onto each other as the bear grabbed onto Barney. "One...two...three!" They then pulled, freeing Barney.
"Oh thank you!" Barney smiled, but realized there was no one there. "Hello? Hmm, must have left." He then sighed. "Well, I better find the others. They must be worried about me when they saw those boys push me off my raft. I think I better start with Snoopy." He then began to walk.
Meanwhile, in another part of the woods, Snoopy was sadly eating his breakfast, missing Barney and Woodstock.
"Where are they?" asked Snoopy, before an idea hit him and he began to sing a very familiar tune
Snoopy:
I love you, you love me
We're as happy as can be
With a great big hug
And a kiss from me to you
Won't you say you love me too?
Snoopy managed to get woodland animals' attentions. "All together now." Snoopy coached. "You all know the words."
Snoopy and Woodland Animals:
I love you, you love me
We're a happy family
With a great big hug
And a kiss from me to you
Won't you say you love me too?
"And now, we wait." Snoopy grinned.
Snoopy waited for almost an hour, but there was no sign of Barney or Woodstock. He howled to get their attention, but nothing. "Well, thanks. But I better go off on my own and find them." Snoopy sighed to the woodland animals. He then got on his raft, and rowed across the river, howling again, hoping Barney and Woodstock could hear him.
Meanwhile, on his own wooden raft, Woodstock shivered, sad and lonely, hoping Barney and Snoopy were alright.
The boys continued to paddle, until they spotted Barney and Snoopy's raft. "Hey guys! I think I see Barney and Snoopy's raft!" BJ smiled.
"But where are they?" wondered Charlie Brown.
"OH NO!" the boys exclaimed.
"They're gone!" Charlie Brown worried.
"How could this happen?!" BJ exclaimed.
"I think they must have been caught up in the storm's currents and got separated." Linus frowned.
"Snoopy's a good swimmer, so's Woodstock. I think Barney can swim, too." Charlie reassured.
The boys then shuddered as they began to get worried about Barney. "What're we gonna do? Barney's out there somewhere!" Juan exclaimed.
Meanwhile, the girls paddled before noticing the boys. "Hey Patty, I think the boys are having trouble with their raft." wondered Lila.
"Maybe they got a flat." Peppermint Patty shrugged before they paddled to the boys. "Hiya boys! What's going on?"
"They're gone! Barney, Snoopy, and Woodstock are gone!" Charlie Brown exclaimed in worry.
"NO!" Lucy cried out. She then noticed the girls staring at her. "Did I really screamed that out loud?" Lucy asked.
"Yes!" the girls exclaimed.
"NO!" Lucy screamed louder.
"Oh brother." Baby Bop sighed.
"What are we gonna do?!" Lila exclaimed in worry.
"What do you think, new recruit? We gotta find Big Purple!" Peppermint Patty said.
"And Snoopy and Woodstock!" Charlie Brown said.
"Got it, Chuck! Marcie, prepare the ballots!" Peppermint Patty ordered. "The vote is whether we all go together, or go our separate ways."
"Gee, not again." BJ sighed as the girls cast their votes.
"Marcie, tally the ballots." Peppermint Patty ordered.
"One vote we all go together, another vote we all go together, one vote that Sally goes with Linus..." Marcie began.
"He needs protecting." Sally said.
"One vote that we go our separate ways, one vote that we go with Schroeder...really, Lucy? One...uh?" Marcie held up a drawing of a bunch of circles together.
"That's my vote! We all go together." Baby Bop said.
"Two votes we go our separate ways, three votes we go our our separate ways, another vote we all go together, four votes to go our separate ways, and one vote we all go home." Marcie finished, then blushed as she knew that was her vote.
"Marcie!" the rest of the kids, BJ and Baby Bop exclaimed, as Marcie blushed even more.
"Sorry, guys." Marcie chuckled nervously.
"The vote is clear. We split up." Peppermint Patty said. "Kat, do you have your compass?"
"I think so, but it's only pointing at the N. We're going nowhere." Kathy said.
"Then how did we even get to Coco Island, Teddy Girl?" Lucy insulted.
"Kathy, N means North." Heather explained.
"Oh. And Lucy, NEVER insult MY TEDDY!" hissed Kathy, a little.
"Girls, let's keep our heads together, please. We still gotta find, Barney." Lila said.
"Right!" Peppermint Patty said. "OK Chuck, you and your team will head south, and we will head north! Let's go troops! On the double." With that, the kids and dinosaurs went their separate ways.
Meanwhile, Barney was still in the woods, trying to find his friends. Then suddenly, he spotted a nice log cabin. "Ooh, what a pretty house." Barney smiled, putting a bright spin on things. "I wonder if there's anyone in there."
"Anyone there? Any pigs or bears?" Barney called out, as a few woodland animals walked up to him and chattered to him. "Abandoned? You sure?"
The animals nodded. "Thank you." Barney then walked up to the door and entered. He then noticed the cabin was a little dusty. Barney then smiled to himself. "Nothing a little cleaning can't fix."
The woodland animals giggled. "I somehow feel like a princess in Sally's books." Barney laughed a little.
The woodland animals then stepped in and helped Barney clean the cabin. "Why thank you." Barney smiled. "We'll have this place looking clean and shiny in no time. I just hope everyone else is okay."
Meanwhile, back in the woods, the boys were still on their search for Barney, Snoopy, and Woodstock. "BARNEY!" Charlie Brown shouted. "SNOOPY!"
"Do you think an alligator or crocodile lives in these woods?" Juan asked Linus.
"Queen snakes are your biggest worry." Linus said.
"At least we haven't encountered any bears yet." Jason said.
"BARNEY! SNOOPY!" Charlie Brown shouted.
Meanwhile, the girls were also still trying to search for Barney, Snoopy, and Woodstock. "Julie, Tosha, any luck?" a nervous Lila asked.
"Negative." Tosha said.
"Yikes! We're hitting dead end after dead end." Lucy said.
"We can't give up!" Heather said, trying to put a positive spin on things. "We gotta keep looking."
"Barney? Snoopy?" Sally asked, looking under rocks. "Nope. Not there either."
"Why don't we take a break? Maybe we can think of something fun to do to make us less worried." Heather smiled nervously.
"Like what?" Lila asked.
"Uh..." Heather began.
"If I had my Hannah Montana CD, I'd blare it for everyone." Lucy complained.
"Wait! I have an idea!" Heather smiled. "Min, remember when Barney taught us about echoes during our castle adventure?"
"Oh yes." Min said.
"And even Lucy got really scared when we heard Twinkle in the bushes!" Sally giggled.
"I was not scared!" Lucy huffed.
"Oh sure." Sally and Heather sneeered.
"You were the first to scream and run." Min giggled.
"Moving on, why don't we try doing some shouting and hear some our echoes?" Heather smiled. The girls nodded, wanting to try it.
"Hey Barney!" Peppermint Patty shouted.
Her echo did bounce back.
"My turn! READING IS THE BEST!" Marcie called out, but she didn't hear an echo. "An echo with attitude. Good grief."
"Try to make it more fun and silly. Like this!" Lila smiled. "PICKLE PIE!" She smiled as her echo bounced back.
"Okay...READING IS FUN!" Marcie called out, but her echo still didn't bounce back. "What am I doing wrong?"
"Everything." Lucy sneered. "I LOVE SCHROEDER!" she called out, as her echo bounced back.
The girls giggled, actually having fun.
