Chapter 9: Victory Never Tasted Sweeter
Overnight, it began to snow before stopping as the sun began to rise. Barney then woke up first and smiled over his sleeping friends.
Barney:
Are you sleeping?
Are you sleeping?
All my friends
All my friends
Morning bells are ringing
Morning bells are ringing
Ding, ding, dong
Ding, ding, dong
Lila woke up first. "Good morning, Barney." Lila smiled sleepily.
"Good morning, Lila." Barney replied. "Sleep well?"
"Oh yes, now let's get everyone up, get something to eat and get back in the race!" Lila said.
"Love the spirit." Barney giggled.
After awhile, everyone was up and eating breakfast. "OK, we got at least one last leg in the race to go." Heather explained.
"We can do this!" Charlie Brown smiled.
"Yeah, but we're not gonna stand a chance against those bullies if we're in separate teams." Julie frowned.
Heather tried to think of something before smiling. "Then we're all gonna have to join forces! Boys, girls, animals, and dinosaurs!" Heather happily exclaimed.
"How?" Linus asked. "We're three separate rafts."
Juan nodded. "Maybe we can combine our rafts together"
"But how?" Carlos asked.
"A little Barney Magic could fix that...or we can tie our rafts together with rope..." Lucy said. "Alright, ladies, what're your thoughts?"
"The cold cereal ain't too bad of a breakfast, Lucille, but I'd kill for a waffle, right now..." Peppermint Patty said.
"Really, Patricia?" Lucy asked, in an exasperated tone of voice while rolling her eyes.
Heather also rolled her eyes but kept her smile. "We're gonna have to share one raft. Whatever's the closest ones, we'll jump in together and steer down the final leg." she explained, pulling up a map. "Now, during the last leg, we're gonna pass by a water wheel, but the big challenge, the rapids during the final stretch. We're gonna need a leader to lead us through this. And that person is...Charlie Brown!"
"Charlie Brown?!" Lucy gasped.
"Me?" Charlie Brown asked, surprised.
"You can do this, Charlie Brown! We all believe in you." Shawn smiled.
"We do?" Lucy asked.
"He's right, babe. I believe in you too." Heather smiled.
"We're all behind you, Charlie Brown!" Lila happily exclaimed, making Charlie Brown smile.
"Really?" Lucy shook her head.
"We're right behind you, Charlie!" Sally cheered.
"We are?" Lucy questioned.
"We all believe in you." Baby Bop cooed.
"All of us?" Lucy raised an eyebrow.
"Okay, most of us." BJ commented as everyone laughed.
"OK! It's time to get back in the race! Get to the rafts!" Charlie Brown commanded.
"That's the spirit!" Barney smiled as the kids then went outside and walked in the snow. Min pulled out her binoculars and spotted the boys and girls' rafts.
"I see our rafts! They're not that far from here!" Min reported.
"Great! Let's rush to them!" Peppermint Patty smirked before being pelted by a snowball! "INCOMING!"
The kids, animals, and dinosaurs all ducked as the bullies pelted them with snowballs. "We're number one! We're number one!" they taunted.
"You losers will never make it across the final leg!" The fat bully shouted as they sped away.
"WE'LL SEE ABOUT THAT! TO THE RAFTS!" Charlie Brown shouted, and with that, everyone rushed towards the rafts.
"Snowball fights in the summer, that's a new one..." Marcie commented.
"Tell me about it." Kathy said.
"Everyone, onto the S.S Minnow!" Charlie Brown declared. "I always wanted to say that."
"Really, Big Brother? Because this isn't too far off from Gilligan's Isle..." Sally commented.
"Island."
"Whatever. Just focus on the prize: a gazillion ice cream flavors."
The kids, animals, and dinosaurs all quickly strapped on their life vests and boarded the boys raft, which amazingly took Barney's weight. "Let's go!" the kids exclaimed as they rowed onto the final leg.
"Alright, take a left here, and we'll pass the water wheel." Heather explained to Charlie Brown.
"Row left!" Charlie Brown commanded, and the kids did just that.
"Rowing! Rowing!" Heather exclaimed.
"I have one thing to tell those no-good-doing bullies." Peppermint Patty said.
"Spit it out." Julie nodded.
"PREPARE FOR TROUBLE! MAKE IT DOUBLE! TO PROTECT THE WORLD FROM DEVISTATION-"
"It's gonna be a doozy of a leg..." Lucy thought before looking at Barney. "At least you're with us."
They passed the water wheel and smiled with relief as the waters were still calm. "Don't relax just yet! We got those rapids coming up shortly! Just make sure everyone hangs on tightly!" Charlie Brown said.
Snoopy and Lucy held onto Barney tightly as they felt the water get rougher. "WHOA!" the kids exclaimed.
"Make sure Barney doesn't fall out!" Lila exclaimed.
"Make sure Woodstock doesn't drown!" Snoopy gasped.
"Hold me, Linus!" Sally exclaimed.
"THIS IS EXCITING!" Peppermint Patty laughed.
"WHOA!" everyone exclaimed before amazingly passing by the bullies, who all just gasped with dumbfounded faces.
"Unbelievable!" the tall bully exclaimed.
"How can they do that?!" the short bully exclaimed as the water calmed down.
"WE MADE IT!" Juan happily exclaimed.
"And look! The bullies are right behind us!" Lila smiled.
"And the finish line is near!" Tosha smiled.
"You did it, babe! You lead us to victory!" Heather happily exclaimed, giving Charlie Brown a big kiss.
"Not on the raft, Carlitos." Carlos said, covering Juan's eyes.
"Hey you three! Over here!" BJ called out, sticking out his tongue.
"HEY!" the fat bully gasped. "The yellow one just stuck his tongue out at us!"
"Yummy ice cream, here we come!" Baby Bop giggled.
"Victory tune!" Marcie smiled as the kids, animals, and dinosaurs rowed their raft across the finish line, while the bullies all just watched in disappointment, knowing for the first year, they lost.
Barney, Baby Bop, BJ, Barney's friends, and Peanuts Gang:
Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a dream
Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream
(Row, row, row your boat)
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
(Gently down the stream)
(Row, row, row your boat)
Life is but a dream
(Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,)
(Gently down the stream)
(Row, row, row your boat)
(Life is but a dream)
(Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,)
(Gently down the stream)
(Row, row, row your boat)
(Life is but a dream)
(Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,)
(Gently down the stream)
(Life is but a dream)
(Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,)
(Life is but a dream)
Later, the kids, animals, and dinosaurs all gathered around for the award ceremony. "And the winners of the raft race and the new number one tent is...Barney, Snoopy, and their friends!" the camp announcer said.
"WE DID IT! WE'RE NUMBER ONE! WE'RE NUMBER ONE!" the kids happily exclaimed while the bullies sulked.
"Hey! No fair! We'll beat you, next year!" the shortest bully threatened.
"You sure?" Julie sneered, looking at the rest of the kids with an "I-told-them-everything-look".
"Positive!" the tallest bully replied.
"Also, due to multiple reports of bullying, cheating, and pushing a dinosaur off the raft, the former occupants of tent number one are hereby expelled from camp." the camp announcer said. The bullies then picked up their stuff as they, along with their cat, sulked.
"I wonder who tattled..." the tallest bully said.
"Probably the dinosaur..." the fat bully said, snapping his fingers.
"WE'LL GET YOU NEXT TIME!" the shortest bully mentioned as Brutus hissed.
"Bold assumption..." Charlie Brown told Heather as Snoopy chased the bullies and their cat out of the camp area.
"Great job, Charlie Brown! You steered us all to victory." Barney smiled.
"No, Barney. We all did! Together." Charlie Brown smiled.
"And we get our desserts!" Baby Bop cheered.
"Just desserts, Baby Bop." Heather corrected.
"No, I mean ALL THE ICE CREAM WE CAN EAT!"
"Do you think there's a pickle flavor?" BJ asked, as some of the campers and the announcer gagged. "Okay, okay, you don't have to react like that. Just a question."
Over the next few days of the last week of camp, the kids, animals, and dinosaurs all had a fun time with the ball pit, air hockey table, and swimming pool. "HERE, HERE!" Peppermint Patty hollered gathering everyone around her as they sat down at the table with bowls of ice cream and mugs of root beer in front of them. "I propose a round of toasts. First of all, to Big Purple, for always being there for us."
"CHEERS!" the kids exclaimed.
"Okay, bottoms up!" BJ explained.
"WAIT!" Peppermint Patty said.
"Aye yi yi..."
"The next toast goes to Chuck, for showing that he can lead! Atta boy, Chuck!" Peppermint Patty smirked.
"Why thanks..." Charlie Brown blushed.
"You proved yourself worthy, Charlie Brown. You should feel proud." Shawn mentioned.
"I guess that even if I can't lead my dog on a leash, I CAN lead a team to victory..."
"And finally, the last toast goes to...Lucille!" Peppermint Patty smiled.
"Me?" Lucy asked, tilting her head to the side. "Why me?! Out of all of us here! Why's the last toast to me?"
"If it wasn't for you signing all of us up for camp, we would be doing our own things, like beach time, baseball, camping. And if we did, we wouldn't all be together, as friends." Peppermint Patty smiled, making everyone else smile. "You brought us all together and showed us a super-dee-duper fun time. Thanks, Lucille."
"Uh...you're welcome...I think..." Lucy shrugged. She then leaned over towards Barney "I don't understand a thing she just said."
"Are we done, now? My root beer's losing it's float..." Sally whined.
"YEP! BOTTOMS UP!" Peppermint Patty smiled and with that, everyone chugged down their root beer.
"I never imagined I would have a fun time at camp!" Lila giggled.
"And I never imagine we'd get warmed by so many mosquitoes." Sally groaned, pointing at her arms, covered in mosquito bites.
"And I never would've imagined we'd ever win such a fun tent." Julie mentioned.
"We wouldn't have found it without your help, Jewel." Marcie commented.
"Stop calling me Jewel..." Julie giggled.
"Well, we're here and pretty soon, we'll all be going home and enjoying the rest of the summer together, as friends." Heather smiled.
"And that makes me very happy: being with friends."
Barney:
Friends are special, so important,
they make the world go 'round.
Girls:
We like helping one another
in school or on the playground
Boys:
Friends are there to help each other
when one is feeling sad.
Barney:
Being friends is very special.
Be a friend, and you'll be glad.
