The next morning, a rat crawled into Mirabel's bed while she was sleeping.
She woke up and screamed.
"MAMI! THERE'S A RAT IN MY BED!"
But her mother didn't come, not even after several minutes of screaming and crying.
Instead, Pepa entered the room! What in the heck?!
"What on Earth is going on here?" she yawned. "I'm trying to get my beauty sleep."
"I want my Mami!" Mirabel said.
"She's in the shower right now," Pepa said tersely.
"B-b-but there's a rat in my bed," said Mirabel. "I'm scared…"
Pepa searched the entire room, but didn't find any rats.
"I don't see anything," she said.
"I CAN SENSE ITS PRESENCE!" Mirabel grabbed Pepa and cried harder.
Pepa reluctantly hugged her. "Don't cry. It's gonna be okay."
"Your hair is wet, and it smells like flowers…" Mirabel mumbled.
"That's because I just took a shower," said Pepa.
"I'm s-s-sorry…" Mirabel said.
"It's Okay," said Pepa. "Don't worry about it."
"N-n-no… I'm s-s-sorry… for everything…"
"It's fine," Pepa said. "Everything's fine. Really, I don't care anymore. I was just too sensitive."
She began stroking Mirabel's hair for some reason.
And for some reason, Mirabel fell asleep in her arms.
Mirabel was still determined to find her mother when she woke up a few hours later.
She entered the kitchen.
"Mami is always here!"
However, Julieta was not actually in the kitchen.
She was in some random other room, talking to Bruno for some reason. Why would anyone ever want to talk to that stinky, ugly guy?
"I'm sorry for yelling at you yesterday, Bruno. I was just upset with myself, and I took it out on you," she said.
"Why were you upset, though?" Bruno asked.
"Because I didn't stand up for Pepa, nor did I do anything when she ran away."
"But if I hadn't teased her, she wouldn't have run away…"
"Well, at least you apologized to her, right?"
"N-n-no… not yet…"
"Well, why not?"
"She's kinda scary…"
"Your own sister is scary?"
"She goes cross-eyed sometimes!"
Meanwhile, Mirabel was in disbelief.
"Where else could she possibly be?!"
"I saw her," Antonio said, sipping coffee.
"Ooh! Where is… wait a minute! Is that coffee?" Mirabel asked.
"Yeah!" Antonio said, sipping it again.
"I think you're too young for that," Mirabel said.
"No, I'm not," Antonio giggled.
"Yes, you are," said Mirabel, taking it from him.
"MAMI! MIRABEL STOLE MY COFFEE!" Antonio shouted.
"No, no, no! I'm sorry! Here, you can have it back!" Mirabel said.
"MAMI!" Antonio shouted again, but even louder this time.
Pepa rushed into the room.
"MIRABEL! DID YOU STEAL FROM MY PRECIOUS BABY BOY?!"
"N-n-no…" Mirabel said.
"She did, Mami! She did!" Antonio said.
"I was…uh… just playing with him?" Mirabel said nervously. She was very sweaty.
"GIVE IT BACK!" Pepa said, a storm cloud appearing over her head.
"Okay! Okay!" Mirabel said, giving the coffee back.
"Yay!" Antonio said, sipping the coffee again. "Thanks, Mami!"
Pepa chuckled.
"I love you, sweetie," she said.
Sunshine and rainbows!
Bruno was watching from around the corner.
"Oh, cool!" he said. "She made a rainbow!"
He skipped around happily until he slipped on a puddle and broke his nose.
"Ow, ow, ow!"
With a broken nose, Bruno looked even uglier than usual.
He ran away to hide his ugly face, and didn't reappear until dinner time.
"Dinner is ready," Julieta said, setting plates on the table.
"Chicken again? That's the second time this week!" Alma complained.
"Dinner is ready," Julieta replied.
Bruno stumbled into the room, sniffling.
"Sorry I'm late!" he said.
"Bruno!" Alma said, disgusted. "Is your nose broken?"
"What? Noooo!" Bruno said.
"I think his nose is broken, Julieta. Don't you?" Alma asked.
"Dinner is rea… huh?" Juleita said, looking over.
Bruno tried to quickly cover his face, but his hood slipped back down.
"It is broken!" Julieta said, giggling. "How did that happen, Bruno?"
"I slipped on one of Pepa's puddles," Bruno sighed.
"PEPA!" Alma screamed. "You made a puddle on the floor?"
"It… it… w-w-was an accident!" Pepa whimpered.
"Shame on you! You know better than that!" Alma scolded.
"I-I-I'm sorry!" Pepa said.
"Go to your room!" Alma said. "No dinner for you."
Pepa ran away, crying.
"Dinner is ready," Julieta said.
"No," said Alma. "I don't want chicken again. Take this back and make something else."
"I think it looks good…" Dolores said, as if anyone asked her opinion.
"Of course you do," Alma scoffed. "You're pregnant. You would eat anything."
"I'M NOT PREGNANT!" Dolores screamed.
"And where's Isabela?" Alma wondered.
Isabela was swinging on vines in her room.
"Whee! This is so much fun!" she said to herself. She had no idea that dinner was ready.
"I guess she's not coming. That's too bad. She's my favorite family member," Alma said. "Besides myself, of course."
Julieta went into the kitchen to cook something else.
"AND HURRY UP! I'M STARVING!" Alma said.
"Yes, Mama…" Julieta sighed.
The next day, everyone woke up to a burning smell.
The kitchen was on fire!
"JULIETA!" Pepa screamed.
