"Abuela! I'm scared!" Mirabel cried.
"Uhh… why?" Alma asked.
"Bruno's eyes are green!"
"So?"
"I thought they were brown…"
"Ew! They must have changed color somehow!"
"How did that happen?"
"I don't know. I'll go confront him about this."
Alma barged into Bruno's room.
"Mami! You're interrupting my vision!" Bruno whined.
"Let me see your eyes," Alma demanded.
"What? Why?" Bruno asked.
Meanwhile, Julieta was crying.
"What's wrong, Julieta?" Pepa asked, smiling insanely.
"There was a mango here earlier, and now I can't find it!" Juliet cried.
"So what? That's no reason to cry!" Pepa said.
"B-b-but I was going to make mango salsa!"
"You can make something else."
"Mami really wanted it, though!" Julieta said. "And you know how she is when she doesn't get her way!"
Pepa's blood ran cold and she froze, staring distantly.
"Yes, I am aware…" she said quietly.
"You know… I think Camilo took the mango!" Julieta said. "He's always hungry!"
Alma exited Bruno's room a few minutes later.
"MIRABEL!" she screeched.
"Y-y-yes, Abuela?" Mirabel said nervously.
"I just checked, and Bruno's eyes are brown," Alma said.
"B-b-but… they were green earlier!" Mirabel said.
"You're such a liar, Mirabel," said Alma.
"No! I know what I saw!" Mirabel shrieked. "He had GREEN EYES!"
"I've had enough of your nonsense," Alma sighed. "Go to your room, Mirabel."
"Waah! You're so mean!" Mirabel whined.
She ran away, crying.
Now I have to find someone else to yell at, Alma thought.
"JULIETA! Did you make that mango salsa yet?"
"No, Mama…" Julieta said.
"WHAT? Why not?!" Alma screeched.
"Because Camilo stole my mango!" Julieta said.
"ARGH! That little brat!" Alma howled. "When I see him again, I am going to slap him so hard!"
"No! Don't say that!" Pepa said, for some reason.
"Because! He didn't do it!" Pepa said. "He's… he's…"
"He's what?" Alma asked, crossing her arms.
"He's… sick," Pepa whimpered.
"Oh? Should we bring him some soup?" Julieta asked kindly.
"NO!" Pepa yelled.
Alma and Julieta stared in confusion.
"I mean… umm… no. I'll take care of him on my own," said Pepa.
That evening, Camilo was not at the dinner table. Where was he?
"Camilo is not at the dinner table," Alma said. "Where is he?"
Pepa was not eating at her food. Instead, she was just pushing it around on her plate.
Screeeeeeech!
The fork and knife made an annoying noise as they scraped against the plate.
"Can you stop that?!" Alma snapped. "That's really annoying!"
"What's wrong?" Félix asked Pepa. "Why aren't you eating?"
At that moment, Camilo stumbled into the room.
"I'm here! I'm here!" he said.
"There he is!" Abuela said, pointing in Camilo's direction. "There's the boy who stole my mango!"
Thud!
Camilo fell to the ground and began shaking violently while foaming at the mouth.
What in the heck? Was he possessed or something?
"Oh, no!" Pepa said. "Are you okay, baby?"
What an idiot.
"Ugh!" Alma said. "This is an embarrassment!"
She stood up and grabbed the edge of the table.
"What are you doing?" Luisa asked.
"We're going to eat somewhere else," Alma said. "Let's move the table to another room."
Later that night, Mirabel bumped into Pepa in the hallway.
"Pepa!" Mirabel said.
Ooh! She didn't say Tía! I'm gonna tell Abuela! Dolores thought from a distant location.
"Ugh! What do you want?" Pepa asked.
"Uhh… how is Camilo? Is he gonna be alright?" Mirabel asked.
"Camilo passed away a few minutes ago," Pepa said.
"WHAT?" Mirabel raged. "NO!"
She grabbed Pepa and started crying.
"LET GO OF ME!" Pepa yelled. She pushed Mirabel, who fell down to the ground.
This caused Mirabel to cry harder.
Poof!
In an instant, Pepa was gone. It was just Camilo!
"Mirabel! I'm sorry!" he said. "Please stop crying…"
"CAMILO!" Mirabel said. "Why, you!"
She tackled Camilo and began beating him up.
Camilo screamed in pain.
"Uhhh… what was that?" Alma asked.
"Porbably nothing!" Dolores said.
"Oh," said Alma. "Okay."
The next day, Camilo decided to have a little talk with his brother.
"I'm sorry!" Antonio cried. "I didn't mean for you to get in trouble!"
"I forgive you, but you should also apologize to Abuela," said Camilo. "She really wanted that mango salsa!"
"B-b-b-but... I'm scared!" Antonio said.
"Well, let's practice saying sorry," said Camilo. "Just pretend that I'm Abuela."
"Okay!" said Antonio.
He silently stared at Camilo for several seconds, smiling.
Camilo sighed.
