[Days after the Sports Festival]
Izuku was currently being crushed in between a crowd of people on the train to UA. Mei texted him in the morning that she wouldn't be able to pick him up that day, forcing him to find his own way to school. When he finally entered UA's gate, Iida ran up to him, wearing a poncho to deal with the rain while he was closing his umbrella.
"Oh, hey Iida!" said Izuku in a tired tone.
"Good morning, Midoriya! We'll be late if you keep moving so slow. Students of UA should make it a point to arrive 10 minutes early!" said Iida, chastising him as he chopped the air.
"Um…so how's your brother doing?" asked Izuku hesitantly. Iida's fade darkened for a split second before he faked a smile.
"You needn't worry about my brother. I apologize that his or my well-being caused you unnecessary concern during our days off" said Iida. Izuku nodded his head, reassuring the studious boy as the two headed into the school.
[Classroom of 1-A]
"Guys, so many people kept staring at me on the subway! It was kinda embarrassing…" said Toru cheerfully as she covered her face, seeming to be flustered? The students were discussing the unexpected amount of popularity that they all were receiving while out in public as Iida and Izuku walked into the room.
"Hey Midoriya! How was your days off, shroom?" asked Kinoko, smiling at Izuku as he put his backpack down.
"It was good for the most part. Met…an interesting person but other than that, I just relaxed at home yesterday" said Izuku pulling out his notebook and doodling about the latest hero debut. Kinoko giggled while she pulled something out of her bag.
"That's good! I spent these past two days learning some more mushrooms and techniques out in the forest behind my house" said the mushroom girl, handing Izuku a vial of an unknown liquid.
"Not to be rude Komori-chan but what is this?" asked Izuku as he stared at the concoction.
"It's a mushroom potion that I made. You see I thought about if I could combine my mushrooms effects somehow and came up with this! It was tedious at first but after awhile it was easy to turn into an easy to drink potion" said Kinoko, grinning brightly. Izuku stared at her with starstruck eyes.
"That's so cool! So…what does this do exactly?" asked Izuku warily.
"Basically this potion will make you have temporary photographic memory for like an hour or two but the downside is you'll have a massive headache later on…as a way to sort of photographic memory for an hour or two" said Kinoko semi-proudly. Izuku was perplexed, leading to her sighing as she further elaborated.
"Okay so, I researched the effects of a Lion's Mane mushroom and read that it can stimulate a certain nerve growth factor basically helping improve photographic memory. Experimenting with it till I managed to get it down was painful but worth it as I can definitely use this to remember stuff for tests! Hopefully it's not seen as cheating…"
"Pfffft, you're just making sure you remember well. If that's cheating then there's something wrong with this society. Thanks for giving one though" said Izuku as he carefully placed the vial in his backpack. He may ask her for more potions later or specifically this kind.
Suddenly, the door burst open to reveal a now fully healed, Aizawa. He marched up to the podium, slamming some papers on it and stared at the class. Upon seeing his eye's glowing bright crimson, the students quieted down as they gave him their undivided attention.
"Morning" yawned Aizawa tiredly. The class deadpanned as they lacklusterly returned the greeting, the man's laziness was very unfitting for a teacher and never ceased to amaze them.
"Glad to see the bandages are off Aizawa-sensei" said Tsuyu as she placed a finger to her chin.
"That old lady's treatment was excessive but nonetheless effective. Anyways, enough about that, today we have Hero Informatics class. This ones a special class though…" said Aizawa.
"Oh man, I suck at hero laws and all that other stuff" whined Kirashima. A few others joined in with complaints of their own.
"You didn't let me finish. You'll be coming up with your hero names…" said Aizawa. Immediately, the class erupted with excitement as they were now about to choose the names that'd shape their future careers. Izuku gulped as he still had been debating with what name to use.
"SILENCE! Before we do that, concerning the pro draft picks thatI mentioned earlier. It's based on who the Pros think will be ready to join the hero workforce after another two or three years of experience. So you could say that it's a way for them to show interest in your futures" said Aizawa. Some students look down in disappointment due to not placing well in the tournament.
"But there's ample time for their interest to wane before you graduate. Any and all offers can be arbitrarily revoked. It happens quite often" said Aizawa blatantly.
"Blasted adults and their wims!" pouted Mineta angrily slamming his fist on his desk.
"So if we're picked now, then that just means there'll be higher hurdles in the years to come?!" asked Toru hesitantly.
"Yes. Now, here are the complete draft pick numbers" said Aizawa, pointing to the board behind him as a graph appeared on it.
Momo Yaoyorozu 3,150
Shouto Todoroki - 2,530
Katsuki Bakugo - 2,000
Ochako Uraraka - 1,568
Tenya Iida - 500
Kinoko Komori - 450
"There's a surprisingly even spread this time around but that's not always the case" stated Aizawa ignoring the most obvious issue with the chart.
"Congratulations Yaoyorozu, you have the most eyes on you" said Todoroki calmly. The conglomerate heiress looked at him shocked by the kind words coming from the usual stoic boy.
"T-Thank you! You did well yourself" said Momo, trying to return the compliment before he abruptly shut her down.
"Half we're most likely due to my father's influence" said Todoroki looking at the side as Momo sighed. She could understand having bothersome parents although she didn't know his full story.
"1,568! Deku, please tell me I'm dreaming?! Deku…?" asked Ochako as she searched the board for his name before gasping. Izuku was staring at the list with a pale face and wobbly smile. He only got 10…EVEN TORU HAD MORE THEN HIM!
"…" silence was all Ochako got from the green haired boy. She wanted to hug him so badly but couldn't without invoking the wrath of the rather annoying gossip/teasing queen that was Mina Ashido.
"With that settled…whether or not you had the most votes or least votes, you will ALL have a chance to work alongside the Pros" said Aizawa seriously. His eyes moved to Izuku as he narrowed his eyes at the boy temporarily.
"I know that due to recent events, you all already have more experience than most, but seeing the Pros in action as well as being alongside them, will still be worthwhile" said Aizawa.
"Picking our names is gonna be so fun" exclaimed Ochako punching the air as Sato did the same in agreement.
Bakugo scoffed at her optimistic comment before staring at Izuku. Something pissed him off about the fact the nerd got so little in comparison to the rest of the class when he got 2nd place.
"They're only tentative, but you still want to pick something appropriate…" started Aizawa before he was cut off.
"OR ELSE YOU'LL KNOW TRUE HELL" exclaimed Midnight excitedly cracking her whip as she walked into the classroom. Mineta started drooling before he immediately fixed himself, not wanting to be whipped like last time.
"The names you pick will probably be the one that the world may end up calling you. There are plenty of pros out there who chose a name that wasn't their best choice and are still stuck with that name today such as Giga Chad in America" muttered Midnight.
"That's true. Today, Midnight will be here to assess the sensibility of the names you pick. Think about your futures seriously, the name you choose will bring you closer to cementing the image of yourself that you wanna show the world. Names are capable of reflecting one's true character" said Aizawa, trying to spread some wisdom to the kids before they impulsively choose a childish name.
'My hero name huh? No clue to be honest' thought Izuku, staring at the board given to him by Bakugo. He picked up the marker and wrote something down.
[15 minutes later]
"Alright kids, let's start presenting these names!" said Midnight excitedly. Aoyama was the first to step up.
"Alrighty! I present to you: I can't stop Twinkling" said Aoyama, raising his board for everyone to see. Midnight struck a thinking pose for a few seconds.
"Hmm, I love your enthusiasm but how about we change it up a little. Remove everything else but Twinkling and change it to Twinkle. How does that sound?" asked Midnight. Aoyama gave a thumbs up before taking a seat. Next up was Mina.
"Okay, call me: Alien Queen" said Mina, smiling as she raised the board high. Midnight shook her head before speaking.
"Ashido, that might be a little too terrifying for people" said Midnight sternly. Mina went back to her seat, erasing the name.
"Can I go next, ribbit?" asked Tsuyu to watch Midnight nodded. Aizawa was sleeping in his sleeping bag near the wall quietly.
"I've thought about this since elementary school. Call me: Froppy" said Tsuyu, showcasing her cute name. Everyone liked the name, including even Bakugo.
"So cutee! It makes you sound like you'd be easy to know!" said Midnight, happily. The next set of names were all going well.
"Red Riot"
"Cellophane"
"Earphone Jack"
"Tentacole"
"Pinky"
"Sugar Man"
"Tailman"
"Electro"
"Invisible Girl"
"Keep up the name train! We're almost done!" shouted Midnight.
"Shoto" said Todoroki coldly. Midnight shivered at how bland the name was.
"Just your name? Are you sure about this?" asked Midnight.
"Yes" replied the cold teen.
"Tsukuyomi"
"Grape Juice"
"Alright, my parents helped me create this name when I was little! Introducing: Shemage" said Kinoko grinning. Izuku smiled, looking up from his empty board, at least she knew what she was doing.
"King Explosion Murder" said Bakugo furiously.
"Try again" replied Midnight as he stormed off to his seat.
"Here goes nothing: Uravity" said Ochako with a nervous smile. Midnight nodded, reassuring the brown haired teen that the bane was perfectly fine.
"That went smoother than I expected. All that's left is Bakugo's revision and Midoriya & Iida" said Midnight scanning the room.
"Tenya" read the board as Iida looked away.
"You too? Alright then" said Midnight sadly.
'I think this is fitting. I may not be directly in the family but they are my family nonetheless making me one of them. Yeah, I like this name just fine' thought Izuku as he stepped forward in front of the class. All eyes were on him because he was the last one to go up to present.
"…Are you sure about that, Midoriya?" asked hesitantly Midnight as Izuku nodded.
"I-It's a family thing. This name means a lot and I hope I can live up to it!" said Izuku with a bright smile.
"I'm the Proud Hero: Jojo" said Izuku confidently. He smiled as he rubbed the star-shaped birthmark on his left shoulder as everyone applauded his name choice except one.
Bakugo glared at Izuku as he was absolutely confused by the name while Ochako grinned as she was happy he found a name after seeing him struggle on picking one.
As he walked up to the podium one last time, the blond boy enthusiastically slammed his board onto it. He smirked knowing that the name would be fine.
"The Explosion Hero: Ground Zero" said Bakugo smugly as Midnight gave him a thumbs up sending the lesson.
{Intermission}
Quirk: Somnambulist
Hero: Midnight
{After the lesson}
Izuku was looking at his 10 agencies and was shocked. All Might's agency was at the top, followed by Mirko, Ryuko, and some other heroes. However at the bottom was a special section labeled: International Agency Request.
"Aizawa-sensei, what is this?" asked Izuku, before he was dragged outside of the glass by Aizawa much to everyone's surprise.
"Let's go" said Aizawa, dragging the teen to the principal's office.
When they got there, Izuku saw Mr Yagi, and principal Nezu waiting to greet him. He entered the office, noticing the chess board on the table was half completed. He wondered why there was a tea cart in the room, when Yagi spoke up and got his attention back.
"Young Midoriya, this may come as a shock but I want you to be my successor" said Yagi seriously. Izuku stared at the man for 5 minutes before bursting out laughing, not the expression he expected.
"I'm sorry what? Successor to what exactly?" asked Izuku, regaining his composure.
"You see Mr Yagi is actually…" began Nezu as the room erupted in smoke.
"OH MY GOD!" shouted Izuku as now All Might stood in front of him. It was a huge shock to see, even if he had seen numerous odd things in his life.
"Young Midoriya, I'd like for you to be my successor! However, you can decline if you want, this isn't something we can force onto you" said All Might, sitting down. Izuku's brain was thinking about what that meant, it'd be an amazing honor.
"How, what, and why do you want me to become your successor?" asked Izuku, who was still puzzled as to what he meant. Nezu spoke up before All Might could respond.
"What you're about to hear is a national level secret. I'm expecting you to protect this secret with your life, because if this ever got out, villainy would reach an all time high" said Nezu sternly, staring at the now sweating green haired boy.
"You see my quirk is called One for All. It works like a crystallization of power, building up from one generation as it's transferred to another person. I'm the 8th wielder of this power & I would like for you to be the 9th!
However, I understand if you don't want to. I remember you claiming that you wanted to be an inspiration to quirkless people all around the world, which is extremely commendable! So it's up to you…" said All Might seriously. Izuku knew he had to make his decision carefully but he already made up his mind.
The opportunity to have the same quirk as the Number One hero definitely was tempting but he did want to make a name for himself being quirkless. If this quirk could be transferred then he wasn't the only candidate for this power. If anyone could have this power and make use of it, his first thought was Bakugo.
"All Might, I respectfully decline. I wanna show everyone that being quirkless doesn't equal powerless and inspire those without quirks.
However, if you want someone who will make the most of your power then why not pick a third year! Surely there is someone who can properly wield your power" said Izuku proudly. He was confident in his choice to refuse the power. Nezu & All Might looked at each other for a moment before nodding in understanding.
"I must say, Toshinori, you were right about this boy being the right one! He really has shown the spirit of a hero and his determination is highly admirable, alas he has sadly declined your power. So, will you go with Nighteye's recommendation?" asked Nezu. All Might looked like he was in thought for a minute before speaking.
"I'll think about it. Nighteye's recommendation is good, however I dislike how I had no input in the process. Choosing that boy would feel like reading a job application, it just feels wrong" said All Might in a serious tone.
"Alright, now that the successor issue has been discussed, let's talk about the other matter. The International Internship…
An International Internship is as the name entails! A hero course student gets to visit another country's hero agency to get a learning experience about what hero work is like in different parts of the globe!" said Nezu ecstatically, Izuku soaked in the information like a sponge by of course jotting it down in a notebook from his trench coat.
"A truly wonderful opportunity for some students, however there's something highly peculiar about this offer, Midoriya. You managed to catch the eye of a top ten hero in Italy, Rank Fou to be specific…" said Nezu, switching to a serious tone. Izuku felt a shiver run down his spine at the bizarre information.
'What the heck would a top hero in Italy want with me?' thought Izuku nervously.
"To be specific, he wants you to spend your internship at his agency: Passione. We verified with the Public Safety Commission and they have deemed it safe to let you travel there for your internship, that is if you decide to go with them for your trip. Just be very careful about your luggage, it's rumored that there are a bunch of thieves who'd like to rob foreigner's luggage at the airport" said Nezu, once again switching tones when he explained his little bizarre fun fact.
"I am actually intrigued by the offer. I think…I think that I've made my choice for the internships!" said Izuku proudly. They released him back to class as Aizawa escorted him back to class, the man had been sleeping in the hallway.
[Lunch Break]
Izuku sat on the roof with Todoroki eating Katsudon, while his companion was enjoying some cold soba. To explain how we got here, you may remember a little detail from the sports festival. It went a little something like this:
"After this, you better tell me about your power!" shouted Todoroki as the flame on his arm grew bigger.
"Fuck it! Sure, I'll tell you after this" exclaimed Izuku with a crazed grin…
Well Todoroki made sure he kept his promise, as now one more person knew about the nature of his stand. Izuku learned about Todoroki's family life and felt bad for shutting him down during the festival but at least he could listen now. For a while the two sat on the roof silently, Izuku remembered something that worried him.
"Todoroki-san, remember that International Internship Offer that I was given?" asked Izuku while munching on his lunch. Todoroki nodded his head as he slurped on some soba.
"Well…I decided to take the offer! said Izuku, smiling at his cold classmate. Todoroki's eyes widened in surprise.
"That's nice. You seem to be getting at something, well speak your mind" said Todoroki placing his bowl down and giving the green haired boy his attention.
"Well ever since his brother was hospitalized, Iida has been off. I can tell he's angry and although he told me that he was fine, I feel that he might do something reckless like trying to get revenge. Could you please keep an eye on him while I'm away? I-...If something happened to him while I was away…I'd never forgive myself!" said Izuku slamming his fist on the floor..
"Of course, I wouldn't let a classmate die if I could prevent it. Thanks for telling me, Midoriya…" said Todoroki, doing a slight bow as he stood up. The two regrouped with their class as they headed to their next class period, both teens noticed Iida's darkened face as they left school that day.
[1 Week later on Monday, Streets of Musutafu]
Mei begged (annoyed) her teachers to let her see her friend plus to do last minute checks on his gear. Alas, the inventor was allowed to come with 1-A as they prepared to depart for their internships. Izuku was walking beside Ochako, when she grabbed his right hand without warning, startling him greatly. Unfortunately, the remainder of their class saw her do this and gasped in awe.
"WHATTT?! Y-You two are dating? Since when? I want all the deets!" screamed Mina invading the couple's personal space.
The duo shook their heads in embarrassment and Izuku forcefully covered Ochako's mouth before she said something that they'd both regret later. Mei stood to the side by Aizawa, tinkering with Izuku's gear, she gritted her teeth in annoyance at the class's current conversation topic for some reason, which she couldn't explain herself.
"Alright, do you all have your costumes?" asked Aizawa, to which everyone nodded. He continued as he
"Good, you can't wear them in public without supervision because that's prohibited. Don't lose them" said the tired teacher sternly.
"Hell yeahhh, this is gonna be amazing!" said Mina, patting her hero costume's case.
"Watch your profanity and stop slurring your yeahs, that's childish Ashido. All of you are to be on your best behavior! Now, go out there and be sure to learn something useful" said Aizawa, shooing the students away. Izuku stayed with Aizawa and Mei, who'd be dropping him off at the airport.
"Hey Midoriya, I hope you have fun in Italy! I wish I could see all the beautiful areas and the heroes there…, shroom" said Kinoko with a sad smile as she went and hugged him. He laughed as he pulled out his phone.
"Then I'll be sure to take some videos and photos while I'm there" said Izuku, smiling. SHe furiously nodded as she stepped aside, walking up to the green haired boy and hugging him tightly.
"Yeah, I hope you fun there and gain some good knowledge about hero work in different countries. I know you're excited to take notes on everything there. Stay safe okay…oh and umm…"
Ochako looked around and noticed no one was really paying attention besides Komori, who just gave her a thumbs up & it seemed like Mei was looking at his gear. Taking the chance given to her, she leaned and kissed him on the cheek before running to her train with Komori. Izuku just flusteredly smiled like an idiot while Mei rolled her eyes.
"Wow, you two are so adorable. Well me and her are going to the same agency so see ya!" said Kinoko running after the zero gravity user.
Izuku waved to the brown haired duo before walking to quickly talk with Todoroki before his departure. The two walked towards Iida, who was slipping onto his own train quietly away from the class. He turned around shocked that the two wanted to see him off.
"Oh, it's you two. Here to see me off huh?" asked Iida shyly.
"No. That's my train as well. Headed to my father's agency" said Todoroki coldly. Izuku rubbed his neck embarrassed.
"Well actually, I am here. Iida, just promise me you won't recklessly go after the hero killer. If you encounter him on accident just run away. From the news he is far too unpredictable and even too much for some heroes to handle. I know why you chose Hosu Iida, I'm not an idiot. Just remember you're a hero in training okay. If you die here then the future that you have yet to save may…their futures will die with you" said Izuku sternly.
Both were shocked by how dark the green haired boy was being but both understand why he said it that way. It was the only way to actually show the consequences that'll occur if he follows through with his plans.
"...Fine. I promise I'll be careful" muttered Iida as he and Todoroki got on the train. Izuku sighed as he waved them off before heading back to Aizawa & Mei.
'I just hope I got through to him…He's acting way too thick-headed right now' thought Izuku.
"Finally ready to go? Took you long enough kid" said Aizawa, his boredom seeping out with each word. Izuku felt a yawn nearly escape from his mouth, his tiredness was legitimately contagious…perhaps a second quirk?
The stand user nodded as he picked up his costume case that Mei dropped before him. She smiled as she lifted up her goggles and slung her arm over his shoulder as they entered the underground hero's car and headed to the airport. He waved at the remainder of his classmates who were still there as they left the area.
[Airport]
Izuku gulped as he began heading towards his plane but was stopped by Mei. She grabbed his palm and opened it as she stared at him in the eyes, he noticed that she put a word grey bracelet on it. Upon lifting it up, it instantly bonded itself to his arm. He was shocked as he remembered that this process was similar to the bonding process that her nanites demonstrated on their video call a week prior.
"And voila! Worked like a charm!" exclaimed Mei excitedly, Izuku stared at her in confusion.
"Is this what I think it is?" asked the stand user to which the inventor chuckled.
"Not like my suit but it should activate to protect you from any dangerous blows. Of course you can manually turn off the feature if you want.
I also included some extra gear to your costume; projectable smaller versions of my Bubble Balls, red hover boots to fit your weird obsession with red shoes. L-Look, you're my first and best friend Izuku. So your safety while you're over there is my top priority, you know that…" said Mei, smiling with a slight blush on her face. Izuku smiled at how thoughtful she was being before he frowned.
"Jeez Mei, I really do love you sometimes you know that? This is amazi-…you just want me to field test the nanites don't you…" deadpanned Izuku. Mei's blush disappeared as she wacked him on the head with her goggles.
"W-What?! How could you say that? I just…you're a jerk! Get going already before they leave you behind!" yelled the pink haired inventor as she quickly pushed him towards the plane. She waved him goodbye as he disappeared into the plane and ran back to Aizawa, who just yawned as the two walked back to his car. He was not enjoying her enthusiastic personality as she pestered him about his hero gear.
As Izuku took his seat and placed his luggage in the proper area, he smiled and sighed. He was leaving his home country for the first time in his life to visit Europe of all places! To be honest, the boy expected to go to America before going to Italy of all places, but he didn't mind.
Opening up his phone, he went to his music playlist and selected Long Hope Philia. As the music started to play into his ear, he smiled and stared out the window as the plane began to lift off. Despite his worries of traveling alone, at least the plane was cozy and Joseph Joestar wasn't his pilot.
To Be Continued…
