Chapter Eight: The Other Daughter Returns Part 2.
At her Grandmother's home, Betsy is packing her suitcase, her grandmother Carolyn is there, talking to her.
Carolyn - Point Place?
Betsy - Yeah, Grandma.
Carolyn - With all those hooligans? Darling, please be careful, the people there act crazy twenty-four seven.
Betsy - But you and Mom lived there.
Carolyn - We've moved on up to greener pastures since then.
Betsy - Grandma, Chicago is not a paradise.
Carolyn - But it's better than Point Place.
There's a knock at the door.
Betsy - That's probably Mom.
She goes to the door, unlocks it, Brooke walks in, and closes the door.
Brooke - Are you finished packing?
Betsy - Just about. Me and Grandma were talking about…
Carolyn (interrupting) - We were just talking about how much she hates you.
Brooke - Betsy, go in the other room, I need to talk to your grandmother.
Betsy - Is it about me again?
Carolyn - Elizabeth, darling, please go in the other room.
She goes to the other room, leaving the two of them alone.
Carolyn - So, you're sending her away to Point Place?
Brooke - I've got no other choice. I can't deal with her anymore.
Carolyn - I could've told you that.
Brooke - Mom, don't start, I don't wanna hear it.
Carolyn - You're gonna hear it, because you never listened to me.
Brooke - When did I ever?
Carolyn - When you got knocked up by that imbecile.
Brooke - I don't see why you still criticize me. I married Vic, like you wanted.
Carolyn - Of course you did, Victor is a good man, and he's well off, he gives you things that Michael couldn't.
Brooke - You don't know that.
Carolyn - But I know men, and Michael wasn't and still isn't dependable.
Brooke - Mom…
Carolyn (interrupting) - I mean, has he even paid any child support to you in the last few years?
Brooke - Mom, don't bring this up again..
Carolyn (interrupting) - Did he even take care of his supposed love child?
Brooke - That's none of my business.
Carolyn - You have to know these things, Brooke. Do you know what's going to happen to Elizabeth?
Brooke - No, what is gonna happen?
Carolyn - The same thing that happened to you is gonna happen to her. And you're gonna end up helping her raise your grandchild, while she struggles as a single parent.
Brooke - Okay, mom, I'm sick and tired of you badmouthing Michael, and criticizing my past mistakes.
Carolyn - I only do it because I care about the well being of you and Elizabeth.
Brooke - Like you ever cared, you don't know Michael.
Carolyn - Neither did you, but you knew him long enough to get intimate with him.
Brooke - Mom, stop it!
Carolyn - There's no getting through to you is there? No wonder Elizabeth acts the way she does.
Now getting even more frustrated, Brooke has had enough.
Brooke - Betsy! Are you finished packing!
Carrying her suitcase, Betsy re-enters the room.
Betsy - Been ready.
Brooke - Go wait by the car.
Carolyn - Stay close by the security guard, darling.
Betsy - Whatever.
Betsy exits the home, Brooke turns to her mother.
Carolyn - I still think it's a bad idea to send her there.
Brooke - Well, she's my daughter!, not yours! and I'm gonna do whats in her best interests.
She scoffs.
Carolyn - Sure you are.
Brooke - Goodbye, Mother!
She exits the home, and slams the door shut.
Carolyn - Well, that was just plain rude.
In her car, Brooke is driving en route to the bus station, Betsy is in the passanger seat, she looks on at everything passing by.
Brooke - This is just temporary.
Betsy - Yeah, right. You're trying to get rid of me.
Brooke - No, I just think this is a good opportunity for you to get to know your dad.
Betsy - Grandma calls him a deadbeat.
Brooke - He's not a deadbeat.
Betsy - She also says he's a bum and a womanizer.
Brooke - Okay, You have to stop believing your grandmother's nonsense.
Betsy - It's the truth, ain't it?
Brooke - Your Dad is not a bad person.
Betsy - He hasn't even come to visit in years.
Brooke - Well, life happens, and sometimes you can't control things.
Betsy - Oh, please, he got married and had a new family, while he forgot about us.
Brooke - He never forgot about you.
Betsy - That's not what Grandma told me.
Brooke - Well, your Grandmother says a lot of negative things about your Dad.
They reach the bus station.
Brooke - Here we are.
She turns to her daughter.
Brooke - Now look, Betsy. I want you and your father to try to get along.
Betsy - I already know plenty about him.
Brooke - Do you?
Betsy - It doesn't matter.
She opens the door, and exits the car.
Brooke - Call me when you get settled!
Betsy closes the door, and walks to the bus area. Brooke looks on as Betsy climbs aboard, gets to her seat, before the bus drives away.
On the bus, Betsy is in her seat, reading a magazine, after flipping through some pages, she tosses it on her backpack, and looks out the window.
She was born Elizabeth Victoria Kelso, but shortly after, her last name was changed to that of her mother's, which was most likely due to the influence of her grandmother, who got too much involved in her parents relationship, ultimately breaking them up.
Her mother had married Vic, the owner of the playboy club where her dad worked as a security guard, he also owned several other businesses in Chicago, they had a few children of their own, Betsy wasn't really bothered by this, Vic was a good man, and he treated her mother right, but as she grew into a teenager, things got a little complicated.
Growing up, her relationship with her dad, Michael Kelso, wasn't really good, her mother had kept her from seeing him, but she later discovered that it was her grandmother who was encouraging it, often claiming that Kelso was a deadbeat father, and all kinds of negative stuff, and saying that he'll ruin both her and her mother's life.
As she became a teenager, she began rebelling, and not in a good way, by her sixteenth birthday, she had already done all kinds of stuff, at thirteen she lost her virginity to a fifteen year old, who might've been held back a grade due to a prank at his school, and for some reason the boy reminded her of her dad. She'd also had gotten in trouble with the law for petty stuff, mainly for curfew, underage drinking, possession, the usual teen stuff, but thankfully she's never had to do time, since Vic had connections in the police department, and also her grandmother having influential friends in high places.
Now she was heading to Point Place, a town that she hadn't been to in a very long time, who knows how things are gonna go when she gets there.
End of Chapter Eight.
(Author's Note: What do you think? Let me know, stay tuned for the next chapter).
