Chapter 10
Interrogation Room, Iron Heights
"Wolfe, you idiot! I was sent to help you!"
Tom Tresser, also known as Nemesis, was shackled to a metal chair in the middle of the small room while the other occupant of the room, Gregory Wolfe, was checking several monitors in the desk.
"I don't need anyone's help! Especially not from Waller or one of her stooges!"
Tresser spat blood on the floor. He blamed Waller for this situation as well as Wolfe. The two were so pig-headed and sure of themselves that he wouldn't be surprised if they were related. Anyway, he came as instructed by Waller to volunteer help in case Iron Heights was suddenly encapsulated by a black sphere like the ones covering Arkham Asylum, Blackgate Penitentiary and Belle Reve. When the damn warden refused him admittance to Iron Heights, despite his credentials, Tresser did the only thing he could. He broke in.
It had been a good four hours before he's been discovered, and another half hour before he'd been caught. He'd have this to say – the Iron Heights guards were brutal in their take down. At least two of his ribs were cracked. He wasn't sure about his arm. And his left knee felt like it was on fire. And that was before Wolfe used his powers to induce pain in his muscles.
Wolfe left off torturing Tresser when the prison had been captured in a black sphere just as he'd been warned.
"Damn it, is this the work of the Shade?" demanded Wolfe, as he scanned his instruments and ran through the list of villains that used darkness abilities. "He had some kind of partnership with the first Flash's foes. This could be some kind of geriatric attempt to relive his glory days before kicking the bucket."
"Damn it, Wolfe! Come to your senses already!"
"Could be Eclipso." He frowned. "No, the motif isn't right."
"Geez, will you listen to yourself? I came to you warning about this hours ago!"
Wolfe swirled around, fury filled his eyes. "Your Suicide Squad had a darkness powered female by the name of Nightshade among its members! Yes, and I wouldn't put it past your dear twisted Amanda Waller to steal Iron Heights just so she could use all the prisoners here as cannon fodder!"
"… and now you are sounding crazy paranoid," Tresser said. "Nightshade couldn't pull off something of this magnitude."
Painful muscle spasms began to wrack his body. One right after the other, as if his body was being flooded with muscle spasms. For how long Tresser was unsure since when things began to make sense to him again, Wolfe was shouting into his radio as he pounded his fist onto the console.
"Damn it, I'm telling you that there is no one visible! You are fighting nothing! It must be a mirage meant to trick you!"
Tresser could see just enough of the screen to see several guards frantically opening fire on empty air.
"There's nothing there!" insisted Wolfe. He paused when one of the men on the screen was picked up by something invisible and slammed into the wall. Another guard was being cut to pieces. "What the hell?"
"Vampires don't show up on camera," Tresser muttered.
Wolfe glanced back at him for a second before returning to his screen.
"Wolfe."
The warden didn't acknowledge him but continued to watch as the remaining guards were taken down.
"I've heard how you have all these special sensors for detecting any of the Rogues from escaping. Try a sonar scan or whatever you have like that. It might work."
Wolfe didn't argue. Instead, he entered some commands to his keyboard which resulted in a different picture on the screen. Now, leaning over his dead guards were several new figures, one which was a large giant of a man.
"What the hell?"
"Now do you believe I know something of what I've been talking about?" Tresser snapped.
"How do I fight these things if bullets don't work?" the African-American warden finally asked.
"You ever watch a vampire film?" Tresser snapped. "Wooden stakes, crosses, holy water, beheading, fire and good old-fashioned sunlight."
"That stuff will work, but not bullets? You can't be serious?"
Tresser did the best he could to give a shrug. "Wooden bullets piercing the heart might work. Maybe frozen holy water shaped into bullets. I don't know how that would work though."
Wolfe just seemed angrier. "I'm not letting the Rogues or any of those other maniacs free. Not even to fight vampires!"
Tresser had already determined that he was dealing with a fanatic whose main focus would always be keeping the Rogues and similarly dangerous villains buried deep within the confines of his prison. "What about your guards? Can you arm them with some of the Rogues' weapons that are stored here?"
Wolfe didn't move, so Tresser pressed on.
"I don't mean like the stuff Mirror Master uses. I can't even begin to fathom how to use his technology. But Captain Cold and Heat Wave, their weapons have to be easier to use."
Wolfe was watching the monitors as more of his guards were being attacked. "Damn it!" Calling over his walkie talkie, he quickly sent some of his guards to get ahold of some of those dangerous weapons that he despised from where they were being stored. "This isn't going to end well," he muttered.
"That's often the case," agreed Tresser. "Now that we've established that I'm one of the good guys, can you unchain me already? And I'm going to need some pain killers."

Non-Powered Wing for incarcerated Super-Villains – 2nd Level
The young Trickster, the second to take that name, called out to the others. "All right, who wants to place some bets? Who do you think is breaking out? Double your money if you are right. Double your bet again if they succeed."
"I'll take ten cigarettes on Grodd," spoke Dwarfstar who was in the next cell. "Wait, does anyone know if Grodd is even currently locked up here?"
"He is," came an answer from the cell of the Turtle Man. "I heard one of the guards mention him last week."
"Yeah? All right then, Grodd for me!" Dwarfstar grinned to himself as he imagined what mayhem the super-powered gorilla must be doing to the guards.
"I'll say fifteen on Girder," added Mister Terrible. "All that noise out there, sounds like something he'd be doing."
Scavenger, the old man who collected various super weapons and artifacts, not the underwater one who would fight Aquaman, slapped his hand twice against the side of his cell. "Hey, Trickster, what kind of odds can I get if I bet twenty cigarettes on someone from the non-Rogue superhuman section escaping?"
"What? Just anyone from that section? Not someone specific?" Trickster asked, wanting clarification.
"That's what I said!" insisted the old man.
The young man only considered for a moment. "Well, they do have a larger population, so I think 2 for 5."
Scavenger grumbled but agreed.
Further down the line of cells, Jonathan Cheval, otherwise known as the Monocle, sat sipping a small cocktail made from bananas that he had purchased from his next-door neighbor, the diminutive genius Gizmo. "This is much better than the one you made last week," he commented. "Could use a cherry and a splash of vodka, too."
Gizmo grunted in response. He had taken to making alcoholic drinks for his fellow prisoners in exchange for whatever parts that could salvage around the prison. He'd been fortunate that Drakon had been able to steal a guard's phone during a small riot, which had cost his cache of saké that he had painstakingly made from pilfered rice and various sugar sources. And while he missed the saké, he at least had the necessary items to connect to the prison's security system. It was his hope that he could create and install several programs into the prison's computer network that he could then use to create some sort of escape plan. He'd only established the connection to the network a few hours ago, but now was trying to determine what the commotion was and perhaps use that information to corner the betting that the young Trickster was trying to get going.
"This can't be right."
"What is it, my friend?" Monocle answered.
"I've hacked in to the security system. I can see the guards fighting, I just can't see who it is that they are fighting."
"Invisible foes?"
The Monocle couldn't see Gizmo shake his head. "No, the guards seem to be seeing their attackers just fine. It's just the cameras aren't showing their image."
Jonathan Cheval nearly spilled his drink. "What?"
"I hear that hero in the JSA, Mr. Terrific, can do stuff like that. Somehow, he's made himself invisible to technology. I've been trying to figure out how he did it, but so far all my guesses have failed. I would really like to take apart one of those T Spheres of his and try some reverse-engineering."
The older villain grimaced as he looked at his drink, choosing to set it down for the moment. "There are other things that do not show up in reflection. Or technologies that use reflections to work."
"Hmm? 'Things'? What, you mean like vampires or ghosts?"
"Vampires is to what I was referring," the Monocle said, with a sour tone. "Many years ago, while I and some of my henchmen were setting up a trap for Hawkman, we were suddenly beset by four such monstrosities. Two of my men had been killed before we could even blink. If it were not for the laser technology that I've built into my monocle, I and the rest of my men would have been dead for certain."
"Vampires?" Gizmo tried comprehending such things existing in the world in which he lived. It was difficult, but when he considered that there were aliens-(Superman, Starfire & Sinestro), wizards-(Dr. Fate, Zatanna & the Felix Faust), swamp monsters-(Swamp Thing & Solomon Grundy) and even a king of Atlantis-(Aquaman), then vampires were almost a given fact.
Using his limited control over the camera, he zoomed in to where one of the guards were being attacked. The attacker was still invisible to Gizmo, but he could make out the teeth marks that appeared on the guard's neck. The gushing blood seemed to disappear almost as soon as it left the guard's neck.
"Now there's a sight you don't see every day," he murmured.
"What was that?" called the Monocle from the other cell.
"You were right," Gizmo amended. "The guard's blood, it's… it must be being drank by a vampire."
Monocle starred at the bars holding him in his cell. "These bars aren't going to be enough to keep us safe. Not if they are overrunning the prison."
Gizmo glanced at his own bars and let out a grunt. "I guess this bumps up my escape plan."
"You have any that will work?"
"It will have to," Gizmo said through gritted teeth as he began hacking farther into the prison's computer system than he had dared to before now. "Fortunately, these vampires will have drawn the guards' attention, so we will have a better chance. This is going to take a few minutes. You might want to pass the word along."
Monocle nodded. He held off talking so that Gizmo could concentrate. Instead, he listened to the distant sounds of machinegun fire, and tried to determine if it was getting closer. He took a deeper sip of his cocktail, finishing it. Now he just had to try pass on the information to the idiot in the next cell over.

High Security Superpowered Wing – 2nd Level
Hector Hammond sat in his modified wheelchair confined to his cell in the high security wing of Blackgate Penitentiary. He didn't mind the walls so much. To a telepath, they were a trivial thing at best. Unfortunately, Blackgate had some tech put into his chair that inhibited the majority of his mental powers. While he had recently regained some mobility, his lack of musculature, as well as his weighed down massive brain, kept him from moving from his chair. In fact, Warden Wolfe had added a device to his waist. A proximity alarm on a timer that would shock him to unconsciousness if he was too far away or for very long from his chair. The device also let him stay in his bed or on the toilet. The toilet was a necessary for him, since he couldn't move much, constipation was a real problem for him. And it behooved him to spend quality time on his toilet. He was grateful that he had just enough mobility to clean himself up.
"It is a strong force to come this far past Wolfe's defenses," remarked the assassin Carl Sands, called also the Shadow-Thief, from the confines of his own cell.
Hector sniffed in disdain at such a simple observation. Even so, he knew better than to say anything insulting against the touchy assassin.
"From the amount of gunfire, there must be a large group invading the prison," came the low rumbling, accented voice of Taro Raiden, the large mutant otherwise known as Behemoth. He was the quiet discerning one in the cell block, but when he did decide to lash out it was with devastating effect. He was also a surprisingly good chess player. Hector found him to be quite sensible most of the time. Even so, Hector could never quite understand why the mutant volunteered to allow the mentally unhinged Mento to conduct Promethium experiments on him. True, he gained super-strength and denser-than-human skin, but if it hadn't worked out, just about anything could have happened to him. Perhaps Mento had used his telepathic powers to make Taro want the experiment.
Hector could hear other semi-hushed voices from the hall. Usually, the guards would put a stop to the prisoners talking from their cells. But tonight, the guards seem to be preoccupied, hence the gunfire echoing from somewhere outside.
"Maybe they are here to break out the Rogues?" asked the Silver Fog from farther down the hall.
Edward Arling was the second person to use the Silver Fog moniker. He had originally been a lab assistant to the first Silver Fog and later copied the way the first had obtained his powers. The rest had not really accepted him since he was following on someone else's mad scientist coat strings. He had a ways to go to prove himself like the second Mirror Master had done. He was new to Blackgate, and so far, he'd only seemed to annoy several thugs accidently. He needed to join some inside gang or his stay at Blackgate would be very painful and possibly short.
"The gunfire is spread out in too large of an area," remarked Roland Desmond, the second Blockbuster who was in a cell next to Hector's. The massive man ran his rough hands over the door of his cell for the hundredth time looking for a weakness. The mob boss was more than a bit angry that his lawyers hadn't had him released yet. Normal cells couldn't hold him so he'd been placed in Blackgate until his lawyers could find a way to set bail for him. Desmond was definitely planning to set a higher bounty on Nightwing's head when he next talked with his accountant. "This is a takeover," Desmond announced.
Hector let a small smile cross his face. Every now and then his telepathy would let him read some of Blockbuster's thoughts due to the closeness of his cell. The man was a brutal thug trying to look cultured and refined. The juxtaposition of Desmond's mind was amusing to Hector and helped to ease his dismal stay in this prison.
From his cell, Reichsmark chuckled. "It's probably my team members in the Fourth Reich coming to free me from this place." The metal-skinned neo-Nazi was not a popular man in cell block, but he was loud and boisterous.
"Possible, but doubtful," Blockbuster commented dismissively.
Reichsmark gritted his teeth at being dismissed so. He hated not being able to see those he talked to. Hector didn't have to read the man's mind to know that he was also a mild claustrophobic. It made him anxious, which resulted in him making mistakes, especially verbally. Blockbuster had already made him look like a fool several times since he'd been brought in, and the German was sick of losing face to the others in the cellblock. Growling to himself, he chose another subject before calling out. "What about you, Ubermensch? If the Fourth Reich comes to rescue me, would you come with us?"
Ubermensch had been sitting quietly in his cell, listening to the fighting in the distance. He hadn't expected to be drawn into the conversation. "But of course." He paused. "But I do not know if my comrades in the Axis Amerika are incarcerated here or not. If they are here, I would be honor bound to free them."
Reichsmark laughed, encouraged by someone taking him up on his offer. "The more the merrier! Your friends sound like good like-minded people! Perhaps our two groups could even join forces."
"Perhaps. Perhaps. I will not speak for my friends. Nor will I forsake them," Ubermensch stoically responded.
From farther down the cell block came a yell. "Will you racist bastards shut the hell up! Some of us are trying to listen to the guards dying!" snarked Danny Brickwell, known to those in Star City as the Brick. A crude, ruthless metahuman with thick, brick-like skin, he'd forced his way up through the ranks until he was a crime lord in Star City.
Reichsmark couldn't help but be amused at Brick's statement of the guards' possible demise. "Ah, you black bastard. If you were white, I'd buy you a beer," the German grinned to himself at his imagined wit.
"Well, I ain't no honky, but I ain't a homo either so you can just keep your damn beers to yourself."
"That's not what I meant!" Reichsmark slammed his fist repeatedly into the door of his cell. "You will pay for that remark, dog! No one besmirches my character!"
"Shut up!" roared Lion-Mane. "If I get gassed by the guards again because of you, I'll tear your eyes out!" His hyper senses made the gas much worse for him than the others, to the point that he'd almost do anything to not be afflicted with it again. Lion-Mane was literally a humanoid lion, a human changed by a meteorite that had been modified by aliens of malicious intent, but his many beatings by the guards in Blackgate had made him hesitant to do anything to bring on their ire.
"You know," came a more high-pitched voice, "if this really is a breakout, it would benefit us all if we were to work together." The speaker was the smallest of those incarcerated in this part of the prison, and even had wire mesh over the door and vent opening to prevent any possibility of escape. He was humanoid in appearance and about the size of a small child, but there was very little that was childlike about this murderous mobster. Despite being highly intelligent to the point of being able to make several types of scientific weapons for his gang of goons to use, he seemed oblivious or willfully ignorant of the fact that he was actually an animated wooden ventriloquist dummy. Hector had once met the Dummy at Roulette's casino, The House, and was surprised to find that the Dummy didn't seem to realize he actually was a wooden ventriloquist dummy, just alive. The experience of skimming over the surface thoughts of the animated dummy had left him feeling disturbed and he never tried to do that again.
"The Dummy is right," came the monotoned response from Hector Hammond. "Our chances of escaping the confines of these facilities rise dramatically if we work together."
"That's for me!" called out the superhuman thug called Blackguard, as well others shouting their agreement to the situation.
"We need our powers working before that can happen!" That bit of bad news came from the cell of the controversial inmate, the metahuman Coldcast. He had been a part of a brutal vigilante group known as The Elite. Several inmates have attempted to express their displeasure to him which had left him in the prison's infirmary several times, but usually in the company of those that had attacked him.
"Keep your trap shut, ya lousy vigilante scum!" This most recent holler came from the Battering Ram, a.k.a. Bruno Hogan, who was a smalltime for hire supervillain. He and Coldcast had only come back from the infirmary the day before, so there was no love between them.
"Lay off him, Hogan!" growled Paul Booker. Major Disaster was another one who had done the unthinkable of going honest and had even been sort of a member of the Justice League for a time. Fortunately for him, it hadn't stuck to him, and he'd fallen back to his criminal ways again. "We don't have time to lay in on each other. Petty revenge has got to be side barred so we can work together. Otherwise, it would be safer for us to just sit here in our cells."
"He has a point," admitted Killer Wasp, the son of the Yellow Wasp, one of Wildcat's foes. "We just need a way to get out of these cells."
The prisoners instantly went quiet as the guard station door started to open.
"They're bringing in Repro and Shatterfist!" Carom hissed from his cell where he had the best view. Carom was a redheaded metahuman with superspeed powers, only varying from other speedsters in that he could ricochet off of hard surfaces without damaging himself. In Hector's opinion that was probably a good thing since Carom seemed to be quite clumsy, probably due to an inner ear problem that occurs when moving at super speed.
"Do we take the chance, gentlemen?" asked the Dummy.
"Hell yeah," agreed the Killer Wasp. He whistled a quick tune that could be heard through the cell block.
The first guard coming in, confirmed that the doorway was clear and was leading Repro in when he heard the whistle.
"Quiet down in there!"
Repro, almost out of his teens, looked around wearily, having been roughed up by the guards, was confused as to why anyone would purposely break the rules of noise, getting themselves signed up for a brutal punishment.
But then the whistle had not been meant for Repro. Shatterfist's ears perked up at the signal, one that had been arranged long ago. Simply being that whoever heard it, if they were in a position to take over the guards, to do so immediately. Because he was a martial artist on top of being a metahuman, his hands and feet were shackled together. And that is where the guards made their mistake. It wasn't just his hands and feet that were weapons. His whole body was a weapon. He dropped to his hands while kicking out with his feet, catching the guard behind him in the groin and propelled him into the other guard behind him. Twirling on the ground, he knocked the guard in front of him down, then kicked out and knocked him out. He leaped to the wall and jumped off it just in time to miss being shot by the rear guard who had been scrambling to his feet. Shatterfist was on him in a moment and crushed his windpipe.
Not stopping to savor the moment, Shatterfist was at the guards' office before the door could be closed by an overweight guard stationed there.
Confronted with the still shackled prisoner who had just taken down four guards, he began to tremble.
Shatterfist, his face emotionless, leaned in close to him. "If you wish to live, unlock those cells."

Non-Powered Wing of Iron Heights – 1st Level
Despite all the noise going on out in the yard, five convicts on the lower level of the Non-Powered Wing were nursing their woes. It had been a rough two weeks for them. First, they have had to put up with the construction and remodeling of most of their level. Warden Wolfe was often updating cells to hold various powerful prisoners. The second problem, or the biggest problem was the affect the newest prisoner that transferred in was having on everyone else on that level. The newcomer had only been there two weeks. It had been enough to damage all of them.
"There should be betting going on. Anyone want to get in on that?" It was half-heartedly spoken. It was done more to try change the mood than anything else. Golden Eagle of the Aryan Brigade refused to be called anything except Golden Eagle, had at one time been a blond mohawk-wearing, rough and tumble, barn-storming guy even while stuck in prison.
Razer, a giant of a man, had the cell across from Golden Eagle, still sat curled up in the fetal position, whimpering at thoughts no one else could determine. Golden Eagle had tried to talk the big guy out of whatever dark place he was in, but it did no good. Nor was Golden Eagle very good at it.
"Why do they have to make all that racket?" a voice weakly called out. Justin, made into the fourth Red Panzer by Vandal Savage, had not eaten in days. He barely had any energy and just didn't see the point of pretty much anything anymore.
Chris Epps was the youngest person in their cell block. He'd been considered a genius while in school at Sunnydale. But then his brother, Daryl, had died. Unwilling to accept that, he'd researched everything he could and even found some groundbreaking material that had been loaned to him by the kind Mayor Wilkins III. Risking everything and using instincts he didn't know he had, Chris had done the impossible and resurrected his older brother who he had always admired.
Unfortunately, he couldn't cosmetically fix the damage from the accident Daryl had been in. Daryl, not wanting to be alone for the rest of his life because of his scarred features, had Chris begin to make a patchwork mate from the bodies of dead cheerleaders. It had ended badly, and Daryl burned up in a fire. Chris, unable to take the failure and the loss of his brother, ran away. But even after all that, he could not give up the creative urge to bring dead bodied back to life.
He was finally caught outside Baton Rouge, where he'd been trying to find the written works of Anton Arcane. Missing his brother, Chris had made a family for himself out of whatever corpses he could find. He'd just finished putting together a centaur, putting the upper body of a man in place of the horse's head when he'd been stopped by Peter Cannon, the superhero known as the Thunderbolt. His only bright side was being called the 'Re-animator' by one of the guards. Once the other prisoners found out Chris could bring back the dead, they had a lot more respect for him and gave him space. Now, however, since the new prisoner had been placed in their cell block, he was using his bloody finger to write a suicide note on the wall.
Jordan Weir, known as the Puppeteer or the Puppet Master, sat in his cell with his hand out, a thread of string dangled from each finger it was tied to as if he were controlling an invisible marionette. He gave a heavy sigh which is the only way the others knew he was awake and alive.
"My, my," said a much cheerier voice. "It's getting noisier outside. I do wonder what it is all about."
No one spoke to the speaker. None of the others wanted him to focus on them. Though he was without powers, the soft words of Dr. Hannibal Lecter had done something to these men that had been worse than any injuries suffered fighting superheroes. He'd already 'convinced' a villain who had called himself the Codpiece to kill himself within the first day of Lecter's arrival to Iron Heights. Two members of the Church of Blood became the next to kill themselves. Then a member of the Kobra Cult. Yesterday, using just words, Lecter had influenced the serial killer Murmur to kill himself.
The steel door that was the only entrance or exit to their cell block crumpled. Soon, the door was being peeled away but large hands and a great deal of effort. The sounds of the bending metal could not be ignored. All of the prisoners except Razer had come to the bars of their cells and were using handheld mirrors to watch what was happening.
When the door had been removed a green-haired clown entered with a dark-haired woman on his arm. The clown's laughter filled the air causing several of the convicts to retreat to the far end of their cells.
"Ha! Ha! Let's see if the guard gave good directions." He glanced around. "Who here has a PhD?"
There was a hand raised out through the bars.
"Ohh-ho-ho! Come with me, dear! I want you to meet a true terror of culinary delight." As they entered the room, others followed after them like the extremely muscular Amygdala and the Walrus, who had headgear that included two long metal tusks. Next came Cluemaster, followed by the Polka-Dot Man. Doctor Trap came in nursing a shoulder that had been hit with a bullet. Doctor Trap's jaw had been replaced to resemble an actual jagged metal trap which he had use of to deadly effect.
The Joker skipped lightly as he led Drusilla over to Dr. Lecter's cell door. "My dear sweet Drusilla, meet Dr. Hannibal Lecter, otherwise known as Hannibal the Cannibal."
"It rhymes!" Drusilla said in her little kid voice.
Hannibal smiled. "It was the press that came up with that title, I must admit. I wasn't thrilled with the label at the time. It has grown on me though."
The Joker grinned. "A pleasure to meet you, doc. I'm a great admirer of your work. You know, I sent you a gift a year ago when you were in that prison in New Jersey. Did it get to you?"
Dr. Lecter thought for a moment before smiling. "Ah, was it you that sent me a full course meal? It was divine. How did you get my recipes? I've tried publishing my work, but it never made it the press."
"I have my ways. And it wasn't I who did the cooking. Well, not all of it. I admit to having relied on Professor Pyg for most of it. The real difficulty was to get it in to you before it cooled off. Fortunately, I was able to get ahold of one of my comrades that goes by the name of The Spook. He's very good at getting into and out of places."
"The flower centerpiece made from human ears was a unique touch." He took a moment to regard the female at the Joker's side. "Hello, my dear. You are a vision of loveliness that brings joy to these dreary halls."
She was looking up and slowly spinning in a circle. "Edith says that the sun has been hidden behind a veil and that all the dark creatures should come out and play."
Joker glanced back at Cluemaster and snapped for him to come forward and interpret.
Cluemaster nodded to the man behind bars. "Basically, she says with the sun not able to shine on us, we should all come out and do whatever we want."
Joker turned to Hannibal. "Do you concur?"
Hannibal considered. "From what little I know of her psyche; I would have to agree with him."
There was a slight cough at the door.
Joker frowned. "Oh, yeah. And this here is Dr. Moon. He's the one that told us you were locked up in this hoosegow."
Dr. Moon used a handkerchief to wipe the blood from his lips. Then stepped forward. "Dr. Lecter and I know each other. We have communicated mostly by letters. Though I was invited to one of his infamous meals. The meal was delightful, even despite learning that it had once been a politician." He tutted slightly. "I think it would have been much more enjoyable if you had chosen a young, healthy athlete."
Hannibal chuckled. "I made the selection in a moment of passion. He was raising my taxes despite his political promises not to."
The Joker nodded. "It was justifiable homicide if you ask me."
"You ate him before he would eat you," simplified Drusilla.
Doctor Moon nodded while Cluemaster chuckled quietly.
"If I may," started Hannibal. "What are your intentions?"
"Right to the heart of the matter," remarked Joker. "While getting to know my little sweetie," he paused to give Drusilla a tender kiss on her forehead, leaving a bloody, ghoulish lip print there. "When she brought up Iron Heights, it got me to thinking, and I remembered that you had been sent here recently."
"You must have some good sources," remarked Hannibal. "I was under the impression that my transfer here was being kept hushed due to a following I have."
Joker shrugged. "Someone always talks. That's why I kill a lot of my peons. Well, that and it is funny to kill them. The looks on their faces are just so surprising when I turn on them." He walked around to see the occupants in the cells.
Behind the Joker, Cluemaster and Doctor Moon looked uneasy at this revelation.
"And myself?" Hannibal asked, bringing the matter back to him.
"Hmm? Oh, yes. I was going to have Drusilla make you into her childe."
"You mean for me to become a vampire?"
"That may not be wise," remarked Dr. Moon.
Joker gave Dr. Moon an indignant, yet comical, look. "And why is that, Dr. Party-pooper?"
Dr. Moon ignored the insult in order to convey the threat he perceived. "With his domineering personality, Dr. Lecter may be transformed into a vampire who would undermine you eventually and try to overthrow you."
Joker frowned. "And what do you think, doctor?" he said, turning the question to Hannibal.
Hannibal Lecter considered, knowing that his answer may see him destroyed. "It may be possible. I have only had one patient who was a vampire, both before and after he turned. I only have limited information of how the new personality of a fledgling vampire presents itself. Therefore, I have a counterproposal."
The Joker and Dr. Moon were intrigued. "And that is?" asked Dr. Moon, to the Joker's annoyance.
"That I stay as I am - alive, and yet still provide my help to your endeavors."
"And why would I allow that?" Joker asked.
"Several reasons. One: you need someone that can go into the sun and not be destroyed at times. Two: I will be less threatening to your base of power because I will lack the powers of a vampire. Three: I think your lady friend will like taking sips from me now and again. I like to think I am a superior vintage that should be sampled over time."
It was only then that the Joker noticed that Drusilla was holding Lecter's wrist to her mouth and lapping up of blood as if she were a kitten and the blood were cream.
The Joker tapped his finger on his chin as if in contemplation. "Well, the misses likes you, and I think you are housetrained. There is a lot to be said about that." He turned to Dr. Moon. "You have anything to add?"
"Yes. Dr. Lecter, the other occupants near your cell, they seem very distressed; are you the cause?"
Hannibal smiled. "I was bored and had to amuse myself."
Dr. Moon nodded respectfully. "Can you restore them to some semblance to their original personality? In their current state, they would only serve as bags of blood. Soldiers are required for our endeavor."
He was gently stroking Drusilla's hair as she continued to drink from his veins. "Let me have fifteen minutes to speak to them and they will not only be themselves, but also happy to join your vampire army."
Dr. Moon frowned. Then looked to the Joker. "I believe he would gain a strong mental hold on your forces. He must be terminat-yerauuuugh!"
A spray of acid squirted from the flower in Joker's lapel. "Sorry, doc. I don't like being told what to do. Your services are no longer required."
Dr. Moon fell to the ground screaming in agony before suddenly turning to dust.
Joker turned to the surprised Cluemaster. "Be a dear and get a broom and mop. It's gotten rather dusty and wet in here." He paused to sniff the flower in his lapel. "I'm so glad I had that chaplain bless that acid before I let the others drain him."
Cluemaster stumbled back into one of the low-level prisoners from Blackgate. Cluemaster quickly sent the thug to look for a broom.
"Thirsty," rumbled Amygdala, interrupting the mood. He began to shake the bars to Razer's cell.
"Ah, yes." The Joker tapped his chin. "Our Amy over there needs a guidance counselor from time to time. Doc Moon was helping in that area, but now Amy needs a new person to show him what goals he should strive for."
Lecter gave a sly smile. "I've read about Mr. Helzinger. An interesting subject. I've actually thought about several different stimulations to see how they would affect him. As a mental exercise, you understand?"
Joker nodded, then told Cluemaster to open the cell door for Dr. Lecter.
Meanwhile, Dr. Trap and the Polka-Dot Man began to tear the bars off the cells for the other prisoners.

In the East side of the Women's Wing of Iron Heights
Tar Pit knocked over two more guards as he cleared the way for the others he was escaping with. "You sure this is the way to go?"
Evan McCulloch, the second Mirror Master, picked up a gun from one of the knocked-out guards. "I had to find someplace that Warden Wolfe wouldn't suspect me of having a stash."
"Less talking and more walking!" insisted Leonard Snart a.k.a. Captain Cold. "Or running if we are able."
Tar Pit tore through the bars, tearing them open as he went so the others could get through to the next wing.
Weather Wizard shot a guard in the knee cap that had been coming behind them. "I'm not sure I'm happy with Gizmo freeing us!"
Doctor Alchemy snorted. "It depends on if what he said about vampires attacking the prison is true or not."
"I think it's true." Weather Wizard tugged on Dr. Alchemy's shoulder so that he would look behind him.
They stared for a moment as a several vamped-out people raced toward them with only two stopping to pounce on the screaming guard that had been shot in the knee. The recognizable figures of Signalman, Mirage, and Lady Spellbinder in their costumes led the vampires in the race to get to the Rogues.
Hector Hammond began to project himself mentally into the minds of the living throughout Iron Heights in order to inform them with who they were dealing with as well as what they have to do to take them down. He added the little information about the origins of the vampires that he had found in the mind of a minion of Amanda Waller's that Warden Wolfe had disregarded at the beginning of the vampire attack on the penitentiary. Some of the guards made the deadly mistake of believing that the telepathic villain was feeding them false information and thereby making them only think they were being invaded by vampires. It cost them their lives, and many were then used to become fledgling vampires.
There was a roar from up above and everyone stopped for a moment before the ceiling gave in, spilling a shower of concrete and rebar into the crowd of vampires. Mirage and two inmates from Arkham were crushed, each turning to ash within seconds. Several bodies from up above tumbled down amongst the debris. The villains Cinderblock and Girder fell through the hole with several vampires. A strange villain named Coil bounced down like his body was a human spring. A lone blond teenager fell through the hole and landed on the rebar which pierced him through the abdomen. Hammond was able to identify the injured teen as the speedster Inertia. But then two battling gorillas fell through the hole and crushed Inertia before the teen came to consciousness.
One of the gorillas was Grodd who everyone recognized. The other gorilla was one that was less known, and Hector Hammond had to pluck the information from one of the nearby guards who did research on various superhumans as he was trying to be proactive of any possible future inmates and how best to deal with them. Gorilla Grimm is said to have left Gorilla City for Gotham City where he began a business where he sold advanced technology to various supervillains and gang members. Evidently, he had been apprehended and placed in Blackgate Penitentiary, because now his face was vamped out and he was proving to be a match for Gorilla Grodd.
Cinderblock had been knocked down twice by the frenzied gorillas and had had enough. He kicked out with his legs, knocking one of the gorillas away through a wall. Grodd, dripping block from various places, turned and glared threateningly at Cinderblock for knocking his opponent away, then turned and charged after Grimm to continue their battle.
Everyone stared after the gorillas in bizarre fascination until the vampire Onomatopoeia made cricket noises and thereby disturbing the spell of stillness. By that time most of the Rogues had made into the female wing of the penitentiary. Cinderblock and Girder swore and raced for the entrance as well. The for-hire villain known as Coil was bouncing away only to be pounced on by the vampire known as the Bouncer who was able to match his movement.
Several vampires were leaping down from the hole in the ceiling, including the Fisherman, Pteradon, Firebug, Tiger Shark, Captain Murder, Catalyst, Thrill Devil, Shame, and Funky Flashman.
Meanwhile as soon as Cinderblock made it inside the female prisoners' wing, Blacksmith and Girder began sealing the entrance while the female prisoners Lime and Light sent out beams of energy that seemed lethal to the vampires if them hit them in their head or heart area. Lime had hit Thrill Devil in the groin which dropped him in his tracks. While Lime was laughing at her lucky shot, a gun was heard firing twice. Blacksmith was shot in the head and Lime was struck in the shoulder. Outside, the western-styled villain called Shame blew away the gun smoke from the barrel of the gun he had liberated from a dead guard.
Another female prisoner, Yasemin Soze, had gained a gun from one of the guards and now shot it at Shame, hitting him twice in the neck, shattering his spine. It was enough damage for him to suddenly turn to dust. Most of the remaining villains chose to get to cover least they became the next target.
"Don't know why I'm running from them," groused Cinderblock as he blocked up the last of the entrance. "It's not like they are after my blood. I don't have any anymore." He looked in annoyance as the Aryan villain known as Blind Faith was wailing in a corner. She had blood around her from trying to kill herself, but the others would not let her.
True, Hector Hammond telepathically answered Cinderblock. But they still have a use for you. I have been in contact with Professor Radium who is with the vampires even though he is not one of them. They could not turn him due to his radioactivity; his blood would have been lethal to them. So, instead they have made him their very abused slave.
"They ain't making me their slave!" barked Girder upon seeing the image of Professor Radium in his mind.
"Crap!" Tar Pit shuddered, knowing the vampires couldn't drink his blood either since his body was made of tar. He looked around at the female prisoners who had also been freed by Gizmo remotely. There were four guards huddled in a corner, striped to their underwear and tied together. There was a fifth guard that had been beaten bloody, castrated, and had the word 'rapist' carved on his forehead and chest. "Vampires. Aren't they a type of demon or something?"
"Yes," answered Fauna Faust, the daughter of Felix Faust. "They have the memories of their human host body. Most keep their human personality, but a few really engage their demonic nature."
"How do you know all that?" asked Yasemin Soze.
"One of my nanny's was a vampire," she said with a shrug. "She told me all sorts of stories. My favorite were about the group known as the Scourge of Europe."
Yasemin Soze shook her head. "Your father was crazy for allowing that."
Shado, a bow-wielding assassin, checked the downed Blacksmith. "Blacksmith isn't dead. She's just knocked out. That bullet hit some of the metal on her head and bounced off." She examined the injury more carefully. "I do not know the extent of the damage due to the metal around her head, but it looks slightly indented."
"She's going to be very ornery when she wakes." Magenta held a blanket around herself as she shivered. She took medication to help her keep calm and not let her powers get out of control. She was only overdue by an hour, but the fear of what was going on was speeding up her metabolism and she could feel herself slipping.
Rhonda Kelley was one of the people looking out at the vampires. "Hey, the vamps are being shot at by a new group of guards." She did a doubletake. "One of the vamps looks like the lunch lady from where I went to school. She went all psycho and tried to poison the entire high school with rat poison."
Memories of Sunnydale came unbidden into her head. She and her friends had got in some type of ritual circle accidentally and had been possessed by some hyena spirits. They had eaten the baby pig mascot, and then later they had killed and eaten Principal Flutie. After they had been unpossessed, she and her friends could not bear to be around each other due to the memories it would bring up. Finally, Rhonda had had enough and left Sunnydale to run away to Oregon. Once there she had joined a militia compound. It was nice for the first three weeks, and then some a-hole had tried to rape her. Something in her snapped and she bite through his jugular before he could do anything to her. Sometime later the other members of the compound found her eating his heart. She had escaped after killing two more members of the ground and four of the attack dogs. The militia actually called the cops because they couldn't catch her themselves.
After almost a week of running, Rhonda had put three cops in the hospital before they knocked her out. Someone determined that she must be a metahuman because of how she had fought and took down so many people. After the trial she had been sent to one of the metahuman penitentiaries and had been sitting on her heels ever since. The other women in the penitentiary gave her space once they learned she was a cannibal and had sent several cops to the hospital.
"Where'd Mirror Master go?" asked Tar Pit, who was looking around. "He had a plan of some kind."
The dark-haired Touch-N-Go jerked her thumb down the hall. "He hightailed it down there with Bonny and Carmen. You know… The Body Doubles. Cold, Alchemy and your Wizard guy went with them.
Rhonda decided to go see what they were up to and ran down the hall. She heard a male voice in the Women's Shower room, so headed inside.
"What do you mean you can't take us out?" screamed Weather Wizard. "You said that this is the mirror you needed to get to."
Mirror Master grunted as he hoisted several packages out of the mirror to Dr. Alchemy and Captain Cold. "Our illustrious warden, Wolfe, blocked me from using my mirrors escape through. I couldn't even enter into Iron Heights to help others escape. I don't know if he got someone magical to limit me or else learned how some of my tech works to block me. Either way he's a bastard." He reached in and pulled more out from the mirror. "But I planned ahead. Cold here told me to pack us a provisions basket for a day we'd need it."
"I don't remember that," Cold said.
"It was at that bar that Guy Gardner opened. Warriors, remember? You were hoping for a fight, but Gardner was way out in outer space, so we just got blitzed instead."
"Ok. I sort of remember that."
"Anyway, you got pinched the next day by some dog Green Lantern called G'nort."
Cold was glaring now as he was starting to remember some of those events.
"Anyway," stated Mirror Master. "I gather a bunch of items to make us a care package. I knew we'd all be in Iron Heights unless that Waller woman got ahold of us like she did Boomerang. I spend a month or more of learning everything I could about what was happening at Iron Heights. Finally, I heard that a large mirror was being sent to the Women's Wing for their shower room. I snuck into the manufacturer and modified the mirror some and added our stuff to it."
Bonny Hoffman stuck her head in the mirror. "It's all dark in there."
"I said the damn warden did something, yeah? Though I didn't think it would be that dark. Might have something to do with the black dome over all of Iron Heights."
"You sure you can't walk us through there to some other location?" asked Weather Wizard.
The Mirror Master was starting to open packages. "Would I still be here if that was a possibility?" He pulled out his green headgear and grinned. "Besides, we get to have fun now. These people will see us as the heroes, yeah? That's irony, that is."
Snart was looking at something that he was holding in his hand. "This… this was my sister's." He held up one of Golden Glider's skates.
Mirror Master shrugged as he started to change into his costume, heedless of the females around them. "I just grabbed all the stuff that was in the place you told me about."
"I thought some thief had pinched it all. Sold it to some collector on the internet," Snart growled. "I hired a guy to scoure the Internet for any sign of the stuff being sold off."
"Nope. I just did what you told me to. It's working out for us now, too."
Marco Mardon stepped between Mirror Master and Captain Cold. "Now is not the time," Weather Wizard told Snart.
Bonny looked over the ice skates. "I don't want to step in on such a touchy subject, but you guys are going to need all the help you can get. And I just want to add that I am rather good at ice skating."
Snart frowned. Finally, he shoved the skate towards her. "This is only a loan."
Bonny stifled her squeal as much as she could. "Is there anything Carmen can use?" she asked, referring to the other half of the Body Doubles team that they were.
"I got some trick boomerangs and spinning tops, a heat gun, rainbow googles, music pipes and several odd things that belong to the Trickster. Not sure which Trickster, so your guess is as good as mine."
Albert Desmond hefted his old element gun from when he was going by the name Mister Element for a time. "It's not the Philosopher's Stone, but it will do." He began checking it over to see what condition it was it. "Damn, I am going to need a few minutes. This thing needs regular cleaning and maintenance to work right. It's been a while since this thing has been maintained."
Mardon, the Weather Wizard was looking very happily at the miniature raincloud he had conjured in the showers with his wand. "I'm good. It's not my most recent model, but it could still tear this place apart if I need to."
Carmen Leno was looking over the unusual items that Mirror Master was spreading out on the bench. "I am good at playing the flute. But does the Pied Piper's pipes come with a manual or anything?"
"Nope," responded Mirror Master. "Never understood how he pulled that off. Hell, it took me nearly a year and a half to figure out some of the mirrors Scudder's had created. There are some I still don't know how to use. The man was brilliant. Fortunately for me, he left good notes. If he hadn't, there never would have been a second Mirror Master."
Captain Cold and Weather Wizard exchange a cold look on that subject. Accepting a new Mirror Master in their group had been difficult. And Evan McCulloch's personality and drug problem didn't help. It was only times when he somehow comes through for them, like providing them with their weapons in a prison break/vampire attack, that they are glad to have given him a chance to be in the Rogues.
"What about her?" asked Dr. Alchemy.
Rhonda, who had been watching, was now realizing all eyes were on her. "What?"
Bonny gave Rhonda a nervous grin. "You want to pick a gadget?"
Rhonda wasn't sure what to make of the sudden inclusion after being a pariah on the block for so long. "Ah, what… what do you recommend?"
Bonny looked to Carmen for help.
Carmen wasn't as nervous of Rhonda as Bonny was. Carmen was of the mind that much of the story around Rhonda was just hype. Plus, Rhonda seemed to want to be alone, so Carmen just ignored her. "I've heard you waking up with that weird laughter of yours." She looked through some of the Trickster's bag. "You could use some of this and maybe take on the moniker of the Jester or something like that if we get out of here."
Rhonda stared at her incredulously. "You want me to become a supervillain?"
"At least for tonight, dear. We may need all the fighters we can get." Carmen gave her a wild grin. "Who knows what tomorrow will bring us, right?"
Rhonda started to laugh. It was creepy and reminded Snart and Mardon of the Joker, so they both slowly aimed their weapons toward Rhonda in case they needed to use them on her. They could tell that this lady was more of a wild card than they were used to dealing with.
There was shouting outside. The black woman that used the moniker of Peek-a-Boo popped into existence outside the door. "If you have something to stop these monsters, we need it now! They're breaking in! They already got Blacksmith and Blind Faith!"
Bonny grabbed some of the tops in a bag along with the boomerangs. "Get these to Sara Quinones. The one they call Flashback. The tops were designed by the Top and the boomerangs were made by Captain Boomerang. Her power to being able to travel back in time three second should give her the edge we all need."
Peek-a-Boo grabbed them and popped away. Weather Wizard sighed and went to the door. "Let's do this, Cold."
Cold nodded and followed, holding the visor that belonged to the Rainbow Raider. "We will see you soon, Alchemy."
Dr. Alchemy nodded. "I have Heat Wave's heat gun warming up, too. I will bring it when they are ready."
Bonny was putting on Golden Glider's skates as well as looking through the other things that had belonged to Snart's late sister, Lisa.
Carmen gave an experimental blow in the pipes which caused several tiles in the shower to shatter. "Um, can I switch to the heat gun?"
Alchemy regarded her. "Can you hit what you aim at?"
Carmen grinned. "Is water wet?"
He grinned. He checked the gun, then quickly told her the basics in order to increase heat intensity and range. "You are going to want to put the heat suit on, it can get quite hot at times."
"Sure, but it doesn't do a thing for my figure."
"It's better than getting third degree burns." He chuckled and went back to finetuning his Element gun.
Rhonda was no longer laughing, but instead poking through the bag of things that belonged to the Trickster. She wasn't sure about everything, but the animal in her wanted to fight. She'd figure out the shoes that let her walk on air later.
Rhonda raced out to a scene of chaos.
Menagerie had her alien parasitic symbeasts that live under her skin fly out and attack several of the vampires to deadly affect.
Cyborgirl, the niece of Sarah Charles, had had her body rebuilt after LeTonya Charles destroyed it by using the drug known as Tar. Sarah had used powerful cybernetic implants that gave her similar abilities as the superhero Cyborg. LeTonya had chosen to take her new chance and become a supervillain.
Now, Cyborgirl was attempting to blast the vampire known as Firebug. Captain Cold attempted to take advantage of Firebug's distraction, but Firebug's sharpened senses must have alerted him. Firebug's flamethrower was not up to Captain Cold's ice gun, But then Signalman shot a flare gun at Cold. Cold ducked and rolled. He fired again, but Signalman leapt to one side and Captain Cold's shot hit Cinderblock's legs instead, freezing the concrete entity just before he could crush the vampire Funky Flashman. Cinderblock growled and smashed the ice of his legs. Once free he looked around for a new target.
Shado wielded two large shards of wood from smashed sections of the guards' desk. The woman that Rhonda had identified as her school's lunch lady had charged towards her shouting. "Vermin! You are all filthy animals that need to be destroyed! You ruin everything you tou-"
Shado easily ducked the fire axe that the lunch lady had and then stabbed one of the shards of wood into the insane vampire's heart. As the vampire turned to dust, Shado caught the fire axe and swung it at another vampire, hitting it right in the mouth, sending broken teeth and parts of its jawbone flying amongst the other fighters.
Zizz, a leftover female Thanagarian that had stayed on Earth after an invasion years ago, was using one of the guards' batons to attack the female vampire known as Captain Murder, a member of the super-villain team called the Fourth Reich. "Someone tell me what these things are? How do you kill them?"
Before Zizz could get an answer, the girl team called Double Dare, a duo of murderous, acrobatic sisters tackled her from behind. Despite Zizz's stronger body due to her being a Thanagarian, she could not overpower the three female vampires who had latched onto her and were guzzling her exotic blood down, making her weaker and weaker.
Dervish, a speedster that was usually kept drugged, made the mistake of running for it, not seeing the fishing line in her way that the vampire known as the Fisherman was using to try and snare Touch-N-Go. Instead of getting his original quarry, the Fisherman had his rod and reel nearly pulled from his grasp as the super-strong line pulled taunt before slicing Dervish into two halves. Funky Flashman rushed forward to grab the dying speedster and sank his fangs into her neck to drink whatever remained of her blood.
Meanstreak of the New Extremists was creating burning energy spikes that she created with her hands to hold back the vampire Catalyst, who is considered a living pharmacopeia, was trying to touch her in order to induce her with the effects of any drug he wants. Onomatopoeia managed to come up behind Meanstreak and said, "Bop!" as he hit her on the back of her head. Catalyst and Onomatopoeia both feasted upon her.
White Lightning found that her power of control men did not work on vampires. Instead, she focused her powers on Professor Radium, the vampire's slave. Hector Hammond saw what she was trying and helped her by lowering Professor Radium's resistance to her. Professor Radium then attacked the injured Thrill Devil and a few of the weaker fledglings that were hanging back and looking for an opening. Thrill Devil was soon dust and several other fledglings, too. Professor Radium did not survive his uprising.
The blond prisoner called Miasma was using her ability to generate green corrosive gas. The vampire Pteradon was using his wings to force Miasma back. Wildside, a werewolf style villainess who was also one of Miasma's teammates in Team Turmoil, leapt onto Pteradon's back and used her sharp claws to tear his wings. Pteradon crashed them into the wall knocking them both out. Miasma ended up dragging Wildside away from the fighting.
Camorouge, an international assassin, was trying to use her skills against Tiger Shark, but was finding it difficult fighting against the vampire's strength and agility. She was glad that Tiger Shark kept his helmet on so she did not have to see his demonic face. Flashback used one of the specialized slinky toy to spin metal coils around Tiger Shark, trapping him temporarily. Camorouge was catching her breath as Doctor Alchemy came out and used his element gun to transform two Arkham prisoners-turned-vampire into silicone statues.
She turned to thank him, but Captain Cold tossed her a strange visor.
"Put it on. It belonged to the Rainbow Raider. And, no, I don't know how it works. You get the fun of figuring that out. Just don't hit any of our side."
Camorouge took that as a cue to go to the rear to see what it was that he had given her. She hadn't heard of the Rainbow Raider before, but the USA had numerous ridiculously named heroes and villains. Rhonda Kelley jumped into Camorouge's spot with her hyena-like laugh spilling out even as she threw some phosphorous marbles into some vampires faces.
Weather Wizard was using winds he had created to throw off the shots of the Pinball Wizard, who wore a orange bodysuit and hood covered in small stars and crescent moons and had pneumatic tubes connected to each arm fired multiple metal pinball balls with lethal force. Captain Cold only took a second to freeze the Pinball Wizard in a block of ice. Weather Wizard only had a short reprieve as a woman that Hector Hammond identified as Nyola, a Aztek priestess who could control the weather, came to pit her powers against his wand. Weather Wizard actually liked this fight even if it was going to be a difficult one.
Tar Pit had had enough of this nightmarish fight and was pouring some of the tar that made up his body down the throat of Fire Bug. "You want some of me? Well, choke and burn, baby!" The struggling Fire Bug could only fight back for a few moments before turning to ash due to the flames and tar.
"There's more arriving!" called out Peek-a-Boo, just before she was knocked out from behind by the boy villain, Kid Karnevil. Kid Karnevil grinned maniacally as he threw her over his shoulder as he took her away to consume.
Other prisoners were also being taken by the attacking vampires. Magenta was claimed by Lady Spellbinder. White Lightning was taken by Captain Murder. Fauna Faust was blinded by Signalman and then claimed by him. Cyborgirl had been knocked out by an electrified lead weight on the end of the Fisherman's fishing line. The Fisherman quickly claimed her and took her away to feast. Touch-N-Go went down to her former teammate in the Hybrid, Pteradon. And numerous other female prisoners. They were each overwhelmed and taken to be turned to fledglings of the demonic horde.
Shado staked a vampire called Death Dealer who had been a low-level Green Arrow foe when Cinderblock pushed forward with his arms wide and low to get as many vampires out of the women's wing as possible. Girder followed Cinderblock's lead and grabbed several vampires and tossed them out, not wanting to waste the extra time it would take to kill them.
"We are going to be overrun!" called out Shado. She pointed to Captain Cold and Doctor Alchemy. "Do something about it!"
Cold nodded. "Alchemy. Make an exit. I'll close the front door." Saying that, Snart began firing his cold gun at the area around Cinderblock, trapping the cement being in place. Girder, seeing this, jumped back in time to not get caught in the growing block of ice.
"What the hell, man?!" Girder shouted.
Cold was finishing up closing up the ice wall, trapping Cinderblock. "I knew you'd get out, but I had to sacrifice Cinderblock. Do you think I made the wrong choice?"
"…no." Girder did slam his fist into the ice block of the Pinball Wizard, shattering him everywhere before the vampire pieces turned to dark slush.
Carmon used the heat gun to fry several vamps that were still in with them. Bonny skated in the air and used a necklace as a bolo to trip over female Arkham patient. They were all working together.
"Damn it!" Weather Wizard snarled. "That Aztek priestess got away. I wanted to win that fairly!"
"I got us a door," called out Dr. Alchemy. "Wolfe added some new things to the walls that I had to work around."
Cold gave a curt nod. "Change my wall of ice into something more durable. I'll make an ice toboggan for the wounded. You can transform that next."
"On it," answered Alchemy. "I'm thinking iron."
Yasemin Soze was helping Light move her sister Lime, who had a rough bandage over her bullet wound. "I need more bullets if any of you see any around."
"No clue. Nice shooting by the way. Professional?" asked Cold. He started to make the ice toboggan.
"Yes. Family tradition."
Cold began looking around. "Where's Mirror Master?"
Mirror Master stumbled out from where he had been in another room. "Just checking to make sure none of those things were still in here."
Cold snarled. "Wipe your nose, McCulloch. Drugs right now can get us all killed. Don't mess up like that again."
"Just needed to take the edge off."
"We need you at your best! Drugs make you unreliable! Now let's pull it together and get out of here before those monsters break in again and tear out our throats!"
Mirror Master rolled his eyes. "If it wasn't for me, we wouldn't even have our weapons to fight back with." He flicked one of his mirrors towards a corner where the vampire of Funky Flashman was caught in the bean of light, changing him into glass that broke apart into fragments.
"That's only going to take you so far," interrupted Weather Wizard. "But we need to cease arguing and make with the getting out of here."
Dr. Alchemy transformed the ice toboggan into something that would not melt or freeze. He added some padding, too.
Light helped her twin sister, Lime, onto the toboggan. Miasma did the same for her friend, Wildside, who was whimpering some as she started to wake.
Menagerie raised a hand. "Won't the scent of blood draw those things after us? Wouldn't it be safer to ditch them here instead of leaving a trail right to us?"
"Hey, she's probably right!" Girder was looking at the bloodied bandage on Lime's shoulder.
"She and her sister are the best at taking the vampires down," pointed out Flashback. "And even when injured, she was still using her powers. Her powers are not as bright, but that may be to blood loss or pain making her lose focus."
"Both," admitted Lime.
"They come with us," insisted Cold, not leaving it up for discussion. "You. Bug lady."
Menagerie looked at his in surprise at that description of herself. "You better not be referring to m-"
"Just send some of your creature things to spy out ahead of us. We need advance warning if we are going to make it. Alchemy, make a rope for the sled. Girder, you are pulling the sled. Light, try and stay near the sled. The rest of us will lead the way."
"I'll take lead!" called out Rhonda Kelley, as she leapt forward to the opening that Dr. Alchemy had made.
Flashback was hefting the various tops and boomerangs she had been given to get a feel for them. She had used her superpower to go back in time three seconds to get an idea of how each weapon works. "Someone should watch that one. She's dangerous.
"You volunteering?" asked Miasma, who was keeping a cloud of green acid mist around her.
"I will," Shado responded before tempers could flare. She had a wooden mop handle as a stake-like weapon now. Plus, she had found a few chemicals in the janitor's closet that could be made into a strong acid if she just had the time to put it together.
"I'll go with you," Cold responded.
Shado gave him a look. He gave a slight shake of his head. "I've studied every piece of information about the layout of Iron Heights that I could lay my hands on," Cold added.
At that they moved out while the prison around them continued to supply them sounds of screams and gunfire.
