I didn't even notice so many mistakes that happened in the conversion to the from .page to .text. I am sorry for that. Also thank you everyone for reading the story and I am trying to get the second chapter soon.
I was two days old when I saw the silhouette of a man looming over my cradle. He had beautiful silver coloured hair but his eyes half hidden behind his hair looked sad. It was dark and the only light came off of his hair which seemed to reflect light which wasn't even there. I remember.
He caressed my forehead one last time then turned his back to walk out. Wanting to see him, I tried to turn and I did. Through the bars of my wooden cradle, I couldn't see much but I still saw. The person, who was most likely my father, turning his back to me, for the last time. Or so I thought.
The next day I remember waking up in the arms of a woman. Every aspect of her contrasted each other but in such a beautiful way. Her grey eyes, the very colour of the storm but her hair bluer than the clear sky. The woman had such an amazing smile. Bright and warm as the sun on a sunny day.
But the smile was strained and sad, not because she did not want to smile. She wanted to, God knows how much she wanted to smile, laugh and play with the baby in her hands but she couldn't as fate had other plans for her. She looked as if she wouldn't be able to see me again.
I saw her lips move like she was saying something but I have never been able to remember what that was.
Some time later, her hands became slack but she did not let me fall. There was a constant beep sound nearby and people in white clothes started running towards us. Then I again saw her face.
It would truly be the last time I saw the face of the woman, smiling with her eyes closed as she finally looked to be in peace. The face of the woman who had given birth to me. The face of Mina Tenshin, the face of my mother.
Third Person Perspective
About 2 years later
Kuga Mikio was a person who most people would have said was very kind. He ran an orphanage in Hosu City. Not the best place to have an orphanage in, of course that was why there was only one of it there.
Kuga ran this orphanage as this place had the lowest land and construction prices and the only ones he could afford. There were a lot of donations sure but only once in a while was a donation substantial. Most people donated just for publicity.
Life was hard in Hosu, heck life was a very hard for most. Hosu didn't have your run of the mill, flashy villain attacks. No, it had crimes, just normal cold hard crimes.
All the small gangs and criminal organisations had a pact to never do public villain attacks. Because of that very few heroes came here as it almost never made news to solve or prevent such crimes.
The crime syndicates were smart and made use of it. The crimes that happened in Hosu ranged from mugging to murder to rape.
The condition of Hosu was very bad. Even then only a few heroes came here, some thought that if they made a dent in the crime rates in the city then they would become famous but they found out very quickly how hard it was and no one wanted to do too much hard work, did they?
There were some among those that stayed, maybe they wanted to save the city or maybe they still believed that they could be famous, who knows but either way they had a good resolve and that helped the city, even if it was very little.
Kuga did not like the fact that the children were growing in such an environment. He wanted to shift the orphanage to a city with low crime rates like Musutafu. That way the kids did not have to see or know these things at such a young age.
Though that seemed a little impossible at that time. Kuga certainly did not know that his wish was going to fulfilled soon enough.
It was good that most of the kids now were toddlers. Most of the teens and young adults had been either adopted or they went to make their own path, he certainly did hope that they made it far in life.
The toddlers did not totally understand what was crime or what happened outside the orphanage. Well, except one of them but he was special and Kuga very much hoped, no he knew, that he was going to do something to change everyone's lives.
His only hope was that the kid wasn't broken by everything that happened and was happening.
A few days later
He was looking out of the window, there wasn't much to look at but he still kept looking. Every now and then, one could see a crime taking place outside the window.
A mugging, a beatdown, drugs being ingested, illegal deals, sometimes even murder, anything could be seen from there but it didn't matter as most of them wouldn't even be known.
He couldn't do much, of course. What could he do? Call the police? The corrupt police officers would just tell the criminals about any raid or arrest, so they just go out of the city before they are caught and then lay low until some other thing makes the police busy and they are forgotten. Stop them himself? He couldn't do that as he was too young.
There wasn't much to do so he just watched as if the window was his own television, albeit a very bad one as it only had the criminal mystery channel with very bad shows.
That was when one of the mothers, the female caretakers were known as mothers to all the kids, came and told him that there was going to be an announcement. She was smiling so he knew it was a good news, so he asked her to pick him up. She sighed, giggled and picked him up.
He could walk, of course, but it was very tiring and it was also very fun to be picked up and moved around.
When they reached the main hall he saw father, Kuga Mikio, standing in the middle with almost all the children around him in a circle. He was waiting for them and some other kids.
When everyone was there, Kuga cleared his throat and then said while smiling, "Hey kids, I have a very good news. Can anyone guess what it is?"
One of the tweens replied that maybe they were gonna get some gifts. When Kuga shared his head, no, everyone started complaining and started asking him to just say what it was.
Kuga relented and said, "Our orphanage is shifting to Musutafu, thanks to a very large donation by Yuriko Tanabe. She will be here tomorrow to meet all of you. All of you get your own rooms now and it will be much bigger than this place. Also candies." He said pulling out a bag of candies from seemingly nowhere. At first everyone was perplexed but one by one everyone started laughing and cheering and eating candies.
That was one of the nights the staff had to work their hardest. Two dozen toddlers on a candy high are a little tough to put to sleep.
And just like that the future seemed just a little brighter.
One day later
Yuriko Tanabe was somewhat famous, when you're the head of the 3rd largest corporate in Japan, you would be famous. And if you're the head at the age of 17 and a successful one to boot, then you would be a lot more famous and that was what Yuriko was.
She became the head of Saisho Corp after the death of her parents in a car accident when she was 14 years old. As sad as she was, she made a promise that she will make his parents' dream a reality and in time she did, making the company grow at a rate that seemed impossible. From the rank 31st to the 3rd in just under 3 years.
As she reached the milestone, she donated money to all the orphanages in the country depending on the need and that day she was at one of her largest recipients. She had brought some gifts for the kids.
An orphanage in Hosu, she didn't think there would be one but here it was, with cracked and dull walls, bland and scraped wooden door, a couple of broken windows, an old sign which was too washed out to be readable and a welcome mat which now just said wlco which she would have found funny if not for the situation. The dull evening light probably made it look much worse than it actually worse.
She was received by many members of the staff, all very happy to see her and welcoming her inside. When she went inside she saw a few dozen kids, and lot of them toddlers, looking at her with curious eyes.
Suddenly they started cheering and hugging her which startled her (and her bodyguard who was just behind her) but soon she also started laughing and hugging them back. Then she and her bodyguard gave all of them the toys they had brought. She played with the kids for a long time until most of the kids were exhausted.
That was when she saw him, the one who would change her life forever if you could call it forever. Even though she was somewhat tired from running around with the kids, she was much more curious so she went near him.
He was staring out of a window absent-mindedly so he was surprised when she tapped his shoulder. He looked towards her and smiled, which she returned and asked as she would ask any toddler, "Don't you wanna play with me? Come on it will be fun."
Now it was her turn to be surprised when she heard him say, "Nah, I am good. I get tired fast and I just kind of exercised some time ago so you know.", as he shrugged. She wasn't expecting him to reply like that. She asked in a shrill voice, surprised, "How old are you?"
"About 2 and a half"
"How can you speak so nicely when you're 2?"
"Oh I read a lot of books and the caretakers help me if I am confused with something."
"What?!"
"Yeah… oh shoot, you must be confused about the age. Ok ok I get it now. I don't really meet many new people so I forget that I am a little different. Let's talk for a while and I will explain as much as I can."
And talk they did, for almost all night, they talked about a lot of things. How he was smarter than others his age, how he never forgot anything and a lot of other things about each other.
Soon, he started getting sleepy, and so was Yuriko, so she told him that they should stop now and get some sleep. He reluctantly said yes and asked with sparkling eyes, "Will you come back again to talk? It was fun. And maybe this time we could play too"
Yuriko said yes but then said, "We talked so much but we never introduced ourselves. I am Yuriko Tanabe, Head of Saisho Corp., and 17 years old. Nice to meet you"
"It's my pleasure. My name is Tenshin, Hoshi Tenshin and I am the head of…. myself?", he said slowly, "that didn't make much sense. Well anyway I am 2"
She laughed, said goodbye and made sure to remember that name. She walked towards the exit, promising Hoshi and herself that she will definitely come back.
