A/N - It took some time mostly because I am very lazy and also that I couldn't end it faster. It has a lot of world building which I tried to make seamless but I am sure that I thoroughly failed. In any case hope people like it.

"Heroes aren't born, they are made." That's the quote many people used in the old world or as it is known now, the Developing Era. It was meant to signify that there was nothing different with the people who helped others, just that they chose to help others and chose to become strong enough to do so. Something along the lines of "All men are born equal."

Nowadays those quotes are just jokes to the people of the Quirk Era. Quirks are a genetic mutation that started with the glowing baby in Xing Xing City and then spread like wildfire.

There are all kinds of quirks nowadays, some make the people like super heroes of the Developing Era; transforming into kaiju-esque beings, breathing fire hot enough to melt iron, super strength capable of destroying cities with one punch.

Sometimes quirks are just trivial in nature; greater flexibility, better eyesight, glowing hands. These can provide some more comfort in life, maybe they are good for particular jobs, maybe they just help in day-to-day chores.

These are just the beginning of the variations possible, which tend to infinity more and more every day.

There are also quirkless people, these are the ones without any superpowers. The number of quirkless people keeps reducing where it is now just 5% of the total population. And even among them most are just old people, young kids being quirkless is very rare. The quirkless are a minority in a world where almost everyone is more powerful than them, so its obviously hard being one.

When the quirks came into being it caused chaos all around the world. Many people started using their newfound powers for crimes and for their own profits. Many people who had quirks that modified their looks were vilified by others, even their own family just because they looked different. In these chaotic times, several people, without caring for themselves, begun helping and saving everyone. These were called heroes back then. After which the job of being a hero was created, they were called the Pro Heroes.

Nowadays, though, the Pro Heroes don't always embody their origins. Many of them care for their own success; to become famous, to become the strongest, to become the best; instead of the people. Sometimes even the best, disappoint people and are unable to save others. Sometimes even All Might, the best there was in Japan, fails to save someone.

The nine year old Hoshi had a blanket wrapped around him. There were police cars, ambulances and even a fire truck there, some with the blinking lights on and some with them off. A nurse nudged him a bit, urging him to sit down and rest but he didn't relent. He walked to the tallest person there, the hero All Might, number one hero in Japan and considered to be the best of all the heroes till now.

All Might was taller than him by a lot, about 2 feet taller than him but that didn't stop Hoshi.

He screamed at a miserable-looking All Might, "It was all your fault, All Might. ALL YOUR FAULT. Why couldn't you come sooner? Why couldn't you? Why?" Tears were flowing down his face as he spoke, his face was heavily bandaged with some deformations and blood around the right cheek but that wasn't even acknowledged by anyone at that moment.

At that moment everyone was looking at All Might waiting for a response that would never come.

Four years ago

A beautiful young woman was standing in the front yard of a huge building. Her brown hair was in a short pony tail and her blue eyes gleamed with happiness. She was wearing an expensive black suit specially tailored for her. She looked like she had just came from a company board meeting, which she actually had.

Yuriko looked at the building in front of her with pride. It was only about two years ago when she went to the old orphanage in Hosu. Now she was looking at its successor.

It was named Ikuji Orphanage and was in a great contrast to the old one; clear white marble like walls decorated the outside, pillars seemed to hold the entryway, a huge sign with the name adorned beside the solid oak door. It looked beautiful in the dim red sunlight of the evening.

Though she never needed to visit the other orphanages she funded more than once, she had visited this particular one at least once a week, generally more. She wasn't needed here per se, but she visited it to meet the person who had become her new family.

After her parents accident she was distraught, even though she tried to hide it very much. She had felt lonely ever since and until she met him. He was just like her in a lot of ways and a lot different in others but that was why he quickly became dear to her.

She had brought him what she hoped would be good news to him too as it was his birthday today. She knocked on the door like she had every time she visited and one of the caretakers opened the door. He was a young man maybe only slightly older than her.

"Ah I was afraid you wouldn't be visiting today considering how late you are. I guess you were stuck in a meeting?" He said with a bright smile.

"Yup, though I managed to complete it sooner than normal and came as soon as I could. Couldn't miss his birthday now, could I?" She replied with her usual smile that she used for professional encounters.

"Well the party is already over." At that he started looking a bit darker and a bit pitiful.

"Thanks for telling me, where is he now?"

"At the coffee table in the backyard porch" He said while pointing towards it, though she didn't really need that, and then he went somewhere without acknowledging her anymore.

She went towards the direction pointed while waving at some of the kids that knew her. She thought about how there were a lot more kids living here now than before and how even then it didn't seem crowded, though she quickly let go of the thought and started walking a bit faster toward the backyard.

When she reached there she saw the birthday boy, Hoshi Tenshin, sitting on a fancy wood chair. He looked to be about 7 or 8 years old but she knew that he was still only 5. His face had the cute but going to be handsome quality. He looked a bit down, with his somewhat long but decidedly beautiful silver hair slightly covering his storm grey eyes. Those eyes flickered with happiness as soon as he saw her walking toward him.

"Yuriko-onee-san, you came. I thought you would have been too busy today." Hoshi said while combing his hair with his hand to make sure his eyes weren't covered.

"Sorry Hoshi, I would have came sooner but I couldn't end the meeting fast enough.", she said as she sat on a chair near him, "So how was the party? Was it any fun?"

"You already know that it couldn't exactly have been fun, considering my condition but don't worry some of my old friends were with me but I really missed you during the party but I figured you wouldn't be able to come considering that today was collaboration meet, by the way how did it go?"

Hoshi was quirkless. She, of course, knew that as she was the one who went with him for the test. Most kids get their quirks around the age of 4 and rarely are there late bloomers, though even they have quirk metagenes in their blood. Hoshi didn't have that, which meant he did not have a quirk, a very unpleasant surprise to everyone who had thought his quirk was hyper intelligence or such. The quirkless were highly prejudiced against in the world, an example would be the earlier caretaker's sudden expression change. She forego these thoughts and thought about that day.

That day was one of her very important meetings which she couldn't have missed in any circumstance, especially because Hoshi was the one who had advised her on this. He might have been just 5 years old but his ideas were very good. He had a knack for business and almost all things related to intelligence.

"It went really great, thanks so much for the suggestion and I am sorry for the party", she said hugging him, "and any way I couldn't miss your birthday. What kind of sister would I be if I didn't attend my ototo's fifth birthday?"

"It was nothing really and I am pretty sure you would have came to the same conclusion anyway." He was blushing because of the praise and the hug.

"Well either way, thank you. And work aside, don't you wanna know about your present?"

His eyes sparkled as she said that. Yuriko loved the rare look of childish gleam on him. He urged her to continue with his hands as she took out her phone and went through it.

On his last birthday she had given him tons of books on robotics and biology, which were his favourite subjects, while on the one before that she had given him some strategy games and a couple of really antique comic books but this gift would be the most unique and, she hoped, the most loved.

After she found the document she wanted, she gave him her phone. Hoshi was a bit confused but still took the phone and started reading through it.

In just a few seconds tears started coming out of his eyes as he snapped his head up to look at her. He jumped towards her and hugged her more tightly than he ever had. He hugged and cried while a huge smile adorned his face. Yuriko also started crying lightly as she looked at the night sky and the stars that just started showing up.

She prayed to her parents and said chuckling to herself while choking back a few sobs, "You are officially my brother now, Hoshi. You shouldn't cry like that. What will people think of me when they see you?" Even though she said it like that she didn't really care for that. The only person she cared for right then was Hoshi and that feelings were reciprocated right back at her.

This was definitely better than any gift Hoshi could have thought of and better than any gift he would ever receive and as they hugged each other, all of Yuriko's doubts disappeared and she was sure that she made the right choice.

One year later

After Hoshi was adopted by Yuriko, he went to live with her in the mansion in Minato City in Tokyo. The mansion was probably in the top 10 largest residential buildings in the country while its garden was the biggest garden/park in the country. Even then, the only people living there were Yuriko and Hoshi along with the several dozen maids, butlers and caretakers for the mansion.

It took some time to accommodate but after a few months, it started feeling like home to Hoshi. It was especially because he could live with his sister now.

He helped her in the, now family, business; giving her ideas for collaboration with other companies on various projects, suggesting other companies and factories to establish or to buy, even putting some investments in stocks of other companies. Both of them had fun working together and the Saisho Corporation flourished greatly.

It was now the second largest company in Japan but Yuriko was the richest person in Japan, due to the fact that she owned a lot more of her companies' stocks than Most people would recommend. It was very risky but it did give her greater freedom to work and it did pay out quite well.

As the result, Yuriko was just as busy as ever, if not more. She spent a lot of her time in her office, working. Hoshi, however, spent his time in the library studying for his high school exam. Yuriko had managed to get him a chance to get his high school diploma much earlier than it was possible.

That was not all, though. They played strategy games and went to play in the garden in their free time. Even though they went for a jog daily around the house, they didn't do many physical activities in the garden. Their pass time for the garden was tending to the various flowers and plants, playing games while sitting on the garden table or just talking around about their day. They also made computer programs together, though Hoshi was a lot better at that than Yuriko. Their programs were sold for a lot around the world, as A.I.s and automatic workload programs.

They had planned to get Hoshi into school but he didn't really want to because he didn't like how people looked at him when they found out that he was quirkless. The only people close to being his friends were a couple of kids from the orphanage but even they were drifting out now that they had started making new friends themselves.

These things didn't bother Hoshi, though, not when he was living with his family having the best time of his, though young, life. He believed it will be all fine as long as that was the case.

Three years later

Hoshi and Yuriko had gone to a mall for shopping that day. They always did that while incognito as many reporters had tried to swarm them before, so Yuriko was wearing a white and blue striped t-shirt along with some light blue jeans with a black hat, while Hoshi was wearing a red t-shirt with a blue unbuttoned shirt over it and dark blue jeans and a red and black hat to hide his white hair. It wasn't rare but it was still a bit uncommon so it needed to stay hidden.

Hoshi had an abnormal growth even though he was quirkless. Hoshi was now about 5 feet tall, which was just a bit shorter than Yuriko's 5"3'. Yuriko had always teased him regarding this, saying that he might scrape the ceilings soon.

They tried to be as unnoticeable as possible but sometimes it turned out to be a bit difficult. Yuriko, just as always, looked very pretty and even Hoshi was undergoing the transition from cute to handsome. This had made others focus on them a lot of times though they did always remain unrecognised.

They did not have the bodyguard with them as it was a clear sign that they were someone important. They had done this many, many times before; they went there to buy clothes or games but mostly just to have some fun outside.

At about 12 o' clock, when they were having lunch at the food court, the sound of an explosion rang from somewhere near them. It was hard to pin where it was from as the sound echoed but Yuriko quickly got her bearings and started running towards what she thought was the opposite direction while holding and dragging Hoshi with her.

As soon as they were about to be out a barrier stopped them. It was a transparent barrier with just a tint of blue, definitely the result of a quirk. When they tried running the other side they found some people blocking their escape.

There were 3 people, one looked female while the others male. The woman had what could only be described as a fire outfit. A orange coloured t-shirt with a black jacket decorated with red flames, along with red pants. One of the men had a grey shirt designed with blue circles and the other had full black outfit.

"Well, this turned out to be a lot easier than I thought it would be, Yuriko Tanabe." The woman spoke with a smirk.

"Yeah, I mean who goes to a mall without security when you're under so much heat by the Yakuza. I just had to put you guys in a barrier and it was done. Though I don't know who the kid is." The man with the grey shirt spoke while he laughed. The guy in black outfit just nodded.

"Hmm, our target is just her, and I don't do buy one get one free so maybe we can just let him go?", she said while taking up a thinking pose.

"Yes, please let him go. He hasn't done anything. Please just let him leave." Yuriko pleaded to the gang but the other woman just started laughing.

"Not so easily, girl. You did help the government find evidence against one of the biggest Yakuza groups in the country. And that kid is definitely someone important to you so he won't leave here scot free."

"I can pay you 10 times more than they have, just, please let us go. Please." Yuriko pleaded once more as Hoshi tried to figure out the situation and an escape plan.

The woman tutted and said with a fake apologetic face, "Sorry, hun but it's not about the money, it's about the honour. Can't do that."

That was when it all went worse. The barrier went down, as the man in black ran towards Yuriko. He was much faster than normal and before Yuriko could react she was dragged closer to the group. Hoshi, who didn't comprehend that, was just standing when the woman caught him and put her hand around his mouth.

It had been about 10 minutes since the explosion, but the Pro Heroes were still nowhere to be seen. The man in black took out a knife and pointed it towards Yuriko.

Hoshi tried to scream but the hand blocked most of the sound. Yuriko was about to be stabbed when the woman interrupted, "Wait! Why not have some fun with this, we have the time right?" The question was pointed towards the man in grey shirt. He looked like he was concentrating very deeply.

He didn't open his eyes but said, "Yeah, none of them should be able to break the barrier for at least 10 more minutes. If All Might comes though, then we need to run."

That was when Hoshi noticed the blue tint of the barrier through the open ceiling. The heroes were trying to get in but couldn't because of the barrier.

Hoshi thought about how easy it would be if he had an appropriate quirk to save his sister, or if his sister had a better quirk than Short Circuit but that wouldn't do anything. He tried to think of a plan, so to distract them and reach closer to the 10 minute mark, he bit the woman hand when she was not closing his mouth completely.

The woman screamed and then cursed, "Fuck, you little shit. You know what, fuck it. I will have some fun." With that she pushed Hoshi to the the ground and grabbed his neck, ensuring that he couldn't get up.

"Girl, you should look properly at what happens when you fuck with the wrong people.", she told Yuriko but not taking eyes off of Hoshi. She put her other hand on the right side of his face and said all while smiling like a crazy person, "I am letting him off easy, you know. Because he's a kid and all."

Her eyes dimly shone red as Hoshi started screaming and thrashing around, and the woman started laughing. A fire was formed around her hand and his face but the most heavy wounds came around his right cheek. The man in black punched Yuriko, who was crying, thrashing and begging for them to stop, in the guts with which she started losing consciousness.

The woman who had been laughing all along seemed to calm down and stopped her quirk. Hoshi and Yuriko were both barely conscious by then. The man in grey shirt told the others, "We need to leave, the heroes are trying a lot harder than I thought they would."

The woman nodded and signed the man in black to continue. She help up Hoshi's head and made him look towards her sister. "I think you should see how useless you were, though I can't blame you. You were against Infernis."

Hoshi couldn't do much as her sister was stabbed in the heart 3 times. As soon as they were sure she would die, they started running. He didn't know how they would leave as the whole mall should be covered completely but he didn't care.

Hoshi tried to get up and walk towards Yuriko. He failed the first time and fell but he managed to get up the next time. He walked towards and sat next to his sister. His face was bleeding and it hurt him a lot as he was crying. He spoke her name quietly but she still opened her eyes. Hoshi started focusing on her, he tried to block the bleeding but it wasn't working.

"Its fine if you can't save me but I would appreciate if you did." She tried to laugh as she said but only blood came out of her mouth. Hoshi was silent as he still tried to do all he could.

"You know, I am sad that I won't be able to see what you become; a businessman, a scientist, a hero or heck maybe all of these together. Maybe I will be able to see it, who knows." She stopped and sighed. Then she breathed again. "Don't worry ototo, everything will be fine. Just remember that it wasn't your fault and I love you. More than anything in the world."

Hoshi started screaming, "No, no, no, NO, NO! Please don't leave me. Please I will be all alone in this world. Please don't leave me." He put his hand on her forehead to caress it but something else came to his mind which went away as suddenly as it had come. '5 Hours'. Hoshi ignored it and when he looked at Yuriko she was smiling. A smile so bright that it could have ashamed the sun but it had the same sadness he had seen somewhere before. She smiled as if she knew that everything would be fine and she wasn't going to die.

Yuriko looked so calm as lifted her hand to caress Hoshi that someone might confuse it with a normal day. She kept her smile as her hand dropped. Her eyes lost their shine.

Hoshi didn't know what to do but he knew that she was gone. Nothing was bringing her back. He closed her eyes with as delicately as he could. Some people had started approaching him but he didn't hear them. They were calling out, but he didn't hear them. He didn't notice anything.

In about ten minutes Hoshi was sitting in the back of an ambulance which was standing outside the mall. A bandage was wrapped around his head and a blanket around him. He heard a loud crack of wind and looked towards it, afraid that Infernis had come again but all he saw was All Might. All Might in all his glory, the strongest and best hero in Japan, was there. He looked around for a policeman and asked him about what had happened. The answer shocked him at first and then saddened him.

"I got distracted in saving a couple of accidents one the way. I knew there were other heroes there who could have saved them but I couldn't resist it. I am so sorry about this." He told the police officer. The police officer said something but Hoshi tuned it out.

'He stopped even though he knew it was fine? Even though this was higher priority. So he's the reason she died. He's the reason she died. He's the reason she died.' Hoshi repeated that thought again and again as he saw nothing but red.

This was when Hoshi developed a deep hatred for All Might. This was when he promised himself that he would make Yuriko's last joke a reality. He promised that he would be a hero to save others and do his best. He promised that he would be better than All Might.

And more than that, he promised that he would take his revenge on Infernis and the others, and make Yuriko proud.
