The Brawl of Gods
Ascension of the Fallen: Chapter 29
Perseus, the rightful king of the gods, moved forward with a warrior's gait, stalking his prey.
Onus, the king of the giants, and Perseus' sworn rival stood, leveling his spear at the god in challenge. The tip glistened gold and black with power.
Perseus was undeterred.
He moved forward, sending forth an intricate, weaving basket of rotating golden threads. Onus, king of the giants attacked, trying to slam his spear into the basket.
The resulting effect was deadly.
The basket's threads, formerly so intimidating and powerful, were torn apart promptly by the spear. Onus had moved so incredibly fast that it didn't seem like he had moved at all to the naked eye.
Still, Perseus, the fallen god, was undeterred. This fight was one of many for his ascension back to his rightful throne, and he wouldn't let one giant get in the way of it all.
He was stronger, and wiser now. More powerful than he had been in the previous millennia since he was born, and more potent than ever. He was sure that no one but the primordials and protogenoi themselves could stop him now.
Onus, his rival? He wasn't really a big enough of a threat to be his rival. He had no true rival.
Thalia Grace watched with bated breath as Perseus approached the giant, who seemed to be his rival.
They engaged in fierce combat.
But not just them.
No, others joined in as well.
The other giants.
Each of the gods were only just barely able to keep one giant occupied, so there were inevitably other powerful giants left over.
Still, Perseus looked unafraid as they joined forces against him.
In fact, he was winning.
There were several seconds before the giants suffered damage.
The fact that the giants would lose this fight was something that Thalia could clearly see.
In terms of time, it was at most a minute or two.
Perseus was intrinsically physically faster than the giants.
He struck with incredible force and no hesitation.
He fended all of them off with a single sword.
Each time any of the giants made a single move, just a little bit, they started to lose their advantage in numbers.
That continued to repeat itself one time, three times, four times, five times.
While the giants were moving, they were digging their own grave.
It was their own funeral.
A little, again a little, they were gradually being cornered, although it seemed like they were winning initially.
Each time one of them received a powerful attack, they managed to counter it with their own power, but their stance collapsed just a bit.
Each time the giants went in to attack, they had the initiative reversed on them.
It seemed that they had no team or group coordination at all, causing them to be unable to fight such a superior opponent.
It was pure, innate ability.
There was certainly nothing but ability there.
Thalia could clearly see that Perseus was striking down the giants, all at once.
Perseus was overwhelmingly exceeding all of them.
Even looking through my eyes, Thalia could clearly understand it.
It was a brilliant technique.
He was moving with the most minimum movement possible, yet he was rendering the giants absolutely powerless at their fastest speed and most powerful states.
If one could realize that, they would most likely, no, always, end up with those movements.
The giants futilely tried to use their powers, but every time they did, Perseus used his own to negate them.
It was pure swordplay and time manipulation.
The giants were being ridiculed, staggered, gaps were being created, attacks that one absolutely can't take were being guarded.
And then, the giants were unable to do anything.
All of his means disappeared.
It was checkmate.
Because if one pitted Perseus against the giants ten times, Perseus would win every single time.
It wasn't a mere opinion; it was simply a fact.
A sword embedded itself in a gut of a giant.
A triad of golden strings brutally cut another giant in half.
Four pitch black blades of darkness speared another four giants through the stomach.
Incredible blasts of godly power left the giants reeling.
The leader of them, Onus of the giants, was crumbling in the face of adversity.
Great flashes of golden light, with intermittent periods of darkness and another blinding flash of light prevented Thalia from seeing what was going on.
Roars of pain seemed to break the sound barrier, causing shockwaves to burst and eardrums to rattle.
The earth was quaking, and it took Thalia a moment to realize that she herself was shivering. Her frame was trembling.
Her very being was shaking, her bones rattling, and as she looked around, she noticed everyone else was the same.
Every demigod, frozen in shock, and every monster, frozen in fear.
That was how awe-inspiring Perseus, the god of time, mountains, and darkness, was.
Even the gods gaped in shock at the pure destruction being wielded with no qualms.
Storms of the great blackness gathered overhead, rumbling in warning.
From the heavens above, beams struck the ground with tremendous force, and golden strings weaved together like wide baskets and dangerous, powerful webs of threads that would rend flesh to pieces.
In the distance, volcanoes across the globe exploded, hot magma converting to lava and sizzling down to the unsuspecting towns.
Mammoth mountains and spikes grew instantaneously, shooting up from the ground. Other mountains split in half; some mountaintops were sheared off, sliding onto the ground.
Enormous mudslides and avalanches were triggered in response, and new geysers and chasms were created, wreaking havoc among the mortals, their towns, and their cities.
Beams of golden arcs of power caused time stops in certain regions, freezing everything in its path. In other regions, mortals inexplicably aged years in the matter of minutes, and plants and animals withered and died like flies, and wilted like plants before the great rush of tsunamis.
It was destruction in its purest form, it was the cause of millions of mortals praying to the gods in fear, and awe, and respect.
All from the pure stress unto the world, caused by one god.
He struck the ground with his glowing sword.
Impossibly, almost immediately, the ground reamed in two, bisecting as a ravine appeared in its place, going deeper than the eye could see.
Thalia felt herself shiver uncontrollably, and, for the first time, under some primal instinct, was able to move.
Her muscles were shocked into moving.
Move! Move!
She turned and sprinted back, feeling pure depth, and despair, and hatred coming from that ravine.
Others moved back as well, an intrinsic, powerful, primal fear gripping their bones and beings as they sought to remove themselves from the overpowering presence that came from the ravine.
The ravine reached down into the deepest parts of the Earth, Gaea, so deep that it reached a different realm entirely.
Tartarus.
The Pit.
It was uncontrollable.
The Pit, that is. Tartarus.
It wanted to suck everything in, even more so than before its captor had been sent to be reborn.
No, the primordial of Pit himself had not faded.
Instead, he was being reborn. But, without a true ruler, the Pit was only a... bestiality.
Uncontrollable, unconquerable, and indomitable.
It was without sentience; it was only a raging beast that sought to consume everything in its anger and hatred and hunger.
And, then Thalia realized, the giants were gone.
Out of sight.
They had vanished into thin air.
Thalia had no idea what had happened to them, but they were gone.
Dead and sent to the Pit to be reborn, or faded, or had fled.
Whatever had happened, they had won.
Perseus had won.
Even though it took at most two minutes, it could have been called the fastest performance.
AN: Sorry for the short chapter, but I wanted to get at least something out for all of you. Unfortunately, I'm loaded with work right now, even during this holiday season, so this is all I could get out.
In the meantime, you can go checkout my other book, Never Change, which I consider to be my best work. All of the normal Percy-awesomeness included! Biweekly updates, only from the presence of me having prewritten chapters. I know right, I have consistent updates for once, just not on this book unfortunately.
Happy Holidays everyone! See you all in 2023!
