Sam gently hugged Jack, the tears she had held in all day freely flowing down her face. Jack sighed as he held her in his arms, torn between comforting her as a friend and CO and enjoying the woman of his dreams in his arms. He felt her heartbeat pick up moments before he felt her lips softly kissing his neck. He pulled away a little and found himself leaning down to kiss her softly. Sam returned the kiss with passion for a moment before she felt Jack push her away.
"Jack?" Sam asked softly
"We can't do this Sam" Jack replied
"You don't want me?"
"Hell yes. But that isn't why and you know it. Sam, I want you, but not like this. Not when you will wake up and hate yourself for it in the morning. Not when I have to pretend it didn't happen. Not because you're sad."
"Oh"
"When this does happen, I want to be able to tell the world. I want to take you to dinner, or up to my cabin. I want this to be a happy memory, not one full of regrets. Do you understand?"
"Yea. I guess I should go, sir"
"Probably best."
Jack watched Sam leave and looked up when she paused at the door.
"You're a good man Jack," Sam said softly
"Yea, somedays I wish I wasn't"
Sam smiled before quietly closing the door behind her.
