JJ was packing her last bag when Will arrived home., noticing her other bags waiting by the door. He walked down the hall towards the main bedroom and stood in the doorframe, watching as she zipped up the bag. "Where are you off to?" he asked curiously.
JJ turned around to look at him "I am moving out" she said quietly.
"Oh, you found an apartment?" he asked, and JJ shook his head. "then where are you going?"
JJ sighed slightly "I'm staying with Emily till I find my own place."
Will chuckled slightly "of course you are."
"Oh come on Will, she is my best friend and she offered me the spare room. It will be good for us; we won't be butting heads here all the time or spending our money on hotels" she said as Will walked away. She followed him down the hallway "do you have a problem with Emily?"
"No, not particularly."
"Then why do you always get like this when she is mentioned?"
"Come on, we both know you are in love with her, and you have been for a very long time. You just need to admit it so we can stop playing this little game where it seems like I'm the crazy one making up scenarios."
"Okay, but you do seem a little crazy Will. The reason we split is because of all the arguments we were having over the job and all these little bits and pieces."
"Okay then JJ, look me in the eyes and tell me that you don't love her" he said, turning to face her.
Her eyes scanned his face before meeting his eyes "I can't, I do love her, she is my best friend."
"But if it wasn't more than a best friend type of love you would be able to tell me, just be honest with yourself' he sighed slightly. "Did you ever cheat on me?"
JJ's eyes filled with hurt "no Will, I never did. I loved you. I loved you, the boys, this house. I chose you and I chose this life."
Will nodded his head slightly "I'm sorry, I had to ask" he said taking a step towards her. "You know I'll always love you Cher. I'm sorry things ended up this way but it will be better for us" he wrapped his arms around her and she hugged him back.
"Goodbye Will" she said quietly as she pulled away. She went back down the hall to the boys rooms and said goodbye before loading her bags into the car and heading to Prentiss's house. When she arrived, she knocked on the door, when there was no answer, she fished the key out of her bag and opened the door, dragging her bags upstairs to the spare room. Once she set her bags on the floor, she pulled out her phone and called Prentiss.
"Hey, I just arrived at your place, I hope you don't mind I used the key to get in."
"I gave you the key to use JJ, it's fine. I'm just getting us some lunch I should be there in about twenty minutes" Prentiss said before hanging up the phone.
JJ wondered back downstairs to wait for Prentiss, making herself comfortable on the couch as she picked up one of the photo albums from the coffee table. As she flicked through, she couldn't help but smile, looking at all the photos of her and the girls over the years. She came across a photo of her and Prentiss on the jet, one she hadn't seen before, she had her head resting on Prentiss's shoulder, eyes closed, and Prentiss was glancing down at her, smiling. JJ couldn't help but smile at the photo, thinking about all the times she tried to steal glances at Prentiss, or when Prentiss would steal glances of her.
"look me in the eyes and tell me that you don't love her" Will's words wrung through JJ's mind. He was right. She couldn't tell him she didn't love her, because she does love Emily Prentiss. For years JJ didn't fully understand her thoughts and feelings, and didn't believe that she loved Emily, she was her best friend, that was all. But as JJ thought back through the years, she realised how wrong she was, and that she loved her, she just wasn't ready yet. She remembered when they had to fake Emily's death, if JJ really thought Emily had died, she wasn't sure if she would able to cope, when Emily left to go to London, JJ felt empty without her, when she was kidnapped it was Emily she imagined. JJ felt dumb that for all these years she just put everything to being 'best friends' and she wished she had realised earlier.
The sound of the door opening pulled JJ out of her thoughts, she quickly closed the book and put it back on the coffee table before getting up to greet Prentiss at the door.
"Hey" Prentiss said, smiling as she stepped in and shut the door behind her. "I got Thai; I hope that's okay. I was craving a green curry."
JJ smiled and nodded her head, taking the bag from Prentiss so she could take of her shoes. "That's fine, I love Thai" she said, walking into the kitchen. She grabbed some placemats and cutlery, setting them on the table before taking the food out of the bag and sitting down.
Emily came into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of wine and two glasses, joining JJ at the table and pouring them both a glass. "How was Will when you left?" Prentiss asked. JJ took a sip of her wine before setting the glass back on the table. She thought to herself before she answered. She couldn't exactly tell her that he wasn't thrilled about the idea, because then she would ask why, and she couldn't give her the truth. The one thing that was tough about their friendship was the Emily could read JJ like a book and would pick up on the lie. "JJ, are you okay?" she asked again.
JJ shook her head slightly as she looked at Prentiss "hm, yeah sorry. I'm fine" she said, smiling slightly. "He was okay, we both knew this was for the best so it was okay" she said as she began eating, hoping Prentiss wouldn't ask her anymore questions. Prentiss just nodded her head before she dug into her meal.
