Brandon POV
I had forgotten how sweet and uplifting Nikki could be. If you're around her, there is no way you'll remain sad. She always knows the right thing to say. I've missed that, and I've missed Nikki. And now that I've found her again, I don't want to ever let her go.
"Hey, do you want to get coffee sometime? We can catch up," I added the last part nervously. I didn't want her thinking that I was hitting on her minutes after reconnecting. Which is what I'm doing, but she doesn't need to know that.
Nikki raised her eyebrow and smirked. This is not the Nikki I knew in the eighth grade. This Nikki totally knows that I'm trying to ask her out. At least I don't have to be blatantly obvious this time.
"So, is that a yes or a no?" I prompt, still not having got an answer from Nikki. She nodded quickly. "That's a yes. Can I have your number so we can discuss and settle on a date and time?"
Smooth, I thought. I felt a smirk of my own growing on my face. A super subtle way to get my number, but not slight enough for me not to realise. I tell her my number, and she gives me hers in return.
Nikki waved goodbye. "Well, I'll be going now. It was a nice surprise meeting you here. See you on our coffee date!" She didn't look back as she walked away, but I knew she was smiling like a Cheshire cat.
I put my camera up to my face to take a picture of her as she left. It was a spur of the moment decision, yet the lighting and the background were perfect. I can't wait to show the image to her during our 'date'. Grinning, I continued photographing the birds I came here.
