It was now the next morning, Ben was helping the PC's look through Dan's things. Tom was sat at his desk deep in thought. As far as he knew, Dan didn't have any enemies and he did keep to himself for the most part. An email came through on Tom's computer, it was Dan's bank transactions and phone records list. He quickly opened both documents and looked through them. Just as Mr King had said, Dan did pay his rent on time every month. There were other outgoings such as food, other bills and fuel. There was nothing that stood out to him so he moved onto the phone records. As expected, there were phone calls to and from Barnaby on there, some to and from Cully too. Some numbers Barnaby didn't recognise so he would have to get Jones to find out who they were. One number did stand out. After Dan's call to the station on that morning, he received a call from a number that lasted only a minute. That was the last call on the list.

Dan's phone was not among his possessions. No one knew where Dan's phone was. Probably has run out of battery by now or turned off by someone. It was highly unlikely it was going to be found. His wallet, including drivers' licence wasn't in his possessions either, so that was unlikely to be found either. His passport was in one of the boxes, along with other important documents like bank details, birth certificate and bills. There were a lot of clothes, some pairs of shoes, receipts, toiletries and a few electronics, including a laptop. Ben brought it over to his desk.

"Jones, I need you to find out who this number belongs to" Tom showed him the number. Ben wrote it down "I'll get right on it, sir. Need to find a charger for this laptop, doesn't seem to be one in any of the boxes" Ben explained.

Tom took the laptop from ben and looked at it "Hopefully there is something on here that is useful and nothing... risqué" Tom cleared his throat and went off to find a charger.

Ben suppressed a cheeky smile and got to work trying to find the owner of the phone number. He first tried calling the number but it seemed like it was no longer in service. It was possible it was a pay as you go phone or a burner phone. The phone looked like it wasn't being used anymore and most likely thrown away a long time ago. It may not be possible to find out who the owner was but Ben had to try somehow. He got to work on his computer.

Tom returned shortly from the tech department with a suitable laptop charger. He plugged it in and booted up the laptop. Luckily there was no password so he was straight in. There wasn't much on there at all. While looking through he asked Jones if he had any luck with the number. Ben replied that it was most likely a burner phone and didn't seem to be traceable now that it was no longer in use. Tom sighed; the owner of that number could well have been Dan's killer. He continued to look through the laptop and came across a file titled 'PB'. In the folder were pictures seemingly taken on Dan's phone and put onto the laptop. They were all of a PC talking to two other people but the pictures were not clear enough to see who was in them. Tom called Jones over to take a look himself. Ben scanned through the pictures and what was clear was that the PC was accepting some package from these people. Was it money, weapons, drugs?

"Sir, I don't know what you make of these but from what I can see, I think that PC was corrupt." Ben pointed out "And it looks like Dan was onto them"

Tom took a deep breath "If your theory is correct and that was a corrupt PC and they found out that Scott knew, he was killed by one of our own." Tom stared at the images before him with anger boiling inside of him. There was a bent copper amongst them. It's possible that PC was no longer in the force but they had to find out who it was regardless.

Ben gulped and exhaled. A corrupt officer, unfortunate but it happened. "What's the next course of action sir?" Ben queried.

Tom remained silent for a moment, thinking about what to do next. He looked back at the file name 'PB', that had to mean something. Could it be initials? Tom's eyes lit up, it had to be initials of the police officer. He quickly turned to Ben. "Jones, PB are initials, I'm sure of it. Find out anyone with the initials PB... or BP for that matter, that worked in Causton around that time. If there aren't any, widen the search to all police stations in Midsomer. Ben nodded and spun on his heels back to his desk and got searching on the database. Tom kept looking through the laptop and the images in detail, trying to find anything that could be helpful.

Ben's search results for police officers in Midsomer Constabulary with initials PB or BP came up with 3 results. PC Bernard Pickton, Sergeant Patrick Brown and PC Peter Butler. The sergeant was now retired and was a sergeant at the time of Dan's disappearance so Ben ruled him out. PC Pickton wasn't stationed at Causton but Ben didn't want to rule him out yet. Then there was PC Butler, he was stationed at Causton and Ben had spoken to him briefly on several occasions. To Ben, he seemed decent enough but you never know what someone might be capable of. He informed Barnaby of his discoveries. Barnaby pondered, he remembered working with Patrick Brown who also had worked closely with Peter Butler. He suggested it was a good idea to go talk to Patrick to gain more information about Peter. Barnaby told Ben to find the profiles on the three men and try and compare them to the grainy images on Dan's laptop, Barnaby himself was off to talk to Patrick Brown.
