Chapter 1
Cassandra walked through the forest, snow crunching under her feet. A cold gust of wind blew snow through her short, wavy, golden-brown hair. She adjusted her sunglasses so that they rested on top of her head, keeping, her hair out of her eyes.
Her icy blue eyes glanced down at a large black cat plowing through the snow next to her.
"This sucks." Grumbled the black cat. Cassandra grinned, adjusting her long black trench coat so it wouldn't drag through the snow.
"I love the snow. We don't get much here Kieran." She said, kicking at a snowdrift with her black combat boots.
Kieran narrowed his golden eyes and lashed his tail.
"It wouldn't be so bad if I was back in my human form." He huffed looking at his paws ruefully.
Kieran had been a big-time sorcerer a couple of hundred years back. However, he had gotten cursed by a forest goddess, to remain in the form of a cat for the rest of eternity. He'd been with Cassandra's family for at least a hundred years now.
Cassandra was from a long line of sorcerers but had her powers sealed as a child until she became mature enough to handle her powers.
She had been studying under her grandfather up until the day he died. Since then she had been working as a police informant. She was able to talk to all types of spirits which often gave her leads. As a Grimm, her family had been doing this sort of work for centuries, often using their abilities to hunt down dangerous spirits and entities. By doing this the world of magic was hidden and protected from average humans.
Her family name was quite famous among other sorcerers and witches. She was the last living member of the Grimm family and lived with Kieran in a fairly large house just outside of town. Currently, she was trying to figure out what to do with the rest of her life since her magic was still sealed.
Suddenly, it felt as if the ground beneath her feet had vanished. She gasped and Kieran let out a yowl as they fell into darkness.
Oddly, she never felt an impact. She staggered when she realized she was now standing on solid ground.
Cassandra opened her eyes and saw she was now in what appeared to be some sort of courtroom. Several men were now standing before her.
Did I black out?! She thought, as her heart began to race.
A tall muscular man with red hair and hazel eyes stood in front of her. He was wearing a red overcoat that looked like a uniform.
"Welcome to Devildom Cassandra." He said with a smile then frowned slightly when he saw her shocked expression. "...oh pardon me. Feeling a bit shocked, are we? Well, that's understandable. You've only just arrived, after all. As a human, it will probably take a little while for you to adjust to things here in the Devildom."
"Is this some sort of joke?! Did the guys back at the station put you up to this?" She said starting to get angry. Had they really just referred to her as human? Kieran had sensed the danger and hidden within her shadow. While she couldn't see him, she could feel his warmth pressed against her leg.
The man looked slightly taken aback at her angry tone. "I assure you this is no joke. My name is Diavolo. I am the ruler of all demons. Someday soon I will be crowned king of the Devildom. This is the royal academy Diavolo... Though we just call it RAD. You're standing inside the assembly hall. This is where we officers of the student council hold our meetings and conduct our business. I'm the president of said council." He spread open his arms gesturing to the room around them.
Cassandra frowned at all this information. It seemed she had not blacked out and had been brought here by magic.
Though she had heard of demons while studying under her grandfather, this was her first encounter with them, needless to say, handsome men weren't exactly what she was expecting.
"Why am I here?" She said staying guarded. If this was a prank, it was a very elaborate and creative one.
"I will explain everything to you." The man that was standing next to Diavolo stepped forward. He had wavy black hair and crimson eyes. He wore a uniform similar to Diavolo's only it was black.
Diavolo smiled and nodded in his direction. "Cassandra, this is Lucifer. He is a demon and the avatar of pride. He is also the vice president of the student council and my right-hand man...and not just in title I assure you. Beyond that, he's also my most trusted friend."
Lucifer sighed. "Flattery will get you nowhere, Diavolo." He turned back to her, a polite smile forming on his lips. "Speaking on behalf of the entire student body at this great and storied school of ours... I offer you a most heartfelt welcome, Cassandra."
Cassandra felt a twinge of irritation when he ignored her, "Answer my question." She replied coldly.
Lucifer raised an eyebrow "... interesting this one's quite different from Solomon." He appeared vaguely interested in her response but continued anyway.
"Diavolo believes that we demons should start strengthening our relationship with both the human world and the celestial realm. As a first step toward this goal, we've decided to institute an exchange program. We've sent two of our students to the human world and two to the celestial realm. And we're welcoming four students to our school: two from your world and two from the celestial realm. So, I take it you've put two and two together at this point, right? You've been chosen to be our newest exchange student. Your period of stay is one year."
Her eyes went wide, "A YEAR?!" she exclaimed, a year in a strange place against her will?!
Lucifer frowned at her outburst, "Don't glare at me like that. It's not like I will abandon you all by yourself in the Devildom. You need someone to look after you, and I think that someone should be my brother Mammon. He's the avatar of greed, and ...how should I put it? Oh, well you'll find out soon enough." He smiled as if in on a private joke and walked towards her with what looked like a smartphone in his hands.
"Here take this device. It's called a D.D.D it's a lot like cell phones in your world. This will be yours as long as you're here. Go ahead and try calling Mammon with it."
Cassandra took the phone out of his hands. Fortunately, it was very similar to her smartphone. She brought up the name Mammon and tentatively hit dial.
"Yoooo" a young man's voice sounded on the other end of the line.
"Umm... Hello?" She replied somewhat surprised at the casual greeting.
"Huh? Who the hell are ya? You ain't Lucifer." He sounded irritated now.
"I'm a human." She replied curtly in response to his tone.
"Whaaa? A human? Geez, I was gettin' all chilly here thinking it was Lucifer again. Ya should've told me right away. So, what business does a human have with THE Mammon?" He sounded slightly relieved now that he knew he wasn't talking to his older brother.
"You're apparently in charge of me." She relayed Lucifer's message to him.
"No way! There's nothin' in it for me. Whaddya even mean 'be in charge of you'? AHH, I get it now, you're the other human- the new exchange student! G'luck with that and see ya!" It sounded like he was about to hang up.
"Lucifer called for you." She said trying to keep him on the line.
"Pfft, whatever. Ya think THE Mammon would listen to ya just cause you're tryin' to scare me with that name?" He didn't believe her, noticing this Lucifer stepped forward and raised his voice so it would carry over the speaker.
"You've got 10 seconds...9...8..." His authoritative voice echoed off the walls in the room.
"YESSIR." Mammon quickly replied and hung up.
"Sounds like you had a nice chat," Lucifer said with a smirk.
She crossed her arms with a huff, "He seems reliable." Her voice was laced with sarcasm. Lucifer ignored her quip, not seeming to care.
Diavolo broke the brief pause that followed, "Now then...we still need to introduce our new friend to your brothers, Lucifer. And it's probably better if you do that instead of me don't you think?" He said, looking at Lucifer with a smile. Cassandra looked over at the other three men in the room, they were all dressed in uniforms like Lucifer's.
"Yes... As much as I dread the idea your right." Lucifer sighed.
The man with wavy champagne-colored hair and amber eyes spoke up.
"Oh come on now. Really? You should be honored that you get to introduce such a sweet and charming little brother like me!" He smiled and looked over at Cassandra.
"This one here is Asmodeus. He's the fifth eldest. He is the avatar of lust." Lucifer said with exasperation.
Asmodeus glared at him, "Wh... I can't believe you just totally ignored what I said! And not only that, you referred to me as this one. How rude!" He said looking offended.
The man with blond hair and green eyes crossed his arms and shook his head, "Hmph. At least he didn't ignore you altogether. How do you think I feel?"He said, annoyed.
"That one there is Satan, the fourth oldest. At first glance, he may seem like a responsible demon with a good head on his shoulders but looks can be deceiving." Lucifer said with a scathing tone.
Satan's eye twitched, "Aha, so I'm that one am I? Nice to meet you, Cassandra. I'm Satan avatar of wrath." He said with a charming smile.
Lucifer turned to the last man who had not been introduced. He was a very tall muscular man with orange hair and purple eyes. While everyone in the room was at least 6 inches taller than her, he was the tallest, towering over Cassandra who was only 5'4.
"Now the one there with a very grumpy look on his face is Beelzebub. He's the sixth oldest." Lucifer said.
"Lucifer I'm hungry." Beelzebub complained rubbing his stomach.
"That's too bad. Now behave yourself." Lucifer said sharply.
Beelzebub's shoulders slumped, "I'm Beelzebub, avatar of gluttony." He said, looking glum.
Lucifer turned back to her, "So... There are seven of us brothers, I am the oldest. Mammon, the second oldest, will be here soon. My other brothers aren't here at the moment but... Well, we can get to them in good time." He summed up the introductions.
Diavolo looked at Cassandra with a smile, "During your stay in Devildom, the seven brothers will lend you their strength. To keep you safe you will stay with them at the house of Lamentation." He said.
"... Wait did you say I'll be LIVING with them?!" She exclaimed. Did they really expect her to live under the same roof as seven strange men?!
"Yes, it's the best way to keep you safe. Although we will all be living together, you should still have the means to reach out to us at any given time. All of our phone numbers are already in your D.D.D." Lucifer replied.
Great, so I'm going to have to live with a bunch of wackos for a year. Fantastic. Cassandra thought.
She heard the door open behind her and turned to see a young man with white hair and deep blue eyes walked in. He appeared to be very annoyed.
"It seems the idiot has arrived." Lucifer sneered. The man stomped over to Cassandra, looking her up and down.
"HEY! Just who do you think you are, human? You've got a lotta nerve summoning the Great Mammon!" He started shouting right off the bat.
"Listen up, because I'm only gonna say this once. If you value your life, then hand over all your money now! And anything else of value, too! Otherwise, I'll wipe that stupid look right off your face... By eatin' you! Startin' at your head and working my way down until-" Lucifer cut him off with a punch.
"GAH, OWW! Hey, what's the big idea?! I thought you were gonna give me a chance to shut up before punching me!" Mammon exclaimed, rubbing his arm.
Satan smiled, "Cassandra, Mammon here is the avatar of greed. He governs and oversees all forms of it. Whenever he takes a liking to someone, they suddenly find themselves awash in money. But from what I hear, if he decides to break it off with someone, that wealth evaporates. They're left without a grim to their name." He explained.
Is grim the currency here? Cassandra thought it was very strange for her to hear.
"He's also a masochist. That's important." Asmodeus chimed in, interrupting her thoughts.
"Indeed, and it just so happens I have a job for my masochist brother." Lucifer smirked.
"Y'all stop telling lies! I ain't asked for that punch and I AIN'T a masochist!" Mammon tried to defend himself.
"Mammon, you are going to be in charge of seeing to this human's needs during this exchange. I expect your full cooperation." Lucifer said sternly.
"What?! Why me?!" Mammon nearly shouted.
"... Mammon?" Lucifer growled and his face darkened.
"Wh-what?" Mammon stammered noticing how serious he was.
"Surely, you're not going to tell me that you object to this arrangement are you?" Lucifer's tone was dangerously low. Mammon looked terrified.
"Ugh... I hate you guys! Every last one of ya! Fine... FINE I'll do it ok?!" Mammon finally gave in and turned to Cassandra.
"Alright human listen up. As much as I don't want to look after you I've got no choice. It's a huge pain in the ass and I'm too important for this kind of thing, but Lucifer told me to do it so I will. But in return, you better make sure you don't cause me any trouble, got it?" He said sounding irritated.
"Fine." Cassandra said curtly, she figured she and Kieran would get along fine without this asshole's help anyway.
"Good that's what I want to hear. As long as you do as I say we won't have any problems. Just be sure you don't forget who's boss here." He said, his words REALLY rubbed her the wrong way.
"Why can't you just let me go home?!" She demanded, looking at Lucifer and Diavolo.
"That unfortunately is not an option. You were chosen. That is something you can't change." Lucifer said, shaking his head.
"Humans, angels, demons. I imagine a universe where each accepts the other. Where we are brought together as friends. This is my dream, and I'm asking you to be the foundation for it." Diavolo said smiling.
How is forcing someone to be an exchange student going to do that?! Cassandra thought. She looked at him in disbelief and anger, she owed this man nothing.
"Come on let's get this over with." Mammon grumbled leading her away from everyone, through the door, and outside.
As soon as he's not paying attention, I'll make a run for it. She thought as she stepped outside. However, her plans were ruined when she saw what it looked like outside.
Tall gothic-looking buildings stood as far as the eye could see. Even though it was the middle of the day just a short while ago, it appeared to be nighttime. Pale moonlight illuminated the buildings and the flora around them. She was stuck here.
"...Ugh. I don't believe this. Of all the rotten luck... Why should I have to look after some human? It's insulting, that's what it is!" Mammon continued to grumble looking over at her with a sour look.
"That rotten bastard... Does he think he can scare me into doin' whatever he wants? Just so we're clear... It's not like I can't say no to Lucifer, okay?! I only agreed to babysit you because, um... Well you know...uh..." He trailed off frantically trying to find the right words.
"Anyway, it doesn't matter! Just don't go thinking that I'm scared of Lucifer or anything! Because I'm not!" He huffed glaring at her.
Cassandra shot him an icy look, "Honestly, I don't care." She said indifferently. Why did he even care what she thought of him anyway?
Mammon seemed taken aback by her blunt reply.
"WHAT?! Oh, now you're REALLY in for it...!" He exclaimed whipping around to face her. She braced herself for a fight but nothing happened.
Mammon stopped and gave her a surprised look.
"... Although, come to think of it, I'm surprised you've got the guts to talk to me like that. You're not scared? I mean I'm a demon. You do get that right?" He asked looking puzzled.
Cassandra, frankly, had seen scarier things in her 22 years, but she wasn't going to tell this asshole anything. She simply glared back at him.
"...Hmph. You're one strange human. I'll give ya that... Ugh. Whatever. Let's move on." He said passing through an iron gate into a courtyard.
The house looked like a haunted Victorian mansion and was massive. Mammon led her inside.
The entryway led to a double marble staircase and was adorned with gothic statues and framed paintings.
"This is the house of Lamentation. It's one of the dorms here at RAD. Well, it's not JUST one of the dorms. It's the dorm reserved for student council members. Lucifer, Asmo, and the others take every chance they get to insult me. Callin' me scum, say I'm a money-grubber and stuff..." He trailed off looking slightly hurt but then he smiled.
"...but I'm an officer on the student council, same as them. The elite of the elite, the top of the RAD social pyramid. In other words, I'm a big shot. A REAL big shot. Like, even regular big shots are impressed at what a big shot I am. So don't you go thinking that I'm just some ordinary demon. I'm nothing like the peons walking the hall here." He boasted with a self-important smirk.
"By the way, Diavolo is even MORE of a big shot. He's so important he's got his own castle. That's why he doesn't live here with us. Anyway, I'll show you to your room." He had finally shut up and started towards the stairs.
To Cassandra's dismay, the silence didn't last.
"Now, I'm gonna give you a piece of advice, so listen up. If you wanna survive even a day here in Devildom, you'd better listen REAL close to what I'm about to say. If it ever looks like a demons about to attack you... Runaway. Either that or die." He said. Before Cassandra could even think of a way to respond to that, someone from the top of the stairs growled at Mammon.
"How about this? I vote for YOU to die, Mammon." The man who spoke had smooth indigo hair and amber eyes. He was wearing a uniform like everyone else.
"D'ah... Levi!" Mammon said startled, stopping in his tracks. Mammon glanced back over to Cassandra looking nervous.
"...Uh, l-listen up human! This here is Leviathan, the avatar of envy. He's the third oldest of us brothers. Since his name is sorta hard to say, you can just call him Levi! Okay then let's move on." Mammon said in a hurry. He tried to slip past Levi but he blocked his path.
"Mammon, give me back my money. Then go crawl in a hole and die." Levi growled, glaring at Mammon.
"Come on, I told you I'd get it to you! I just need a little more time... And you still want me to die even after I give it back? That's real harsh, Levi!" Mammon whined, throwing his hands up in the air.
Levi crossed his arms, "You need a little more time? How much more?" He said skeptically.
"A little more, okay?! A little more means a little more!" Mammon avoided his question.
"You've been telling me that for the last 200 years, Mammon." Levi growled, narrowing his eyes.
"Hey, no! It hasn't been 200 years! It's been 260! Get it right, Levi!" Mammon said, as if it would help his case.
"Unbelievable. Seriously Mammon, you're-" Levi was cut off when Mammon interrupted him.
"I'm what? Scum? Is that what you're gonna say?" Mammon said defensively.
Levi shook his head,"... you're a lowlife and a waste of space." He sneered.
"Hey! Come on, that's even worse!" Mammon shouted.
"Whatever... Just give me my money. I need it to buy the Blu-ray box set of Journey to the Devildom: The Tale of a Little She-Devil and Her Reluctant Companion. The initial round of copies includes promotional tickets to a live event as a special bonus." Levi explained.
"I've got no idea what you're even talking about, Levi, but it doesn't matter! I don't even have any money to give you. How am I supposed to give back money I don't have, huh?!" Mammon said annoyed.
"So then, you're telling me you refuse to pay me back?" Levi looked furious.
"...What? You looking for a fight, is that it?" Mammon said tensing.
"So then, you actually are a lowlife, Mammon?" Cassandra finally cut in, not at all surprised.
"Hey! Don't call me a lowlife!" Mammon retorted, shooting a glare at her before continuing, "Listen, human. You remember my advice from before about what to do when demons attack? Well, you're about to witness that for real... So time for you to die, because it ain't gonna be me!" He said with a smirk.
Levi looked confused, "Hold on, I thought your advice was to either run away or-" he stopped when he realized Mammon had used this opportunity to escape, he was gone in a flash.
"...Wh... Dammit, Mammon! That ass... He ran off...!" Levi cried out in frustration before turning to Cassandra.
"Do you realize what just happened? Mammon used you as a distraction to get away from me... Or maybe I should say he used you as a sacrifice. I'll admit that Mammon is one of the scummiest scumbags you'll ever meet...a total lowlife. But still, that was pretty dumb of you to let him use you like that." Cassandra gritted her teeth, he was blaming HER because he let himself get distracted?
Levi sighed and shook his head, "This is EXACTLY why humans are-" he stopped his eyes growing wide.
"...Wait a second. Humans... Yes, that's it... Suddenly, I've got an idea." He smiled and looked at her with excitement.
"Listen, are you free right now? Of course you are. You've gotta be right? You know what? Nevermind. Either way, you're coming with me." Levi motioned for her to follow him.
Cassandra hesitated for a second only to realize she didn't have a choice.
She followed him to a different room.
Levi stopped to look around suspiciously before he let her in the door.
"...What are you doing?" She asked giving him a weird look.
"Isn't it obvious?! Imagine what would happen if someone saw me inviting you into my room! A human who doesn't even look like an otaku, but a normie! You know what people would say right?!" He said his eyes darting about.
Cassandra bit back a laugh, "Are you worried people might gossip?." She found it amusing that demons might gossip like old women.
Levi blushed, "Of...of c-c-c...of c-c-course not! Th...th-that's crazy! There's room in my heart for only one person, and she's animated! I'll always stay faithful to my dear sweet Ruri-chan always!" He stammered.
Cassandra was a bit taken aback at how seriously he'd taken her comment.
"Why would people gossip?! I mean, me and some non-otaku- some normie?! And not only that a THREE-DIMENSIONAL one from the real world?! It's insane, that's what it is!"
As Levi continued talking Cassandra took a look around his room. It was ocean-themed, the entire back wall was a fish tank. Jellyfish lights hung from the ceiling and anime posters covered the walls and shelves. There was an expensive-looking gaming computer with multiple screens on a desk with shelves full of games, anime figures, and mangas. In the middle of the room, instead of a bed, there was a bathtub filled with cushions. Her eyes stopped at some books with fancy leather binding. Along the spine of the book it read: The Tale of the Seven Lords: The Lord Of Shadow Awakens.
Levi noticed her gaze, "What're you looking at? The Tale Of The Seven Lords. Are you a fan of that too?" His eyes lit up when he saw her looking at the books.
"Huh? I've never heard of it?" She replied looking back at him.
Levi looked aghast, "... Excuse me? You don't know TSL? And you call yourself a human?! Just the fact that you don't know TSL alone is proof that you've been wasting your life! So, I'm going to do you a favor and teach you about TSL. Make sure you pay attention!" He huffed and then proceeded to go into a very long and detailed explanation of his favorite book/ TV series.
When Cassandra was almost bored to the point of tears he pointed to the large fish tank that made up part of his room. She noticed one large goldfish swimming happily in the tank.
"Check it out. See that goldfish in the fish tank there? He's actually named Henry. I love TSL so much that I couldn't help naming him after the main character." His smile faded.
He proceeded to go on another long rant about how humans got all the "good" stuff like streaming services and how much he wanted to cosplay Henry in the human world. He finally stopped to catch his breath.
"... Alright enough, this is starting to depress me." He sighed before continuing. "Anyway, I didn't bring you here to talk about TSL. I don't think there's any harm in just coming out and saying what you already know: Mammon is a complete and utter scumbag. You must understand this so I'll say it again: Mammon is a hopeless. Worthless. Scumbag. I lent that scumbag money and now he won't pay me back. I wish I could force him to but despite being the rotten waste of space he is, he's still the second oldest." Levi said sounding frustrated.
Ok, this sounds like a you problem? Cassandra thought, frowning but she didn't dare say it out loud.
Levi snapped her back out of her thoughts, "You say you want to know how Mammon and I first become enemies? Well, it's kinda a long story but I'll tell you human." He was preparing to go on another long rant, despite her not even asking.
She opened her mouth to stop him but he interrupted her, "A long time ago Mammon won a prize in a promotional campaign. The prize Mammon won was a Seraphina figure, something I would have died to have. But even though Mammon had no interest in it at all, he refused to give it to me. Why you ask? Because I wanted it... That was the only reason. So I got to thinking... Mammon's going to end up treating Seraphina like some random piece of junk. What if he takes her out of the box? He might just do it! And he'll get dust on her, won't he?! So I decided to sneak into his room at night to save her. He hadn't taken her out of the box... No, it was way worse. He hadn't even taken her out of the plastic bag, which he had just tossed on the FLOOR! And I don't think he had cleaned in at least three months. Old empty ramen noodle containers, tissues with dried snot, and boogers were everywhere. I flew into a rage. I walk straight over to Mammon who was asleep and raised my leg and brought my heel down onto his stomach as hard as I could. Next thing I knew he wasn't there anymore. It happened incredibly fast, he grabbed me, picked me up, and slammed me headfirst onto the floor. The worst part was that he was STARK NAKED!" Levi shuddered at the memory.
Cassandra was trying not to imagine the man she had just met as stark naked. She felt a faint blush on her cheeks despite her best efforts.
Levi, however, didn't seem to notice.
"But if, say, a human made a pact with Mammon and bound him to your service... Then he'd have to do whatever you tell him to. Which means that if you make a pact with Mammon you can order him to pay me back..." Levi was grinning ear to ear excited about his plan.
"A pact?" Cassandra asked, it sounded kinda serious and she was a bit unsure if this was something she should be even considering.
"It's where a demon lends his strength in exchange for the humans' soul." Levi said as if it was the most normal thing possible.
"I'm NOT giving Mammon- or anybody for that matter- my soul!" Cassandra exclaimed, folding her arms across her chest. She was outraged that he would even suggest it for such a trivial matter as money.
"All right calm down, that's not always necessary, it depends on the pact." Levi said hurriedly, putting his hands up to pacify her.
"But, well, you need to give SOMETHING to make it worthwhile. If you don't want to give up your soul, I'll tell you how to negotiate with Mammon. Also, I'm sure it would be useful to have him as your servant. I mean despite how he is he's still a powerful demon. I bet you feel worried after being dragged down here to the Devildom and all. So I don't think it would end up being a bad deal for you either. Don't you agree?"Levi smiled.
Cassandra knew he was right, as things were now, it certainly seemed Mammon had no real intention of helping her. While she was sure she could get along without him, it WOULD be nice to get back at him after how he'd acted at their first meeting.
Cassandra sighed wearily,"... How exactly would I go about doing this?" She said carefully.
Levi grinned knowing his plan to get her in on this had worked, "You're going to need some leverage... A bargaining chip. Something he wants so badly he'd do ANYTHING to get. Lucifer has something Mammon wants. I'm referring to Mammon's credit card. Lucifer took it away from him because he used it constantly. There's nothing Mammon wouldn't do to get it back. You need to talk to Lucifer to see if you can find out where he hid it. You'll have to be subtle, he can't suspect what you're up to." Levi said with a serious expression.
"Fine, I'll give it a go." Cassandra gave in, hoping she wasn't over her head in this.
Levi smiled "Great! Let me know what you come up with!" He said as Cassandra turned to leave.
She paused, realizing Mammon had never actually shown her where her room was.
"Hey, um, you wouldn't happen to know where my room is would you?" She looked back at him, rubbing the back of her neck in embarrassment.
"Oh, I guess that scumbag took off before he'd did what he was supposed to." Levi snorted, "It's just down the hall three doors to the left."
"Thanks." She said as she stepped back out into the hall. She silently walked down the hall and stopped at the door Levi had directed her to.
She hesitantly turned the knob, hoping that this was the right room.
She opened the door and gasped, it was a very large room, so large it could almost be considered an apartment. It had a desk with bookshelves lining the walls. There was a couch and even a TV as well. The bed was the best part though, the frame looked like tree branches reaching up into a canopy that had leaves like a real tree. Small lights adorned the bed frame illuminating it. She stepped inside and closed the door. The room reminded her very much of hers back at home.
Kieran finally came out of hiding, shaking his head."Why do you always get in these crazy situations?!" He hissed lashing his tail.
"H-hey! It's not my fault this time!" She said trying to keep her voice low, she didn't want to be overheard.
"Do you think I should tell them that you're also here?" She said, uncertain. She was worried that they might insist that he go back alone. It wasn't easy for a talking cat back up in the human world.
"Of course not! Are you crazy?! Who knows how they'd react! You're in a dangerous situation enough as it is! Speaking of which, what the actual FUCK were you thinking talking about pacts with that dweeb back there?!" He snarled flattening his ears and narrowing his eyes.
"Kieran, it might be my only shot at making through this year." She went and sat down on the bed and Kieran jumped up next to her.
"Is that the real reason or is it because you frustrated that you're powers are sealed? Look there are other ways-" he started to lecture her, he'd known her since she was a baby and tended to act as somewhat of a older brother or sometimes even as a parent to her. She had mostly been raised by him and her grandfather since her mother died when she was seven.
"That's not the reason!" She snapped, glaring at him "I don't like the situation I'm in so I'm going to do something about it. And I might learn something while I'm here ya know? They said it's a school after all maybe I can figure out how to unseal my magic by myself. I want to see how this pans out." She said shrugging off her black trench coat that was too big for her and tossing it on the couch.
Kieran grew quiet as she pulled off her combat boots. The boot knife that she always carried clattered to the floor. She picked it up and set it on the bedside table.
"Hey did you ever have any pacts? You used to be a human sorcerer right?" She asked, curious.
Kieran sighed, "Yeah, with some fairies and maybe a few lesser demons. When I was transformed all my pacts were severed so it doesn't matter now. That being said, making a pact with a strong demon is no joke, please be careful." He sounded tired now, no doubt that using his magic to hide had worn him out.
She pulled off her socks and undid her belt. She was hot now that she was no longer walking through the snow and wanted to get ready for bed.
