I hate my judgment. I really do. The ONE fandom I didn't think I should touch is one that instantly ends up on my more popular end of stories. Anyway, I have decided that for this story, when I'm able to, I will reply to reviews in the PMs when I can.
So I have two reviews that will be replied to an Ig it would only be fair that everyone gets this tidbit of information from the second one.
AngryOmelette: Noice. I'm starting to see some people with food-related usernames review some of my stories. Well, one story other story but that doesn't matter much. Have I found the target audience? Food-related usernames must be the key
Sandford9687: Glad you are enjoying it so far. The reason he doesn't know anything about the rival is that I doubt it would be as fun, or fair for him to have all of my knowledge of the game. I've played the game more times than I care to count, I stopped at 50 like 5 years ago. I think it'd be funnier for him to not know anything because it could bring a good hint of comedy to this fic. Would you rather him training his Pokémon by the daycare and out of the blue, a ditto pops out of the grass. Would you rather "Oh a ditto, I should switch out my Pokémon for my electric type to paralyze it and then throw that ultra ball I went down the to the basement of the department store to get and breed until I get a shiny or a competitive Pokémon with max IVs"
Or would you like when he doesn't know jack shit besides some basics and he just freaks out a little? "Aw...What is that? It's kinda weird looking...almost cute- HOLY FUCK WHY IS IT SHIFTING?! WHY IS IT GETTING BIGGER STAY BACK YOU UNHOLY PURPLE BLOB FROM HELL!"
Anyway, on with the chapter.
Chapter 2
Mr. Pokémon
Jaden P.O.V
"Hmm there are quite a few Pokémon here" I muttered as Dynamite finished off another Rattata.
So far, we had walked out to the route, learned for some odd reason I can't step over a freaking 2-inch ledge, fought several Rattata(Small rat looking Pokémon, their top half is purple and bottom half is a light cream with red eyes), Hoothoot(Small owl looking Pokémon, very round, brown, has some weird black eyebrow things that go off its head with large red eyes and it stands on one foot at a time, switching between them too fast for anyone to see), Sentret(another odd one, large round bodies it a long ringed tail, resembles a bunny almost) and lastly Pidgey(looks like a small bird that is angry, small brown with a little white and black, tends to throw sand in your face).
So far, according to my research, Pokémon learn moves after being a certain amount of strength. Dynamite here started off with Tackle and Leer. So I wanted him to be strong enough to at least use a fire-type attack, which he did after decimating the majority of the little route.
If Pokémon training with wild Pokémon wasn't legal, I'd likely be arrested for pretty much killing every single purple rat in this grass.
Anyway, by legal Pokémon battle rules, Dynamite can use Tackle, Leer, Smokescreen, and Ember.
"-quil" Dynamite said tiredly.
"Right...sorry buddy, I just wanted to make sure you were strong enough to handle everything from now on," I said as I pat him on the head. "Cherrygrove is right over there, let's see if there is somewhere for us to rest"
I picked him up and he didn't protest. He snuggled into my chest and I gave him a small squeeze. He is pretty cute though. Lyra and mom had a point.
He, thankfully, wasn't hurt much but he did beat up a lot of wild Pokémon. A lot. Consecutively without a break so he devesered a treat of some kind. Maybe I could ask my mom for some money so I could get him something.
I walked the last couple of feet and made it to Cherrygrove, another small place, but slightly more modern than my hometown.
I took a single step forward and an old man came rushing at me, a little too fast for someone that looked his age.
"Excuse me youngster," He said. "I can tell by the look of you, you're a rookie trainer arent you?"
I chuckled a little. "You got me. Rookie with a capital R"
He smiled a little. "I thought so. I'm known as the Guide Gent since I normally lookout for new people to this way of life to give them some tips. I was a top-notch trainer back in my day"
"I'm sure you were sir" I replied, not wanting to be rude, he's offering my help, even if I get the gist of it, it's still nice to have some tips.
"It's nothing to be shy about, everyone was a rookie at one point. If you would like, I can teach you a few things"
"I would like that"
"Ok then! follow me!" The guide took off, once again moving too fast for someone his age, and he turned back to look at me with an embarrassed face. "Right. You're a rookie, I doubt you would have the proper running shoes for this. Try and keep up and I got a surprise for you"
Well, so far my luck with surprises has been relatively good so far.
I quickly jogged over to him, careful not to jostle my tired Pokémon as I went.
"This is a Pokémon center, they will heal your Pokémon in no time at all. You'll be relying on them a lot" he said as I walked up to a large white building with a red roof and a large Poké ball symbol on it.
We walked a little further and stopped right at a building that was like the first but blue replaced the red.
"This is a Poké Mart, they sell Poké balls and other useful items for trainers."
We walked further, heading upwards toward what seemed to be another route. "Route 30 is that way, trainers will be battling their Pokémon their Pokémon there and if you go a bit further, you'll find Mr. Pokémon's house"
"Oh that's where I'm going," I said
"Heh, I bet you are glad I gave you this tour then huh?"
"I guess," I said but he didn't hear me as he dashed off again.
I followed him over to a shore, a small one but there was a nice bit of water in the west bit of the city.
"This is the sea, as you can see." I didn't comment on the obviousness and the bad pun. "Some Pokémon can only be found in water"
We walked back into the city and came up to a modest house.
"Here... is my house!" He said with a small bit of glee after dragging me through this small city.
"Thank you, sir, it was very...informative," I said. I was well aware of some of the things he had said but I was taught to respect people, and I added my own two cents on that unless they give you a reason not to. "Now I better get going, I have an errand to finish"
"Before you leave-" The guild dashed inside of his house and came back with a box. "I said a surprise no? For trying to keep up with me, I have some Running Shoes for you"
I took the box and inside was simple black pair of running shoes, but they looked like a different material than my normal ones. "Thank you, sir"
I guess these are tailored to fit a trainer's needs, we do tend to walk a lot and go to some rough places.
"Your welcome, plus they're still warm" I nearly dropped the shoes I was holding.
"They're what?"
He laughed when he saw my reaction."Haha, got you youngin!"
That one was kinda funny, I'll grudgingly admit that.
"Don't worry, they are brand new"
I sat down to take off my shoes and put on the ones he gave me. I ignored the fact they fit perfectly. I didn't want to dwell on that fact at all.
"Thanks, they fit amazingly"
"I'm glad you like them." He started to head back into his house. "Well, you've entertained this old man long enough, goodbye, I hope you finish your errand safely."
"Thank you again, and see you some other time" I called after him as I walked away.
Dynamite was still tired. I'll stop by the Pokémon center, just napping isn't going to regain his energy.
I walked into the doors of the building, it was larger than Elm's lab, at the back was a large front desk with who I assumed to be the Nurse, some PC's in the back corner, a few trainers were lunging in the training area, what looked to be a cafeteria, a set of stairs leading upstairs and a door that I figured to be where trainers spend the night.
I walked up to the desk. "Hello and welcome to the Pokémon Center. I'm Nurse Joy"
She was a woman of average height and also rather in shape, maybe around her twenties. She wore a pink and white nurse outfit with her bright pink hair in two loops on the back of her head. "How may I help you?"
"Hello Nurse Joy, I was wondering if you could heal up Dynamite, my Cyndaquil? We got a little overboard with training." I fished his Poké ball out of my bag with one arm and returned him to it.
I extended it to her as she smiled at me. "Of course, this will only take a few minutes."
She took it and placed it in the healing machine next to her and it started to flash a bright light several times.
I took a look around to see if there was anything interesting around. There was a lady upstairs but she was for new trainers without Trainer IDs, Professor Elm had been sure to get every child in the system when he first showed up, that was around the time Lyra got her Marill.
I almost spoke to one of the people in the lounging area when one of them leveled me with a glare, I was about to walk up to them and ask what the big idea was, but then I noticed they had an Ultra ball in casually sitting on their hip where trainers keep their Pokémon commonly. I back peddled. Ultra balls shouldn't be available to trainers unless they have at least three Pokémon Badges from the league challenge.
This means his Pokémon should be comfortable in how people would explain it, a good 1/5 of a max of a Pokémon's potential when mine is a single Pokémon I just got like an hour ago.
No thank you. I'm not into self-inflicted pain.
"Excuse me!" Nurse Joy called to me. "Dynamite is fully healed now!" I walked over to collect my partner.
"Thank you," I said with a small bow.
"Not a problem, come again any time," She said with a smile as I let Dynamite out.
He squealed and jumped onto my shoulder again. "I hope you're ready for some more training buddy, I got a feeling we'll need it"
I waved goodbye and headed out, and I used the directions given by my elderly guide.
Before I could fully leave I heard someone calling out to me.
"Wait!"
Why can't I leave places without someone chasing after me?
I turned and saw said guide running up to me. "Is something the matter sir?"
"Good...thing...I caught you" The guide said as he caught his breath.
He straightened up and breathed normally. He held out a card to me. "I forgot to give you this"
I took the card and realized with a jolt that this was a Map Card. For my Pokégear.
"Thank you again, sir," I said. "I'm really thankful for all your help."
"It's nothing young one, I wish you luck!" He said as he headed back home.
I leveled the card with the port of my Pokégear and slid the card in. Maybe it wasn't the best idea to put it on my dominant hand. I switched sides, peaking a glance at the Map while I did so.
Not far. According to this, there is one other house here, it's not quite far enough to be Mr. Pokémon's house, it would be stupid to assume so.
I vaguely remembered something, wasn't there someone called the Apricorn man near here? Maybe I should pop by if that's his house, I bet some people mistake him for Mr. Pokémon's house all the time.
I headed out to the route.
Dynamite hopped off my shoulder and flared up his fire, ready for combat.
Instantly after I stepped into the grass a small Green caterpillar angrily bum-rushed me.
"Dynamite use Ember," I said simply and Dynamite puffed his chest up a little as he gathered some air and spat out a small ball of fire at the bug, which went down instantly. I whistled. "Getting pretty strong arent you buddy?"
We spent some time scoping out what was here, the bug(Which I'm pretty sure is Caterpie), a cacoon(the evolved form of Caterpie, Metapod), a large ladybug(ledyba), and a small green spider with odd color legs(spinarak) not to mention the same pokémon from the past route.
I walked up to a house, noticing a small tree with some kind of berry-looking thing sticking out of the top. I looked at it more closely. "Apricorn, this has to be the place"
I knocked on the door.
"Hello?" A man at least in his forties and balding a little said as he opened the door.
"Would you happen to be the Apricorn expert?" I asked
He looked shocked. "You- didn't mistake my house to be Mr. Pokémon's house?"
"I may be young, but I have eyes" I jokingly said. "Do you mind if I come in to talk a little?"
He seemed pleased to have me, company that didn't think mistake his house to be Mr. Pokémon's.
He let me in and motioned me to a chair at the table.
"So do you have any Apricorns?" He asked me.
"Sadly I don't, I heard there is a special type of box you need to collect them, and given I just got my first Pokémon today, I haven't had a chance to really poke around for any," I said with a shrug. "I figured I'd get my hands on one eventually."
He smiled and stood up, leaving my sight for a little bit and coming back with a small orange box with a white top that he placed next to me. "Well, it seems we are both in luck, I get good company for a little and I happen to have an extra Apricon box"
I smiled too. "Thank you sir" I placed it into my bag. He walked me outside and pointed me behind his house. "If you go a little further north you should reach Mr. Pokémon's house, which is where I thought you were going, and judging by your age you must have realized that."
"Yup, I just thought it'd be nice to pop by without mistaking you for Mr. Pokémon," I said with a shrug. "Have a nice day"
"You too, kid. Good luck" He said as he waved and went back into his house.
I followed the path(ignoring the trail of destruction I was leaving behind) and left some kids battling to do their own thing, opting to go through some trees and I came up to another house.
I knocked on the door to be answered by another elderly man, but this time in a suit with a matching hat.
"Yes, can I help you?" He asked.
"You are Mr. Pokémon correct?" I asked
His eyes widened a little. "Ah, you must be Jaden. Elm told me about you, and what an adept child you are"
He moved aside a little to let me in. He motioned for me to sit down as he walked further inside to a glass case.
He pulled out an...egg.
"This is what I want Professor Elm to examine," He said as he showed me what is definitely a Pokémon egg.
"A Pokémon egg? Does it belong to a Pokémon that normally doesn't lay eggs or a rare Pokémon?" I asked
"Not quite, you see a friend of min in Ecruteak City gave it to me. I'm willing to bet you can't find this kind of egg in Johto"
"So you think it's from another region or something?" I asked. It looked like a normal egg, and I'm no expert but something about it felt different.
"Possibly, or a whole new Pokémon of itself is possible," He said as he handed it to me
gently. "I thought Professor Elm might be able to tell what it is."
I carefully placed it in my bag. "I better make sure he gets it then"
He stopped me before I could leave. Before you go, there is someone you should meet"
He lead me to another part of the house and there was a man around the same age as Mr. Pokémon. With his Dark Grey hair, grey dress shirt, brown pants, and white lab coat that stopped at his knees, it was hard for me to not recognize him
"Hello Jaden, I'm professor Oak, a Pokémon researcher from Kanto" He walked up to me and my jaw dropped.
"Y-your Professor Oak." I stammered. "You are one of the most famous Pokémon researchers to date"
"Well, I'm glad you've heard of me," He said with a laugh. He spotted Dynamite by my leg. "Oh! What's this? A Cyndaquil, they are quite rare you know."
"Professor Elm gave him to me to help with his research and to get here safely," I said as I reached down and Dynamite climbed up onto my shoulder again.
"I understand." Professor Oak said with a small smile. "He knew you would treat it with love and care." He seemingly came up with an idea. "Ah! You seem to be a dependable young man. How would you like to help me?"
I paused. He, Professor freaking Oak wants my help. "Of course sir, I'd be happy to help you with whatever you need"
To my shock, he reached into his coat and pulled out a red device. "This is the latest version of the Pokedex"
I stared. "You mean... you're giving me a Pokedex"
"Ah, I see Elm wasn't exaggerating when he said you were bright. So you know what this does then?"
"It records data on Pokémon I see or catch," I said a little breathlessly.
"Correct, I want you to have it and meet many Pokémon and complete this Pokédex here," He said with a smile as he handed it to me.
People picked by Oak are some of the greats. They're names go down in Pokémon trainer history. Blue and Red, not to freaking forget Green are all unstoppable in their own right. Red is a legend because not only did he complete the Pokedex but he became the champion easily. Blue was the champion for 30 minutes beforeRed came along and took the title, defending it easily for a while before vanishing to Arceus knows what. Green is lesser-known but she is still extremely strong, always being right behind the other two.
"You can count on me," I said as I poked the device in my hand to make sure it was real.
"Atta boy! I wish you luck on your adventure. I'll have to be leaving now, I have to get to GoldenRod City for my usual radio show" Professor Oak said goodbye and before he left he turned to me. "I have a feeling this won't be the last time we cross paths but to be on the safe side let's exchange numbers"
I handed him my Pokégear in disbelief and waved when he said. "Until next time, see you later my boy."
He left after that and so did I, after all, I can't stay forever, I have to get this egg delivered.
"See you, Mr. Pokémon, I have to get back now," I said
"Farewell Jaden. Be careful on your way back"
I saw the sun was starting to set a little. "Damn it's getting late, Dynamite we gotta pick up the pace a little. "
I took around five steps before my Poké gear started to beep. That means someone is calling.
I quickly removed it and looked at the screen. Professor Elm, maybe he's worried because I was taking so long. I answered it to be bombarded by a panicking Professor.
"Hello? Professor is everything alright?" I asked
"H-hello, Jaden?"
"Yeah"
"It's a disaster! Uh, um, it's just terrible! What should I do? It...oh no...Please get back here now!" The line was cut off by a click.
For once I let myself cuss, I'm normally very child friendly but I just couldn't help it. "Fuck! Dynamite, we got trouble back at home! Let's high tail it back!"
Dynamite made no objections and quickly moved from my shoulder to my arms.
A few Pokémon tried to get in my way but Dynamite literally basted threw them in one shot.
Soon I was back in Cherrygrove and cutting through the city before getting stopped by that red-haired guy.
He looked at me. "...You got a Pokémon from the lab too. What a waste."
I growled at him. "Wanna say that a bit louder tough guy?"
"That's a Pokémon that's too good for a wimp like you," He said but he flinched when I took a step closer.
"Wimp? Well if I'm a wimp what does that make you?"
He gave me a death glare. "I have a Pokémon as well. I'll show you the wimp here!"
He took out a Poké Ball and to my surprise, he sent out Tododile. Without a doubt that is the same one from the lab. He stole a Pokémon, that's what the commotion was. I couldn't forcefully take the ball from him without using force, which is against the law, all feuds between Pokémon trainers have to be settled through battle.
Dynamite jumped from my arms and let his fire flare to life.
I was at a disadvantage, but maybe if I'm lucky, Dynamite is stronger even with the typing being in his favor.
Should I use Ember to keep some distance even if it will be resited, or should I go for tackle? No the best bet here is to play smart.
"Tododile, use scratch" He ordered. His Pokémon obeyed, rushing towards Dynamite ready to scratch him, but it's a speed I've seen Dynamite move at easily, we have power in our favor it seems.
"Wait...now, use Smoke Screen!" I called out to Dynamite, who had waited for the Tododile to be right in front of it. Dynamite let out a large cloud of smoke from its back, letting him dodge the scratch easier.
The boy scoffed. "That the best you got? Clear the smoke and hit a water gun"
The Tododile swiped the smoke away but I could see it was blinking more than it was before and had some soot around its eyes. I almost felt bad for the poor thing.
"Dynamite, use tackle" Dynamite rushed forward as the Totodile tried to aim its mouth at him. Dynamite managed to ram its body into the small crocodile's body, dealing what I thought to be some good damage before the Tododile shot off a jet of water from its mouth at point-blank range.
Dynamite was hit, but he was still winning by a good margin.
"Hmm... you're doing ok, for a weakling," He said.
"Weakling? I'll show you the weakling, Dynamite finish this! Ember" I called out to him and he prepared his blast of fire.
"Counter with a water gun," The boy said simply with a smirk. "You may have a pretty strong Pokémon, but no way there is a gap between them, water trumps fire, simple as that-" He stopped when Dynamite's Ember evaporated the water gun and slammed into his Tododile.
"What?! This can't be!" He exclaimed as his Pokémon fell to the ground with swirly eyes. "Big deal, you just got lucky, that's all" He said as he once again, tried to shove me out of the way, but I held firm. He scoffed and walked around me. As he walked past me he spoke one last time.
"Don't forget who I am, I'm going to be the world's greatest Pokémon Trainer"
I looked at the ground to my partner and noticed a few things on the ground that I picked up.
I looked behind me at his retreating form. Man's done dropped his insurance card, credit card, birth certificate, passport, Drivers permit, trainer ID, and regular ID. Get your life together, how did you drop all of this, better question, why do you carry this all with you?
I checked the pictures, and all the names match. Yup, it's him alright. Suddenly he was right behind me again and he snatched all of them...one by one, shoving them into his pockets as he scowled at me trying to look intimidating. "Gives those back! That's my stuff" he spat at me.
Then the realization hit him. "Oh no! You saw my name..." He took off faster than I could see. He must have some pretty high-grade running shoe cuz damn! He's fast.
I patted Dynamite as I placed him on my shoulder again. "So its confirmed, your a beast even against Pokémon you're weak against"
He made a loud noise as if to say. 'Weak against? I'm weak against nothing because I'll destroy all in this world!'
At least that was my joking interpretation. I wish I could understand him. "Lets get going buddy, I have a feeling I know what happened and the Professor likely isn't happy"
I started running again toward New Bark, hoping things weren't too bad.
And scene! I'm starting to get into a groove with this, I'm enjoying so far and I hope you guys are too. Have a lovely weekend(from at least when I'm posing this)
