RWBY belongs to Roosterteeth,
RIP Monty Oum, we need you now more than ever.
I only own my OC(s)
With that, let's get into this
I tried… I tried so hard to find my place in this cruel world… But nobody understood… And everyone pushed their chains upon me, only to become angered when I broke. But when I shattered my physical form upon the river my soul broke free from the chains of this world, right into the chains of another. There will never be a perfect world for me. No matter how hard I fight…
Remnant, 1 year before canon, unnamed settlement:
I gazed upon the stars as I took in a deep breath. It's been about… 14 years since my life ended in that world, yet I still remember it and all of its ugliness. Not like this world is any better, although the view is nice. But I am still in chains… and this time, I can see them. I can see everyone's strings, and the cause of the strings' existence. Had I been in my past life, in that world, I would've gone mad, but here, here I can help these souls break their strings. A quick example of how my semblance works, I can look at a person's [BURDEN], and why it exists, I must then speak with the person about their [BURDEN], and only then can I cut their string. Also, it allows me to see through illu- A voice interrupted my inner-monologue/explanation.
"Get down here kid! Your food's ready and waiting!"
Ah, the shopkeeper, I should thank him for that. After all, any burger is best eaten fresh. I gazed down to the small restaurant and spotted a Young Maiden, her strings bound tighter than most. I'll keep an eye on her, but first, I will take my burger, and eat it.
Unknown Village, Restaurant
I had my burger and fries, (still don't know how the man does it, is it his semblance?), and they were pretty good! I decided to sit a bit closer to the Young Maiden, (What was her name again?), and glanced at her as she gave her order to the Shopkeeper. I decided to introduce myself to her.
I channeled my inner Kenobi, and introduced myself "Hello there." the young Maiden seemed confused for a moment before she responded.
"Hello?" She seemed confused, "uh, who are you?"
"The name is Liberari Unum, and I can see that your strings are tighter than the rest. Tell me Little Light, what strings of expectation and fate weigh you down? I may be able to help break free from them if you do." I was not going to be secretive, tell what I do, and offer to lend aid.
Unfortunately, I should've gone with cloak and shadow, as she visibly became nervous and her heart-rate quickened. I raised my eyebrow, wondering why she became so scared after that speech. Should I have used the honeyed words of the wish-shaping Ahamkara? I looked back to the shopkeep for any answers and looked back to see that she had vanished.
I climbed onto the roof once-more and saw her making her way to the village gate, and spied a group of three following her from the shadows. I placed some lien upon the table, to pay for both of our meals, and I began to follow the young maiden from a distance, keeping an eye on the shady trio. When they vanished from sight, I readied my handcannon, Malfeasance.
Unknown Location, Valean Wilds
By the time I caught up to the Maiden, (I really need to ask her name), she was on her knees before the trio's apparent leader.
This is where the fools would interrupt the villains and give a monologue, only to be cut down before they can even finish. I am no fool, for I held the advantage of surprise, I drew my weapon, and fired a corrupted slug into the back of the leader's head. She stopped whatever she was about to do as she staggered forwards from the impact of the bullet, she kept her aura up, shes smart, dangerous.
Not like those green-behind-the-ears hunters She looked at the dark infused slug and gazed at my Malfeasance, "You wield stolen power, my mistress will forgive you if you join us." She raised her hand in an offer of recruitment. Was she giving me a chance to monologue? I'd take it, and use that time to prepare.
I stepped forward and reloaded my Malfeasance with a twirl, and gestured towards it, "Light from Darkness," I gestured to her with my weapon, "Darkness from Light, a balance must be maintained, abuses stopped, innocence kept." As soon as I finished speaking I opened fire on her cronies, the infused slugs heavily draining their auras. I was about to shatter the green-haired one's aura when my vision went weird, an illusion. They got a few strikes in before I turned my semblance on and shook off the illusion. I mentally thanked my semblance before re-acquiring green hair as a target and fired, her aura shattered as the round pierced her shoulder, forcing an agonized scream from her. I saw a few strings that could be cut later.
Knowing that green hair would be down for a while, I turned my attention to the guy and the leader. The Leader grabbed blackened sticks(?), from her waistband, and reforged them into a bow and arrow. She nodded to her remaining cronie (the silver haired boy), and he renewed his assault. He is fast, I'll give him that. He was upon me in an instant, and I was barely able to deflect his blows. It took a moment, but I was able to find a pattern and knock him back, tearing one of his pants legs off, revealing the true nature of his legs. Only to be struck by the CinderellaAlter's arrow, it actually hurt through the protective aura. I only had a moment to draw my knife before he was upon me in a rage, yet he never used his semblance…
It took a single glance as I knocked him back once more, to tell why he didn't use his semblance. It was stolen. This kid had the misfortune of being raised by some All-for-One/Devil Splicer wannabe. Christ this group is a bunch of hormones mixed with teenage rebellion and tragic/traumatic child-hoods. Green Hair grew up as a street-rat, and their leader was a Cinderella story gone horribly wrong. I could see that the green haired kid could be saved, but Peg-Legs and CinderellaAlter were too far gone. To break their strings now would bring them insanity, and death, for those strings are the only things keeping them going.
I began to plan my strategum when a massive, over-engineered, clock-work sword that I can only describe as huge planted itself in the ground with its wielder standing on the handle. From the frustrated look on the duo's faces, he was their enemy, and my temporary ally.

So this tale begins, definitely a much longer chapter than my previous (incomplete) works. I hope I appeased my audience. I also hope to be able to gain a more stable upload schedule, as I find writing to be quite therapeutic, something I believe I need right now. So without further ado,
So Liberari's journey has begun with quite an interference to canon. How will things play out as the butterfly flaps its wings from the other side of the world? Find out next time on RWBY: Cut the Strings!
