Used As An Experiment

My back was pressed as close to the wall as possible, angling my stomach away and my hands covering it protectively. It wasn't much but it was all I could do.

I had tried breaking out and that didn't go well. Tried attacking the doctors when they walked in with a new syringe, that also didn't go well.

I was now chained to the bed and I'm pretty sure they are drugging my food. I would just stop eating altogether but I couldn't risk hurting them—the child growing inside me.

A miracle baby. Something never seen before, a child created between two dhampirs.

Dimitri and I barely had time to celebrate it ourselves before I was taken from our house when Dimitri left for work. We never made it public but obviously, someone got a hold of my medical file.

I don't know how long I had been here, surrounded by white walls and no window made it difficult to tell. I tried to keep track through the meals they brought but then they started knocking me out when they wanted to do their scans, or take blood. I'm pretty sure it's been a week, a week of them doing God knows what to me.

I was only eight weeks along when they took me and I still wasn't really showing yet. There was a slight bump, not noticeable to the eye, but I could rub my hand along it and recognise it for what it was. My child.

Mine and Dimitri's child. And I had to do everything I could to protect it but I didn't know what I could do anymore.

I tensed as the door to my cell slid open, a woman—Moroi—pushed in a cart, two guardians as protection. I had tried reasoning with the guardians, hoping to get them on my side, but they had just sneered and told me to shut up.

The woman didn't speak, face covered by a mask, as was everyone else's. Trying to hide their identity from me, not that it would help, as soon as I get free I was going to make them all pay.

She placed the tray on the swivel table at the foot of the bed. The whole room was set up like a hospital room, next to the bed where monitors that were occasionally hooked up to me, every time I became aware enough I would detach them. The woman glanced at me for a second before lifting a needle from the cart, waving her hand to the guardians to grab me.

I fought against them, expecting this already. I kicked out at the first one and elbowed the second one in the face. I would get up and keep beating them but the chains around my wrists that confined me to the bed made it impossible. There was nothing I could do.

They pinned me down, exposing my arm for the Moroi as I screamed at them to let me go, to get away from me. I didn't know what they were giving me, I couldn't trust that it wasn't going to hurt me or my baby, but I was powerless to stop them.

After the first needle, she gave me another. My body started to relax against my will, limbs becoming slack and my head heavy.

Another drug to knock me out. I tried to resist it, straining against their hold to cover my stomach again but I was dragged under by whatever they gave me. Feeling a tear slip out the corner of my eye as my consciousness faded.

"Roza!"

"Shit. What did they do to her?"

A warm hand cupped my cheek. "Roza?" Another joined it, brushing my hair from my face. "Please, Roza, you need to wake up."

"Belikov, we need to keep moving."

All these voices, they sounded so familiar but I couldn't place them. I heard a sigh and then the jingling of the chains attaching me to the bed. "Eddie."

"Got it."

More hands were touching me, covering my wrist, a moment later the cuff was removed and the same done to the other.

"Good," The deep voice breathed out. My mind was too sluggish to give them a name but I knew I was safe with them. They removed the wires that were hooked up to me again, cursing under their breath.

I felt their arms slide under me and lift, leaving the cold sterile bed and pressed against a warm chest. The smell of pine invading my senses.

"I've got you, Roza." They whispered against my forehead, kissing me gently.

"We gotta go!"

Without another word we were moving, I could feel my body jostle as they ran, but the arms around me held steady and strong.

I still couldn't move, my limbs too heavy, but I willed my eyes to crack open. I wanted to see them, to remember who they were. It took a lot of effort but I managed to lift my eyelids enough to see a strong jaw and strands of brown hair loosely hanging around their chin. It wasn't until they looked down at me and I saw those warm brown eyes that it clicked in my mind.

Dimitri.

Finding my eyes on him, relief washed over his face, arms holding me tighter.

Dimitri had come for me, saving me. It was weak but I tried to smile at him, to display my gratitude.

He was here now, everything would be okay.

I was going to be mean and leave it but decided to add the ending with Dimitri showing up. Dimitri always saves Rose :)
