Summary: To broker peace with the local vampires, Jace, the omega son of the werewolf pack's Alpha, proposes an arranged marriage between himself and Simon, the current clan-leader of the vampires. Simon, an alpha, is already in a secret relationship with Raphael, another alpha - a relationship that's frowned upon - but he agrees for the sake of peace.
A Union For Peace
A Wolf Among Vampires
Werewolves and vampires had been at war for centuries. During their life-time, it had been particularly bad during the reign of the last vampire leader, Camille Belcourt. So many had died, on both sides. The hostility had reached its peak, at least from the past century or so.
"Everybody is tired of fighting, dad."
Luke Garroway crossed his arms and glared at his son. "You don't have to tell me, I know this."
"Then why are you not listening to me?" asked his son in frustration.
"Jace, your father..." Luke's wife heaved a sigh. "He just wants what's best for him."
"I know that, mom!" Jace threw his hands up in the air. "But maybe I just want what's best for the pack. I'm the Alpha's son. I want to show that I can be useful to the pack."
"You don't have to be useful, Jace," Luke furrowed his brows and approached his son. "You just have to be. I want you to be happy. I don't want you to be... a pawn in this."
Their family was complicated and came with baggage, but they loved each other fiercely. All Luke wanted for any of his children was to be happy. He would have never suggested this on his own. He pulled Jace into a hug, soothing and warm. Catarina smiled, a thin-lipped expression because it was not entirely happy. She might just be Jace's step-mother, but she had come to love Luke's kids over the past decade too. And she had gotten to know them. If there was one thing that applied to both Jace and his younger sister Clary it was that they were unbearably stubborn.
"You're really going to do this, aren't you?" asked Clary softly, giving herself away.
She poked her head into the living room, frowning at her older brother. This time, Jace looked less defiant and more guilty. He ran a hand through his hair and looked at Clary.
"Look, you have a mate. You have Maia, who's been closely involved with the pack as someone everybody knows to turn to. She's a strong alpha and one day, she'll be a strong Alpha," Jace avoided looking at her. "The two of you will lead the pack one day, together. I'm not..."
"Jace, listen to me. Look at me," Luke grasped his shoulders and locked eyes with him. "You do not have to contribute to the pack. It's enough that you're a part of it, my boy."
"I know that, dad," Jace sighed and leaned forward into his dad's space. "But this is something I want to do. This could help us establish peace. And if that's in my powers..."
"I will... send a message with your suggestion to the new clan-leader," Luke sighed, not sounding happy with this at all. "If it truly is what you want. You're an adult, you can make your own decisions. I just... don't want this to make you unhappy."
Jace smiled thinly, wrapping his arms around Luke's shoulders. He was grateful that his dad was giving him a chance. He knew he was doing the right thing here.

"Ra—aph," Simon called out mildly distressed, eyebrows raised high. "I need your, uh, advise."
Simon Lewis was the current clan-leader of the New York vampire clan. He'd taken over after helping take out the last leader. Camille Belcourt had pretty much been rogue, using the clan for her own little vendettas. That had led to many losses on their side. So they were pretty on board with supporting Simon as the new leader, intend on forging peace. For that, he'd been in correspondence with with local werewolf pack. This latest letter however was a surprise.
"Is everything alright, amor?" asked his second-in-command and lover.
Simon turned to look at Raphael. As handsome as ever, always wearing his perfectly tailored suits. Immediately made Simon want to pull him close and ask for a kiss. The two had gotten together even before Simon took over as clan-leader – in fact, Raphael had largely helped Simon become clan-leader. He'd been unhappy with Camille's leadership since before Simon became a vampire.
"Alpha Garroway sent me a message," replied Simon, waving the paper around. "He... He is suggesting a classic way of... uh... establishing true peace and not just a tense treaty."
"That sounds like a good thing, why do you look so stressed?"
Raphael approached him from behind, gently nosing Simon's neck. Though they were both alphas, Simon found Raphael incredibly soothing. The fact that they were both alphas was the reason why they were hiding their relationship still. Two alphas were not exactly an accepted mate-bond still and considering how fragile Simon's leadership was, Raphael had insisted they not rock the boat too much just yet. At one point, when Simon had proved what a fantastic leader he was, they could own their relationship. Alas, the paper Simon was holding right now might wreck that plan.
"He's suggesting a marriage between me and his omega son."
/break\
Raphael loved Simon. More than he had ever expected. He'd made a long-term plan for the two of them and as a strategist and patient man, he could wait. But then Alpha Garroway sent a proposal that was hard to decline. Impossible to decline, really. It might insult the werewolf, it might stir the animosity between them up again and send them into another war right away.
"Thank you for coming and seeing us in person."
Luke Garroway was a tall man who carried himself with confidence. It made Raphael straighten up more too. They'd accepted an invitation to the Garroway home, so Simon could meet his potential fiance and they could discuss the options. Simon opposed the idea as much as he thought it was a great idea. Because he wanted peace – he just didn't really want to marry anyone but Raphael.
It would look so good, politically speaking though. An arrangement for peace unlike anything seen so far between wolves and vampires. It might genuinely broker peace between them. No more war and death, after all the losses their clan had suffered. Not to mention, there was already a certain amount of pressure on Simon for being the leader but being unmated. Having an omega at his side would strengthen his position, would gain him more respect from outside forces. And that omega being the son of the pack leader was a political alliance that could also strengthen them against said outside forces; because peace between wolves and vampires did by far not mean peace overall. They could as well be facing enemies from other sides. The wolves were strong fighters and if they could be, they'd be incredibly valuable allies in any future fight.
"Thank you for the invitation, Alpha Garroway," Simon smiled and shook Luke's hand.
"My wife and mate, Catarina," Luke stepped aside to show his family. "And my children, Clary, Jace and Madzie. Please, come inside, we've prepared tea and cake."
Simon nodded, keeping a polite smile on even as his brain was racing because huh somehow, Clary and Jace did stand out in this family. But he was quickly distracted by all of Jace. The golden-blonde hair falling into his face, plush pink lips, very kissable looking. He was about as tall as Simon, maybe half an inch or so shorter, and he was definitely well-trained. The way the skin-tight shirt hugged Jace's torso showed off his great physique. Simon would be lying if he'd say the blonde wasn't attractive. But physical appearance was by far not everything that mattered to him, especially not if he had to decide on a mate, a co-leader to his clan.
"This is my second-in-command, Raphael Santiago," introduced Simon after a moment.
The group headed into the living room of the homey house. It felt so normal, which was kind of weird to Simon, considering he was in the home of the most influential and powerful wolf in all of New York. Right now, Simon didn't see anything of the fearsome wolf, he just saw a husband and father. The man put himself and his wife between the two vampires and the youngest cub. If Simon had to guess, he'd say Madzie might be about ten years old. She was adorable.
"I made strawberry cake. I hope you're not allergic. Would be a disaster if this turns into another war because I killed the clan-leader with a cake," Jace smiled charmingly at Simon.
"No. No, not... Not allergic," Simon watched as Jace plated the cake. "It smells delicious."
Or maybe that was Jace. The omega stood close enough that Simon actually got a good whiff of his scent, specifically – entering the house, he was overcome with different scents, too many to pinpoint. But right now, he could smell the omega's unique scent, like honey and roses.
"The fact that you're here tells me that you aren't opposed to my son's proposal."
"This was his idea?" asked Simon without thinking before blushing. "Uh, I just..."
"Yeah, it was my idea," replied Jace as he sat down next to Simon. "My father opposed the idea, actually. He wants me to find true love and live a fairy tale life the way him and mom do. But I think that this is... for the best of the pack. And your clan. There's been war as long as I've been alive. I want peace, I want Madzie to get to enjoy the rest of her childhood without war. I want my own children to be born into a time where there is no war, to never get to know war."
His voice was firm, his words well-chosen. Simon couldn't do anything but nod. He certainly was relieved that the omega wasn't coerced into some arranged marriage against his will. That had been the main reason why Simon had come here; to talk to the omega himself. Because if the other didn't consent to this, that'd be a major deal-breaker. Now, it was something Simon was considering. Though his eyes drifted over toward Raphael. The thought of someone not Raphael as his mate was... wrong.
"The cake is delicious," praised Raphael, smiling at Jace.
"Thank you, alpha Santiago," Jace returned the smile in a charming manner.
They shared small-talk mostly during the cake. A bit awkward, but going strong and without any insults or injuries. After their plates were cleared, Simon could tell there was a shift in atmosphere. Jace smiled and got up, gathering plates and looking at Simon.
"Would you help me clear the table, alpha Lewis?"
"Please, uh, call me Simon," requested the vampire flustered. "And, of course! I do housework too, you know. I'm not the kind of alpha who'd expect his omega to do all the housework."
Jace looked amused at that and led the way toward the kitchen where he deliberately took his time putting the dishes into the sink. Ah, so they were going to do the dishes too? That was one way to keep the two in the same room and talk some. Simon's eyes scanned the kitchen to find a towel.
"So..." Jace drawled off a little, looking at Simon. "You're handsome."
"Uh. Thank you. You're gorgeous too," offered Simon flustered.
"I..." Jace returned his attention to the dishes. "I want to guarantee peace between our people. I'm tired of loss. My father's best friend... my sister's godfather. Uncle Alaric died during this war. Many friends and people we've known for so long are... dead. And I'm tired of death."
"Me too," whispered Simon honestly as he accepted the first clean plate from Jace. "I was kind of a victim of this war too, you know. Camille turned me, against my will. In her attempt to strengthen the numbers of her clan. I don't want that, I don't want people turned against their will. I want to do right by my clan and I want to do better than Camille."
"I know that this marriage could help both our people," stated Jace firmly. "I'm not looking for some true love fairy tale here. I'm not... the hugest believer in love, that way. I think that what you and I could do together is worth so much more than that."
"I... don't know how far I agree with that," admitted Simon softly. "I'm... kind of a romantic at heart. I always wanted great romance. Yes, I agree that this could be... bigger than the two of us and I do want the potential peace and also the potential alliance that could help us against other... enemies."
For a few moments, there was silence between them. Only the muffled voices from the living room and the water filling the sink. Jace was considering Simon's words and Simon appreciated that. Appreciated not being dismissed or talked over, or the stark opposite of Jace just rolling over and agreeing to whatever the alpha was saying. Simon watched him from the corner of his eyes.
"What if... you still have the option to find love?" suggested Jace carefully. "I want our mate-bond to be strong for the sake of our people. If we can be co-leaders and perhaps even friends, that would be all I'd be asking for. I'm willing to turn a blind eye on whatever... side-pieces you'd want, if you want to sleep around or want that one partner at the side that you want to fall in love with. As long as you can be discrete and not make a fool of me with it."
"Oh. Okay," Simon blinked surprised. "Uh. You too. I mean, if we were to do this, I'd want you to be with whoever you want to be with sexually or romantically too."
"I'd want to keep seeing my family. Obviously," stated Jace then. "I'm not going to leave my pack entirely behind. You seem kind enough, but... I need you to know that."
"I don't... I wouldn't expect you to," assured Simon. "I... I mean, if we want a proper alliance between our people, we also need them to... learn to understand each other. Centuries of hatred won't just be dissolved by you moving in with the clan. We have to really... unlearn the prejudices on both sides and get to know each other for who we really are."
Jace offered him a soft smile at that. "Yeah, I think I like you, Simon Lewis. You're an interesting one."

Over the following week, Jace and Simon got to know each other at least a little bit. Every day, they met up to spend some time with each other. One of the reasons why Simon had risen so quickly to become clan-leader despite still being a fledgling was that he was a Daylighter. A vampire who could walk in the sun. Which meant that Simon and Jace got to spend time out during the day.
Walking through the park, going out for pizza one day. They ate at the Jade Wolf one evening, because that was wolf-territory and Jace wanted to introduce Simon to his home. Another evening they met at Rosa's, the beautiful Mexican restaurant inside Hotel Dumort. During each of their meetings, the two discussed what they'd want out of their mate-bond and how they expected co-leading to go. It was a lot riding on this and both of them were very aware of that.
"So..." Jace trailed off as they reached the door of the Garroway home.
"So..." echoed Simon a bit awkwardly. "What's the verdict on your end?"
"I think we could make this work. You're... nothing like what I expected a vampire, much less the clan-leader, to be like, if I'm honest," Jace chuckled softly. "I was okay with this arrangement with the vague notion of what I pictured the Alpha of vampires to be like... but with you, I genuinely think I could make this work. What... do you think?"
"Okay," agreed Simon, his eyes on the beautiful omega in front of him. "Let's do this."
"What a romantic proposal, Lewis," Jace rolled his eyes amused.
And then he did something that Simon didn't expect. The blonde leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss on Simon's cheek. When he pulled away again, Jace's cheeks were flushed just a bit. That was unreasonably cute, what was Simon supposed to do with that?
/break\
"I just don't know how I feel about how supportive you're being."
Simon was pouting, very openly. And then he rolled over to bury his face in Raphael's neck. The other alpha didn't even acknowledge his pouting, instead he kept reading. Though one of his hands gently ran down Simon's spine. On the one hand did Simon of course love that his lover was so supportive since this was for the best for their clan. But on the other hand was this Simon's boyfriend, supporting the idea of Simon marrying someone else and that just felt wrong.
"I've tagged along to the majority of your... meetings this week," commented Raphael after a beat. "I think that he is... reasonable. From what I have seen, I think his intentions are genuine. I've been listening to his heartbeat and breathing when he talks and he doesn't seem ill-intentioned. This isn't some spun tale for an assassination attempt. I think he wants the same as us. Peace."
"Yeah, that's the picture I'm getting too," Simon sighed and rolled over, resting his back against Raphael's chest now. "Since we're all about communication and honesty and all, I uh..."
"You find your fiance attractive," supplied Raphael after another moment of squirming on Simon's part. "I can see that he's good looking and I've seen the way you look at him. I'm unsure how that's going to work out once the two of you are married, but perhaps..."
Simon perked up curiously at that. "Perhaps...?"
"Perhaps you and him can come to a different kind of arrangement too," elaborated Raphael. "I wouldn't mind if you had sex with your husband. And it might be good to bring the two of you closer. But that's something to be discussed later, with him perhaps."
Simon stared at Raphael in awe at that. The two of them had a slightly different arrangement from any other relationship Simon ever had, because Raphael was asexual – and sex-repulsed. But so far, Simon had been quite fine with having an exclusively romantic relationship with his partner, even though he did miss the touch of another, in a sexual manner.

Madzie watched with furrowed brows. She was wearing a pretty, sparkly purple dress and she was carrying a basket of flowers, which she was supposed to throw around when walking down the aisle in front of her big brother. In theory, she knew what a wedding ceremony was. She'd seen it in lots of movies before. But she'd never been to one before. Much less her beloved big brother's.
"You," Madzie tried sounding as firm as her dad.
When she tugged on Simon's sleeve, she got the vampire's attention. He'd visited a couple of times and her big brother had spent a lot of time with him. That didn't mean Madzie approved though.
"Ah, hello there," Simon grinned brightly and went into his knees. "Are you looking for your brother? I'm afraid I haven't seen him yet. Bad luck and all."
"He's with Maia and Clary," replied Madzie. "I snuck out."
"You did?" Simon looked mortified. "We should look for your parents-"
"No," Madzie interrupted him and glared as fiercely as she could. "I needed to talk to you!"
For a second, Simon turned toward Raphael to exchange a curious look. "Okay...? What is it?"
"I don't like that you're taking my brother away from me," stated Madzie firmly, eyebrows drawn deep. "But Jace says he knows what he's doing and I trust him. So I'll allow it."
A small smile played on Simon's lips, but before he could say anything, the look on Madzie's face shifted. Her eyes glowed green and when she opened her mouth, there were adorable, little fangs.
"But if you ever hurt my big brother, I will hurt you much, much more!" declared Madzie with a soft growl. "Because my big brother's been hurt enough, so you'll regret it if you hurt him."
That shut Simon up. He stared in surprise at just how scary the cute little girl could be. And he knew to take her seriously. This wasn't just feral anger – young wolves tended to sometimes lose their temper and that was one thing, but this wasn't it. She was deliberately threatening him and she was doing it because of her beloved brother. It was what she said that startled him a bit. Jace had been hurt enough? What did that even mean?
"I promise I won't hurt your brother," Simon offered her a reassuring smile.
Madzie narrowed her eyes at him for another few seconds, before she nodded pleased and walked off. Once she was out of sight did Simon heave a relieved sigh. He stood up and looked at Raphael.
"She's precious," noted Raphael with a small smile.
In that moment, Simon could see what his lover was thinking about. His own sister. Simon felt the same way, he too had a sister he had left behind when he had become a vampire. Seeing Madzie like that, it caused his heart to ache for his own sister. As much as she annoyed him, he missed her.
/break\
"I still think you're crazy for doing this," Maia glared down at him.
She was currently braiding flowers into Jace's hair. It was a bit old-fashioned, but this was Jace's wedding and he wanted it to be traditional. The wedding was held at a clearing in the forest, the pack had run the forest last night and camped out at the clearing, to make it smell like them, before all of them worked together with the vampire clan to set up everything they needed. It had come together beautifully, in Jace's opinion. Right now, it was all final touches with Jace and his maids of honor slash best man. Clary, Clary's mate Maia (who was also one of Jace's best friends) and Jace's other best friend, Bat. Clary and Maia's dresses matched Jace's suit in style and colors.
"He's good people, I think," argued Jace. "And you know me, I... I'm not banking on ever falling in love. Why not use my mate-bond to do something good for our pack?"
Maia heaved a sigh and shook her head, but when Clary rested a gentle hand on her alpha's shoulder, she refrained from commenting any further. The girls knew how stubborn Jace could be.
"But you'll keep us updated on how he treats you though, right?" Bat sounded concerned. "I mean, it's easy to pretend to be some nice guy front over a couple days. Once you actually live with him..."
"Bat's got a point," agreed Maia, even with Clary's glare. "If he mistreats you, you tell us."
Jace rolled his eyes, but it was more fond than anything. "Sure. I already had to promise mom and dad that. But I'm a big boy, I can watch out for myself."
"The point is that you don't have to," countered Bat as he nudged Jace.
"Yeah, yeah. Can we now please just get this wedding over with? You know I don't like this fancy stuff," Jace dodged Bat and got out of his seat. "Let's get this party started."
Maia turned toward Clary, gently straightening Clary's hair out a little and stealing one last kiss. What the two of them had was love and Jace just didn't see himself ever finding that. His father – not his dad, not Luke – had stolen that notion from him. But he thought he could form a solid friendship with Simon, if given the chance. He was aware that he wouldn't have been as open to any such notion if he hadn't already had it in his head that he wanted this alliance. This way, he got to see that Simon was nothing like what he had pictures a vampire to be.
"Are you okay?" asked Luke when the four left the dressing room. "Ready?"
"Yes," Jace grinned at his dad. "I'm... I'm ready. Bring me to my future husband."
He accepted Luke's arm and let his Alpha lead him down the aisle. Madzie walked in front of them, chest puffed out and throwing rose petals. Simon at the end of the aisle looked amazing. His future husband really was a handsome one. Jace was moderately optimistic about this mate-bond.
"Hey," Jace offered Simon a small smile.
"Hey yourself," Simon's eyes dragged up and down his body. "You look... amazing."
"You clean up nicely too, didn't expect that," Jace chuckled to himself. "I thought you'd be super uncomfortable in anything but nerd shirts."
"You're not wrong," Simon laughed a little. "But I can manage."
/break\
The ceremony itself went without a hitch, which already helped Simon's anxiety some. His biggest fear had been that the ceremony would turn into an all-out brawl between vampires and werewolves. But everyone had been well-behaved – tense, and there had been some glares – but they were on their best behavior. The wedding happened under the full moon, so the clan could also attend it. There was something so gorgeous and romantic about dancing with his husband under the moonlight. They shared food and laughter too. Simon honestly had a great time.
"Are we ready to go home?" asked Simon when the party started to die down.
"Home," there was something wistful to Jace's voice. "Yeah. Sure, let's go."
The two headed to the Hotel Dumort with the rest of the clan, after Jace hugged his family and pack goodbye. Now came the tough part. Jace was going to live with vampires and Simon prayed that this would work out. That nobody in his clan would be hostile toward his new husband.
"C'mere," Simon held out his arms as they reached his front door. "I wanna do this right."
Jace blinked repeatedly at him. "What?"
"Wanna carry you over the threshold," declared Simon. "Please?"
"You really are a giant dork," Jace heaved a sigh. "Okay, fine."
There was a delicate blush on Jace's cheeks as he allowed Simon to pick him up. Thanks to his vampire strength, Simon had no problem carrying the werewolf even though Jace was mostly muscles. Grinning proudly, Simon put Jace down to let the werewolf look around. He'd been to Simon's place before – Raphael had cooked for Simon and Jace one evening.
"Okay, so I cleaned up the guest-room for you. You can of course decorate it however you want, but you got the basics, okay?" Simon led the way over toward the guest-room. "Other than that... everything in the apartment is yours to use, I want you to be comfortable here too, okay? If you want to redecorate anything outside your room, uh, I'd like for you to consult me first? So we can work together and figure out how the place can work for the both of us?"
"Sounds reasonable. Thanks," Jace smiled at him. "Okay, I'm... heading to bed, I'm pretty beat."
"Yeah, me too," Simon paused for a moment. "Good night, husband."
That got him a small laugh from Jace. "Good night to you too, husband."
Simon remained in the hallway, watching Jace head into the guest-room. They'd brought Jace's stuff over earlier today already and Simon had put all the boxes into the guest-room. Starting tonight, Simon's life was going to change. He wasn't used to sharing his living space anymore – Raphael had his own suite in the hotel, even when one of them would stay over at the other's, they still had their separate space (which was a good thing, considering the current turn of events). Which only reminded him that next up, he'd have to tell his husband about his boyfriend.
/break\
Jace woke up well-rested and content in the morning. He stretched out and rolled over once. The bed was so large and the sheets were so soft and felt so good against his skin. Life in the high-end hotel where the vampires lived was going to be different than the cozy home of the Garroways. Sitting up, he looked around. The room was fancy, large – larger than his old bedroom. Still very naked though, missing all the personality. He had just crashed on the bed last night, only unpacked his clothes for bed because he didn't want to sleep in his tux. For now, he was just going to pull out a hoodie to not go out there half undressed. Him and Simon weren't close enough yet and while Jace was very comfortable in his body, he didn't know how comfortable Simon would be with this.
"Okay, let's see if my husband's already awake," whispered Jace to himself.
He walked out of his room, eyes glancing over to the master bedroom's door. It was closed, which didn't tell him much. When he walked over toward the kitchen, he started hearing voices though. So either Simon was awake, or someone broke into the penthouse. His gaze wandered over the dark walls and the art hung up on them. Clary would be a better judge of this.
"Morning, husband," called Jace out when he entered the kitchen. "Ah. Alpha Santiago."
"Please, start calling me Raphael. You're... now leader of the clan, after all, Omega Garroway."
"Only if you call me Jace," countered Jace. "Never really got used to the last name anyway."
"Huh? What does that mean?" Simon blinked repeatedly.
"I assume you might have guessed that me and Clary aren't Luke and Cat's biological children," offered Jace, eyebrows raised. "They adopted me when I was ten, because I'm Clary's brother."
"Somehow, I now have even more questions than before," whispered Simon softly.
Jace rolled his eyes as he walked over to get a cup of coffee. "Luke's first wife... Jocelyn. She was our... biological... mother. Clary grew up with her and with Luke as her stepfather, from... early on. I grew up with our biological father, until he died when I was ten."
Pausing, Jace took a sip from his coffee, leaning his back against the counter. "Luke... didn't know that we were even still alive, and father didn't know Jocelyn and Clary were still alive. There'd been a fire and our parents both assumed the other hadn't survived. But when Luke learned of my father's death, he... was quick to step up and take me in."
"Oh..." Simon trailed off, clearly not knowing what to say to that.
"It's okay," interrupted Jace before anything else could come from Simon. "My father was an abusive bastard and I was better off for him dying and I'm glad that Clary got a better childhood."
There were various emotions dancing over Simon's face and it was kind of amusing to watch. His alpha really was compassionate. Jace's eyes drifted over to Raphael, who sat there as though he belonged here. The vampire's eyes were on Jace too, watching him in return.
"Early clan-business already, on the day after our wedding?" asked Jace curiously.
"No. The two of you get a week's worth of 'honeymoon phase'. Lily and I are taking over the clan-duties during that," replied Raphael with a bemused grin. "I'm just here for breakfast."
"On the day after the wedding, mh? Didn't expect to run into Simon and me fucking all over the place like the newly wedded we are?" Jace raised one eyebrow.
Raphael mirrored his expression and shook his head. "I know of the nature of your relationship."
"Mh," Jace went to sit with them. "And I have a good guess about the nature of your relationship."
"I. Uh. You do?" Simon looked like a startled deer. "I mean-"
"Oh come on," Jace rolled his eyes at the alpha. "I'm a wolf. I have a good nose. I can smell Raphael all over you, all over this place. You might have others fooled because he's your second-in-command so of course he's around you a lot, but... he also tagged along to a lot of our... dates... And I am not buying that he was just protective as your second-in-command."
"Right. Yeah, so..." Simon ruffled his hair awkwardly. "I mean, you did say that we could... have an arrangement. I just didn't know how to bring up that I already have a boyfriend."
"Because you're both alphas and that's... unorthodox, to say the least. I gathered as much."
"So you are... okay with this?" asked Raphael interested, tilting his head.
"I told Simon," Jace shrugged and put his mug down. "This mate-bond is a business deal, a treaty for our people. If he finds someone he wants to be with, I'm not standing in his way."
"Okay, good," Simon grinned at that. "We're totally gonna make this marriage thing work."
Jace returned his grin. "Long as we keep communicating, I think so."
"Good. So you will be seeing me around a lot," stated Raphael. "In the mornings too. We like to share breakfast with each other, it's one of our favorite parts."
"I don't mind that. I'm used to sharing breakfast with my family, so it's not like I spend my mornings alone. But I like being comfy in the mornings," countered Jace. "I don't want to have to be 'presentable' in my own home after waking up just for your sensibilities, yeah?"
"Yeah no that's fair!" agreed Simon. "This is your home too now. I want you comfortable too."
"This is gonna be awkward for a while, mh?" asked Jace, resting his chin on his hand. "Until we find a groove with each other. I'm glad we get a honeymoon week off, to adjust to each other."
"Yeah," Simon heaved a sigh and leaned back in his seat. "Me too, honestly."

Simon's new husband was unfairly attractive. Honestly, Simon had never seen an omega this well-trained, Jace was so fit. Every evening or late afternoon, Jace would be training shirtless. The fact that all of the penthouse by now smelt really strongly like Jace was incredible too.
The penthouse had adjusted slightly to Jace living here. The wolf's books were in the book-shelf with Simon's and the few that Raphael had left here over time. Jace's work-out tools had found their way into the living room and onto the balcony, where Jace liked to work out the most. A very fluffy blanket was thrown over one of the couches, together with additional pillows, because the omega liked being comfy. What had changed the most was the kitchen, because Jace was a passionate baker and a pretty good cook, so the tools were where Jace found them most practical.
"He's so cute," whispered Simon as lowly as he could. "How can a wolf be this cute?"
Jace was laying sprawled out on the couch, deep asleep, his tail slowly wagging back and forth, his ear twitching occasionally. The blonde was in his wolf-form, a gigantic golden-brown wolf with a white, soft-looking underbelly. More like an oversized puppy than a feral predator.
"You're quite smitten with your husband," noted Raphael fondly.
Simon looked a little sheepish. The two of them had talked about this though, about a maybe perhaps potential – and as it stood right now, after sharing the penthouse with Jace for a week, Simon had to admit that he'd like the idea of being with Jace in a sexual manner. The problem was figuring out how to bring that up with his husband, because he didn't want Jace to feel pressured. An omega in a mate-bond with an alpha and the alpha, after the agreement they had come to, coming onto him? He might felt like he had no choice but to agree to what Simon wanted. The two didn't know each other well enough for Simon to be sure about how pressured Jace might feel.
"Aw, look at him," Simon grinned broadly as he saw Jace rolling onto his back, belly up. "Heh. That's adorable. Like a puppy who wants a belly-rub."
Jace's ears twitched at that and he curled together more, his belly flexing. It looked extra soft, even softer than the rest of Jace's fur, and Simon's fingers were itching to feel how soft it was. The giant wolf whined, a soft noise like he was asking for something.
"What? Do you want a belly-rub?" asked Simon a bit louder.
The tail-wagging picked up in pace, Jace's tail slapping against the couch hard. That was way too adorable. With a broad grin did Simon walk over to the other couch to stand behind the backrest and reach over it so he could pet Jace's fluffy, white belly. His ear-tips and paws were darker, browner, the main part of his body was a golden-brown but his belly was white. And so soft.
"Who's a good boy?" Simon cooed a little. "Yes, you are, a good boy, such a good boy."
"...He is not in fact a puppy-dog, Simon," pointed Raphael out, though he sounded amused.
"Yes, yes, big ferocious beast," Simon waved his free hand dismissively. "And such a good boy."
Jace looked like he was in total bliss, his tail violently wagging, tongue lolled out and paws in the air. Simon's grin grew as he also used his other hand to rub more belly. He'd always wanted a puppy, but his mom had been against it. Now he was married to one. Talk about weird turns in life.

Raphael hadn't known what to expect of Simon's fiance, but the first couple of meetings had left a positive impression. Still, it was entirely different to observe Jace during a lunch in a restaurant or to spend time with his boyfriend while his boyfriend's husband was in their shared apartment. He got to see different sides of Jace and he had to admit that he was growing attached rather quickly.
"Gotta admit, did not imagine myself playing chess with my husband's boyfriend."
Jace was lounging on the couch, curled together. He had an elbow on the armrest, his head resting on his hand. His hair was falling into his face and he was wearing a comfortable hoodie and sweat-pants. The scent radiating off him was sweet, calm and content. It was strangely calming to smell that the omega was happy. Raphael didn't have too much experience with omegas. There were only a few omegas in the clan and Raphael had never been overly close to them.
"Have you been settling in well?" asked Raphael while making his move.
"Not sure," admitted Jace, slowly leaning forward. "I got the lay of the land and I met a couple of the clan-members but... It's a lot and there's also a lot of tenseness. No one's being openly hostile or anything, but I can sense that I'm largely... not wanted here. I'm trying to figure out how to make room for myself here. It's not been long that I stayed here, but..."
"You've been tagging along to clan-meetings and Simon's been showing you the ropes. I'm sure given time you'll find your spot," Raphael offered him a reassuring smile. "You are... doing good."
The way Jace ducked his head told him that the omega's tail would be wagging if he could. The werewolf appeared to have a bit of a praise kink. Every time Simon would give him a belly-rub and call him a 'good boy' Jace's tail would be wagging incredibly hard.
"Can I ask something... more personal...? About your relationship?"
Raphael raised one eyebrow. "Depends on the question."
"I don't mean to pry," Jace made his move and avoided looking at Raphael. "But I've been living in this loft for three weeks now and... the two of you haven't had sex yet. I'm just... I know that Simon is very... set on making things comfortable for me. But... I want the both of you to be comfortable in your own home too and I know that me living here changed things for you, but... It feels awkward to encourage another man to have sex with my husband, but... I want this to work out, for all three of us. I want you guys to go about your life the way you used to, okay?"
Jace was suave and he knew how to use his words, he could forge them like weapons. So to see him like this was quite interesting. Awkward and nearly flustered. Raphael's second eyebrow joined the first one and for a few moments, he simply regarded the chessboard.
"What makes you think that?" asked Raphael finally.
"I'm not just an omega, I'm a werewolf, my nose works even better," pointed Jace out, cutely wiggling his nose. "I would be able to smell the pheromones of two alphas going at it."
"Ah," Raphael stood and walked over to get a bottle of wine and two glasses. "Simon and I, we don't do that with each other. I'm asexual. I don't... I'm not interested in sex."
After he filled both glasses, he pushed one glass over to Jace. The blonde looked surprised.
"I... I'm unsure what to say about that," admitted Jace. "Asexual, huh. Okay."
"We have a deep romantic and intimate relationship with each other. Just not sexual."
"So I'm not getting in the way then?" Jace visibly relaxed at that. "Okay. That's... good then."
"There is something Simon wanted to talk to you about too but he doesn't know how to bring it up. This feels like a good time. We don't want to get in your way either, Jace. You're free to take someone home with you too, because this is your home too."
Jace simply hummed and nodded instead of answering verbally. He sipped his wine and focused on the chessboard between them. Yes, Raphael wanted Jace to be comfortable here, for all of their sakes. So no resentment would grow between them and they could make this work. But if Simon truly wanted Jace, he should act on it soon. Before Jace started bringing a partner home.

Simon loved Raphael. He loved Raphael with his whole heart. Smiling to himself, he relaxed into his lover's embrace. The two of them were on the balcony, watching the stars. Simon had his legs thrown over Raphael's lap, his head against Raphael's chest, enjoying the other alpha's scent.
"So—o this is your new digs? Wow. This is ridiculously fancy. You got a sugar daddy."
Raphael and Simon exchanged a look at the foreign voice. Slowly did they sit up and turn toward the window front behind them. Jace was just walking into the living room, followed by a stranger. No, Simon remembered this guy, he'd seen him during the wedding.
"Not my sugar daddy. My husband. And it's like... This is the clan's hotel. Oh, shut up, Bat."
"Do you think that's his boyfriend?" whispered Simon surprised.
"I... think that's none of our business unless Jace wants to introduce us," offered Raphael.
Damn that level-headedness of his amazing boyfriend. Simon heaved a long-suffering sigh and curled against him again. Every day that Simon spent with Jace, he wanted the blonde more. Every day that he spent with Jace and Raphael, right here, together, it felt so good and right and domestic and Simon wanted that, wanted more of that. Wanted Jace to be a real part of them.
"Raph's got incredible taste in liquor," declared Jace inside. "So let's start with a drink."
"How about we go out for dinner?" suggested Raphael.
"Yeah. Yeah. Good... Good idea. This feels weirdly invasive."
The two alphas got up and walked into the living room, Simon loudly announcing their entrance. Both werewolves looked at him in surprise. Simon sniffed, subtly so, and realized this Bat was an omega. So was Jace's boyfriend also an omega, was that why he kept the relationship a secret and had agreed to marrying a total stranger alpha to save face?
Jace blinked a couple of times. "Oh. You're... home. Hey, guys."
"We were just about to head out for dinner," offered Raphael with a smile. "Enjoy my liquor."
"Thanks," Bat grinned broadly. "I definitely will."
Jace rolled his eyes and elbowed the other wolf. "Have fun at... dinner, guys."
Simon nodded in a jerky motion. Why did he feel jealous. He shouldn't feel jealous. Sure, Jace was his husband, but they had no obligations toward each other – in fact, Jace had been generous enough to let Simon have Raphael. It was stupid of Simon to develop feelings for Jace, wasn't it?
/break\
Jace startled awake when someone jumped onto his bed. Sluggishly did he blink his eyes open and look around just to be tackled by his little sister. Madzie grinned broadly as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Okay, that was the first time he got woken up like that since moving here.
"Hey there, buttercup, what are you doing here?"
"Cookies," declared Madzie with a smile. "Come, come, come, before Clary eats them all!"
Confused did Jace allow himself to be tugged along, not even getting to put a shirt on first. He slowed down when they approached the kitchen. There was Simon, a smile on his face as he talked animatedly with Clary while the two of them were decorating cookies. Raphael was wearing an apron as he took out another tray of cookies and oh, he looked good in that apron.
"Wha—at is going on here?" asked Jace, slowly looking around.
"We came by to bake cookies with you, but your husband said that you've been busy nearly all night with clan-leader duties so he suggested we should let you sleep," replied Clary. "But then the first cookies finished and you know Madzie, she got impatient."
"I just didn't want you to eat every cookie before Jace wakes up!" argued Madzie, her hands in her hips. "You're a menace! A cookie monster!"
"She is right with that," agreed Jace when Clary huffed up.
Madzie ran up to the counter and grabbed a cookie to bring to Jace. With a smile did he accept the cookie and take a bite. He was missing his sisters so much, he hadn't even realized just how much.
"We took the liberty of starting the baking session without you, I hope that's okay...?"
Simon looked so concerned and it was really cute. Jace had the impulse to lean in and kiss him to reassure him that this was very fine. But then his eyes caught Raphael's and he paused. Right. Boyfriend. So instead, Jace simply smiled and shook his head.
"It's fine. I really did need the sleep so I'm grateful you kept the munchkin at bay."
"He—ey!" Madzie puffed up her cheeks.
Jace grinned as he nudged her and offered her a cookie. "These are really great."
"We thought we haven't had a sibling day since you got married and it's been too long. So..." Clary briefly looked over at Raphael and Simon before returning her focus to Jace. "We figured we could make cookies and then eat them while marathoning some movies. What do you say?"
"That actually sounds like the perfect day off," Jace smiled a little. "That okay with you guys?"
"It's your home too, you can have your family over whenever," Simon assured him quickly. "Uhm. Raph and I are just gonna... clear out and leave you to it. Have fun, mh?"
"And save us some of those cookies, they turned out well," tagged Raphael on.
Jace looked after them with some longing, before his sisters pulled him out of his thoughts. Shaking his head, he led the way over to the living room where the three Garroway siblings made themselves at home. They started out with Brave and it was so easy to slip back in like this was a regular Sunday morning at the Garroway home. After the first movie, they took a break so Jace could prepare lunch for the girls and what constituted breakfast for himself, because after all the cookies, he now wanted something a bit more savory.
"So... how are things with your hubby?" asked Clary while preparing a salad for them. "I noticed the fact that... his second-in-command seems to be here already, early in the morning."
"It's a fake marriage," Jace shrugged, not looking at her. "He got a boyfriend. Good for him."
"I've seen the way you look at him," argued Clary, keeping her voice down.
"Doesn't matter, he has a boyfriend. Now... concentrate on the salad, Clar."
Her eyes kept boring into the side of his skull, but he ignored her as they carried everything back to the living room and he was glad for the next movie to start. He couldn't think of this.

"So... Uh..." Simon ruffled his hair awkwardly and shifted around, not looking at Jace. "Bat..."
Jace tilted his head, waiting for what his husband was going to say. Awkward Simon was quite endearing actually. It was hard to fight off the fond smile as Jace watched Simon pace.
"You are heartless," commented Raphael next to him. "You'll just watch him pace, mh?"
"It's cute," Jace snickered to himself. "Besides, I genuinely don't know what he wants to say?"
"Bat is coming over tonight," Raphael finally took over. "And we were wondering if you'd like us to... clear out for the night so you can have some privacy. We could stay in my suit tonight."
Jace furrowed his brows in confusion. "What...? Why would I...? Wait. Do you guys think that Bat's my boyfriend? He's my best friend. He's coming over so we can watch the baseball game, because baseball is our thing – I was a pitcher in high school and he was my catcher."
"...Oh," Simon sounded strangely relieved. "Okay. Uhm. So... We don't have to clear out?"
"If you guys like baseball, you could just join us?" suggested Jace with his head tilted.
For a few seconds, Raphael and Simon exchanged looks, before they nodded in confirmation. What had that relief been about though? Jace watched them closely, quietly wondering to himself. Did the idea of Jace bringing a lover over make them uncomfortable after all?
/break\
Raphael frowned curiously as he entered Simon's bedroom to find Jace in it. So far, Jace and Simon had stayed out of each other's bedrooms. Was this a sign that Simon had finally made a move on Jace, now that they had established that Jace and Bat were not in a relationship?
"Jace," Raphael spoke up to gain the omega's attention. "Can I help you with something...?"
Quickly did Jace pull out of the closet with a startled expression. Embarrassment quickly took over and he shook his head. In his hands, he was holding a couple of Simon's band-shirts. Slowly, Jace's eyes fell down onto those too and his cheeks colored a little.
"I'm sorry..." Jace put the clothes back into the closet. "I... didn't mean to come in here uninvited, or to steal Simon's clothes. It's... instincts. I guess my heat's coming up, I've been gathering nesting material all morning. After I stole most the pillows and blankets from the living room, I started looking for more and... followed my nose, I guess..."
That was not entirely what Raphael had expected so he didn't know how to react to it. After all, with his limited experience with omegas, he had never interacted with an omega close to their heat. Omegas usually stuck to their den and their partners or family during that. Raphael was unsure what to do next. He took a deep breath to gather his thoughts, which was when the scent hit him. Jace smelt much sweeter than normal, but not in a nauseatingly sweet manner, more in a mouthwatering way. It was also strangely soothing to smell. Jace shuffled on one leg, eyes on the door.
"I should... leave. I got nesting to do," Jace slowly started walking. "And. Sorry. I'm so used to living in the same house as my family and it's always been... normal, for Clary and me to roam the whole house and take whatever smells like good nesting material."
Raphael nodded to himself as he watched Jace leave the room. Though his knowledge about omegas was limited, he did know that nesting was important and that an omega's nest had to smell safe and comfortable. Which implied that Simon smelt safe and comfortable to Jace.
/break\
When Simon got home that day, he found Raphael in his bedroom, laying on the bed and staring at a book. Not reading, just staring at it. Which was not a good sign, because distracted Raphael meant that his boyfriend had something on his mind. Sniffing subtly, Simon tried to figure out Raphael's mood. The other alpha smelt... content. Not distressed or angry. That seemed good.
"Hey, babe," Simon grinned and crawled onto the bed. "What's on your mind?"
He gently rubbed his against Raphael's cheek, asking for a kiss. The other alpha hummed and turned to grant the request. He absentmindedly put his book aside and instead wrapped his arm around Simon's waist to pull him closer. With a content sigh did Simon curl against him.
"Jace is close to his heat," offered Raphael. "He was in here earlier, going through your closet for nesting materials. When I asked him about it, he seemed... mostly embarrassed and apologetic. Apparently, he's so used to gathering nesting materials from all over the house that he didn't entirely think about it. But I've been thinking about it now."
"Okay... and what are you thinking about it? I mean... nesting, huh. Not sure what that means."
"It means that he likes your scent and that you make him feel safe and content. And I think that we should have a conversation with him. You... want him and telling him that he can use your clothes for nesting seems like the best first step to take."
That made Simon perk up, his eyes wide. Yes, with every day, he fell more for his husband, but he hadn't considered this yet. Not just him nesting, but actually seeking out Simon's scent like that? Heaving a sigh, Simon got up and walked over to his closet. He was quickly joined by Raphael to show him what clothes Jace had considered earlier, before both headed to Jace's room.
Simon knocked on the door slowly. "Mh? What is it? I'm busy."
The couple entered the bedroom together, finding Jace sitting in front of his wall-closet. The blonde turned to look at them in confusion. The content of his closet was scattered all around him. It was utter chaos, but a chaos that was in the middle of being organized.
"So Raph said that this was all you had earlier and wanted to use for your nest..."
"Ah," Jace actually blushed, which was way too cute. "Sorry about that..."
"No, no!" Simon interrupted him quickly, thrusting the clothes forward. "I'm bringing them to you! To use! If you want to. I just... You can have whatever you want for your nest, really. I'm very... I'm fine if you want to use my clothes? You have my permission to go through my closet, okay?"
Jace looked confused by that. "Are you... sure about that? Because I really didn't mean to snoop through your closet or anything. I know that our... arrangement can only work if we respect each other's boundaries. And I didn't mean to do that, okay?"
"Jace, you're not listening to Simon," Raphael kept his voice low and soft. "He is offering this."
It took a bit, like Jace was processing this, before the blonde got up and accepted the clothes. "Okay so... It's okay if I go through your closet and borrow your clothes...?"
Simon made sure to make eye-contact with Jace. "Yes. Take whatever you want."
"...Thank you," whispered Jace with a soft and wondrous expression on his face.
/break\
Raphael frowned confused as he went through Simon's closet in search for the suit he wanted to wear today. He'd been keeping clothes in Simon's closet since he stayed here most of the time.
"Babe? Why are you still not dressed?" asked Simon confused when he returned from his shower.
Raphael stuck his head out of the closet. "I can't find my clothes."
Simon approached him to help looking, but when he came up empty too, he just handed Raphael one of his own shirts with a shrug. It beat walking around naked, Raphael supposed. Though he paused when he saw that Simon was wearing a shirt he rarely ever wore too. Because Jace had stolen most of Simon's favorite shirts for his nest. Could it be that...
"I want to check in with Jace," stated Raphael, suddenly a bit giddy.
He liked the omega, much more than anticipated, but even so, he had not expected the eagerness he was currently experiencing at the thought that Jace might be nesting with his clothes. Before they could reach Jace's bedroom, they spotted the omega in the kitchen, sitting on the counter. He had a box of fried chicken in his lap and he was wearing one of Simon's hoodies.
"Don't judge," Jace's voice was muffled from the bite of chicken. "Omegas eat a lot before a heat."
"Hey, no. We're definitely not judging you for eating good," Simon chuckled. "Can I have one?"
Jace offered the box to Simon and Simon happily jumped onto the counter too. It made Raphael feel warm to see the two of them sit comfortably with each other, sharing a meal.
"You've... been taking my clothes for nesting too, haven't you?" asked Raphael softly.
Right away, Jace paused, staring at him unsure. "I... am. Is that okay? Since they were in Si's closet and you guys said I could raid his closet, I figured..."
"It is," assured Raphael, chest out in pride. "I will have to get more clothes from my suite though because you've taken pretty much everything I keep here..."
That painted Jace's cheeks a pretty red. "Right. Sorry about that..."
"You... really like our smells? Both of us?" asked Raphael as he stepped up to the other two.
There was a guarded reluctance to Jace at that. As though he feared rejection of sorts. Mh. Perhaps the werewolf was truly as invested in them as they were in him. Raphael offered him a smile.
"I... do," admitted Jace, tense lines to his body. "I feel at home here. It took me some to adjust to the clan and to living here, but... I enjoy living with the two of you. And... I like you both. I know that this is strictly a business marriage and that you two love each other, okay? I just..."
When he trailed off, he looked so frustrated. Both alphas stepped up to him more on instinct than anything else. Each took one of Jace's hands, prompting the blonde to look at them in surprise.
"Once your heat ends... would Simon and I be allowed to take you out for dinner?"
"Romantic dinner. Like a date," elaborated Simon nervously.
Jace stared at them in surprise, before a pleased and nearly cocky grin took over. "Heh. So what, I didn't just seduce my husband, I also seduced his boyfriend, huh? Man, I'm good."
Raphael huffed out a laugh at that. "Yes, you did. So is that a yes to our offer, then?"
"Mh... If you throw in more of your clothes for my nest..." Jace grinned and leaned in to kiss Raphael's cheek. "Yes. Yes, that's a yes. But I expect to be wowed by you two."
"Of course! We are totally gonna wow you," declared Simon with a broad grin.
The grin got even broader when Jace also kissed his cheek.
/break\
Dating a werewolf had certain perks. Simon was reaping the benefits of the wolf's stamina in bed, but Raphael rather enjoyed the comfort of having the huge wolf cuddled up to him. When Raphael was reading late, he would have Jace sprawled out over him, his massive wolf-form easily covering nearly all of Raphael. Vampires didn't have their own body-heat, so Raphael thoroughly enjoyed the intense warmth Jace radiated, because wolves had a much higher body-temperature than normal humans. And not only was he warmer than a human body, but he was also so big that he covered most of Raphael, additionally there was the soft fur that Raphael could run his fingers through.
"Simon, will you please stop complimenting our omega?" inquired Raphael impatiently. "His tail-wagging is causing such a gust of wind that I can't keep the book open."
After all, one of his hands was busy caressing Jace's fur, so he could only hold the book with one hand. Simon, standing behind the couch, looked as innocent as he possibly could while ruffling the fur between Jace's ear. The wolf looked like he was in heaven as he got cuddles from them both.
"But he is such a good boy, look at our good boy," argued Simon with a pout. "Right, Jace?"
Jace whined, his tail wagging violently. With a heavy sigh did Raphael give up and put the book down. He then scooted over to lay as close to the edge of the couch, nearly falling over. Simon understood the invitation immediately and climbed over the backrest to squeeze in next to Raphael. A pleased noise escaped Jace as the wolf crawled to spread over both his vampires, looking very happy that he got to snuggle with them both. It was hard to tell if it was because he was an omega or because he was a werewolf, but Jace was incredibly affectionate and loved cuddling.
"There, that's much better," declared Simon with a happy grin, kissing Raphael's cheek.
"You're as unsubtle when you want to cuddle as Jace," pointed Raphael out, though he chuckled.
Jace whined in agreement and licked Simon's cheek. These moments, they were all their favorites.
