Bubble Guppies Teen Years: Jane´s Origin
Chapter 7: Roots of Envy
"Well...my reign in school through fear prospered a lot. I was popular, boys wanted me. Unfortunately, academically I did not do well. I repeated the first year. But despite that, everyone loved me...or respected me...or feared me. I had it all...until…" Jane clenched her fists.
"Until….what?" Miranda asked.
"...Until SHE got to high school. That damn brunette…"
Flashback. Some time ago
Jane was the queen of the school. She was the most popular girl. The one with the most money, fame, friends, and guys interested in her. Despite that, she ruled with an authoritarian personality. Those who followed her was out of interest, respect or fear. Many times, she Jane bullied the younger or the weaker to show who she's boss. Still, she was able to bully students older than her. It was amazing that a first-year girl managed to impose herself as the queen. Well, she was the daughter of the most dangerous man in BubbleTucky. Jane was ready to reign for another year. However, something happened on the first day of school of her second year (although she was a first year for failing the previous one)
"Hi, girls!" Jane greeted two friends. One was a lobster girl and the other was a crab girl.
"What do you want to do, girls? Shall we tease the first-year rookies?" The lobster girl asked.
"It would be a mistake not to do that. Let's show those little babies that I am the owner of here" Jane said that with a teasing tone. However, something strange was happening. Normally when she arrived, everyone fretted and trembled. But when she and her friends arrived they were calm and rather, they were happy. Jane tried to attract attention, but the others were busy. She called another girl who was a friend of Jane's. She was another crab girl "Hey you! Why is everyone excited? Did Stylee come to school or what?"
"Oh! Hello Jane. Everyone is happy because a new girl has come to school. She is so cool..." She tried to explain more.
"Ugh…I don´t care. Are you going to tell me that everyone is happy for a new girl? How ridiculous. I better get out of here. Principal Duncan will make the typical welcome speech" Jane rolled her eyes.
"Oh and be careful, Jane. The new girl has a great reputation. Let's say she's famous. She could take your place of being the most popular girl" The crab girl said before leaving. Jane did not give it much importance and left.
"Hmpt A rookie can't match me. I am the best" Jane said very confident.
A few hours passed. Jane did not understand the situation of the school. Many were unaware of Jane's popularity. Some were not so intimidated. The girl decided to investigate the reason for that. She talked to her close friends.
"Have you heard of that new girl, Jane?" The lobster girl asked.
"Who? This year many new girls have arrived. Be more specific" Jane had suspicions that the new girl they told her about in the morning
"That ... hmm ... Molly. She is attracting everyone's attention" The crab girl answered. Jane memorized that name. She was pondering something while she was silent for a few seconds.
"(Molly? That name sounds familiar to me. Maybe a famous girl? Whoever she is, she can't be better than me)" Jane thought "What?! What does she have that makes her striking?" Jane asked, annoyed.
"Well. It seems that she is very kind to everyone. She is smart and also cute. Some guys already peeked at her" The girl explained. Jane was upset. Just hearing the things they said about her made her want to throw up on her. How is it possible that Jane took a long time to be "admired" and that just a new girl comes for a few minutes and everyone admires her. Does everything her friend said describe that new girl.
"Okay okay I get it. Just….I just hope that that new guy who talks so much doesn't get duped by that loser" Jane said annoyingly. She also received rumors of new boys at school. And that some were very handsome. Especially a boy. A guy the girls won't stop talking about.
"The new guy? I don't get it" The lobster said.
"He is a very handsome boy. His face seems carved by the angels themselves" The crab said.
"And he will be mine. I just have to use my charm to make him fall madly in love with me" Jane confessed. She didn't even know the boy and she already wanted him. Just to try and show superiority over the brunette girl.
"Yeah...nobody can beat you in your own game" The lobster said.
"Yeah, not even Molly" Jane said with an evil tone.
"I don't know, Jane. Maybe you should try talking to Molly. I mean, she's really good to everyone" The crab girl said.
"Do you think I would lower myself to her level?" Jane crossed her arms.
"You haven't even talked to her. In fact, they told me that she is in your group" The crab girl said.
"WHAT? And why didn't I notice?" Jane said shocked
"Because you literally skipped every morning class" One of her friends told her.
"Grrrr The first day is never really important anyway" Jane commented.
Jane decided to go to the classroom where she saw only a few students with a teacher.
"So far you made it, Jane. Where were you?" He was a professor crab man with a white mustache.
"That's none of your business, teacher!" Jane responded rudely. Normally the teacher should scold her, but let's remember that she has the last name Cadaverini. So he chose to ignore the rude comment.
"As I was telling your colleagues, this group is not yet defined. Some students will be in other groups, others will join us. For now I'd like you to meet the new ones" The teacher explained.
"Ugh All of them are new. I am the only one who repeats the year" Jane said bothered.
"Maybe you should study better. Take a sit" Jane reluctantly decided to sit down. Without her noticing her, she sat down next to a girl. She decided to greet Jane.
"Hi! Your name is Jane, right?"
"Of course you do, idiot. the teacher just said it" Jane answered rudely.
"Oh hehehe my bad. Well…I´m Molly….Molly Gentilella" Jane was surprised. She turned to see the girl. She was an adolescent guppy with brown skin, brown eyes, beautiful pink hair, and a two-piece tail of different shades of blue.
"Molly? Why do you sound familiar to me? Are you famous?" Molly raised an eyebrow.
"Well...I'd say I'm a bit famous...I was the leader of the Bubble Guppies. I don't know if it sounds familiar" Molly explained. Jane was now sure of who she was. She was the star of that old show that she watched as a child. However, that time was when she ached for her father and her old school. So everything that happened and had before she met Bossi, she threw away. Including her admiration for the Bubble Guppies.
"Bubble Guppies? Hmpt What a stupid name. There were no better names?" Jane said very grumpily.
"Oh…well…We were very young when we decided on that name. But I think it's cute. Well ... although that is in the past ... Hey, Jane! Is it true that you are repeating this year?" Molly asked.
"Yeah…so?" Jane said rolling her eyes.
"You haven't thought to ask for help. If it's hard for you, I can help you. I was good in elementary school" Molly said with a smile. She really means well. However, Jane didn't like that.
"Do you think I'm stupid? I know what you're up to. You want to take away my fame! Listen to me, Molly Gentilella...in this school I'm the star and not you. The best thing you can do is not get involved in my popularity. Do you understand, brunette?" Jane explained angrily..
"Oh well...I didn't mean to make you angry. I just want to help and we can even be friends" Molly said nervously.
"Do not make me laugh. You and I will never be friends. Maybe soon you'll understand your place here" Jane decided to stop their conversation.
"(sigh) And there I missed an opportunity to meet new people" Molly said with a low tone.
A few hours passed on the first day of school, and Jane decided to sneak out for the rest of the day with her best friends. The girls were having milkshakes and sharing gossip from the first day. The conversation got interesting when they touched on a good topic.
"Girls, I already found out who the hot new guy is. His name is Gil Gordon and he is very handsome! He has beautiful blue eyes and light blue hair. Really this new guy doesn't let me down" The lobster girl commented.
"I told you!" The crab said.
"Gil Gordon….If that boy really is very attractive...he must be mine" Jane smirked.
"Euh…Jane…You have competition. Although most girls are interested...there is one girl who gets all of Gil's attention" The lobster girl said.
"Molly….Molly Gentilella….right?" Jane clenched her fist. The girls nodded "Grrrrrr"
"Jane... do you remember what happened in the morning? It seems that the other students were happy not only for Molly. Rather, several new youngsters entered BubbleTucky High School. And it's confirmed...The Bubble Guppies are in our school!" The girls shared the news.
"It's impossible. The band broke up years ago" Jane was bothered.
"It was a huge coincidence. All six enrolled on different days at the same high school. Molly, Gil, Goby, Deema, Oona and Nonny. They are all here" The crab girl explained.
"That means that if they meet again...which is the most obvious thing...they will take away your fame" The lobster girl commented.
"Oh no! Everyone must love me. Although why do I care about this? They are already out of fashion. Their old fame means nothing. Everyone will soon forget them. But I am eternal in this school" Jane smiled evilly.
Jane was completely wrong. The Bubble Guppies are back! Now as teenagers. It didn't take long for them to be loved by teachers, students, and even school workers like janitors and cooks. Jane didn't expect her classmates to accept the Bubble Guppies. Although they are not as famous as before, they left their mark on their community. They helped their classmates and teachers. The Bubble Guppies displaced Jane from her fame (although that was not their intention), because they "ruled" with love and service to others. They don't rule, they were the best in the school. And that aroused Jane's anger. They couldn't possibly be that perfect. They had no stain. Obviously they make mistakes like everyone else, but they were very loved.
As Jane's hatred of the Bubble Guppies increased, so did her hatred of Molly. She was an exemplary student. They all wanted to be her friend. Lots of guys wanted to date her. The teachers loved her very much. Jane once saw Molly in the park with her family. She was playing with her younger sister Mia and with her two very loving parents of hers. Jane saw that with hatred. She doesn't have what Molly has. A mother, a father who loved her and a sister. Jane deep down wondered what her life would have been like with a brother or sister (older or younger). Also, she watched with jealousy when Molly went out with the other Bubble Guppies. She had real friends and Jane didn't. Jane's friends only went with her out of personal interest or fear. Not to mention when Molly and Gil were in love with each other, but neither dared to confess it. Jane knew that her experiences in love with her sucked. At the time, Jane was no longer so popular and her friends left her. Anyway, Jane abused everyone. And everyone started to get fed up. Jane decides to start taking her frustration out on Molly.
Pretty soon, Jane was taking every opportunity to humiliate her. Once, Jane knocked Molly's lunch on the floor. She thought that Molly would get angry and show the bad side of her, but she didn't. Rather it was an opportunity for Gil to be gentlemanly to her and he would pay for lunch for her. Rather, Jane inadvertently triggered the Golly and it made her angry. Jane began to plot things in her mind. Everyone loved Molly for her kind and gentle nature. But what if she had a dark side? Jane wanted to show everyone that by doing everything. But her plans failed for various reasons. However, one day Jane got the chance to make her first evil plan against Molly. Jane was walking in the corridors of the school until she saw three boys talking to each other. She decided to hide to hear what they were talking about.
"Come on, Gil. This is not the end of the world" It was Goby comforting him.
"For me it is the end of the world! Molly has a boyfriend! And he's that dumb boy from the football team" Gil said with a bothered tone
"Well…I agree with Gil this time. Rick is an abusive boy. I don't know what Molly saw in him" Nonny added.
"Not just Molly. Deema fantasized about that guy too (sigh) Gil, don't worry...he's Molly's first boyfriend. That does not mean that they will be together forever" Goby tried to calm him.
"Guys...I have an idea! I have to forget that I'm in love with Molly!" Gil said with his worst idea.
"Dude, how are you going to do that?" Goby was worried.
"Isn't it obvious, mate? The best way to forget my crush on Molly is to fall in love with someone else! This will get Molly out of my head and stop feeling bad. But...which girl would be interested in me?" Gil said.
"I don't think that's a good idea" Nonny finally commented.
"If that's what you want to do...you have many options. Do you know how many girls want to go out with you, man?" Goby told him.
"Really?...Hehehe I told you that I am the most handsome of the three of us" Gil said with a funny tone "Ejem….I have to pick up some things. See you, guys!"
"See you!" Goby and Nonny left. Jane thought that the perfect time had come. How would she make Molly suffer? Well dating her best friend! Jane smiled wickedly. She decided to pretend that she was passing by and collided "by accident" with Gil.
"Ugh…Oh no…I'm sorry!" Gil helped her.
"Do not worry. It was my fault for not paying attention...Hey...are you not Gil? The handsome boy from the Bubble Guppies?" Jane faked a nice voice.
"Oh yeah. That's me. The one and only Gil Gordon!" He introduced himself in a funny way.
"Hahaha you're funny" Jane said with a smile.
"Do you really think that? Hehehe You flatter me" Gil admitted.
"Mmmm you know. My name is Jane" She introduced herself.
"Oh my! You are Jane. The most famous and beautiful girl in school" Gil opened his mouth.
"Did you really not notice all this time?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Well….My mind was on something else...sorry" Gil said nervously. Obviously the pink-haired guppy was what Gil had in his head as a crush. Jane knew it was time to execute her plan.
"We should see each other more often, right? Sounds like a date tonight" Jane proposed with a smile.
"You're proposing a date! We barely know each other!" Gil was surprised and blushed.
" That's why I'm asking you out, dummy. To get to know each other better. Wouldn't you like it?" Jane asked with a smile.
"Well I…I….I would love to go out with you" Gil admitted. Unbeknownst to the poor boy, he had just made the worst mistake of his life.
Back to the present
"You really hate Molly...just for being herself!" Officer Miranda confronted her.
"Of course. Molly appears to be the perfect girl and that makes me sick. Nobody can be that good. What she wanted was to bring out the bad that she has" Jane said evilly.
"I know Molly too. She is very nice and…" She tried to tell her.
"Blah blah blah….Everybody say that. That Molly is good and all that sh*t" It was obvious that when they got to the topic of Molly, Jane would show her obvious hatred.
"Mmmmm well….I can deduce that all this is because of envy and jealousy" Miranda commented.
"Of course not! I'm better than that motherf*cker!" Jane said angrily.
"Usually people who are jealous of others are because they feel insecure of themselves" The police officer deduced.
"Grrrrr" Jane slammed the table. They both decided to keep quiet for a few minutes.
"Would you like to talk to me about your relationship with Gil? So it all started because you wanted to use him to get back at Molly" Officer Miranda asked.
"I admit that at first it was... but then... I fell in love with Gil. That boy...was funny and attentive to me...he was much better than Davis" Jane explained.
"No, Jane…..You didn't love Gil... You became sickly obsessed with Gil" The lobster woman commented. Jane laughed a little in a sinister way.
"There's always another version of the same story, darling" Jane smirked.
