Amity still couldn't believe that she was here, the Human Realm! But where exactly was she? Amity could definitely tell that she was in a different place, but she couldn't tell exactly where.
Of course, Amity didn't know that much about the geography of the Human Realm and the different regions. Maybe she wasn't even in the Human Realm! For all she knew, Amity could've walked through that door and made it all the way to the other side of the Boiling Isles.
But on the other hand, she had never seen any of these types of trees in the Boiling Isles. Amity's current environment looked like a summer island where her parents used to take her and Boscha, but even then, she could tell that something was off.
While Amity was looking at her surroundings, she came in contact with a random owl coming towards her. Wait, that's not an owl, that's a talisman! Amity looked at the talisman in shock as it stopped running towards her and just stood there, staring at her bright red hair.
That's when Amity realized what it was holding, an Azura book. She walked closer to the owl and bent down in order to examine the book further, and lo and behold, it was the only Azura book that she didn't have yet!
"Hey little guy," Amity said in the nicest voice that she could muster, "could you maybe give me that book? It's something that I've been looking for a while now and-"
"Hey! Come back here! I really need that book, Mr. Owl!"
Amity got interrupted by a nearby voice, presumably the one that was actually the owner of the book. The voice sounded like a girl, maybe one that was around her age.
In her shock, Amity decided to forget about the book and hide in some nearby bushes, just in case the person that was there would be a human. The owl continued to run farther into the woods until Amity couldn't see it anymore.
"Hey! Oh, come on Mr. Owl! Where'd you go?" The voice came closer and closer before Amity could finally see who it was.
The voice was, indeed, a girl. She looked like she was around Amity's age with short brown hair. She had black earrings and her hoodie was half purple half white with the hood having kitty ears. She had jean shorts on with leggings underneath and regular white shoes.
The most shocking thing was that her ears weren't pointed, which answered Amity's question about whether she was in the Human Realm or not. The human still looked pretty distressed about the fact that that random owl just stole her book.
"Oof, just when this day couldn't get any worse," the human sighed and slid their body to the ground. "Just great Luz, first you manage to get yourself sent to this lame summer camp and you manage to lose your favorite book to some random owl. Just perfect."
Luz? That must be the human's name, Amity thought to herself. She continued to hide in the bushes and listen to the human-sorry-Luz admonish herself. Amity thought that she should maybe try to comfort the human, but that didn't seem like such a good idea.
Even if she did feel bad for that stranger, it was still a stranger. Amity decided that her main priority was to make it home again, even if she did feel bad for that stranger, Luz.
Amity attempted to leave Luz alone and go after the owl, hoping that it would lead her to the portal door that she came out of. But, of course, something had to go wrong.
Amity accidentally stepped on a twig and she froze in shock, hoping that Luz the human wouldn't have heard that. But, of course, Luz did hear her.
"Hello? Who's there?" Luz asked while looking in Amity's direction. Now that Luz had noticed her, Amity had two choices: somehow distract Luz so that Amity could make a break for the owl, or stay behind and let Luz discover her. It wasn't hard for Amity to make her choice.
Amity looked at what she could throw past Luz and she found a nearby fallen pinecone. She picked it up, threw it towards Luz, and sprinted after the owl. "Ouch! That really hurt whoever you are!" Luz exclaimed.
Amity continued to run after the owl, wanting to make it back to Bonesborough and hopefully never see that human ever again. She ran, and ran, and ran, until finally Amity saw the owl standing in front of the portal: its head was turned completely backwards and was looking straight at her.
Then, suddenly, it jumped through the portal. "Wait! Don't close the-!" Amity yelled. But, alas, it was too late. The portal door closed in on itself and looked like a briefcase for a brief second before disappearing.
Amity slumped down to her knees and looked at the ground. No! This has to be a dream! Please, please be a dream! Amity pinched herself, hoping that this really was a dream. She hoped that this whole day was a dream: her red hair, Boscha's Penstagram post, and her sibling's feeble attempts to cheer her up after their wrongdoings.
Amity must've pinched herself a million times before she finally got the idea that she was stuck here, in the Human Realm. Crap. What should I do now? Amity could already feel tears coming to her eyes, hot and bright. They started falling down her face, and her face was soon as red as her hair was.
Suddenly, she heard leaves crunching from behind her. The human, of course. The footsteps came closer and closer, and Amity wiped the tears off of her face. Luz sat down right next to her and...
Amity opened her eyes and she saw a hand holding a handkerchief: it was lavender with a dark purple border. There were also the initials "CN." Amity slowly raised her head to look at Luz.
"So, um, what's your name?" Luz asked.
